Been spending too much time flipping back and forth between the dev forum and here trying to find the latest scoop on what is going on with a permanent root solution. With the threads getting closed and people getting banned over on the dev forum, not even the devs are posting any real updates there any more. And here... the threads are broken up. So how about one consolidated thread to talk about status, rumors, etc.? ONE place to go to get the latest scoop.
For example, TeamWin posted on Twitter yesterday that there are no big announcements and they've run into a lot of roadblocks. Also said something about having to try different avenues now. Sounds like permaroot could take a while. Maybe someone posted that info here somewhere, but it's hard to tell where to look any more to find the latest status, rumors, and talk about root. Even the devs have given up posting in the dev forum.

I think it's time to put the screws back to HTC to make good on their "promise"
This phone WILL be going back if they don't unlock it.
It's ok, as good as these devs are... I never really expected full root unless HTC unlocks the phone.
I just hate that this site, well at least the 3D section has become retardedly over moderated. Perfect example of someone who doesn't need a bus patrol badge IMO.

Yep that's exactly what I was about to say. Heck, it's even stickied at the top of the dev page.. Not sure why this thread exists.
If you guys actually want success with the return under 30 days policy, you need to give that threat to the CARRIER and have them place the pressure on HTC. It will NOT hurt the HTC bottom line if you return your phone to sprint. Sprint already bought the phone FROM HTC. So it hurts Sprint, not HTC.

That thread (and the other one there) don't do the job. That's why this one exists! First of all, if I only wanted to be updated once a day, there wouldn't be a worn out blank key between F4 and F6 on my keyboard.
Second, us "normal" users can't post in that forum and those threads are not updated as regularly (or as well) as you say. Right now, if you wanted to know the latest status (from Twitter) that says "#teamwin No big announcement tonight. We hit some pretty big road blocks. But I'm working on a new angle to Fre3dom" you can't find it any place but here. People who have their ear to the ground should be able to post what they find... when they find it.

Well, in that thread....my is there no mention about fre3dom..just says about the fre3^vo and permanent root..nothing about s-off coming up...on the the status and upcoming items are?

You won't get an ETA because one can't be given yet. Until someone actually achieves a full unlock, you can't possibly say how long it will take. You just keep trying different things until you break through. Once a full unlock is achieved then it's a matter of hours or a few days before it will be released so that the unlock can be put into an easy-to-use format & combined with other nice things like a custom recovery. There's also no telling who will find the unlock. It might be TeamWin or Unrevoked or someone else.

Guys, can we please use better judgment when creating new threads? Many threads are redundant and is only cluttering the board. The Hero and EVO 4G boards were cleaner and more mature, then again maybe its because newer posters have less experience with forum etiquette. There are threads that adequately address the root status and progress, you can't get updates like a stock ticker. Your unrooted phone won't gain a thing from minimal updates, and asking for more than an update a day is a bit impatient. Let the devs work in peace, they are not obligated to do this and I'd rather they try to achieve full root rather than worry about reporting news. Even when they update no news they get criticized?

I've seen devs walk away because of the behavior of people and to be honest its hard blaming them. If there is an update it'll be in the threads, the info is not hard to find. I think that this thread is better judgment. The Op posted that he wanted to discuss status, rumors, etc... Go post rumors in the actual dev threads. Tell me how that works out.
Whenever anyone posts in the the dev threads they are usually told to go make a post in general. Thats what this op did. I would rather see this thread created to discuss speculation then see the mods freak out because people are cluttering up the dev threads and start locking **** down so that the real Devs have to go post to forums other than XDA to get the word / files out. THAT is embarrassing. Not posting a thread to help keep the dev threads clean. Its not in the Dev forum, its in the general forum.
Let it be.
Oh and yeah... I'm not trying to be a **** either. Just telling you how it is when the Mods freak out over people talking in the Dev thread.

Fred3dom is no root...no shoot Sherlock..do we need to be censored for asking questions? To some..like me...root is a step to a more important goal...s-off. I am basing my decision to spend hard earned cash for this beast. And if these threads are out of hand...go to any forum...see if there is not humor(sometimes not related to the topic)...see if there is not a release of ideas that are free flowing. See if there is not a bond or sometimes hatred for others. The rules state...this thing is called xda is for sharing of ideas...by the community for the community, developers of software for these devices and newbies that need help. If we have such strict rules...then why have this forum? Exactly! And try to find one thread where all the latest rumors and info is being posted. DOES NOT EXIST. That's exactly why this thread exists. So in keeping on topic, the latest rumor mill shows that HTC is apparently getting ready to unlock the bootloader on the Sensation. Rumors are the 3vo shouldn't be far behind. My proposal was to keep ALL of this new info in ONE thread. Else you end up with the problem I was trying to solve which is every new little tidbit creating a new thread. Tomorrow "New email from HTC..." will be irrelevant to most and that'll scroll off the bottom of the forum and get lost for the people who haven't seen it yet. Post all this stuff HERE and we can keep up to date.
I know forum etiquette: I run my own forums. So I don't need lectures from mod-wanna-be's. But this IS a good place to keep all the info where everyone can see it: IF people stop posting every little tidbit as different threads.

didn't see a thread for this posted anywhere, and I'm not too sure how many people have seen it. just a few minutes ago I got a text from VM about the update. not too sure what it all pertains too except for that it states that it's a vulnerability patch. being rooted and on a custom ROM, I don't wanna take the chance of doing the update and possibly bricking. anyone wanna provide some input?

