After trying the lag fix I could not longer open any applications they just kept force closing. I tried restarting but now the phone wont even turn back on. it stays on galaxy s screen then just goes black. I ade a back up in clock work prior to doing this but I cant access it as i was accessing it through rom manager. How can i flash the back up to recover my phone =(
IF you made the backup using NANDROID in Clockwork recovery:
boot into recovery by holding volume up+volume down+power, as soon as you see the "white vibrant", let go of power but keep holding volume up+volume down. you will be brought to recovery, it should be black background with blue text, then use your volume buttons, to go to reinstall packages, use the power button to select it, that will put you into clockwork recovery. use the volume buttons to go to Nandroid->Restore then choose your backup, Good luck.
If all else fails you may need to use ODIN to get the factory image back on, information on how to do that is in the stickies. Search for it, you will find it.
You can open the backup by holding both volume keys as you power on the phone I believe....either that or it will go into download mode and you can then use odin to flash. Hope it helps.
Edit: nevermind, look at the pay above mine lol

Recovery
Thanks for the quick replys greatly appreciated. I click reinstall packages but ti doesnt go into recovery. I'm thinking because I called the lag fix update.zip it is reinstalling that instead of the recovery..I think im still new to all this. I looked at the odin sticky. is there a way I can use that program and use the backup that is on my phone or is it lost and must I use the one that is provided in the sticky?
You can install Stock Rom Via ODIN. I found the link from this forum. I was in the same situation yesterday but I ended up flashing to Vibrant5.zip instead. After that, my files were still on the phone. If you made a backup with ROM manager, your backup files should be in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. Reinstall ROM manager and see if you can restore back to that.
I cant get into get to rom manager because my phone just boots to a black screen. is there away i can access my internal sd without having the phone booted?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 follow the instructions...worked for me last night when I 'bricked' my phone by removing twlauncher with root manager
Solution
**********SOLUTION***********
Thanks for the reply's from those that did. i ended up using odin3 which took me forever to figure out lol. The brunt of my problems was getting into download mode. after searching the internet for which seemed like for ever and 100 unsuccessful attempts to get into download mode I came across on post that really helped.
I had to turnoff the phone, plug it in and wait until i seen the green battery indicator. Once i saw it i held down both volume up and down keys then pressed power. The key was as soon as the battery indicator disappeared you have to let go of power.
that worked on the first try for me from there it was smooth sailing. Odin is very simple but its the little things that are very tricky and because i didnt know what the protocol was I didnt know whether I was even in download mode or not, so these are some things to know
*you will no when you are in download mode because a picture of a yellow triangle will appear on the screen with an android in the middle with a shovel digging.
*No the recovery menu is not download mode
*Just because Odin detects the phone(Displays COM port in yellow) Does not mean you are in download mode....Which was my misconception.
*The "analyzing file" message should only appear briefly a minute or two max. Anything longer is not normal and Odin needs to be reset as well as the whole process.
*It doesn't take to long to flash and it WORKS I am back on stock and happy as hell =)
Thanks again to those that helped and good luck to any future brickers.
i just saw this post but what i did was to save the clockwork update.zip into my computer and downloaded this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739300. unzipped it and deleted the root.zip from the directory and renamed update.zip to root.zip and hit rootme.bat
the program will push root.zip (clockwork recovery) into phone and reboot into recovery while stuck in any screen =)
I had this exact same set of issues. Ultimately what caused the problem is the fact Busybox wasn't installed. I ran the update.zip version that supposedly had busybox, ran the script and then all of my programs crashed. The phone would never reboot after that. Ultimately saved it with Odin and was able to restore my nandroid backup after getting ROM Manager going again. Very scary hour there!

