Hi all, noob here.
Am hoping I am posting in the right section. Apologies if not.
Ok... I am an expat living in Beijing and just bought an Atrix here. Trouble is, Chinese android phones have Android Market removed. I rooted the phone using gingerbreak and have managed to install one or two apk files. However, Android Market won't install. On top of that, many pre-installed apps such as the maps etc are in Chinese and moto navi gives me instructions in Chinese. Even the browsers often redirect to Chinese pages.
So I have two questions:
1) Is it possible to simply get rid of the Chinese OS (ROM? Firmware? Is that right?) and replace it with, say, a US or UK version?
2) If not, how can I get android market working?
Any ideas gratefully received!
Oh and the phone seems to be running android 2.2.2 which I believe is not the version run by non-Chinese Atrixes.
idk about all that but you i think you should def ask the people in your area . because im pretty sure most of us are in the us but maybe try to get a update for your market and just try to get a international rom ?
Thanks. Unfortunately I am also a noob in Chinese too so that's a bit tricky. The international rom thing sounds ideal but I don't know where to get it or how to install it.

read this post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600 maybe that will clear things up .
Thanks very much: that's a really helpful link! So if I install a stock Gingerbread ROM (my phone actually came with 2.2.2) does that ROM include all the preinstalled stuff such as Android Market etc? In other words, would doing so remove all the Chinese stuff from my phone and replace it with the standard stuff from whatever region the ROM is from? If so, that's what I think I need to do.

Any stock ROM will have the Android Market.
And yes it will remove all of your stuff on your phone and replace it with a fresh install of whatever is on that stock ROM...

Awesome. Thanks very much. Will try to get it done this weekend.
Hi, I have a Galaxy S3 GT i9300. I ordered it online, probably came from Germany since it came with a bunch of paper in German.
Anyway, I live in Portugal, and my carrier is TMN, and I'm really confused on how to root it, and unlocking the bootloader, which I don't know if it's really necessary or not, and then the ROM, which I'll bring up in a moment.
I updated all the way up to 4.1.2 now this is what I want to know:
1. The easiest way to root, I have questions about this cause there are so many ways, and I don't know which one is the best, or the right one cause I don't know if it's unlocked or not, but I'm guessing it is since I'm using a TMN (portuguese carrier) Sim card.
2. Do I need to unlock bootloader? If so, what's the easiest way?
3. Now I'd like to know of a stable ROM, preferably with 4.2.1, or 4.1.2, also I'd like to know if there is any way I could keep the Samsung Apps, and if not, if there is a way to get them back. All in all, I want a clean, fast and stable ROM.
Thank you all.

i would have thought you would root it exactly the same as you would with all other i9300 devices, with cf auto root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273) however it doesnt install a custom recovery which you need to install roms. for that a good option is phillz touch (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953) which is based on cwm after rooting while on android 4.1.2 there is normally a red exclamation mark in the top left corner on boot. this is due to a new bootloader which sammy introduced to help them find phones that have been rooted and sent in for repair. the way arround this is to download the old ice cream sandwich bootloader (i dont have the link but im sure you can find it, i forgot where i downloaded it from sorry ) you may not need this or not be bothered about this so its your choice as for rom it depends on weather your looking for vanilla android or a samsung based rom. however there are no perfect rom it is purely based on your own opinion although a widely used and stable vanilla rom is cyanogen mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779426) and most sammy roms are stable as they are not really altered much from stock however i use android revolution and have had no issues with it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334). hope i helped in some way and i hope that what i said isnt too confusing thank you for reading
why does everyone want being spoonfed? what happened to good ol' searching? you're asking the most basic questions, do you really think they haven't been answered?
and asking for a clran/stable/good rom is against the rules

No best no right you pick a method .
2. Do I need to unlock bootloader? If so, what's the easiest way?
So you dont even bother to read the basic faqs and guides .

