So I have me an Orange- UK sim card coming. My AT&T Galaxy S2 Is unlocked. I was wanting to test this in the states before everything. Its Prepaid but Orange Prepaid WORKS on T-Mobile in the USA. Since Network Selection is locked down Is there anyway to Select T-Mobile? Cause I know network secltion is locked. And yes the Phone is SIM UNLOCKED so I know it will take the sim card. its just will it connect to the T-Mobile Network?
It will work for calls. But Internet will only be edge. 3g and 4g(h+) for tmobile are run on a band this phone doesn't have.

But would my phone be able to get on the T-Mobile network at all since I can't select networks? And also idk about the att version but the T-Mobile galaxy s2 has the ATT 3g bands. But data does not matter. I just needed an UK number here in the states so calls and texts are just fine. But would it easily connect to the T-Mobile network without selecting it? Since it won't let me

Just do a search for tmobile apn's. Putting in the right apn will 'select' your carrier. Calling and internet will work fine. Just limited to edge. Tmobile phones are 100% compatible with at&t networks.

Sense it is similar unlocked it is network unlocked. Once you put your similar in and reboot it will go through the network set up again saying it detected a new similar card. After that it will connect fine. As for the data he is right the ATT version only supports ATT 3G or better bands, but as you said the data doesn't matter. If it doesn't automatically go through you can go into settings and select wireless networks and there is an option to scan for networks. Just select T-Mobile if that is what your carrier will run on. Not sure how it will react sense it will be roaming on that network though
On the att galaxy s2 it won't allow u to do network scan it search unless running miui rom

It would if your sim card prefers T-Mobile network. Although you can't manually select networks, SIM card contains instructions as to which network it prefers to use. There is really no need to manually select networks unless you don't like what the SIM carrier prefers.
Hi guys
I recently got one of these shipped over to Australia. Now I've encountered a few network issues I'd like help to resolve.
1. I think the only HSDPA/UMTS bands available are only 900/2100MHz. That means I can't get access to Telstra's Next G Network as it runs on 850MHz. Unfortunately I can't get access to the service mode at all and I've also downloaded the network app from the android market to see if I can change the band that way, but that doesn't help either - the app just crashes. I guess there's not much I can do there.
2. According to all the sites I've seen about the specs for the phone - LTE bands supported are 800/1800/2600MHz. But I can't seem to get on Telstra's LTE in sydney. The phone assumes that even with a Telstra sim, I'm on roaming with SK Telecom and it states that 4G roaming is now available. The aforementioned network app is set to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" - yet no LTE!
Perhaps I could flash to another ROM? but I'm not sure which would be applicable? The LG Nitro HD has the closest specs in my opinion. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. usually, bands are hardware limited. Meaning if you don't receive a particular band, you probably won't ever be able to.
2. what bands does Telstra's LTE operate on? #1 applies here too. If the LTE antenna in the phone doesn't receive the frequency your operator is transmitting on, there's not much you can do.
And in your "Perhaps", why would you even consider flashing a ROM for a completely different phone to yours???? (unless you WANTED to end up with a paperweight)
EDIT: Look at this thread. Specifically what's in post 2, which reads "So it doesn't matter where you buy the phone from, it will work on Telstra unless you go buy the korean version or something." Just googling your model number (SHV-E120S), it looks like that IS a Korean version of the phone. The fact that you say it says something about roaming for SK Telecom (a South Korean carrier) seems to support that.
EDIT 2: a quick google for the SHV-E120S turns up this page, which says the phone is for networks voice GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, data (HSPA+) UMTS900, UMTS2100, and LTE frequencies LTE 800, LTE 1800, LTE 2600.
According to Telstra's wikipedia page, HSPA on Telstra is UMTS850 and UMTS2100, and LTE is LTE1800. So you won't get full support on all of Telstra's bands with that model of phone.
It looks like you'll prob be stuck with 3G nextwork if you use this phone in AUS.
Remember: DO NOT try to flash ROMs that is not for your phone. I've tried this one time and ended up hard-bricking my phone. NEVER DO THIS!

Ive read a number of XDA sites where people flash and install new modems with different bands. Woudl it be possible to install a 850MHz modem into the above phone?

Um, no. No flash will ever address a hardware limitation.

