I have a question about my M9.
I rebuilt my desktop last night and could not find any working wireless dongles in my house. So I was left to download my phone drivers, via my phone, and install them into my desktop so it recognised my phone. After this I enabled USB Tethering to go onto my internet.
The problem I noticed is that the phone was using my mobile data, rather than my Wi-Fi connection, despite being connected to Wi-Fi and enabled.
Is there any way to turn my mobile into a USB wireless dongle and stream it into my Desktop? Seems like smart phones ain't smart enough to just push the best "internet" connection, into my Desktop lmao! I'm a bit of noob when it comes to software coding so I understand it might be a pure limitation on the device which restricts it.

I've been using the latest release of Tesla Coil, which really is a great ROM and I have had no problems up until now.
I have been tethering just fine via USB, using HTC's Internet Connection Mode whilst we change ISPs, but for some reason this morning it refuses to work.
I plug in the USB cable, I get the prompt on the phone and select ICM and then... nothing! The device isn't detected by Windows 7 (it had been coming up as HTC Ethernet Adapter 9k, or something similar.)
I tried enabling it by going into Settings -> Wireless & Networks - Internet Connection Mode, I check the box, get the little Mobile Hotspot prompt and then ICM becomes unchecked again.
I'm pretty new to Android and really, I solved my problem by using Barnacle Wifi Tether, but I really want to learn why this has happened and how to fix it
So I have a Motorola Atrix unlocked running Alien-4 ROM.
What I'm trying to do:
Tether my phone via USB to my Wireless Firewall (A ZyWall USG-20).
My firewall supports multiple WAN interfaces, specifically 2. One of them is on the WAN port where my cable modem feeds my internet connection to the firewall. The other is via a USB interface that supports Cellular internet connectivity.
Further it supports load balancing.
SO my desire is to have my cable modem feed into the WAN interface with the Atrix connected over USB tethering to the USB interface so I can configure load balancing and utilize my phone and cable modem for my internet connection.
My problem is that the ZyWall does not recognize my phone as a cellular USB 3G modem even when I have USB Tethering enabled. According to them my ZyWall will recognize the following dongles...
HuaWei:
E220, E270, E169, E800, E180
Sierra Wireless:
AirCardĀ®USB 598
So now is it possible to make my Atrix look as though it were one of those dongles? Has anyone attempted something like this before?
I'm certain that others have attempted something like this for one reason or another, perhaps not with load balancing but using USB Tethering to connect the phone to their router (even though the phone can be a WiFi hotspot) and was just curious if anyone knows of a way to make the router see the phone over USB. Perhaps an app that will change what the phone 'appears' to be to external devices?
Thanks for any assistance
Alright, did the usual searches and have the usual answers wich don't seem to pertain to what i'm doing.
I have one static connection allowed to wifi router. I wish to use phone to share this connection with more than one device not using mobile data but the broadband connection.
Basically connect phone to broadband wifi. Have devices connect to phone to share wifi.
Again, to prevent any confusion: I do not want to share mobile connection on phone. I wish to share wifi connection with other devices from phone. ie. I have only one connection allowed to router and I wish to use phone to share that connection with PC and PS3.
Sorry for redundancy in stating this but people seem to miss the point or not read and suggest applications like Barnacle wich only share mobile internet or USB tethering wich only works for PC.
Well from what I understand Wi-Fi must be off on phone in order to create the Wi-Fi signal on the phone so this may be impossible
Sent from... somewhere...
I know exactly what you are saying, and I am pretty sure it is impossible. I currently have wi-fi service where I have to log in, with only 1 device allowed log in at a time. When you turn on the wi-fi hotspot on your phone, it automatically turns your wi-fi off. You can only use the hotspot feature using your data connection over 3g or 4g. I have tried everything. If you are in the same situation, where you can only log one device on the internet connection, you may want to try spoofing your IP. Change the IP on the other devices to the IP on your phone. This may allow you to log the other devices in as well (so I have read). That may be your only option.
Yeah looks like Im going to connect PC and use an ethernet cable with connection sharing to get PS3 to work. Phone will have to use mobile data unless PC and PS3 arent being used.
Or phone gets wifi and USB tethered to pc and then connection shared (not sure this will work).
sharing wifi connection
I have done this using a Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP ethernet converter. You connect to the wireless source (WAP) then it acts like a router and allows you to plug devices into it, has four ports but you could use a switch if more are needed. Each device aquires an IP from the converter and is hidden to the WAP, looks like one device is connected. Pretty easy to setup. Check it out.
Scenerio:
I want to wirelessly connect my phone to a laptop directly with ad-hoc, for the purpose of using programs like VNC. I have the option of teathering with mobile hot spot to accomplish this, but im wondering if there is a way that only gives local access to the laptop without internet access from the phone?
My actual idea, however, is to connect my phone to a battery powered Raspberry Pi, and use the phone as a screen and controls. But i figured i would start off with a windows based laptop to see how it works for that before i precede to linux.
I just bought a chromecast and I'm trying to figure out if I can get my GNexus to host the hotspot and be the chromecast remote.
In more detail:
I do not have internet from a cable/satellite company. The only internet connection I have is through my cellphone hotspot.
Chromecast will be connected to the internet through my cellphone hotspot (SSID: AndroidAP).
When my cellphone has the hotspot running it does not show up on its own network (AndroidAP).
I need the phone to show up on the network (AndroidAP) so that I can see the chromcast and use the phone as a remote.
Is this even possible?
Really? No one?
Is it possible?
I'd be very curious to know if this is possible or not. I found this thread because I'm wanting to do the very same thing. I still have unlimited data through vzw so this would be terrific if there was a way. The only thing is that the wifi turns off when the hotspot is turned on (at least on mine) so there would have to be a way to get it to connect to its own hotspot without making mobile data shut off.
Same thing needed Badly here @@
I also want to connect my moto e to it's own hotspot for remote control my tablet using my phone as mouse(specifically) and keyboard/joystick.
(I know keyboard and joystick can be possible without doing that but MOUSE can't)
Hellllllllpppppppp ......
1.5 years later and there's still no way to do this. Not only that this is the only page on the internet about it.
The de thread here
I want to use my phone WiFi network to connect my PC to it and then use the phone to remotly control keyboard and mouse on my PC over WiFi, but I just can not connect my phone to it's own WiFi network. :/
One thing I could do is using a WiFi extender to connect both devices to, but then I couln't get the devices connected to internet since they're connected to a "no-internet" WiFi extender network.
Still nothing? I need it to use my security camera which needs internet connection. I also need to be able to view it on my phone using the camera app but the devices have to be on the same network. Sux that i can't do this.
