[Q] Blocking standard system OTA updates on my own ROM - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I've created my own ROM by modifying a 5.0 stock one (deodexing, resigning and adding system apps). But the Android 5.1 OTA update keeps showing up (of course i can't update, because of the different signature).
So my question is: Is there a way to modify some config or delete something from the ROM files, for the system not to check for system updates?
Maybe the name of the ROM or something like that?
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,

How to unlock an app on all android versions?

ive a i9300 wich i has no problems at all to instal the new bbm . but as far as i tried to manually instal the apk to some 2.3.6 phones from friends they all show "a problem has ocurred" . and obiously the installation won't proceed.
So i was wondering if there is some kind of hacking to make the apk work on devices with android version below 4.0
Obviously there is a set version that is required for a reason, the only way to change that is to decompile the apk and change the required api level.

Change Language & Keyboard of Chinese Rom

Hi All,
I wonder if any of you wonderful talented Android Guru's out there can help me with a ROM issue. I found an amazing rom for my device, however it's one developed a one man band Chinese fella... And of course, natural language is Chinese.
This, I believe I can change easily in Build.Prop file, however the Keyboard is also some Chinese App... cross between BingIme.apk and there was another App name on a different ROM. I want to make these ROMs clean / / pure English based....
Can you advice me how to do this please?? What Apps maybe needed? Do I have to sign the ZIP when finished or just exiting/saving the ZIP is fine...?? Also, can I delete Apps (or even an entire folder).
As I have had a go at this, however flashing the Zip resulted in an error... and failed to Flash!!!
Is there an App (either Desktop, or Android APK) that can make these changes, or package up my alterations after I flashed the Chinese rom...??
Thanks, Lister

[Q] Does Odex/Deodex still matter with Android Lollipop and Art?

Hey guys,
I was playing around with my Moto X 2014 running Android Lollipop and saw that there are still .odex files corresponding to each system application's .apk file. I have also seen Android lollipop ROMs here that says it's deodexed. Now I'm confused about the difference between odex and deodex for ART? I thought everything is compiled into byte-code when it's first installed?
Any explanation would be appreciated!
I think this is done by them to reduce boot time and reduce the overall system size (as ELF is supposed to use larger space).
BTW can you check if "/data/dalvik-cache" is still present ?

Downgrading System Apps

Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible to downgrade a system app to an earlier version than the one that came with the phone/rom. I prefer the older version of Chrome with merged tabs and apps but the earliest version I can get (by uninstalling updates) on my current rom is from after that feature was removed. I tried replacing chrome.apk but it didn't seem to work.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Adding ota support to built rom

Hi guys!
I wonder if there's any dev that can explain me and teach me how to add ota check inside a built rom?
Or is there a way to build a simple app that check the rom installed and send you a notification that there's newer version?
I don't want to use OTA Updater Center.
Thank you guys!