Super Hard Bricked my SGH T959 Vibrant
Please PLEASEEEEEE HELP ME ... PLEASE
I was flashing jelly bean 4.1 (my previous version was ICS 4.0 by ExROM by LightX). When I rebooted my phone it was showing the Vibrant screen >> "VIBRANT SAMSUNG". then my phone was not starting. it was stocked in the screen. i did CWM recovery but it was also not working. I have tried many ways by ODIN or Heimdell Soft Unbrick. but now i get into only downloading mode. no vibrant screen isn't appearing. only one time ODIN can recognize my phone then i haven't the t959 tar file. so i didn't flash that time. after that i gave soft unbrick by Heimdell's software then my download mode went off and not restarting. by the way when i downloaded the TAR file and connect to ODIN then ODIN couldn't recognize my phone. my PC can recognize my phone but ODIN can't. whenever i give soft unbrick the download screen goes off. i have tried two computers and two cables. same problem appearing. i have also tried all odin versions but these are not working. only one time ODIN can recognize my phone. further before, when i gave volume up + volume down + power button then RST_STAT = 0*0 ..... appearing and an android said "UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" but now there is no android but the red little letters still appearing on my screen. PLEASE BOSS HELP ME... PLEASE .
I have Samsung Galaxy Ace (GTS-5830i). Last week, while checking my emails, it got hanged. I tried a lot but no button was working (responding). So, I restarted it by removing-fix again the battery. But when I restarted it, it gave multiple error windows regarding all the backend processes being interrupted unexpectedly. I took it to Samsung Service Center, but technician there denied doing anything, since the phone was brought from abroad and it was Made in Vietnam piece. He told me to send the phone to the country from where it was bought. I took it to one friend technician, but even he told me the same.
Then I thought of format the phone myself with idea that it might make things like before, but even that option was not working. So I tried it to format by pressing Volume Up/Down+Power+Home Buttons together. The phone started with a window just like DOS Prompt in computers. It had 4 options:
Reboot system now
Apply update from sd card
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
I selected 3rd one i.e. wipe data/factory reset.
It took me to another window saying, “Confirm wipe of all user data? This can’t be undone. I selected:
Yes –delete all user data
Then I rebooted it.
Now it is just starting again and again with the phone name and model number (as it comes when we start a phone). It is switching on-off by itself and it is going on.
I tried to connect the phone to laptop through Kies, but was able to connect only once after numerous attempts, and that showed that there is no firmware in the phone!
I googled the problem and got a probable solution by putting back the firmware using Odin software and the firmware file. I downloaded these from net. But the instructions to use Odin software are:
Open phone Settings>Applications> Development and enable USB Debugging.
Installing Stock Gingerbread Firmware Turn off you phone and boot it into Download mode: hold down the Volume Down + Volume Up buttons, then long press the Power key till the your phone’s screen turns up and you see the Download mode screen.
Since, I can’t even switch on phone and access anything on it; I can’t follow these instructions and use this software because it is switching on-off again and again by itself.
Please help.
Go HERE Nothing to worry about USB debuging Just Follow that Thread
Are you able to going in DOWNLOAD mode by pressing power + Vol Up + Vol down.
If it is possible then read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552792
It may help you.

This is stock not rooted phone. A couple of days ago I turned it off and turned it back on but it keeps getting to the galaxy SII black logo screen and reboots. Its an endless cycle. It never gets past that. I have spent the last two days looking for solutions online. One suggested solution that made sense was a stuck power button, but that wasn't it for me. I took the phone apart cleaned the button, its not stuck. Problem is still there. My main concern is the data on the phone storage. I did not back it up. I can't access it via usb since it doesnt fully boot up. What could be the issue? Thanks for the help.
...stock, not rooted. This means that we definitely don't have adb access.
when you say "data on the phone storage" do you mean photos and media? Those items are stored on a separate partition and are more easily salvageable.
App data will be a tougher project.

You will lose anything in the data partition, which includes text messages and your phone book. You will not lose pictures or media or recording that are saved to the internal sdcard (USB memory). I know your photos are safe, but I'm not sure about any other media or call recordings. It all depends on whether they are stored on the internal sdcard or in the data partition.
I don't know of any way to save anything in the data partition at this point, unless the phone miraculously boots into the current system.
You should may be able to recover the phone by reinstalling the stock firmware. Maybe not if there was some type of hardware issue. The best way to find out is to try to reinstall and see what happens.

Install the stock firmware using Odin3 v1.85 (preferred). Install the latest stock firmware, I777UCMD8, which you can get from the download repository. It's the next to bottom item. If you need to download Odin, there is a link near the top of the page.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.
11.) When complete, you will get a PASS code (or an error code if unsuccessful).

After flashing the stock firmware, assuming all goes well and you get a pass, your phone still may not boot. In that case, turn the phone off, boot into stock recovery by holding all three buttons of pwr vol+ and vol-. Once in stock recovery, perform a wipe data/factory reset.