There is an FAQ about it with a link to the NIST page that lists data exploits but no real information as to what the exploit might be that this "fixes" or even what risks you might be exposed to if you don't install it.

I already installed it on my backup phone without thinking that it may block me from rooting it, at least until the next vulnerability is discovered.
It also has a new baseband. So that may be a problem as far as using a custom ROM as well. DOH! x 2
On the upside it seems to have fixed the Time Without Signal battery drain bug. I have had the phone running for a couple days just using WiFi since it isn't activated yet and it is still at 80%. No heavy use but I am leaving WiFi and GPS on all the time and checking the News & Weather whenever I think of it to try to run the battery down so that I can calibrate it.

OP, you realize that as a T-mobile USA user, who owns an SGH-T989, you are actually in the wrong forum for your device, right? (I've also noticed you've posted in the Epic 4G Touch forums as well...)
I've already tried to tell you once that you're posting in the wrong forums. I guess it's up to you to realize what you're doing.
I'm not saying it as a matter of you're not allowed to post here, but if you request ports, mods, firmwares or kernels, and you post in a device forum that ISN'T yours, people will link you to solutions that will NOT work for your phone, and in all likelihood cause you no shortage of headaches if you decide to follow their instructions or install stuff they link you to.
Your device (SGH-T989) has VERY different hardware from the GT-I9100 and the Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710).
But it's up if you want to continue to post in other device forums.

Well, the reason it won't work for you is because the app only works on ICS, apparently. Not because of your device. (That link is to a post in the HTC Sensation forum)

A new hacked version of svoice have been released. I tried it on my GS2 running ICS Resurrection 1.9.1 and it is working with no issue. It bypass verification by Samsung. Just copy the zip file to your SDCard and flash using CWM.

i have a VERIZON NOTE 2 and used exynos abuse to root, i DO NOT have the bootloader unlocked, and have done UNROOT via Exynos abuse and still show status "modified" HOW DO I FIX because i have lost my 4G service and customer NO-service couldnt fix it , i need to take it back to VZW tommorrow and all the threads on here seem to be retarded clutter outdated garbage nerdspeak babble SO any UPDATED ways of removing the "modified" status, (i know that this stupid site likes to leave questions unanswered for a lonnnng time. and after the hours of frustrating searching on this "seems" to be useless site i need help.. i probably posted in wrong spot or something but i dont care HELPPPPPP... PLEASE DONT GIVE ME SOME BS JUST HELP PLEASEEE. TRIANGLE AWAY ONLY WORKS ON UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER AND I HAVE VERIZON AS I SAID IN THE BEGINNING..

Step 3: Power device off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".
Step 4: Open Odin and connect the oem usb cable from pc to device. The driver should automatically install( it did for me on windows 7 64bit). There should also be a "comport number" in upper left hand corner of Odin indicating communication between the pc & device.
Step 5: Click on the pit function of Odin and select the sch-i605-16gb.pit file.
Step 6: Click on the PDA function of Odin. Select the stock VRALJB image you downloaded in step 1, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before Odin will say pass/reset.
Step 7: Your device should boot back up into factory stock 4.1.1 android!

UPDATE: first: sorry about the A-holeness, lol i had dealt with verizon on the phone for WAY TOO LONG! and you know how that feels

and for the life of me could not find a solution to fix the issue
Second, i was able to return to "normal" status, apparently the google wallet hack was the problem, but still had no 4G, they replaced the simcard which fixed it and also somehow changed the status back to "modified" ??? then an hour later the phone went into a boot loop vzw said they would send me a "certified like -new" phone, still not sure if i should just accept the "like-new" or keep my original (now working because i flashed it back to stock with some guide that some A-Hole posted )

He probably read your first post and quit reading since you were an @ss, that's why I and most others here didn't help you. If you would have just asked instead of insulting everyone here you would have got a link to a back to stock thread, and if you had anymore specific questions you would have been helped. Judging by this response you weren't just annoyed at the time, your just an @ss who has no idea what he's doing, and Iphone would be perfect for you, it's idiot proof.

Glad you recovered your phone.
If it was me I would keep the one you know works. Let Verizon send the second hand phone to someone else.

Google wallet hack has nothing to do with triangle notification and 4G signal being dropped. You probably rooted wrong. If I were you, I'll just keep my original note2 and figure out to clear the mess. There is always solution to this and every methods are currently workable.

Hello,
My girl has a Desire X which she loves and won't quite let me touch and root (boo!).
However, I just noticed that there seems to be an update available for it. The problem is, hers seems to be stuck with 4.0.4, and the update checker doesn't provide anything fresher...
Am I missing something? Are these country-specific? Is there something I can do?

I think some posters are unaware how the forum works.
We have had many posts on this subject before.
Eastern Europe seems to be the only ones to have got the latest 4.1.5 updates at the moment.
No one really knows when the rest will follow, i am sure HTC are working on a few things.
Its in HTC's interest to release the updates ASAP.
So lets just be patient here.
