Just unlocked the bootloader the next steps - AT&T HTC One (M9)

I I have just unlocked the bootloader of my HTC one M9 AT&T, I have just pushed twrp-2.8.7.0-hima.img to it , I saw the new alert screen about not having read write access to the system partition, I clicked ok and then went in to backup and now just after backup I am moving the backups to my laptop.
I have copied BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip to the phone and getting ready to install that with TWRP did I miss any thing ?
My end goal is to put the custom viper rom on the phone , have root and be able to write to the hosts file but for now just trying to root and not screw up any thing

Nope. Unless you want to test your backup.
Note: to restore a system image backup, boot into recovery, go to mount, and place a check on the box to make the system READ ONLY. Then restore.
PS - I never flash superSU separately. You can just reboot to recovery, swipe to allow read/write, go to reboot > system and then TWRP prompts you to install SuperSU before rebooting. Swipe to install it there.

All went well i checked the MD5 stamp of the backup and looks ok but did not try and restore, Installed SuperSU separately
Just downloading Viper Rom now

[Q] Ok..so I grew a pair and I'm rooted and backed up. (( update.zip question ))

I was in Clockwork Recovery after backing up my stock system (this is my first time) it gave me the options in green text: Reboot, reinstall update.zip, etc.
I chose reboot and everything loaded up fine and after checking in Rom Manager I have a backup of my system. I just want to know if that was the right choice. or should I have reinstalled update.zip
I guess my question revolves around update.zip.
What is that file? I know I originally used it to gain root access but do I need to reinstall it from clockwork recovery everytime before rebooting? and when should I delete it? and are there any negative consequences for not doing either?
As you can tell I'm a noob....but hey I can't believe I'm rooted and backed up at the moment. I'm gonna stop here before flashing any custonm roms and get this question answered first.
I think you are fine. I would not worry so much, i have deleted the update.zip, but since you booted up into ClockWork Recovery you are most likely fine.
I am booted back up completely and the stock os is running and I'm still rooted. I just want to know what that option inside of clockwork recovery means. What is the reason to reinstall update.zip from clockwork recovery and what is the reason to reboot? And once I'm booted back up and running when/why do I go into my files and delete update.zip?
It's not that I'm worried...I just want to know why I'm doing what I'm doing.
I would keep the file. Less chance of failure.
You are only going to use cwr for this:
Backup/restore system
Wipe cache, factory wipe, etc
Flashing rom's (install from sd card)
Don't worry about the other stuff.
I'm confused by the op, not sure how you made a backup from how it reads.
I think I made the backup by flashing into clockwork recovery from rom manager. It started with the purple text recovery mode and I hit reinstall packets. Then it went into the green text clockwork recovery....I think. I've only done it once.
So in clockwork recovery I choose the backup/restore option and then the backup option. So then the phone I assume began the backup process and displayed many lines of white text. At the very end it said something about not being able to mount my ext sd card (which) had me worried.....but then it brought up the menu again. The top option was reboot, the second was reinstall update.zip and I didn't pay attention to the rest because I was pretty sure I needed one of the first two....I just didn't know which one. I selected reboot and the phone then booted into the stock os and was still rooted. Is the fact that it wasn't able to mount my ext sd card at the end of the backup process an issue? I'm able to find a backup in rom manager. Also, if the backup process works correctly should the phone reboot by itself?
What I'm asking is what am I booting from when I choose "reboot" from clockwork recovery and what does it mean to choose "reinstall (packet?) update.zip"? I thought update.zip was what I needed to root.
This last step wasn't in your tutorial (purple text menu) so maybe something didn't go as it should have.
I'm not sure.
Thanks s15274n for the tutorial btw. Its by far the most helpful concise instructions I've found and is really appreciated.

The update.zip in the root of the internal SD card is clockwork recovery (CR). When you install CR it does not overwrite your phone's recovery. What it does is install that update.zip in the root of the SD card. When you want to use CR, you need to "update packages" which will flash that update.zip which contains the CR package. That will load CR into memory only and still does not overwrite the original recovery on the phone. When you reboot into recovery from ROM Manager, it automatically reboots and applies the update.zip and places you into CR. If you enter recovery manually (via buttons on boot), you will need to "re-install packages" from the stock recovery to get CR.
So if you want to use CR, keep that update.zip in the root of the SD card. If you erase it, you will need to re-install it (using ROM Manager) before you can use CR instead of the stock recovery. I hope that makes sense. If not, here is the explanation straight from Koush on how it works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734164&highlight=clockwork
^^ You are all good then.
The SD-EXT is not going to backup, because you do not have a partiotion on your external SD card (no need for one, like some other phones require). This is normal from what you described.
You will never use the apply update.zip option in CWR... just dont pay any mind to it.
When you select reboot system now, that is all it is.... you are basically saying "Cool, I did everything I needed to do (backup/flash a rom/wipe, etc)... and now I am ready to reboot my phone... ie, you are basically cutting your phone on.
Positive you did, but you can open rom manager, click on manage backups and you should see a file there that has a format kinda like YYYYMMDDTIME, that is the backup you made... no action needed, just an easy way to verify you made a backup of your system.