I know post paid Verizon LTE phones are unlocked but does that apply for the prepaid Verizon phones as well?
Nope. VZ locked this one tight
Yep, available networks selection is LTE/CDMA only.
Some nanny nagware sits in the background, reminding you at every opportunity that you don't have a Verizon SIM in place. If someone can tell me what to freeze to make it stop doing this, I'd be very grateful.
AT&T microsim just doesn't pick up any network
Can't find the E LTE drivers yet on Motorola's site for the E LTE (I'm a newbie, so can't post links, but trust me, they're not there.)
I wonder if the GSM part can be unlocked like the Motorola Luge by changing ITEM_8322 in NVRAM from 01 to 00 to enable the GSM bands. I can't try this without the Motorola providede drivers.

In every verizon android phone you simply block setup_wizard app,red icon.
Searched everywhere found nothing yet
Bump!
Anybody found a way to get AT&T and T-Mobile working in the Verizon model. The spec search shows that there is GSM bands. I need to get at least voice call working don't care if LT works or not.
Thanks
Bad news I'm afraid; The phone is locked on verizon. VZW lock LTE phones which are sold in a box as a prepaid package... You would have to wait for 6 months or 12 months continuous service to get it unlocked by VZW. I know of no third party unlockers who have managed this phone so far.

Thanks, is it possible to flash other rom? I see talk about GSM version not this. If this has a GSM radio, can a GSM rom flash make it available? Looks like registeration software also block selection of GSM band. Can those who have registered with Verizon see the GSM option is available. it can be checked in -> Setting -> More -> Cellular Network -> Preferred network type. My unregistered Moto E shows LTE/CDMA only.

I don't know if this will fix your problem but their is a lower level (Testing > Phone Information) menu that should allow you to select other network types.
Pull up the phone dialer and type the below text
*#*#4636#*#*
The "Testing" menu should show up > Select "Phone Information"
Scroll down and "Turn Off Radio" > then select whatever network type you want > then "Turn On Radio"
Let me know if the LTE/GSM selection isn't there or this procedure doesn't work.

The Testing Menu does not pop up when *#*#4636#*#* is dialed. It looks like there is software routine which bypasses "Testing" menu and returns to the android home screen.
I know *#*#4636#*#* code should be universal because that takes to "Testing" menu in my OnePlus One and Nexus 4. Verizon seems to have done some trick to bypass standard android feature.
I have also tried scores of other *# codes but the most I have been able to get is to connect to the Verizon "call collect" voice prompt. My phone is still not registered to Verizon and I am not willing to fork out $45 for a prepaid plan to get activated.
At this point I am willing to do anything: unlock bootloader/flash recovery/root/ flash another rom if any developer is willing to help me get this phone working in GSM network (AT&T and T-mobile).

It works fine here with a Postpaid SIM on Unlimited data. (I'm a newbie still here, so can't post links)
Verizon does not lock its prepaid devices at all: www dot verizonwireless dot com slash aboutus slash commitment slash safety-security slash device-unlocking-policy.html
"We do not lock our 4G LTE Prepaid devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier."
They did, however, change a setting in the NVRAM (very likely) - see above where I said this:
"I wonder if the GSM part can be unlocked like the Motorola Luge by changing ITEM_8322 in NVRAM from 01 to 00 to enable the GSM bands. I can't try this without the Motorola provideded drivers."
If someone can figure out how to do so before the driver bundle is released by Motorola, please do so, throw a GSM SIM in there, and see if you have the option to pick GSM bands in the cellular settings afterward.
@acadiel
If "We do not lock our 4G LTE Prepaid devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier." is the Verizon policy and as device cost is already paid off in prepaid device, does it make sense to call them and ask for the code to unlock the GSM bands? Can this even be unlocked with dialer code (like other GSM phones)? This is my first CDMA phone, I got this phone because my internet searches showed that all 4G LTE CDMA phone from verizon have GSM bands and can be used in ATT and T-mobile without any problem. Obviously, this is not turning out to be true. Also, I don't see any ebay service to unlock the US Verizon Mote E 2015; all service offered are for Europe carriers.
Whoa, guys. You seriously really need to read the fine print....
The link to Verizon's policy with regard to prepaid is misleading. VZW sell phones as either standalone items or as part of a prepaid bundle called "phone in a box". The Moto E, up to now, is sold as a "phone in a box"... This bundle contains a locked phone. Whether it is simple or impossible to unlock before VZW allows you is another matter, but if you go ahead and buy this phone from VZW as a "phone in a box" , anticipating you can use it with TMO or ATT straight away, then best of luck.
Here is the link: http://www.verizonwireless.com/aboutus/commitment/safety-security/device-unlocking-policy.html
Here is the text:
Prepaid Devices
We do not lock our Prepaid devices, other than our Phone-in-the-Box Prepaid phones, and the simple code to program such Prepaid devices for use with another carrier is either “000000” or “123456.” If the user guide for your device does not provide instructions to access the programming menu, you can contact us at *611 from your Verizon Wireless phone, or (888)294-6804, for assistance.
Our Prepaid Phone-in-the-Box phones are restricted for use with our Prepaid service for six months after activation, and are locked to the Verizon Wireless network for 12 months after activation. We will remove the restriction and unlock the device at your request.
Noted; but that is for 3G Prepaid Phone. The description starts with "Our 3G Prepaid Phone-in-the-Box phones are restricted..."
Verizon Moto E 2015 is a 4GLTE phone which means the first line of the policy is applicable:
"We do not lock our 4G LTE Prepaid devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier."
Verizon shouldn't have locked the GSM at all based on their own policy. But I have now doubts about whether the phone has a GSM bands at all. From what I have read 4GLTE phones have GSM bands (and come with SIM card slot: which is true for Moto E 2015) and in case of Verizon it is unlocked.
Or is it that Verizon asked Motorola to remove the GSM radios? Is it even possible to do that? I am confused now.
Can anybody confirm that Verizon Moto E 2015 (Model: XT1528) actually has GSM bands?