Thread closed. I think the responses above cover most of it
Please use search before posting and don't post Best ROM questions, they are frowned upon.
There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. Idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in the direction where that user can find an answer and educate himself
I don't actually have the GS3 unfortunately, but in order to make XDA a better place, I thought I'd open up a help thread for those who need it. I won't be able to give S3 specific help, but I can help in terms of general questions. Hopefully some of the experienced S3 help out on this thread, because it'd make everything easier. Thanks!
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in post no2, you might find what you need right away.
For ROM issues please do mention in your post about:
ROM name
ROM version and base
kernel version and its settings
any mods applied on top of it
flashing "style" aka dirty or clean
something like this
...and be sure you have asked before on the ROM thread unless you have less than 10 posts on XDA
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read threads in post no2 (coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! No question is stupid in this thread.
***I feel that a little OT is healthy to the success of this type of thread. The people here who help the most will develop a comradery therefore OT is allowed within reason. Common sense will be applied ***
HALL OF FAME
People who contributed most to this thread and helped countless number of people with their problems/questions. In no particular order.
Currently none. Hopefully soon.

Stuck
Hey guys, i'm sort of a noob on these forums so any help would be great!
I've had previous experience with rooting because of my S2, no problems at all. I got my s3 about a month ago and I've been trying to figure out how to root it. It's a GT-I9300T ( Australian model ). It has a lot of Vodafone bloatware, however it's unlocked as i'm using an Optus sim card. I've also read that there aren't many differences between the international model and the T model, so any international ROM should work fine. It's running 4.3. I've read about how KNOX is built into 4.3 and makes rooting difficult by blocking the installation of custom Roms and disabling superSu. I'm not sure if i have Knox though, because i don't have a KNOX app installed; there are no KNOX related apps installed on my phone ( according to the all section of my applications manager ) and it says nothing about the KNOX counter in download mode. Is KNOX still present on my phone, and will i be able to install customs roms?
Also, what would be the best method of rooting? I have tried the saferoot method by Mrw0lf on YouTube, which is made not to trigger Knox. I've read about CF root and other methods involving Odin, have not tried any yet because i'm scared of bricking my phone. Any help or link would be helpful. Also, if something goes wrong; would i be able to flash a stock 4.3 ROM onto my phone using Odin? I'm downloading it now from sammobile and i was wondering if flashing anything through Odin would cause problems.
Lastly, is there a way to backup my EFs before rooting? I can't find them through the default file explorer and the folder is empty in 3rd party ones. I can't seem to find them when i go through my phone on my computer, i just want a backup before i try to root.
Anyway, vital phone info:
Model: GT-I9300T
Version: 4.3
Sorry for the long post, but any help would be cool. Also, i'm not that good with all the technical things behind rooting such as CSCs, basebands and such, so any simple explanation would be nice
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Good morning
Dont worry about knox
There no knox for S3 now matter what variant
Now secondly.
U can flash everything from i9300 on your i9300t however its advisable that when u flash roms that u maintain or re-flash afterwards the appropriate modem
As the only difference between models is the band frequency
To root it ... For myself the easyest way is ...
Grab philz recovery
Flash it with Odin
Afterward boot into recovery
Go to advanced and choose re-root system
Then just boot the ROM go to market and download supersu you're good to go
About backup efs there's a loooooot of apps to do so u just need the pick the one who's flavour suit u best
Take care
If u have doubts just pm me

I just rooted my phone using Cf auto root. I forgot the warranty was expired so why not It ended up working, now running CyanogenMod 11 nightly About the modem, the reception seems the same. The signal i got before I rooted wasn't that great, haha. But i'll probably flash the modem anyway, just in case. I found a thread with most of the modems for the s3 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061
All the modems are for jellybean, however the ROM i'm on ( CyanogenMod 11 ) is on kitkat. Can i flash any of those modems? For the T model, they say there's no regional or carrier specific one, even though i checked my modem on sammobile and it's not listed in the thread. The latest one is for 4.1.2, i'm on 4.4.2. Should i flash it? Also, can you flash it in CWM, or does it have to be through Odin?
Edit: Seeing as you're a fellow S3 user, have you experienced any lag or freezing with your phone? It happened quite a lot pre root, but i just thought it was due to the bloatware. And Touchwiz, haha. But it's happening with CyanogenMod 11 as well. I know that it's a nightly and that bugs are to be expected however i have an S2 running CyanogenMod 11 as well, and there's nowhere near as much lag. Any ideas? I reset the phone and re installed the ROM twice, mainly because i forgot to flash Gapps XD Any ideas? Should i do a full factory reset, free up some space? I know that there's 2gb left on both the phone and my SD card.
Anyway, thanks for all of your help so far!