Also wanted to say i feel the same way. Appreciate the guide so much!
Thanks guys. I'm glad to have that cleared up so I understand it. Gives me more confidence to do the other things I want to do.
I got confused with the fact that I need to delete the update.zip file after rooting and the fact thats its there again after flashing cw and backing up.
Sometimes I need things spelled out for me. Makes complete sense now.

[Q] How do I access root directories from bootloader or 4ext recovery?

My phone wont boot into android because of a bad setting I made in pimp my rom, it only boots into recovery now. So what I need to do is sort files modified by a certain date and time (last night) and restore them with originals hoepfully to get my phone to boot back up.
So how do I navigate and search my root directory through 4ext recovery or bootloader, because those are my only options?
Is there a way to mount these directories and browse them through windows as if it were an actual folder so I can use windows 7's build in search features as well? I have android commander installed and can use that if need be.
Just not sure how to exactly approach this without installing my rom back over again.

Man you should have made a backup thru recovery before changing any settings using Pimp My ROM as its clearly mentioned in their thread. I don't think that you can mount ext4 in windows. So, in my opinion, your only option is to re-flash your rom.

I know! First thing out of my mouth last night.. "Why didnt I make a nandroid"
I think thats not possible, your only chance to get your data is flashing the rom again without wipe...
Gesendet von meinem HTC Vision mit Tapatalk 2
I'll just make a nandroid now, and manually restore directories after flashing my rom again, see if I can get my apps back without having to redo them all.
When you reflash the rom without wipe, your data (apps...) will usually not be gone. But better do a backup before!

Yeah you can try that. Good Luck!
Ok so I did the nandroid, then reformatted everything, reflashed my rom, then used nandroid manager to restore all my apps and data, pretty much back to normal now

OBackup - Nandroid backup

I have JB 4.1.2 rooted, and that's it, I have no CWM or anything like that, I'm trying to do a nandroid, but I haven't been able to figure this app OBackup - Nandroid backup The app starts and everything goes good but after the commands says "Done" I get an X on the notification bar saying "Aborted by user" but I touched nothing. So I open the app again and it says "No back up done, touch the wand to start" and starts all over again What am I missing? What am I doing wrong?.
P.S. I wasn't sure if I had to post this here or themes and apps, please move it if I decided wrong

It's been my experience with ONANDROID that you need to flash both the onandroid zip, (in CWM) and the specific file for our device to recognize boot partitions. I think you downloaded a GUI front end for onandroid, but it can't do anything without the underlying program.
If you open terminal emulator, and type
$su
#onandroid
it should immediately start making one, and (ironically) it would be in the default CWM backup folder...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620255
this thread is the creater of onandroid, to my knowledge.
Hope this helps.
I am not familiar with app but my guess is you are following the steps in your signature, which are in the wrong order. After rooting unlock your bootloader and install a recovery with freegee, also use freegee to back up your efs to dropbox or copy it to PC. Then use recovery to make nandroid and flash a custom ROM.

Alright thanks, so I need to install CWM and unlock the bootloader then do the nandroid. Is there a way to backup the current bootloader?
Freegee must backup bootloaders, but if you have removed bloat apps it will give security error soft brick when you restore. If you made nandroid right after unlocking, that could be restored then relocked with freegee. There is also the lgnpst program that will restore you to stock ROM with locked bootloader.
Ok thanks

Requesting help ROM HTC One Max 8060 T6DUG (2-Sim)

Hello my fella Developers.
lets do this again. i have the threat all typed up with details and closed it by an accident.
anyways
I have htc one max 8060-t6dug Chinese variant without OS. HTC-1
I had issues with this one, it came with bloatware and lots of it. some of it is pornographic. (got kids who play with my phone)
i decided to root, got the TWRP Recovery. flashed with latest SuperSU. got titanium pro (paid) to get rid of unwanted bloatware. i guess i missed out on something. as soon as i connect with wifi. it starts to download apps. and formatting doesnt help. so i thought maybe repeat the process. BUT in recovery i accidentally wiped system.
i have been through xda developers forums completely found some roms but dead links.
went though several other sites without any luck.
went though Chinese forums (Baidu i think) found some firmwares but TWRP gives me error trying to flash it.
i have tried to flash these with adb command, but mostly get remote not allowed error or space not allocated error.
came back to xda forums and found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...m-ruu-htc-one-max-809d-t6dwg-sense-5-t3006498
i know this is for t6dwg variant.
t6dwg and t6dug are both Chinese variants and dual sim. i have tried all roms listed on this thread. TWRP Flashed it fine but now when it boots up and gets to lock screen, when i unlock it it show HTC white screen and restarts after a min or so.
I went to the store and purchased another htc one max, same variant. HTC-2
i thought maybe make a nandroid back up and flash it to HTC-1
i repeated the steps and got HTC-2 rooted, latest TWRP, and made the back up. but i am unable to flash it into HTC-1
HTC-1 rooted with latest SuperSu, latest TWRP recovery, unlocked boothloader, s-off, cid-11111111
issues, NO OS!
http://picpaste.com/pics/htc1-l8ImCwQL.1462326306.jpg
HTC-2 rooted with latest SuperSu, latest TWRP recovery, unlocked boothloader, s-off, cid-11111111, boots perfect,
issues, bloatware
http://picpaste.com/pics/htc2-BrCDb5Tw.1462326402.jpg
lets not forget its been about a month since i am trying to figure this out without disturbing developers and wasting their time. this is my last resort
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
Anyone out there to my rescue?
@waqas9240 So you made the backup with TWRP? Why not backup to an sdcard one the working one. Place the sdcard in the non-working one and do a restore.