The 4GLTE-side uses SIM cards, but they probably removed the GSM 2G/3G radios and replaced them with the CDMA 2G/3G radios. Keeping both GSM and CDMA for 2G/3G would be more expensive for Moto, and considering they want to make this a budget phone...
I bought my moto e lte from kodoo from canada did a sim unlock by safeunlockcode.com it took them 2 days to send me the unlock code but it did work and today im really happy with it on my old lg optimus f3 i got 95% 2g on the t-mobile network now withe the moto e
I get 90% LTE but for now it just my first day on the t-mobile network
Alexandria bay to syracuse LTE all the way and i use to get 4g in watertown only and syracuse LTE and in the middle 2g only so big improvement and same thing with syracuse to erie.pa so for now it the best low budget phone . i use to hate t-mobile but with this phone it much better
@shkdwn
Is your Moto E from Kodoo a CDMA version with SIM for 4GLTE? I checked with safeunlockcode.com but it says it can not generate unlock code for IMEI starting with among others 9900 and mine starts with 9900
I am now inclined to think that Verizon 4GLT (XT1528) does not have GSM bands.
Is there any utility to actually probe the radio bands in a phone? Most of the Phone Info App only report what activated bands are ( i don't think they show any information that the software layer is masking).
Thanks

The phone is the same model and hardware as that shipped from Motorola's own store. VZW have the phone nicely locked up to their specification. The policy spells this out very clearly. You need to read the whole page, not just the bit about 35 prepaid. I'm sorry it's not better news for you but this phone cannot be unlocked for use outside of VZW for a year after activation until someone figures a hack
It just occured to me that I had not shared my personal experience with this model. I bought the VZW Moto E as a " phone in a box", thinking that this is fantastic value and that when I had used up the month's service, I would go ahead and switch to T-Mobile, assuming that VZW were obligated to unlock all LTE phones due to an agreement with the FTC. When I discovered my plan would not work and after a LOT of discussion with VZW, they agreed to refund me and I bought the Moto E directly from the Motorola store. VZW were legally in the right based on the conditions displayed on the web and in the terms of sale, and in fairness they didn't have to offer a return but they did anyway. Also it should be noted that the bootloader on the VZW edition is locked meaning no custom ROMs
Long and short of it is that the Moto E 2015 is a great phone for its price point but if you want to unlock it for other networks or to unlock the bootloader, buy it from Moto, not VZW
My imei start with 3533
I bought a Samsung SCH I545 S4. It was purchased under the assumption that they all come sim unlocked. When I insert my working AT&T SIM card into the phone, I get no service. It shows " SIM card is not from Verizon". When I try to make a call it show "Out of Service Area" and "Mobile Network not available". When I search available networks it shows Verizon wireless, Metro PCS, and T-mobile, No AT&T. I've tried factory reset, hard reset with no change. How can I get this phone functioning again. I am currently on baseband version I545VRUGOC1, Android version 5.0.1. Build number LRX22C.I545VRUGOC1
The SCH-I545 is the Verizon version of the S4. The AT&T has the model number SGH-I337. That is why your sim from AT&T won't work. You either need a SIM card from Verizon, or an AT&T based S4. Sorry.
First, thanks for your response. Verizon LTE phones are required to be sim unlocked by FCC. So essentially all thier phones are factory unlocked out of the box ever since the iPhone 5. Which is why I purchase this model. I have had plenty of Verizon phones and when I insert my att SIM card it works perfectly except for this one. I have a Tmobile SIM that has no service. When I put it in, it says Tmobile but can't make test call since it has no service. Would it be an issue with the motherboard or software?

