i got a rezound from a friend cause the power button was broke. i fixed it and turned the phone on and it got stuck on the white htc screen. i have read for days trying to get this phone to work and nothing. all i know about the phone is what ive done to it. fastboot is the only thing it will do. wont go into recovery or anything else. i did get it unlocked and it says tampered above unlocked and s-on. i did get it to get to the recovery part with the green arrow circle but then it cut off and i cant get it to do anything except fastboot now. any suggestions on what i should try next?

still trying to figure out how i got it to get to the green arrow circle on recovery before it went blank.
it doesnt charge either. jst has the orange light come on for a few seconds then goes off and thats it.
i have tried flashing everything from a bunch of other posts, both fastboot flashing and ph98img.zip flashing but nothing seems to be working. i dont even know if getting it to s-off would help anything if i can even do that.

Hi Everyone,
I have a stock Flyer that is stuck rebooting. It never makes it past the HTC quietly brilliant white screen. It reboots every 2 minutes or so.
Here are the steps I have tried from other posts:
1. I tried going to recovery, but it just comes up with the red exclamation point after a few seconds.
2. I tried installing ADB, but it never finds the device. Granted I can't get the device to get past the spash screen, so I have only tried ADB from the white "bios" screen (I think that is called the bootloader screen)
3. I have plugged it into the wall and charged it up. It seems to charge just fine.
4. I tried plugging into my PC for 30 minutes as other posts suggested.
I have not tried a factory reset, and would prefer not to. I'm actually travelling for 2 more weeks, and can't even reload my media until I get home.
Does anyone have any more ideas?
Tell me what the white screen says. It should have your version information on it

Looks like there was a firmware update today. Don't know if that caused this or not. Thanks for the help.
Did you do anything prior to this happening or just poof?
Have you ever done the s off, CM custom recovery, root?
I would think you could flash your stock ruu or s off flash recovery then flash a custom gingerbread room like lee Android

still not booting
No, I have never tried anything custom with this at all.
I don't think I've ever even seen the bootloader screen until this problem occurred. No custom recovery or root. I'm afraid I don't know what "s off" means.
No luck with just removing the SD card. It still is stuck in a reboot cycle.
The last thing I remember doing is rebooting it (by holding down the power button). A couple apps had been a little sluggish that day, so I thought a reboot would help. I rebooted and put it in my bag. I don't think it ever recovered from the reboot.
Thanks again.
go to fastboot mode and enter:
fastboot rease cache
then try to boot.
If that still fails, put the flyer in fastboot mode and run the correct RUU for your device.
Ok my wife's htc amaze 4g froze this morning and now will only show the htc screen. I just got this phone last week and did not get a chance to root it. Is there an option of rooting the phone in this state and getting it out of a softbrick state?

can you get into bootloader? volume down + power
Yes but I didn't know if I had to have it rooted before I was able to do anything.
When I access the bootloader it says
Loading PH85DIAG.zip.......
no image!
Loading PH85DIAG.nbh......
No image or wrong image!
I have had it charging for several hours now and each time I plug it in I get a solid amber light but when I unplug the cable from the phone the light does not change and I am not able to power it on at all (i.e. no htc screen or bootloader).

wait so you no longer can power it on? there has been cases of this. You need an external charger or a different battery. You need to put the ph85IMG.zip file in the root of your sd card or EXT_SD
can't you factory reset your phone in the bootloader too? since you're stock and all
Thanks but I decided to just exchange the phone for now. I wasn't able to even see the drive to place the files on the phone. I was able to boot into hboot but that is about it.
Hello,
I bought an HTC Rezound from someone on craigslist yesterday and I was dumb enough to trust him and not ask him to power it on. THe screen is messed up, but thats an issue for me to worry about, and also when I power it on it displays the white HTC screen and then goes black. I did some research and I guess it is because the phone is unlocked and confirmed that it is by holding down the volume button and the power button and on the screen that came up it says:
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***
I guess I need to lock it but all of the guides out there I guess require that I know a little about rooting, which I know nothing about. Can someone walk me step by step on how to do this because I have no clue.
Thanks

Unlocking the bootloader is a requirement to root the phone, it in no way would keep it from booting up. It sounds like you don't have a rom installed. Does it say s-on or s-off in the bootloader?
Don't worry about TAMPERED and UNLOCKED. That's normal. Tampered just means there's a custom recovery on the phone rather than the stock one.
Post everything else it says in bootloader in addition to s-off or s-on. Then we'll know what firmware you are on.
Your symptoms sound like it might be that you need to flash a kernel, but we don't know what ROM you are on so your best bet is probably to run an official RUU which will get you to stock everything. Then hopefully you'll be able to boot up and run the phone. Then if you want to put a custom ROM on you can easily do so.
To learn some more about all this read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641670
Here's an overview of the whole process I wrote up for someone. You're already unlocked so you don't need that part. Attached to that post is a folder with what you need to run fastboot commands so you can download that and put it in your root directory for when you need it.