@Flyhalf205! I know i can always count on you for this. yes i used TWRP to make the backup from the working htc and stored it on SD card. and pushed SD card on the non-working Htc but it doesnt recognize it in restore mood in TWRP. i can see the file in Install method that if it has been compressed, but it doesnt let me flash it.

Now if I remember correctly inside the TWRP folder will be another folder. The folder name could be the the serial. You'll have to get onto a computer and verify that the backup is in the correct folder inside the TWRP folder.
A good way to verify. On the non-working device, do a backup on just the boot to the sdcard. Then see if you can plug both devices into the computer at the same time to see the directory layout. Then you can copy the backup into the right folders.
Once you bring up TWRP on the non-working device. You should be able to select and swipe to restore perfectly.

thats what i thought at first. i confirmed the path on both phones. i even got to push the back up in the non working htc to restore from the root as it was located in the working htc max. still does the samething. the second folder after TWRP is serial number folder. i even renamed the serial number to the non working htc ( i dont know if that would have made a difference or not) but still running the same issue. i dont have both phones on me right now. they are at home. let me finish work and will try it again as you explained.
meanwhile if you can figure out something else that would be great bro!
Thanks

How to install an update.zip with not matching device id

Hi. Recently I stuffed my ZTE Blade A452 with MIUI ROM found on here: hxxp://forum.android.com.pl/topic/319435-a452miui-v8-miui-global-8020. I also installed TWRP . I've been using it for a while and unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. It is barely usable, phone crashes a few times a day, apps aren't kept in background.
I decided to come back to my stock ROM. I don't have, however, any back up of it. There are some sdcard packages on ZTE's support page, however when I tried to install it with TWRP, it displays that packages (all of them) are for device id P635F33, while my device is P635E40. And I found nothing for my dev id.
Is there a way to force installing one of those packages in my phone? Editing version.txt inside update.zip did nothing.
Maybe one of you guys have a matching package?
Also my sister's got the same model, Blade A452, bought at the same service provider. Maybe there is a way to extract a ROM from her phone and put it into mine? (Her device must be left quite untouched).

You Have a Same Phone Available .That is Great. You can give her Sleep Drug Sneak Into Her Room.Get the Phone From Under The pillow. And Now You can Unlock The bootloader flash TWRP Make a Backup and Then Flash Stock Recovery. Then Put The Phone Back Under The Pillow. The Process Will only Take about 30Mins.
5Min to unlock Bootloader
2.5Min to flash TWRP.
2.5Min to install stock Recovery
And 20 min to move the back Up
Or
You can Slice her Throat and Get the phone.Seriously Save 30Min of time.
Or
You can Backup Using a Desktop Application and Restore on your Phone.

Yeah, TWRP on her phone isn't an option, as the whole system is quite buggy and she's gonna probably use the restore option. I'm gonna try with some desktop apps and give an answer in 1-2 hours. Thank you.
Sorry it took so long to answer.
I couldn't make a nandroid backup any desktop app (MTK Droid Tools can't create scatter file, couldn't find any other app).
As I said, TWRP was not an option. But I managed to do the nandroid backup from phone-level anyways.
First I rooted the source device with KingRoot, installed on it BusyBox and made a custom TWRP-style backup on SDcard with Online Nandroid Backup *ROOT. Default settings are fine, even though it couldn't recognize my phone model.
Then I moved SD into target device and performed a backup with TWRP (just to create my device directory). Then I moved the source-phone backup into the new-created directory and performed Restore.
And Voila! On my phone there was a 1:1 copy of the system. It wiped out TWRP so I could perform a system Restore and get a factory-new soft.
Thank You. I didn't even realize it was possible to restore A-Backup on B-Device. Even though my sister's phone was a P635F33 (I didn't know it earlier) and mine was P635E40, it worked well.