Wait I am confused...the phone has booted up and everything is okay. it even remembered my window unlock passcode. The only thing different is that the operating system was upgraded. Are you saying it might not boot up if I turn it off and turn it on again?
No. I was suggesting that the phone might not boot initially after flashing the stock rom. In that case it would be necessary to wipe in order to get it to boot the first time. On re-reading your post #7 I see that the phone was already booted at the time I wrote that, and that what I said was irrelevant.
Hi guys,
i updated my galaxy alpha to lollipop but i found a little big problem: recent button doen's work anymore. It doens't even light when pressed. I read some threads here on xda about people experiencing this issue and i decided to open a new thread to try to fix this kind of problem.
As first "fix" i found helpful enable the super sensitive touch.
And you guys?
if u a using the G850f model, try to backup your data. Then do a complete data and cache wipe (hard reset) then install a clean lolipop update and see if it will work.

Yup you are right - however my phone is cool but still no left key. if i put it in the fridge then it works for a few mins.
on 4.4 never had this issue.
xef personal conclusion
hy, im from romania and flashed in odin the xef lollipop last night
till now no problem, works like a charm, slightly more performant than kk and more battery saver, recent app button works, im happy, so far no issues! ...finger cross....
fore the ones with issues try to update like me, with odin in these steps:
!!! charge phone battery to 100% with wall plug and make sure your phone is a free carrier type - the SM-G850F. download the france lollipop xef from samsung firmware site and download odin 3.10 from same place. unpack odin to a folder and then unpack the firmware downloaded to same odin folder.
1. backup to pc, cloud, etc. all you need - optional, but dont cry after for loosing your naked girl pics
2. shut down phone and make a factory reset - enter with volum up+home+power
DO NOT RESET THE CACHE - ONLY RESET DATA/FACTORY RESET
3. start odin and after this restart from earlier bootloader, let the phone start normally like after every normal reset but when ask for setup (first window screen where asks for language, accessibility, etc) dont begin anything and shut down the phone - press power and choose shutdown
4. start phone in download mode with vol. down+home+power and when in, select continue, a window with odin mode will appear
5. now connect phone to pc and in odin should appear as recognised, the square become blue and shows the com port number
6. in odin select the AP button and choose the firmware unpacked, unzipped, with the .md5 at the end of the name
7. make sure the RE-PARTITION checkhole is unchecked and the freset time and autorestart are checked, and hit start to begin flash
8. be patient and wait to finnish, it has several steps like copying (a blue line in download mode), restarting and upgrading/deleting things, restarting again and showing the galaxy alpha logo - DO NOT TOUCH IT, LET THE PHONE TO FINNISH, and after few minutes the amazing setup window appear !
9. disconnect the phone from computer, close odin, and shut down the phone!
10. start the phone in bootloader with vol. up+home+power and make a factory reset/wipe data but do not delete/reset the cache after, just data/factory reset
11. restart phone and enjoy your lollipop
if all this is made like i said then you should encounter no issues!
give feedback for help or if issues appear!

Mine also not working when phone is high temperature. Try cooling it down
I have updated to lollipop without any reset.
Have not found any bugs jet.
I was wondering maybe it has something to do with the region your phone comes from, according to the recent button not working?
I had the same problem, and I did this:
Went to Chrome - Settings - Combine Tabs and Apps. I deactivated the option, and by mistake, hit the back button, and started working.
Eventhough the option is Deactivated, when I press the left button, I can see Chorme's tabs wtithin the Recents Apps.
After that had to install and app from Google Play, and after doing so, the button stoped working again. I restarted de phone, and 20 minutes later, the button started working. I have no clue of what's going on.

