Which network provides Wifi Calling on 5.1.1? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm currently on EE (UK) and as I have no signal at home I was relying on Wifi Calls (which on 5.0.2 is useless. Audio pops, missed calls, failed sent text messages etc).
When 5.1.1 came out I decided to upgrade (not knowing at the time I couldn't go back, school boy error but hey ho) and I'm quite impressed with it but wifi calls aren't available (that I can see anyway). EE haven't got round to updating to 5.1.1 (and it may be a long time off yet) so I'm wondering if any other network provide wifi calls within their firmware that I could flash to make this feature once again work (I understand it may not be that simple).
I've tried changing the settings in the CSC file but to no avail (I could be missing something as I'm tech savvy but not a pro).
If this is not possible then no worries
Many thanks

How to specify a specific app to always use 4G/data even when on Wi-fi?

For example, I use Talkatone or Sipdroid for my phone calls so I don't want these apps to get briefly disconnected when i connect to a wifi network because i may miss an incoming call. Plus, since voice calls use such little data and I'm almost always have strong 4g signal, it seems like it would make sense to just keep calls on 4g all the time. It's also annoying if i'm at home in a call over wifi and need to go somewhere, then i have to call the person back.
Any ideas? I'm using an un-rooted Galaxy S3 t-mobile currently, but will probably root in the future if absolutely needed when i have the time to mess around with that (and when i'm not absolutely depending on this phone to be fully working following day).
Anyone? I've recently rooted my t-mobile s3. running stock rom.

[Q] LTE woes ($50 AUD bounty)

Hello all,
I'm on the following:
Nexus 9 32GB LTE manufacturer date 13/01/2015
CM12 Nightly 03-18
SIM Card with full network permissions (data, SMS, MMS, calls)
What I would like to do is be able to dial out and receive calls and SMS.
I've been fiddling and reading for the last few days, to no avail.
Apparently there has been LTE support since 03-13, and I can see that the tablet understands the network I'm on.
I will gladly pay out a 50 via paypal to whoever successfully solves the problem for me.
Also you'll get to feel nice for anyone else who has this issue.
Some notes/background:
- I really love CM12, and would really rather stay on it. I'm willing to go to other ROM's if that has to happen, but only if they are similar enough (5.0.2+, well optimised, etc)
- I've noticed hangouts is supposed to be able to send SMS, but after reading up there appears to be no settings -> SMS.
- Yes, I understand there is google hangouts for voice calls and all that, but I'm a reseller, and need access to internal numbers only available via my mobile network/SIM card.
- The reason for the bounty instead of patiently waiting, is because I need this for work.
- The reason for attempting to have "all-in-one" is because I used to have both a phone and a tablet with everything tethered, and having multiple devices was not very conductive to work.
I don't understand exactly what your problem is. Can you be clearer with your question.
Does LTE data work on your tablet or does it not?

He wants someone to turn his Nexus 9 into a cellphone. I don't think the baseband hardware allows for that, and a $50 bounty is just plain silly.

Very simple solution: don't cheap out. What you are looking for is a Nexus 6 (SIX) -- large sized cellphone. Not a 9 (tablet).
BTW: I'll take that $50 for solving your problem now...

Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge+ with T-Mobile SIM - Can't Make Outgoing Calls?

Hi Everone!
I bought a Verizon S6 Edge+ a few months back. Ever since, I can only make outgoing calls ~15% of the time. The rest of the time, when I dial a number, it thinks about it for a little bit and then just ends the call. Incoming calls work perfectly fine. I tried the following things:
1. Changing mobile network to Global - sometimes allows me to make the call, often time does not.
2. Taking out and re-inserting SIM - doesn't change anything
3. Toggling airplane mode - doesn't change anything
Any ideas of what I can try? Thanks so much D
I had same issue, followed instructions from (https://www.getdroidtips.com/g928vvru3cqb9-nougat-s6-edge-plus/) to rollback to previous version of Android i.e. Marshmallow (https://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-edge-plus/general/g928vvru3cqb9-odin-nougat-7-0-firmware-t3601427). Able to roll back, but that did not work, So used Verizon update tool to update back to latest firmware, now it works fine. Give a try and see if this helps.
I'm having this issue with an AT&T sim.
Global: Data is at H+ and can make calls.
LTE/CDMA: 4G LTE Data works flawlessly but cannot make calls and gives me an error stating "incorrect sim or sim error".
LTE/CDMA/UMTS: 4G LTE Data works fine however when making a call data goes back to H+ and stays there.

Can you explain more info? what version where you on before rolling back, im having serious connections issues since upgrading to android 7 and that 6.01 rollback looks interesting, my service worked just perfect on 6, when i upgraded to 7 my phone became unusable and wouldn't receive calls or texts unless i connect to the network every 15min with a call to my vmail. weird i know

Can't receive ANY calls (straight to VM); poor quality on outgoing calls

Just bought a Z5 compact to replace my second Z3 compact... and upon backing up DRM keys and then re-flashing, unlocking bootloader, flashing recovery TWRP to install a ROM, have tried two variants of LOS and two other ROMs... NONE of which can receive calls.
what.the.actual.****.
all calls go straight to voicemail.
some outgoing calls simply don't go through (need to try 2x or 3x to even get carrier support)
and occasionally, when trying above, dropped "no network" and phone signal resets.
i've tried re-flashing various .ftf files (i'm based in US and am using a US based .ftf i compiled now... with clean flash).. nothing seems to be working. all symptoms the same across all .ftf files and ROMs.
about to return the phone as i can't crack this one. (but have years using /rooting android devices - never seen anything like this).
any ideas??? all help appreciated!!
thanks in advance.
Sounds like there's problem with the antenna?
Having the same problem. Nothing wrong with the antenna--can make calls, just takes 2-3 tries. I suspect that it possibly has to do with handover from 4G to whatever it's using for the call (the handover is too slow), and/or the fact that VOIP isn't working with my carrier (US T-Mobile).
Try forcing it to 3G (WCDMA preferred/GSM) in Settings > More > Mobile Networks.