If u flashed cm u have retained same modem so no need to update modem
Just leave it be.
About lag no my phone runs just good no matter what aosp or recent stock rom
Check your kernel config or go for a custom one a and set him up to what suits u best.
I use agni kernel on cm alongside with a optimised profile
And even with a UV of CPU and GPU my phone runs real smooth and saves juice

Im currently running foxhound 2.4 on S# GT-i9300 with siyah kernel and i want to flash slimkat 4.4.2 build 3. i was just wondering if siyah kernel will get in the way of the flashing. Will i need to flash stock kernel then flash slimkat/gapps or does slimkat have install its own kernel in which case i guess i should just flash normally.

I think you should probably full wipe before flashing another rom. Then you should be good to go to flash slimkat and gapps.

SD Issues ? backwards "u"
My Wife is on her 2nd SD card with the same issues. I copy all of her pics and some videos from her move them to the Sd card. When going into my files it says there is 500+gbs on it! The file path extsdcard/Android has 467 gbs and 471 folders. Then there is a data folder but the D in data is a backwards u then ata. This folder says it is 467gbs with all folders named with crazy looking characters. I did try and search forums but could not find where to post and didn't want to get yelled at by the "Geniuses" on here for posting in the wrong place or not searching well enough. So if u could please get me to the right place it would be much appreciated. All the files are pics and vids of kids and thankfully we have auto backup in with google otherwise it seems we would lose all photos and vids. Thanks. Please see attached pics for reference
S3 4.0.4 stock rom
I had installed android 4.3 on s3 but then I installed 4.0.4 after that I had no gsm connectivity see the block sign between battery and wifi. I have gsm connectivity on 4.3 but not on 4.0.4. A guy told me that it has something to do with the bootloader. I wish to install 4.0.4 stock ICS BTU rom if there's a way do tell me. Thanks in anticipation!
i am using GlamourS4 5.0 rom and googy max2 kernel
the first problem i have is when i pressed the emergency call button on the lockscreen,
it did show anything such as the keyboard and the signal will stop a few seconds and come back.
second, i found the nfc not working anymore in my phone.
the nfc and s beam tag are greyed when i try to turn them on.
can anyone can solve my problems?
Anyone for my weird Network problem...?
I recently rooted my S3 via the CF Root method. Flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.4.4 via Odin.
That's it.
And now this weird problem-
My network is lost anytime! And the phone even doesn't say "Not registered on network" or something like that!
My phone was working properly and suddenly a friend of mine messaged me that he tried calling me but it said that my phone was switched off! I also noticed that at time even the data connection was not working. NO! It's not that it didn't show it isn't connected to the network or the data is disabled! The signal in the status bar was of 4 bars as it is and there was this symbol of 3G beside it. I tried calling my friend but the call got cancelled! I redialed, I didn't hear anything and then again the vibration saying the call was cancelled! I called up on my S3 through my landline number which also said that it was switched off -but not immediately. Whenever someone called me, they didn't hear anything for a long time of a minute or two and THEN it said that my mobile was switched off. I tried selecting my network operator manually, it said 'Registered on Network' but still I couldn't receive or make calls or use my internet data. But I could always send or receive SMSs!! It means it was connected to my network. The only solution was to reboot the phone after which it worked fine for a few hours. FOR FEW HOURS ONLY!
Now it happens at least 2-3 times per day and it has been important for me to check whether the data connection actually working and I'm able to access the internet or not because that's the only way to find whether someone can call me or not!
How do I fix this? I'm having my exams now and I don't have time to setup my phone again by changing ROMs!
Please tell me a way to fix this without changing my ROM!
I'm on Android 4.3 Stock ROM.