Still doesn't work.
I always do factory reset, dalvic & cash & than flash new rom, ater instalig it I wipe dalvic again .
All working ,except in new Eudemony V4(5.0.2) deodex break recovery & stack on EULA Data conection.
possible solution - NONE, till region versions come out
i start to believe more and more that this issue has to do with region scrambling software glitches - scientifically said
probably some regions are compatible and some aren't
I tried to change the settings in display settings by increasing the sensitivity and it works. Eureka!:victory:
Try it for yourself.. go to settings under display.
Same issue will it work with other 5.x roms?
I have the same issue. I have not rooted this phone yet. I sent it back to Virgin and they downgraded it back to 4.4.4 then sent it back "fixed". Since I got no feedback I thought it must have been an issue during the update. So I updated again and Recent apps is still not working. I am using an app that brings up the menu for now. I am hoping that 5.1 will fix this issue anyone know the odds on that? Also I am willing to root and loose warranty IF it will work under a custom Rom (or will it not because the ROM would be based on 5.0.1?) Is downgrading pretty risky? I have only rooted with my nexus 4 and moto G and only ran Cyangenmod. so I am not sure of the risks of downgrading. (I remember it being risky in my iphone days). Any thoughts or suggestions?
My Tab S6 tried to auto-install an update yesterday (it is rarely connected to Wifi/internet). It then rebooted. Since then, it's been stuck in a boot loop.
It will display the "Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 | Secured By Knox" logo screen for a few seconds, then switch to the blue "Installing System Update" screen (with the android logo). Installing System Update gets to 28% and stops. Then the rotating icon on the android freezes. Then the device reboots and starts all over again.
Edit: the tablet is 100% stock. It's not been rooted or had any custom ROMs loaded.
I have tried getting to recovery mode, by holding power+volup while it boots. This doesn't seem to change the behavior at all. Any advice is much appreciated.

I can't actually shut it down. If I start holding power+voldown right after it boots, the tablet does reboot before getting stuck at 28%. But it reboots--it doesn't power off.
I tried download mode and that actually seemed to work! Specifically, I left the tablet overnight in the reboot loop until the battery drained. Just now, I held down volup+voldown and plugged it into my laptop. I got the green "Warning/Custom OS" screen and then pressed volup to continue. The tablet rebooted pretty quickly after that (I'm guessing due to low battery) so I didn't get a good look at the download mode options.
Once I'm in download mode, can I factory reset the tablet? I don't need to preserve any data/apps/settings.

You cannot reset the tablet from Download mode afaik- You need to enter Recovery Mode to do that.
You can however, flash stock from Download mode using Odin (3.13.3 is best). If you're not confident with doing that, your best option is Factory Reset in Recovery Mode. Hold Volume Up and Power when the Tablet is booting, let go when you see the Samsung logo. The timing can be tricky, but you should be able to do it. Also, you can force a reboot with Volume Down and Power.
Alternatively, if factory reset doesn't work, since you're completely stock, you will still be covered under warrenty.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried this many many times. I've tried letting go of the buttons at different times. I've tried holding volup while letting go of power. I've tried this a ton of different ways, and no matter what, the tablet always shows the "Installing system update" screen. Some googling has led me to believe that sometimes, when performing a factory reset, the "Installing system update" screen shows up right before the normal recovery screen. Is it possible that the tablet is trying to get to recovery mode, but can't get past this first step?

Honestly, I don't know - I'm not an expert but I guess it's possible that the update failed and corrupted both System and Recovery.
You'll be covered under warrenty, so maybe just return the Tablet from where you purchased or direct to Samsung, could take a while given the current situation though I guess. If you have a PC, then I think the best option would be to just flash stock yourself, since that's probably all Samsung will do. Even if that doesn't work you'd still be covered under warrenty, as far as I'm aware attempting to flash stock doesn't trip Knox.

My Tab S6 tried to auto-install an update yesterday (it is rarely connected to Wifi/internet). It then rebooted. Since then, it's been stuck in a boot loop.
...
Edit: the tablet is 100% stock. It's not been rooted or had any custom ROMs loaded.
I have tried getting to recovery mode, by holding power+volup while it boots. This doesn't seem to change the behavior at all. Any advice is much appreciated.