This does fix the problem with incoming and outgoing calls (I set it to 2G preferred, not to 3G). However, as a result, you don't have fast internet access (which, of course, is necessary for basically everything the phone does minus SMS and plain old phone calls).
I went into the "Testing" menu (dial *#*#4636#*#*) --> Phone information --> three dots in upper-right-hand corner --> Select Radio Band --> US, or whatever's appropriate. This is leaving 4G preferred.
Based on very limited information (a couple outgoing calls that took only one try), things are somewhat better. I could be wrong, though: I haven't had any incoming calls (...that I know of).

Is there a good app that will auto drop to 2g when screen is off? I used to do this to save battery life, but sounds like it would also help solve this situation - agree that symptomatially, sounds like the issue is switching between 4g and 2g/3g - so would love to give this a try.
Any ideas on reco apps to set "2g when screen off" ? and also enable a widget that will force switch?

It's an Xposed module afaicr...
My phone did actually ring today (...spam, but still). I think the change in the Testing menu, as described above, has made a real improvement.

i've gotten SOME rings that come through and some that go straight to VM.
I've also seen my phone "pause" or "hitch" right before taking an incoming call successfully (suspecting this is the 'difficulty' we are guessing about between switching from 2/3g to 4g or vice versa which is causing problems)
half my calls still going straight to VM. Which actually isn't a horrible thing. except when i want to receive them. lol.
I guess its a issue with the baseband aka modem.
Try to flash different versions and recheck. It can take some time to find the besteht baseband for your area and provider.

Is it possible / advisable to flash *just* the baseband? Where would one find files for just the baseband? I'd prefer to avoid extracting from .ftf , but if that's necessary I'll do it.
Has there been progress with this? This is exactly my problem, faulty reception. Glad to hear you used a stock US rom. Mine is stock Australian, I am in US. So that seems not the problem. What about kernel? Have you tried different ones or compiled something? It is a software problem, should be solvable.
To flash baseband only get a .54 firmware ftf, flash it, in the exclude section - exclude everything but amss stuff and baseband. I will edit post with exact names cuz I'm outside rn
Edit: AMSS_FS_1, 2 and FSG and also MODEM.

Do any carriers still allow texting on the S7+5G?

I bought this device ~2017 from Sprint for my elderly mother so she could stay connected with the family. One of the features was she could use it to text. She took to that like a fish in water, which made us happy. They did not have WiFi, so it was strictly cellular data. There was no voice, but that was not a problem. It had been working fine until...we got a Tmobile SIM in the mail. (Due to the merger of Sprint with TMobile.). This was supposed to be required due to the 3G retirement.
I installed the SIM. Everything seems to be fine. But then we notice the SMS stopped working. I called Sprint, they did some sort of reset and SMS started working. I went away in victory. But then an hour or so later we noticed SMS no longer worked. Skipping some steps, I took it to the store. We installed a new TMO SIM card. SMS worked again--for 5-15 min, then stopped. They did a warranty replaced of the tablet. Same thing. It first worked (send and receive texts) for <15 min, then failed. They would not allow me to go back to the Sprint SIM card.
I had the manager escalate this through their tech support. After a week or so, the answer came back: SMS is not supported on tablets.
This must be a policy. Certainly it can work. But it seems to be a restriction/problem on the carrier side. However I am not convinced it is really a policy and not just laziness.
What I am seeking from this forum is to learn the following:
A) Does anyone have SMS working on this device (SM-T978U).
B) If SMS works, what carrier do you have.
Alternately, I am looking for a work around that works seamlessly. Anything convoluted will not work for her. She also has an Alcatel GO flip 4. She now has WiFi.
You may want to look at an App like TextFree or Google Voice.
I can report that this was a carrier created problem. The explanation I received was that after the TMO Sprint merger, they pushed out PLMN's that allowed the devices to use the best available resource (TMO or Sprint), I am told. When the Sprint resources could no longer be accessed with the new TMO SIM card, the SMS no longer worked. If others had this problem, it may now silently be fixed. They need to push out an new PLMN and then "cancel" the location to forces the device to take the new PLMN. Works fine now.
My frustration is that the lower levels of tech support are really just customer service to help you use your phone. A rant on the whole experience is not worth anyone's time. For me, a chance encounter with a TMO employee in a local bar was required. Once I got to people with the appropriate level of technical knowledge, the problem was solved quickly.
The answer to the question in the title is 'YES'.
This is not a T-Mobile only issue. None of the US carriers allow LTE/5G tablets to text using SMS or RCS. I am not sure why. I had the LTE Tab S5e on Verizon and at no point could I text directly from the tablet using its number. I had to either use Google Voice or some other third-party app.
I now have the WiFi Tab S7 and the only way I can text is to pair it via Google Messages to my S22 Ultra or to use Google Voice.
The upside to using Google Messages is that I can use the same number on both devices. The only downside is occasionally I have to re-pair Google Messages.
I just bought a used T-Mobile Tab S7. I can sms with stock messaging app.