Could be to do with the EFS partition. 4.3 uses a different version and apparently problems can occur when trying to revert to an earlier version. As far as I have read elsewhere, the problem can be verified by checking the IMEI number in settings - if it is all zeros it has been corrupted and will cause what you describe. I'm afraid I don't have a solution but hopefully this info might help you move a bit closer to one.
Another SlimKat question. According to battery stats, it seems that my wi-fi is always on. I've used 3g only since last charge and wi-fi is off in settings. Can it be helped somehow? Screenshot attached.

Hi, same thing for me, maybe the Provider do not work on an Update to the the newest Firmware.
I read somewhere that the Firmware you mentioned, works the best and i'm runnig the same Build i had few to no Problems at all.
I takes Time but in my Opinion, when there will be Custom-Roms realased for the Z2 Tablet, i would recommend flash those, with many Reasoin's like regular Updates, Bug Fixes,... etc.
If you want to stay with the Stock-Rom, you could try to flash the latest one, here on the Z2 Tablet Forum (in General i think).
I hope i could help

Hi All,
I have a friend who has the Samsung S6 Edge / SM-G920F (from EE), and he wants to upgrade it officially to the latest 5.1.1 update. EE are not pushing 5.1.1 yet, and still stuck on 5.0.2. However we have found there is an unbranded official firmware for all S6 Edges (European and International).
What's the best way to update this phone please, officially...?? I've seen most guides mention Odin (which I've used myself on my OLD Samsung devices), but as this is newer and has KNOX, will this affect? I've also seen the new and official method is Samsung Smart Switch
I've seen this guide, would this be the best way to do it....?
http://www.galaxys6edgeupdate.com/s...-u2bofj-now-available-in-england-and-ireland/
Also, what is the difference between the Samsung SM-G920F and the SM-G925F models? As some say the UK specific version for our S6 Edge is the 925F model, yet his phone says 920F
Finally, if it all goes a bit Pete Tong / Wrong.... Is he able to restore / roll back easily to the last official carrier branded firmware.....?
Cheers, Lister
G920F is the normal S6 and G925F is the S6 Edge so you can't have a 920 Edge
Hi All,
Don't worry about the confusion over the 920F and 925F.... (translation issue, it's certainly a 925F model).
So whats the proceedure to install Lollipop 5.1.1 on this via Odin? Do we have to worry about Knox....? What tick boxes need ticking in Odin....?
And whats the best official(ish) TAR file for the UK version of S6 Edge (925F)
Thanks, Lister

So whats the proceedure to install Lollipop 5.1.1 on this via Odin? Do we have to worry about Knox....? What tick boxes need ticking in Odin....?
And whats the best official(ish) TAR file for the UK version of S6 Edge (925F)
Thanks, Lister

Here is a link to show how to update via odin. And also the uk/ireland 5.1.1 firmware you mentioned earlier will be fine to use on any uk edge g925f branded or not.

No there is nothing to worry about with KNOX, it does not trip via odin. You may want to enter recovery mode after updating (volume up, power and home buttons all at once while device is off) to wipe ONLY the cache partition...this should get rid of any leftovers from previous firmware that could potentially cause issues with fc,s or buggy actions

Hi @naokilla,
Thank you for getting back to me, I'm just downloading the firmware as we speak.... (think I may of already downloaded it... but not from the official site, so doing that now).
Could you just confirm please that if we install this firmware that it won't affect any previous settings the original user may have with being on EE.... All EE services will continue to work as expected, carrier settings and so on....?? If needs to, he can just install any special EE Apps afterwards?
Thanks, Lister

