Phone Stuck In Fastboot - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello EDA Forums
I am having an issue with my Moto E 2015, after unlocking the device.
I had it unlocked, and accidentally hit the relock button. Now, my device is stuck in the fastboot menu. The only options I am able to do are barcodes, power off, and bootloader logs.
When I try to use the other options, my phone flashes the your phone is unlocked message then closes very quickly.
My phone is locked, and has a status code of 2. I cant boot into the OS, because in the bootloader logs, it says "Failed to validate system image".
Also, after relocking the phone, my oem unlock developer console setting was turned off, so I cant flash in a new operating system.
I already have android sdk, and have been trying to get the phone working.
Thank you so much for your time, Allan

The short story is that you need to reflash the signed stock firmware for your model using fastboot. Assuming you were running the 5.0.2 stock ROM, you should reflash the 5.0.2 stock ROM signed for your device. Don't try flashing a 5.1 stock ROM with fastboot, as upgrading the bootloader will prevent rollback, and could brick your device in certain scenarios that I won't confuse you with here.

Thank you for the reply. The issue is that I am not able to flash a new os, or stock os to my phone, because it is not unlocked. My oem unlocking access was revoked when I relocked the device.

No. Your bootloader will allow you to flash signed firmware for your region when locked. When unlocked, it also allows you to flash firmware not for your region, and firmware that is not signed at all. You just need to flash firmware whose CID matches your region.

[Q] OTA Updates on rooted, unlocked, TWRP Phone?

Hi All
I have a nexus 9 with an unlocked bootloader, root (from CF auto-root), and TWRP installed, currently on 5.0.1 LRX22C. I have read this means that I will not be able to complete an OTA due to lack of stock recovery and changes within the system files that the OTA will check.
So my question is how much of stock do I have to return to be able to do the OTA to 5.0.2 and 5.1 later today. I am hoping that I won't have to do a factory reset and wipe all the files and apps, but if so nevermind.
Do I have to relock the bootloader?
Do I have to flash back to stock completely or can I just flash a stock recovery?
If I wait will a flashable zip be created by someone, that would allow me to keep unlocked and rooted?
If this has been asked before, I am sorry, I have searched but couldn't find any clear answers that were related to lollypop.
I am used to samsung phones and the nexus ADB sideloading ect. is taking me a while to get used to, so any link to a guide would be very appreciated.
Thanks for any help,
OTA appears to checksum the entire partitions, so even remount RW could have an effect (with no intentional accesses, depending how the filesystem works). However, this doesn't make a lot of sense since any update is going to struggle to replicate the same raw filesystem data reliable - maybe this is why we are seeing 5.0.2 OTAs fail on 'stock' devices.

Do not relock your bootloader. It is not necessary.
Since you are rooted with a custom recovery, if you want to take the OTA, you will have to fastboot flash the stock 5.0.1 system.img, recovery.img, boot.img, and vendor.img.
IMHO, it's just as easy to fastboot flash the 5.0.2 factory images and forget about the OTA.

Okay well I think I will wait until the 5.1 factory image is released, backup my phone, then fastboot flash it.
I guess I will then have to reroot and add TWRP again?

Do it in the other order. Fastboot flash TWRP, then flash SuperSU from inside TWRP. Very easy.

Note 3 [SD] came with unlocked Bootloader

Hey all!
I just got my Note 3 (Snapdragon/Kenzo) from DX and it came with global US rom. I checked and its bootloader is already unlocked. I want to update to Miui 8 global dev but I'm worried with this unlock, is there a way to know if it was officialy or unnoficialy unlocked? I want to flash the oficial recovery rom but heard that it can brick the phone if it was unnoficialy unlocked.

It came with Miui 7.3 Stable (7.3.2.0.0 LHOCNDD)
Please, help. =)

That is a vendor rom.
More than likely it is unofficially unlocked, because your only allow to unlock 1 device per month for each account.
Since your bootloader is unlocked, flash an official rom (which might lock the bootloader again).
Don't flash the latest 6.0.1 rom yet as you might not be able unlock with that.
Then unlock officially.
Check the reddit xiaomi wiki for guides.
Got it! Thanks, for your answer. I realy dont mind unlocking, I just want a miui 8 dev(it has a built in root, right?). I just was afraid of what method of flashing I should use with this unnoficialy unlocked bootloader. I'm going to search this wiki for it.
And better do a Alka TWRP backup now, before anything! Then, if you get your bootloader locked, you can always restore the backup to your current status - ROM and unlocked bootloader. I have two Kenzos in the same situation, and that's the way I do it.
Nice! Will do. Can't I just use that recovery to install an updated rom? There is an annoying bug on this version, I can't open my contact or dialer app, they close befero they appear on screen, tried erasing data but no help.
Boot from TWRP without installing it, make the backup (all partitions), then make sure you get the backup on your PC. After that you can install TWRP and make whatever you wish.
And don't forget, if you need to restore, do it without restoring the firmware partition, or else you'll get an error.
Thansk! But I think I will stick with the global dev. Can I flash it via Fastboot (MiFlash)? This unnoficial unlock wont cause any trouble, right ?
This is not an unofficial unlock. Is isn't either official
My phones came with some vendor MIUI's - 7.4.9.0(LHOCNDD), respectively 7.4.18.0(LHOMIDD), but I never flashed another MIUI, just custom ROMs. For what I know, if you flash via fastboot it will wipe the entire partition structure, including boot and recovery, and the bootloader will get locked. In that case you can not restore the backup you make now. You'll have to apply for official unlocking, or go unofficial.