That the global leak 4.03.605.2 710RD (http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/08/15/exclusive-download-full-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/)
You should be able to re-lock and flash the global leak RUU and at least have a device that boots. There are some guides in these forums with instructions on re-locking.
Will that install all of the stock stuff?

I downloaded the zip and renamed it. How do I move it onto the SDcard. When I plug in the phone and try to power it on, the white HTC screen shows up and then goes black but the computer does not recognize anything being plugged in. I head the noise that the computer makes once USB is plugged in, but I do not see anything under my computer that I can go into to add this file.

Can you boot into hboot?
adb push c:/location/to/PH98IMG.zip /sdcard/PH98IMG.zip
Yesterday I reverted my phone back to stock (4.4.2) using the RUU that you execute from the pc. Everything was working fine, except my phone wouldn't detect the new OTA update still. So I decided to use the RUU for the new update (5.0.2) from htc's site. Now when I tried to use that RUU it would start as normal. I would hear the disconnect/reconnect tone on my computer as the phone switched into the black HTC screen and the program would say updating 1/6. However when it would reach the end of the 1st part of the update, I would hear the disconnect/reconnect tone again. The program then says updating 1/7 with the progress bar full and the phone screen just shows the black HTC screen. It never progresses past this.
So me being me decided to keep on trying and I did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/att-4-4-4-firmware-signed-encrypted-t3031703. So that install seem to go fine, except now my phone won't boot past the white "HTC powered by android" screen.
Here's what the hboot screen says:
Software status: Official
RELOCKED
M8_UL_CA PVT SHIP S-On
HBOOT- 3.19.0.0000
Radio- [email protected]
OpenDSP- v38.2.2-00542-M8974.0311

eMMC-boot 2048MB

Also the 4.4.2 RUU won't work anymore because I have the wrong version bootloader now. I'm usually pretty competent at these things (been rooting/ flashing roms on my phones for about 4 years now) but I've messed up here.
So how do I get this working again?
Update: I kept messing around with the RUU. Tried different usb ports. I also tried unplugging it when it got stuck at 1/7 and plugging it back into a different usb port, and that seems to have worked. It's currently updating 3/6 so it's definitely progressing now. So... this thread may be pointless now. Such a weird fix though....
Update2: Well that fixed it somehow and my phone is booting up normally. Sorry for making this thread then.. Mods can delete it.

Better to mark the thread title as SOLVED and leave it up; in case others encounter the same issue and are looking for a solution.
If you thought an issue worthy enough for a thread in the first place; its almost never the right thing to do to have it deleted (even after solved).
Hello all! I know this is an old issue and the phone that I have is as old as life it's self but I hope that I can find some help here! I know there are sever threads covering this issue but I have not found any that covers the ENITRE issue that I am having.
Okay, now for my problem....
Of course my phone died (battery). I put it on the charger and powered it up. The phone stuck on Sprint screen for several days. This is the second time this has happened. The first time I was unable to use recovery but I was able to do a factory reset. THIS TIME I am unable to do anything. On factory reset, the phone goes to green icon and then it turns into the red exclamation. Same thing with recovery. I have tried the wipe/factory reset...I get an error there "E:can't open /cache/recovery/command" and I get that on all options in Sys recovery menu. I have read several threads on using fastboot but I have learned that there is more to it that plugging in the USB and recovering the phone.
To help answer some of the questions here are the details on the HBoot menu:
****Locked****

HBoot - 1.58.0000
Radio - 1.09.00.0108
OpenADSP - v02.6.0226.00.0217
eMMC-boot
The phone has never been rooted and everything is stock.
I have seen that it can be recovered through Hboot menu but I'm not deep into this side of things so I will need detailed instructions if possible. I have an HTC Evo 3d and my PC is Mac OSX.
Same problem
I was about to post about my problem, but yours is very similar and like any good forum go-er I checked to see if there were any recent problems like mine.
I am running
**locked** shooter s-on hboot v 1.58 eMMC -boot from may 17, 2012.
I have never rooted the device or tampered with it in any way. I thought about it, but got a newer phone.
I recently got into computer programming and wanted to see what can be done with this old tech with still relevant hardware.
after starting the device it got into the OS , took me to my homescreen like normal then failed horribly after 10 seconds, once i slid the ring up.
it then got stuck at HTC screen, so i tried the bootloader, which works, so i went for a factory recovery. get the red triangle, so i look into rooting.
turns out that if i hadnt checked usb debugging and unlocked already, i cant get in to do anything. is this a soft-brick hard-brick case?
i feel there is hope, but the lack of response to OP after this time leaves me disappointed. I've spent many hours trying to find a solution to this problem, but it is way beyond me.
i tried finding signed copies of PG86IMG.zip for hboot 1.58 to no avail, only option is RUU which won't find the phone on windows 10. drivers are out of date, perhaps.
Installing linux now to hopefully get access to that file system.
Would really appreciate the help, devs. this is a great device would be a shame that NOT tampering with it would leave me and OP with a brick.
thanks for reading and thanks in advance for consideration and advice.
dunno, maybe try this

virgin evo 3d has no downloadable current ruu to flash, and you guys are s on which won't let you flash older ruu to reset your system. which makes it difficult to fix.