Despair not...I have just come from resolving this exact situation not 30 minutes ago. I'd been trying to flash (using Odin as I decided to stay on Stock and not root this device, for a change) the latest OneUI2.1 releases for my device (SM-T865 - LTE version) and boom in the middle of the Odin update, the flash just failed...I then couldn't reboot and get into neither Recovery, nor Download Mode because it appears my bootloader and recovery both got corrupted.
Here's what you need....
1. Odin app for PC (am on Windows)
2. Your device's Stock firmware (sammobile firmware archive)
3. You will need someone to help you boot the device directly into Download mode (and this is the tricky part because for most of us we are used to get into Bootloader by using the key combination (from Powered Off device) Vol+ and Power On at the same time to get into stock recovery and then scrolling down to option 2 in this menu, "Reboot to Bootloader". Well now you are going to boot directly into Bootloader mode. Here's how you do it...
4. Get your friend to line up the USB-C cable into the port of the device, but DO NOT press it in...yet
5. Press Power off and Vol- buttons at the same time to turn off the device
6. And now you have to to be super fast: if device starts to turn on on its own, YOU press and hold Vol+ and Vol- both at the same time while YOUR FRIEND pushes the USB cable fully into the port - you should now have booted directly into Download mode. (if not repeat this, and remember to be super fast and sync with your friend pushing in the USB cable)...
7. When you get into Download mode, then you are home and dry...
8. Select ONLY the Bootloader file (BL...XX...) in Odin, make sure only "reset time" and "reboot" are ticked, and flash
9. When device reboots, press Vol+ and Power combo to get back into Bootloader mode again...but I think device will reboot into Download mode on its own
10. Now select all the files from your Stock file into the various tabs (BL, CP, CSC, AP...) do not select HOME_CSC as we want to flush this device clean...
11. Flash, and voila...success - you will have lost all your data but rather that than losing the device...
12. Feedback here and let us know if this works? For reference for others in the future...
FYI, I got in this situation, and the previous post did work for me, just takes good timing! Thanks!!!!
Same issue today for me. My tablet showed different screen with green and red text, it allowed me to delete app data, then booted into safe mode, then i had to do factory reset and now i am screwed, as it is refusing to restore any apps and their settings. I will try to flash it back to Android 9, maybe then it will do the restore. I forgot to do any manual backup to SD or so.
Edit: the device upgraded to 10, but reset itself after about 10 minutes of use.
Edit2: i found what caused it. It is caused by Nova Launcher, if i try to set wallpaper.
Just found a news article that there is a RGB/sRGB problem with wallpapers. It might be the problem i had.
I am adding a screenshot of the result.
Yeah, I had that kind of reboot loop from a wallpaper that I downloaded

Hi,
Really need your help, after I updated my firmware using Odin, updated BL, AP, CP, CSC, my tab cannot boot up stuck in logo. Doing the Power + volume up leads me to different screen now. I cannot access recovery mode or download page anymore,
What must I do? Pleasssee help. Added the pic, after doing hard reset (power + vol up)
I cannot connect back to Odin also. Always setup connection failed.
Please help. Really messed up big time
Just a thought... Can this be restored from service center?
Thank you in advance.
I have the same problem with a Tab S6 Lite, it is in bootloop and does not let me enter the recovery mode, I can go into download mode and I flashed the latest original firmware Android11, Android10 etc., . I tried them all but always goes in bootloop, and also the bootloop occurs only if I connect the usb cable to the PC, without any sign of life. Do I still have hopes or have I compromised the motherboard?
The reason for all this is because I had followed a guide to give root permissions with magisk, I did everything right, only that the guide was with Android10, while I had Android11 and I was deceived by the fact that in the title of the guide there was written "guide 2021"
, so I did not check the compatibility of operating systems, I was a fool, I know, I hope so much that I did nothing irretrievable, it's my son's tablet!

Did you use HOME CSC or the non HOME CSC when flashing?

Download the android 11 last rooted rom from there. You install it with odin as as a normal original rom.
Disable in odin auto reboot. After rom install, restart manually and press the correct buttons immediately to boot in Twrp and not to system. Format (not wipe) data from there and reboot to system. If you are lucky it will work..
(I hope you unlocked bootloader before try to root. If you haven't unlocked bootloader this won't work also).

Flash in odin the same rom you had. There are 2 csc files in rom, which you use 1 in odin one. Try use the "home csc". Home csc keep KEEPS your data. If you're lucky it may work. (It would work in keeping your data 100% if your rom was ok. Because it isn't you have some changes to work.).
You must try with same rom or newer.
CSC – If you flash the CSC file, it’ll perform a factory reset of your Galaxy device and wipe all data while installing a new firmware to bring your device to the same state as it was when you purchased it. Go with CSC if you want a clean installation.
HOME_CSC – On the other hand, if you want to keep your Samsung phone’s data and settings even flashing the stock firmware, you can select the HOME_CSC file.