that means.. you recieved an unboxed device, may be refurbished, repacked and resealed and sold $25 costlier than the original. :silly:
Not necessarily. I have two, buyed from a local big online store, both came with unlocked bootloader. Both boxes were sealed, with no sign of foreign hands
I have 7.3.2.0.0 LHOCNDD rom and unlocked bootloader. Can I just type on fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery recoveryAlkaUpdate.img
to get twrp(alka)?
Thats work!

I have the same MIUI vendor as you, 7.4.9.0(LHOCNDD), what method did you use to install TWRP? I only want to install AOSP/CM based ROM on this device. I want to flash it ASAP cause this MIUI ROM have a Trojan downloader, which luckily can be disabled.
I used Cofface on first phone, Alka on the second. Before flashing, first boot from TWRP image, make backup of all partitions to the SD card, copy the backup on computer, and only after that flash the TWRP image. After that... flash ROMs

I followed a tutorial that uses ZXC TWRP while on MIUI. Then I flashed ALKA, I'm on Nexus Experience now.

Bootloader Unlock = No after Restore.

I have a Z5C(E5803) that was originally able to unlock the bootloader and let me flash ROMs, specifically the Cyanogen ROM that CTXz has been working on. I ran out of power and got stuck in some kind of nasty bootloop yesterday that prompted me to re-flash boot.img and TWRP.
After I did these things I left it charging for a few hours and it was able to boot into TWRP where I then restored it to a backup of the basic Xperia pre-loaded ROM.
This all worked fine, thought I could boot into TWRP and just flash the Cyanogen zip again. I can get into TWRP just fine but I attempt to flash Cyanogen I get an "ERROR 7"
I have since done several wipes, gotten into the bootloader settings by entering that code in the dialer and have seen that bootloader unlock = no. I distinctly remember bootloder unlocking being allowed the first time I installed CM on my device, what could have caused this?
I was able to use it with fastboot anyway and install CM13 again, maybe this was a bug?
When I tried using oem unlock command with fastboot it said my device was already rooted even though I had just restored from a backup, and then I just proceeded normally from there.
use CM13 official Recovery to FLASH CM13.
also i don't think so twrp3.0.2 is out there for z5c. are you using any other variants Twrp? (YUGA ? )

Problem with going back to stock

Hey, I've been using Kangvip rom for the Mate10Pro from this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/help/kangvip-rom-t3738379)
It comes rooted with Supersu, and got TWRP up and running.
Now I thought of comming back to the stock version of the phone, and having a problem with that.
First my bootloader is unlocked and FRP is locked, Enable Oem unlocking in Devs Settings is off and greyed out, when trying to flash from the full OTA (from this website)
http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/?firmware_model=bla-l29C432B129&firmware_page=0
Based on my Version BLA-l29C432B129
When I try to flash something, an error appears with Command not allowed, I read that I should relock the bootloader so I did try, but got the error " Root type is risk" so it didn't work.
Same problem in TWRP, everything is SDCARD is encrypted so I can't have a zip or boot image there.
Heard you could system upgrade with inbuilt huawei software, but only allows an external sd card :/
I'd just want to return to stock firmware , stock recovery and unrooted
I will provide as much information as I can!
Kind Regards Felipe

How to re-lock bootloader and make the phone factory stock?

Hi.
I have an European Oneplus 7T Pro. The bootloader is unlocked. And the rom is stock Android 11 (beta). Phone is not rooted.
I am planing to sell the device so I want to make it all stock again.
I tried to re-lock the bootloader but I got an error. Error said that it could not boot. Locking bootloader again allowed it to boot.
So how can I make the device factory stock?
MSM I don't think there is an Android 11 specific one out there, but you can certainly go back to Android 10 with it. Just make sure to use the right version as there is both a Global and EU versions in the thread.

You can wipe all data from the settings menu then go to fastboot and flash original recovery if you put twrp on, the lock the bootloader in fastboit
