Hello all, just wanted to inform you that KingRoot works greatly with rooting OC1 Lollipop on our beloved S4.
Just download the app, start it, and give it a try!
Isn't kingroot the Chinese, closed source rooter that XDA generally is wary of? Just askin.

LOL I was about to withdraw my post because I started reading the poor English of the instructions. LOL!
But for the record, it worked! And I was able to replace the Kinguser with SuperSU by following this link.

there's an app on the play store called Super-Sume (yea its called that, i didnt make it lol)
that does the same thing
but it's just
an app rather than having to use terminal emulator and stuff

Ahh, I wish I would have read that closer. But I would have rather known what was being done by using the Terminal. The app on the play store is probably way more noob-friendly.

You're welcome, good English -_-
And is there any good reason to replace kinguser? It kind of looks faster than SuperSU..

Well, you are correct, it is faster. But some apps require SuperSU such as FlashFire. And I was only joking about the english. I just couldn't understand parts of the Website. (which is probably Google Translate's fault)
It does work and there are two methods to swap out King root for supersu throughout these forums.

If you're rooted, Google for Market Enabler. With that you can set your phone to appear to the Play Store that it's in any country you wish.

So allowing someone access to an app despite it not being available in their country wouldn’t be classified as warez?
*edit* With your edit to your last post I guess it isn't, meh my mistake.
If it's free, if you can download the apk and if it doesn't have any specific licence restriction (which it won't if it's freely available on the Play Store), then it's all good.
And thinking about it, wow! This is one of those rare occasions where something actually doesn't belong in Off-topic! It deserves this emoticon...

Hey guys. I have updated my I777 to Ver.4.0.4 with Samsung Kies and my phone is completely "pure", which means unrooted by default and not any 3rd party mods installed. I wonder how to root my phone since the guides and toolkits in the forum is for Ver.2.X which seems a bit outdated now. I am a noob on rooting. Please help me, thank you very much!

The only way to root 4.0.4 without changing base is with the ExynosAbuse application which you can download free from developer chainfire in the I9100 forum. This information is not in the guide that mitensheth_11 linked to earlier.

I don't think that's completely fair. This is a phone found only in the American market, so the majority of information about this found will only be found in English. And if you can't read English very well, then I can imagine it would be difficult and very time consuming to find even simple answers.

You could just go to one of Creepyncrawly's threads and flash through Odin and the use TA afterwards. Go to the development thread and look there for 4.0.4 stock with root and follow the detailed instructions he's given.

I got my GS4 today. I love it but there is a TON of things pre installed that I don't want. I've never "rooted" a phone before. I've read over some ways and it looks confusing as HECK. So a few questions. 1: Is there a way to "root" and just take away all the apps that are unwanted, and leave the same basic OS and apps I still want? 2: Should I wait a few weeks until everything has been tested and such before attempting? 3: Should I try to "root" a phone I already have that is inactive? 4: If so, I have a Droid 3, and a Casio Commando that would make good test subjects.
Now remember, I'm a noob. But I love the idea of being in control of my own device. Thanks for the help in advance.

check that link for a root guide.
very simple and straight forward. all links provided for what you need to download and even links for dummys and noobs.
look around, ask around. but always search before you ask otherwise you might get flamed and chewed out.
PM me if you need any further assistance to rooting the S4. I just rooted mine with that guide, took less than 5 minutes. there are way more complicated ways to root, so this guide already dumbs it down A LOT.

It's all in the guide. All the info, step by step, is there. Just follow it. It tells you have to verify root.
After your first flash, you run SuperUser?
Once you do, you can download a root checker on Google Play or use adb shell (you prolly won't use adb shell cmd though).
Once you verified you are rooted, you flash the 2nd file.
But since you seem to have already completed the full process, just go to google play and download a root checker. Run it to verify you have root. Simple.

Get Titanium Backup on google play. It costs money, but well worth it, imho.
This app lets you freeze or delete unwanted apps. Just be careful not to delete something you need that makes the phone function properly.

Read my post. If you want to be safe use the root thread under development.
Hi all. I saw a thread on here already about MJ7 users successfully rooting their devices. I personally do not care about tripping any kind of knox alarm, as I have a free deductible on my phone. Are there any methods other than the Vroot and Klingo (sp?) that I can actually find a link to? I'd really like to start experimenting with ROMs on this device and I find myself being held back by speculation of backdoors in China.
There's no other at the moment that we know of or that is public. Just keep an eye on the other thread and you'll know when one comes up.