Hi @naokilla / All,
Thanks again for getting back to me with the below information....
Do you need to do anything special, as we have tried many times connecting it to Odin, and although Odin itself says Added each time. When we hit [Start], nothing appears to happen. Leave it for ages, and eventually it fails.
The phone is in Download Mode, we've installed Samsung Drives, different Odin versions and we've tried different usb cables. Each time there is no error (other than fail at the end).
Tried it on Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7...
I read further down in the link you posted that others were having issue, and two people said this version of Odin works: http://www.4shared.com/rar/6bAV9VHl/ODIN.html But can't download that version, if anyone is able to download from their source, and re-post it would be cool....
Otherwise, any other ideas why its not working please....?
Thanks, Lister

Hi smeg
In regards to your earlier question to EE apps it is an unbranded firmware so your friend would need to re download the specific apps afterward installing as they will not be present in the phones app drawer.
As @dwarfer says i would use odin 3.10. Here is a link: https://mega.nz/#!u9ZkgYpA!7KyZrONdlf-ECtTC2RGcuAjfjbrInYPIPnQk3E1_cRc

Hi @naokilla,
UPDATE: Good news, it's finally worked!!!!! / thank you soooo much for all your patience and help/support... After many failed attempts, we've now updated my mates phone.
Not sure if it was a combination of the software (as we have used a version of Odin 3.10.06 before, although looked different to this version). Or whether it was the different usb cabled we used, as previously it was an official Samsung cable, and generic microUSB.... However, it was my cheapo "Poundland" cable that was used, when it DID work....
So yeah, finally... all good now. Thank you!!!
Cheers, Lister

Hi Lister Of Smeg
I want to put an unbranded 5.1.1 update on my phone as well. Can you please tell me which guide you followed to update via ODIN and also the link to the software you got from sammobile?
did you download it as a free user? Many people link back to sammobile but isn't the download speed crippling unless you pay?
cheers
UPDATE:
The UK VIRGIN over the air 5.1.1 arrived today
would you advise installing this or unbranded 5.1.1?
Hi @fast_asleep,
Well, I am pleased to hear that Virgin appears to be rolling the update out officially OTA as of today. Perhaps the other UK network carriers might not be dragging their heals so long, now Virgin got the ball rolling.... (how ironic, timing wise... as thats the only reason my friend FORCED the update, because EE didn't seem bothered).
However, those wishing to do it manually.... Take note: I do not own a S6, nor did I do the actual update myself... I was merely the go-between for a friend. As I have experience with older devices, all information I used, was obtained within this thread from other kind users sharing their info too...
1) UK / IRL (Unbranded Firmware) for Android 5.1.1 for S6 Edge (G925F)
2) Odin 3.10.06
3) Followed this User Guide on howto update S6 / Edge using Odin
- at this point we're still unsure whether it was the specific version of Odin (as included above) that made the magic happen, as we had already tried a previous version of Odin 3.10.06 (branded in GUI to another, where as this is blank). Or whether it was the cheap-ass cable, that I got from a Pound shop that worked, compared to Samsungs own official cable... that didn't work???? / jury is still out!!
Cheers, Lister

Cheers buddy
I've finally updated and flashed unbranded software which is refreshing.
The only thing different was i got the generic 5.1.1 firmware from this thread as there was a link to mega which downloads at full speed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/yay-android-5-1-1-update-live-build-t3140770
Too early to make a comment on battery life but i had 0% drain overnight which is good sign (I wiped cache and factory reset after installing)
HOWEVER as soon I start using the phone (location/google now/gps/wifi ALL OFF and with low brightness) i can see the battery level going further down and down.
I can't express how much it hurts to see that (because the battery drains so quickly literally minute by minute, it is in the conscious mind to worry how much battery i have left).
This along with my other major gripes (no microsd card and unbelievably their decision to now omit MHL to directly connect to a tv using a cable which led me to buy a nvidia shield portable for my travels/hotels) are my biggest faults with this phone. Other than that this phone is an absolute pleasure to use and noticeably faster than even the s5.
once again thanks for taking the time to reply and good luck with the phone