I have the same phone and the same build and ATT sim is working for me.
Sim card might have gone bad. Have you tried it in a different phone?

I use that AT&T SIM everyday in my Z10
In the G4 forum, we realized that Verizon has put some sort of firmware on the device that disables 4G LTE in GSM mode using a T-Mobile (or AT&T for that matter) SIM card, even though the phone does support the bands. When the phone is switched to CDMA mode, then 4G LTE works fine, but unfortunately voice doesn't work at the same time. See this thread here for more details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/help/lg-g4-vs986-t-mobile-lte-problem-t3195888
Can anybody try out the same with the V10 and report back? Would be intersting to know if Verizon now intentionally started crippling these devices (since it used to work fine on the G3), or this is some sort of bug that only applies to the G4 right now. Thanks!!
I use a VZW branded V10 with my tmo sim and can only get H or H+. Rarely does it get 4gLTE. And when it does sms does not work.
Thanks... but you do get 4G LTE sometimes when in GSM mode?!?
Can you change the system mode in the mobile settings to CDMA and check if it gets 4G LTE with the T-Mobile SIM card? And then in the same place switch it back to GSM and see if it falls back to H+ only? That's the behavior we saw on the G4, like Verizon is intentionally blocking LTE om GSM, even though the phone supports the band.

I am not sure if it is the same with Tmobile, but when trying to use a Tmobile variant on AT&T, LTE does not work either. It seems that you have to get the device provisioned by the carrier for LTE using it's IMEI, not just doing a SIM swap.

Yeah if i switch to CDMA, i get 4G LTE very often though i cannot send message or call
Can anyone tell me if u get the annoying unauthorized sim card message... if so can we stop it from appearing. Had that issue with my verizon htc m8.
I tried at a T-Mobile store earlier to see if one of their Sim cards would work in my VZW V10 and I had the same issues.
The pop up saying "not a Verizon Sim" or whatever came up after a few minutes of dismissing it as well.
When it first loaded up, I changed the APN to match the in-store display V10 with its exact settings. I changed the network mode from global to LTE/GSM and after a minute it showed it was connected with 4G LTE, but it went away after a few seconds. I couldn't get it to come back, and it only had like 2-3 bars, and H for data. I know it wasn't from lack of signal because the display V10 had full bars with LTE.
I also tried sending a text using the T-Mobile SIM to one of my other numbers, but it didn't go through at all. Didn't try placing a call, but regardless it didn't seem like it would be worth it to switch.
No 4g LTE
Still waiting for a fix,can get no 4g LTE on t mobile,I'm on marsmallow so I lost root access
I'm Canadian, I just bought an unlocked Verizon V10 on ebay and I'm planning to use it on a Canadian carrier. Does this mean I should expect to have no LTE data at all on this phone in Canada? Poops I never would have bought it if that was the case.
Let me know, I may try a return without opening the package.
how different is the speed between HSPA+ and LTE? is it noticeable
does it bother you that its not LTE?
I bought a phone from a seller on swappa. when he listed it. the phone had a clean ESN.
took it to the verizon store to setup verizon prepaid and it was flagged a non pay account
cannot activate.
I am using my ATT sim card right now
I can return it but on the secondary market is many LGV10 phones are going to be flagged for non payment when the accounts go into collections, it then buyers could get screwed.
I might just stick with the phone. But i can never use it on verizon. I have to wait for a Root on marshmallow, and fix after that if I want LTE speeds on ATT or TMO
I got LTE working. In happy with it. I think the US phones work in Canada even with a bad imei.
Another area on a long long laundry list where canada is better than the usa. hockey and standardized healthcare being 1 and 2... hahaha
I was having the same issue on my Verizon v10 vs990 on my T-Mobile network. I went into the APN settings and set it to LTE/CDMA and it works perfectly. Calls, SMS and data.
