Is Sony Backup&Restore firmware dependent? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I sent my xperia z2 to repair one month ago and am expecting to get it in a few days. I've backed up my important sys and app data to SDcard with sony backup&restore app(lollipop 5.0.2) and i want to restore them after a clean 5.1.1 install... upgrading to 5.1.1 after restore is an option but then it wont be a clean install of 5.1.1. maybe i should restore and back up again with 5.1.1 but i dont know
Has anyone tried this? is the backup app of Sony firmware dependent?

Yes.

Luckily not from an iPhone = Yesterdays technology at tomorrows prices

Apparently its not possible to do restore on different firmware. I had done it today and can not restore it back on 5.1.1 . So do an backup with 5.1 first.

Thank you very much. So let's hope the stupid store wont do me a favor and update it to 5.1.1 without asking.

@saldirai You welcome
Is there a way to open and view pictures and videos in .semc-fullbackup ? When i try to open them it says that they are damaged.... Help my pics :/

Tablet Z ROMS Or Updates?

Hi Guys
I own a Xperia Tablet Z and I live in South Africa, why I state where I live is because I'm assuming updates take forever to get here
4.3 was released for Xperia devices in December, and its now 7 January and I haven't received the 4.3 update, now I don't know if I should wait and hope to get it or just load the custom ROM?
Cause if I'm waiting for 4.3, how long will it take for 4.4 to get here
Wait for updates? Or just load custom ROM
Custom Roms are the best, cause I can always change, but I also like having the original state that Sony does there UI
Ideas?
Hi, how are you checking for the update? I ask because for now there is no OTA update. You can only update by PC Companion or the Sony Update Service.
I also like to keep my tablet looking stock but I like to get rid of bloat ware and Sony apps I don't use. Because of the lack of development and custom roms for this device I decided to update by PC Companion and then disable the apps I don't want in settings - apps. That way I have stock without the bloatware.

You can also download a ftf and Flash it via Flashtools. Stock ROM, but manual install...

[Q] How to Upgrade to 4.4 Kitkat On Z Ultra?

Hey guys, I live in Ontario Canada, and I am looking to purchasing the Z Ultra from the U.S via ebay, its the model Xperia C6833.
The phone comes with Android 4.3 Jellybean, my question is though that how do I upgrade to 4.4 Kitkat? Is it an easy thing to do or do I have to start rooting and all that nonsense? I am hoping its just done by hitting an update button or some thing like in iTunes.
I am coming from an iPhone so I have never owned or worked with an Android.
I would really appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Easy, just install PC companion (or if you are on a mac what ever the equivalent is), plug in the Ultra and update. You dont even need the PC software normally as it can download the updates its self.
If all else fails you can use a handy tool called Flashtool and manually flash FTFs (packaged Sony updates that the comunity have downloaded and put together [equivalent to doing a full wipe/factory reset of the firmware with Sony's software])

[Q] How to install a google stock ROM and update

Hi, this will probably be a silly question but I can't find a straightway answer for it.
I've just bought an used Sony Xperia Z2. Coming from a Nexus 4 I would like to be able to get an Android stock ROM in my Z2. Not the stock ROM with Sony add ons, but something as close as I would get in a Nexus device.
Is that possible? And after I do it, will it update automatically to new versions of Android?

You want Vanilla android or Pure Android. The Sony add on Android is actually the lightest skin from an OEM (HTC, Samsung, LG, Huawei) so I don't really get the incentive to change it. But if you must all you need to do is:
- turn on developer mode on the phone
-unlock the bootloader on said phone
-flash custom recovery, then use recovery to make Nandroid Backup of stock system
-at this point you can either root your phone or just flash your choice of ROM (CM, Paranoid Android, Aurora are good vanilla options).
Once you flash a custom rom you will no longer automatic OTA updates. You will have to manually flash any updated ROM.
YouTube for more details.
You could do little tweaks to make your Z2 appear like Pure Android without flashing a rom. U can do things like: installing Google launcher or Nova launcher, Google keyboard, Google calender, etc
Ok, thank you.
So my only option is installing something like Cyanogenmod I see. I was getting confused by the AOSP build from Sony and what it was abut but now I see it's not really usable for normal phone operations.

[Q] Aosp ROM thinks my Z2 is Z3 (Leo)

Hello!
I have Sony Xperia Z2 D6503, unlocked bootloader.
I wanted to go AOSP, so I've rooted my phone, and downloaded an aosp rom for it, (Z2/SIRIUS/D6503 CYANOGENMOD 12.0 UNOFFICIAL NIGHTLY BUILDS LOLLIPOP 5.0.2).
I have a recovery (TWRP and Philz Touch).
But, problem is, as soon as I pick rom to flash, it checks my device and says that: 'this is a rom for D6503,Sirius, etc but this is Leo' (Leo is a name for Z3)
I figured out that something may be wrong with my build.prop, so I've downloaded build.prop editor and checked all the values, but they were correct.
I've reinstalled back stock rom, but it didn't help either. Sill all aosp (I've tried other roms as well) says I'm Leo.
I'm out of ideas what to do next, now I'm back on Sony stock. Maybe someone will have an idea what's the issue.
Thank you,
Cheers,
Matthew

You tried installing a AOSP ROM from Z3?
Z2 was said Leo
The same issue was there when I was installing the cynogenmod in Xperia.Z2 D6503.
N also tried the Z3 version cynogenmod. But its also got terminated while of the model no.
Please do develop any custom rom for Xperia Z2 (Leo)....
Did you try changing your recovery?

Z2 says it's leo
Hi,
Could u suggest the recovery which should be run on device.
To find the better result.

Vishal
Hey I haven't installed cm or aosp for a while but when I did I remember I would get wired errors like this if I didn't factory reset my phone first. Have you tried to wipe everything in recovery before flashing the rom?

Downgrade Sony LT25i from Android v 5.1.1 to original v. 4.3.

Hi guys,
I upgraded my Sony LT25i to version 5.1.1 with CyanogenMod rom (cm-12.1-20150620-UNOFFICIAL-tsubasa), but since it randomly reboots and have other issues which i couldn't find solutions for (applications stops etc) I want to downgrade the version to how it was before. I took a backup of the phone before I started, but it seems like "Sony Bridge for Mac" application doesn't take a "full backup" (only images contacts and so on), so now I don't know how I can go back to Android version 4.3, cant even find original rom for my phone..
Where can I find the correct version for my Sony LT25i tsubasa? And how can I reinstall everything to stable version 4.3.?
As you might guess, I have no super skills on this, so I can honestly say that I am a noob. Please be kind =)
Big thanks in advance.
