I have US T-Mobile for my provider, and when I landed in Japan I didn't receive any cell phone signal, unlike other countries where the phone would hop onto a network and then I'd receive a text message from T-Mobile saying something like, "Welcome to [country]. Enjoy unlimited 3G and text messaging, phone calls are 20 cents per minute." Does the phone work in Japan? I took the phone to SoftBank because my wife's LG G3 was able to hop onto their network when we landed, but the guy at the counter said that the phone may not be allowed to work on the Japanese network, and to find out the regulatory information about the phone. He then showed me how to look up regulatory information on an iPhone, but the Moto E (as well as my wife's G3), didn't have regulatory information listed in the legal information menu.
Anyway, this is what Motorola lists for bands for the phone:
Moto E with 4G LTE - US GSM (XT1527):
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (2, 4, 5, 7, 17)
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
Thanks!
I took the phone to ntt docomo today, and they tested it out without any luck. However, my wife's LG G3 passed with flying colors. So now she's on the docomo network with one of their SIM cards.
First I'd suggest selecting 3g only in settings.

If that doesn't fix it, follow the instructions in the link below to create an alternate T-Mobile apn and try that. I've been in Osaka recently and I can't remember if my phone worked or not, I think I had to switch to my nexus 5 there, but I can't remember. Hope this helps. https://forums.motorola.com/posts/2fc3b123a0

Hi forum. I currently have Verizon service and am considering this phone. I asked a Verizon employee about using it on T-Mobile and she said it wouldn't work. Looking at frequencycheck.com I see the following supported bands:
Band LG V10 - VS990 LG V10 - H901
Band 8 - GSM 850 Yes Yes
Band 10 - E-GSM 900 Yes Yes
Band 13 - DCS 1800 Yes Yes
Band 14 - PCS 1900 Yes Yes
Band 1 - 2100 Yes Yes
Band 2 - 1900 PCS Yes Yes
Band 4 - AWS 1 Yes Yes
Band 5 - 850 Yes Yes

LTE Band 5 - 850 Yes Yes
LTE Band 7 - 2600 Yes Yes
LTE Band 12 - 700 ac Yes Yes
LTE Band 13 - 700 c Yes
LTE Band 20 - 800 DD Yes
I see that it supports the same bands as T-Mobile version ( model H901 ) and I understand that it is carrier unlocked so why wouldn't it work if I used a T-Mobile SIM ?

She lied.
It will work fine out of the box since VZW phones come factory unlocked. Just no VoLTE/Wifi calling obviously. Band 2/4/12 is what T-mobile uses for LTE so if you have those then you are set.

No offense to them, but I doubt the majority of in-store sales associates have knowledge of frequency bands between carriers. They are likely told to tell customers that the phones won't work if they just intend to take it to another carrier (but there is some truth to that, my old Verizon Galaxy S4 didn't get 4G or MMS on AT&T, but recent phones appear to be more uniform). But anyway, like you said, the frequencycheck list checks out. If it is indeed unlocked as you say, you should be good. Do be careful though. You're missing LTE Band 20, and I don't think it's for anything important (normal LTE operates on 2, 4 and 12), but I can't find any information on this band. And, of course, these lists are not always perfect.
Do you think the info from frequencycheck.com is not correct? Accounting the official specs for V10 from Verizon.com, it is only supports LTE Band 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 which is missing the most important Tmo's Band 12.
Of course Verizon is going to tell you that. It should work.
My verizon note 3 works on Tmobile. The v10 from VZW should work with Tmobile too.
T-Mobile V10 on Verizon?
Would then the T-Mobile V10 work on Verizon?
Pink is the new red.
It works. I am using my tmo sim in my vzw lgv10. It rarely get 4Glte tho. Mostly on H or H+.

The vzw v10 works on att and tmo. It does use up slightly more battery than normal, because it will always search for cdma first.

Good to know. Got mine and I'm debating on switching carriers and today's announcement pushes me a little more to do so. Just wanted to make sure it was possible before my return period was over. So far I love the phone. Just need to get used to carrying the beast.

Yes
It should work. I had a good 1/2 hour conversation with the local sales rep, in Fort Lauderdale. He said all the new Android phones are unlocked. We also discussed rooting. His phones are rooted. He said not to root until the Knox counter is not tripped.

