You can update to 5.1.1 without loosing root when you flash prerooted firmware, but when I tried to do that unfortunately I had to wipe data else the systemui was not working, and Sony backup and restore won't let you restore your old data.

I have the same situation. Rooted and custom recovery on z2 6503 stock 5.0.2. I got an update on my phone. Do I have to unroot and remove recovery? Or I can just update. I don't want to flash prerooted firmware

Hi! I have a question. But what does Back Up And Restore save then for you if it can't restore all your data? Because I'm afraid of losing all my gaming data, I don't wanna factory reset the phone because I don't know if my data will be saved... Rookie here

Well, I had the same situation as u( rooted with LB and custom recovery) . What I did is flashing 5.0.2 again to get back to stock recovery. Then installed the update normally through OTA with all my data preserved and no problems at alll ....but lost root of course.
You've another option that you can flash 5.1 directly through flashtool but untick the "wipe: data" before flashing. There is some prerooted FTFs in the forum ..choose the one suitable for u and flash it without wiping in flashtool.
Hope that helps.

I just did that last night. I made my own pre-rooted zip with recovery from Customized UK FTF , using the tutorials found here on XDA. I deleted cache with recovery and flashed the zip. Now I have 5.1.1 with root, no data lost and absolutely no issue and no force closing apps.

If you don`t want pre-rooted firmware you should update your phone via PC Companion, it will backup all your data. But be warned that you WILL LOSE ROOT and it will be quite tricky get root back. Another way is to flash a stock FTF using flashtool and uncheck flash data. This way you won`t lose any data, you only LOSE ROOT.
If you are sure you don`t want root anymore go ahead. I strongly suggest flashing a pre-rooted firmware.

[Q] 4.4.4 Easyroot?

Hey guys,
Can I still use the easy root tool to root after updating to the 4.4.4 firmware?
Thanks
Nope
I tried but it is getting stuck on CREATING VM (JAVASUCKS)
Same here... +1 Stuck on "Creating VM... "
No, the known flaws in 4.4.2 are all patched for latest fw, only current way around it is to downgrade, root install dual recovery and flash a pre-rooted zip from CWM.
In other words;
Go back to .314 (4.4.2) firmware,
Root,
Install a recovery,
And flash the new 4.4.4 firmware via recovery.

There are new rumors that you can root 314 - select preserve mode in SuperSU - and go OTA... and root will remain...

Yeah I've heard that aswell. It's most likely working. Shall I try it? Just spent a few hours getting 4.4.4 work on my phone with root...
Ah right - Fuuuun...
I think i'll just carry on stock until someone sorts out a rooting method for 4.4.4 that doesn't involve so much faffing about lol.
Thanks for all the replies
Just keep a eye in Z3 Section too
4.4.4 firmrare is a near direct port
Hi folks,
I have a new 4.4.4 Z2, should I root it now or wait after the Lollipop version is installed?
Will I be able to install the Lollipop when rooted?

[Q] No Signal in Lollipop D6502, any way to fix?

Hey, so I was impatient of waiting for Lollipop on D6502, so I went to XperiaBlog and saw some people asking if they can flash the D6503 FTF to D6502, they said it was okay but your phone is from now on D6503 and you won't have 4G, but everything else will work. So I flashed it, my phone worked perfectly, only that I can't get a signal on my phone. WiFi works fine but cellular network has no signal. I am aware that there is a zip to flash to fix the modem issues on D6502, but that requires recovery and I haven't rooted to gain recovery nor will I plan to. Is there any way without rooting to flash the D6502 modem zip? I just cant stand it because without cellular the whole name called "phone" is just diminished. Thanks =)

That does not really help. Surely there has to be a way.
I forgot to mention I DID download the baseband patch but the D6503 ROM had only .sin and .ta files, while the patch had multiple folders and files with .b00, .b01, etc.
Is there a way to put the patch in the baseband folder then flash the ROM again? Thanks =)

There is a way root, install recovery and flash the zip.
If you don't want to that you could try and unpack the ftf, open the ftf replace the files and repack the ftf. I have no idea if that possible though. Google it.
Install some custom kernel that has recovery (that won't allow you to boot lollipop), flash the fix (eventually also root your device) , flash the original lollipop kernel and you should be done.

Couldn't I just wait though for the D6502 ftf for Lollipop to come and flash it? Would that fix the baseband problem?
If you're already on lollipop you won't get any update soon, only if you downgrade back to kitkat.

No, what I meant was I flashed D6503's lollipop. D6502's will be out in a week. I downloaded the D6503 ftf from XperiFirm AND CAN download the D6502's ftf when it comes out soon. I was asking if it was fine to flash 02 over 03 and not get any more problems. Thanks =)

[Q] Xperia z2 lollipop root?

Hello,
I'm Yazan and I'm new to this developing stuff. I had an old Samsung that I used to play with and rooted it but moving to the Xperia z2 was a big upgrade. I have very low experience and would love to root my Xperia z2. I have updated it to the generic lollipop update and would like to know if there is a way to root it. And also could I downgrade to 4.4.4 KitKat root it and install a rooted 5.0 stock ROM?
Thanks for the help. I'll be waiting. :fingers-crossed:
You need to downgrade it to 4.4.2 Kitkat, root it, install Dualrecovery, and then flash a prerooted lollipop firmware via recovery.
Please search the forum for how to do it..

... So I could flash (downgrade) a stock 4.4.2 ROM directly from 5.0.2 using flashtool, then root it and install dual recovery then flash the 5.0 pre rooted rom using the recovery? And btw my bootloader is locked should I unlock it first.

No need to unlock bootloader... Just do as you said...
The intention of downgrading firmware is to gain root without unlocking bootloader.

Haha, thanks I'm sort of new... Thanks though. and which ROM should I choose... 17.1.2.A.0.314 or 17.1.1.A.0.402. My device is D6503

Need help with a ROM

Hey guys, I have an Xperia Z2 D6503 with Android 5.1.1 FW 23.4.A.1.200 non-rooted with LB
I saw this ROM -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/rom-z2-264-stock-rooted-deodexed-t3276227
In the instructions it only says to flash it from recovery and wipe data, and since it's stock based, i was wondering if i needed to root my phone or install a special recovery before flashing this room
Thanks in advance
You don't need to root, but you do need to unlock your boot loader to be able to flash anything that isn't flashed with Sony's own tools and have their signatures.
You migt need to load a different recovery (i.e. twrp or cwm). I can't say for sure.
dont forget to save drm keys first..... I really miss the sony camera, i didnt save the keys and now the camera performance is not as good as before. Tbh u will prefer the stock more.

Did you try using the drm restoration zip?
guys don't mislead. All you need is to downgrade to 23.1.A.1.28, root it via KingRoot and install XZ Dual Recovery. No unlock bootloader required

My friend. .
Follow this instructions
First download 23.1.A.1.28 ftf and flash it using flashtool. Or download any kitkat ftf and flash it via flashtool. Then root it and install NUT dual recovery. Then move the rom u want to flash to ur phone and enter recovery. Wipe data factory reset and flash rom. Then reboot.. Thats it. U don't need to unlock ur bootloader..
If u don't know how to downgrade u can simply see a YouTube video. There is lot of tutorials available in xda or YouTubes.
U can't root 5.1.1 directly if u are on a LB. So follow my method and enjoy a stock deodexed rom..