Here is my story.
I am using Cricket wireless and bought a Verizon version LG 10 from Best Buy. It's a unlocked phone by default. This phone dose support LTE band 2, 4, 12 (Not sure 17) that compatible with ATT. But there is an issue when you use it in GSM/LTE mobile carrier.
By default the network type is set to "Global". This allows you to talk, text under GSM network (HSPA+, 3G), not in LTE network. If you switch the network type to "LTE/CDMA", you are able to connect to 4G LTE network, but you cannot talk or send text message.
Is there anyone who knows how to have voice, text with LTE network at the same time? Thanks

I have the same problem and cant seem to resolve it, were you able to get this fixed???
Its because i belive tmo uses a band that verizon doesnt to run its lte service I'm trying to trade. If root comes maybe someone will be able to assit damn verizon
yes it works with t-mobile, i am using verizon v10 on t-mobile right now, i disable most of verizon apps on the phone. also set up the apn for t-mobile in order to get data. the only annoying part left is that the phone tell you the sim is not from verizon everytime you restart, but that can easily swipe away just like any other notification.

Anyone tried this or seen this?
Hello everybody and thanks for the opportunity.
I have a very specific question that yielded no answers while searching the web.
The phone is a Motorola MOTO E 2nd generation 2015 model XT1526, Sprint branded, originally CDMA capable.
This phone is unlocked and GSM enabled, although I don't know how that was done, that's how it came. I was able to select the Automatic network mode in settings and after checking the box it stopped pestering me about charges that may apply using GSM.
Here is the question that I wasn't able to find an answer to anywhere:
Does enabling GSM actually enable all GSM bands that the MOTO E is capable of, or just the ones that work in CDMA on this specific model.
In other words, did it just switch 800/1900 from CDMA to GSM or did it enable 800/850/1800/1900 GSM bands that the other variants of this phone is capable of?
The reason I ask is that I was able to connect to an AWS network (1700/2100) and the XT1526 definitely does not list that frequency band, while its XT1527 counterpart does indeed.
Thank you very much for casting some light on this issue.
I have only limited time to return it and I need to use this internationally, including 900/1800 GSM bands.
Its radio is capable of connecting to most GSM networks, but the phone is set up to block US domestic SIM cards from being used (phone will show "No SIM card" error when inserting an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM).
International use should be fine out of the box, as long as you activate the "UICC Unlock" option.
Thank you very much for your reply.
So, even though XT1526 is not advertised as being 900/1800 compatible it will actually be able to connect to an European GSM band?
I will try to Google UICC (never heard of it before), but I could use a pointer as to what unlocking it will achieve. UICC unlock seems to be a setting under system updates, from what I could find, but not related to frequencies.
Since I am unable to test GSM roaming before I can return it, I am trying to make sure it will work. Something was done to it, as I can select GSM under network settings, but it doesn't say which bands, hence my original post.
Thanks again.
According to FCC docs, the XT1526 (both the Sprint model and the US Cellular model) have:
CDMA B0, B1, B10. GSM B2 (1900), B5 (850). HSPA B2 (1900), B4 (1700/2100), B5 (850). LTE B2, B4, B5, B12*, B17.
However, I believe people here have reported that they've been able to connect to 2G GSM on 900/1800 in Eurasian countries, but had no such luck with HSPA.

How to enable GSM unlock on Moto E 2016
I am getting amazing 4G LTE from ATT towers GSM through straight talk on my Sprint note edge. I did not enable any new bands with qxdm, mainly because it wouldn't let me and I couldn't figure out why lol. So playing around with my settings all the time, I stumbled upon LTE and I want to share it with you guys.
OK first thing I did was go buy a straight talk phone, not the Sim pack, the zte716bl because it was the cheapest that had 4glte and a Sim card. I activated the phone with the 60 dollar plan that has 10 gigs. I took the Sim card from the phone and placed it in my Sprint note edge. I used the app from Idoneapps.com to unlock the edge. I then toggled the gcf setting. Then dial ##data#, put in your msl, turn on the EHRPD, goto More, HRD/1X, select hybrid modemode at top Let phone reboot. Then back to ##data#, and select LTE and enable it. APN settings select automatic, and use the original Straight talk apn tfdata.
I connect to sprints band 25, and use it somehow with the att straight talk Sim card. I live in North Georgia as well, may not work elsewhere.
Hello
Thank you for share this information. I have some questions
1st. What is the exact LTE band (Frequency) that use AT&T Straight Talk?
2nd. Do you know with what LTE bands works this exact model (sm-n915p)?
in the samsung official site says the bands are there: 4G FDD LTE: B25(1900), B26(850); 4G TDD LTE: B41(2500) but in some places say it is also capable with LTE band 4 (1700/2100 mhz) and band 3 (1800 mhz)
As it is a mainly CDMA phone not always the GSM specs are 100% clear, for this reason is important, helpful and grateful a work as you have done
here is the samsung site for more info:

I just saw in other thread that Straight Talk operates only with LTE Band 4 that is (1700 MHz). could you please check this part. I will be waiting to know what LTE band are you using to confirm
The other thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/straight-talk-att-4g-lte-t2386088
didn't work for me... i used the old galaxy tools app which i had from old times when idoneapps didn't ask for money and it doesn't have GCF settings button in it. i did unlocked phone foe GSM but i have a 4G LTE only sim and it still doesn't work after doing what you said the thread. please help! I'm using this N915P in India with Jio Sim which is 4G LTE only carrier service provider and about to go commercial with public in weeks. it works on other 4G phones but not on this....

Hello,
I managed to have LTE Working on te Fido/Rogers Network.
Without modifying anything with QXDM
Juste do that (Test with Rogers and Fido)
Modify directly the APN default with ltemobile.apn (for fido and rogers) and restart the phone
Next check the mobile Networks available and you will have Fido 4G or Rogers Wireless 4G the network will switch automatically on 4G.
I believe in this case only the band 7 is used but LTE Discovery can't show me the band i use (even with root)
Urban legend? AFAIK it was legit when it worked with the Galaxy s5.
Hello,
I tested the LTE on the band 7 today with Fido/Rogers
And so far so good

Good for you. Band 7 is not available everywhere for Rogers and Fido I believe.
Sorry, i know it is not directly related to the issue here... but i am from Montreal and with Rogers too...
And want to ask you, what do you think about the phone and how is the network on it so far...

Is there a way to know where it's available and where it's not?
I don't see LTE whatever I'm doing, I even tried to go in *#*#4636*#*# and modify the antenna there... maybe that was the issue I've done.

Even with your suggestion, I'm unable to use band 7 for Rogers, however the tower is like couple of kms away (3-4) so maybe that's the reason why I'm unable to reach it. What I did and that may be the reason why I'm unable to reach it, I reinstalled completly my phone through fastboot since I wanted to remove anything that the seller could have added...
Since I can't connecct on lte, ltemobile.apn removes me of any Internet I could get, I put back internet.com and it was working again but slowly.

Last question on my side, do you use the sim card in slot one or in slot 2 or an hybrid one? I start to think that maybe slot 1 can only achieve 3g connection. I saw couple of answers leading that way.
Michel
I got the H901 T-mobile locked off ebay about two years ago. I moved to India recently for work and will stay for a year. As a tmo customer i was able to permanently unlock it using the app it came with before i left the US. I bought a local sim card (Reliance Jio 4G) which uses 4G only (voLTE for calls and data). I checked the frequency bands before getting this sim and it supported 2 of the 3 bands. My problem is that it wont take to the network? (If there is a similar thread please link me to it).
Jio LTE Bands -
FD-LTE B3 (1800 +) (Supported by v10)
FD-LTE B5 (850) (Supported by v10)
TD-LTE B40 (TD 2300) (Unsupported)
I think T-mobile mostly used the 2100 band for LTE in the US. Does this mean that my phone is not taking to the 1800/850 bands or is the cell phone provided not broadcasting over them and just using the 2300 band which is unsupported by my phone?
1) Found the service code *#546368#*901# played around with the bands. (Bands 2, 3, 5 and 20 were a success on this network even though only bands 5 & 3 are supported that was weird) - No luck getting 4G
2) Then forced Band 5 & 3 cause those are my only true options and did rat selection as LTE only. - No luck getting 4G
3) Kept above settings same and went to APN. Saw missing APN and googled the settings. - Success! 4G but no text/calls active.
Trying to figure out how i can get voLTE on this now.
I found a work around with an apk from the service provider that handles calls and texts using LTE. But still cannot text or call using v10's voLTE feature. If anyone knows why i'd like to know. Otherwise, this thread can be closed.
