I'd say just use the built in one. Bad boy has it enabled by default and there are edits you can do to any rom

Lets say you want to share the internet from your new (rooted) photon to one of those super sweet Xoom tablets or other device that doesn't like to connect to an ad-hoc network (PS3, Touchpad, etc...) Well you can either mod the device so it plays nice with ad-hoc (in the case of the Xoom you can use the link in my signature) or you can mod your phone to put out an infrastructure network signal.
So without any more talk... download the newest Wifi-Tether 3.0
Go into settings and change:
Device profile - Nexus One
Setup Method - Netd (master)
And there you go!
Super simple and easy solution.
Remember the thanks button!
Doesnt work when u activate wifi tethering it somehow activates the stock tethering an then says mobile ip reg error an reboots the phone.....

It gives me a message around the lines of "what the hell!, your phone is taking over the tethering, shutting wifi tethering now!" When I click on the notification in the status bar. It shuts down the tethering

wow! I can't thank you enough! Works amazing!
I will post this on precentral.net and give you your well deserved credit! Thanks mr_wrong_0
Works fine for me...for a bit. It piped up with "wireless tether has been granted super user permissions" after it had been tethered for a good deal if time with but only 16mb of data transfer. Then it locked up my radio and wireless.

There is an EASIER and BETTER way ti get Free WIreless Tether for the Xoon AND HP Touchpad:
Goto Amazon Free Apps and download (for free) Tethering Widget. Install as a Widget and you are off and running with free wireless tether. Did this on my Photon and my wife's Photon with no issues. Works flawlessly. The Works on XOOM and HP TOUCHPAD. Enter a SSID (or keep default)>change to WPA2 PSK>Enter Password> Change to Channel 11. And both devices will will recogize the NEW Free Wireles Tether. Awesome.

I don't have 4G here in my little neck of the woods so I haven't been able to test it. As I understand it you need to start with 3G and then turn on 4G, but I haven't tested it at all (just read about it.)
I hope it works tethering 4G would be very nice.

To get the 3.0 version just download the 4shared app from market and search "wifi-tether". Also after that search just search for "apk " to see more results.

Have you tried using the native portable hotspot function? It's built right into the GS2, and I've used it just fine.
Settings > Wireless and network > Tethering and portable hotspot > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings
If that doesn't work for you, you can always root and install WiFi Tether for Root users: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
yes, but the problem is it only share adhoc and it works only to iphone coz iphone can also read adhoc connection, when u tried to connect to other android it doesnt work

Um, he told you to use the NATIVE function, not a third-party app.
Third-party apps are adhoc, native tethering is a proper access point. I use it all the time with my Tab 10.1

Please clarify what you are trying to do... Cause it is not really clear to me.
Are you saying you are trying to get a DIFFERENT android phone to connect to your phone when it is functioning as a hotspot? Why would you need do that???
What about laptops? Or other wi-fi capable devices, like a tablet? As I said, when I start a hotspot on MY GS2 the same way I described above, I was able to connect my laptop to it and access the internet just fine, even connecting to my work's VPN.
So the question is, what are you doing, and what is going wrong that ISN'T what you are expecting?
There have been reports in other forums of connectivity issues when using the mobile hotspot (verizon provisioned). Some of the reports have indicated that verizon and motorola are aware of the issue related to MTU setting.
Personally, my laptops are able to connect and work properly, but my Kindle Fire is only able to connect with limited success. i.e. downloading books works but most web browsing fails (hangs forever trying to load page). Cloud music also works. But apps don't download.
I've checked the maximum MTU without fragementation and it seems that the verizon mobile hotspot fragments over 1400bytes while my home wifi fragments over 1500bytes.
I created this post because I haven't seen other similar post on xda-developers and wanted others to be aware of this issue that I've heard also affects ipads, ipods, and macbooks.
Kindle connectivity
Hi,
I also had problems staying connected with the Kindle. I was able to solve the problem by making the DHCP IP setting on the Razr start at x.x.x.50 instead of 1 or 2. I've never had a problem since.
I hope this helps
Hi guys, I had the same issues while using Verizons hotspot . I could only connect to some sites like craigslist and google, other sites like Yahoo and cars.Com would not connect. The fix I found was to install wifi tether from the market, open and before connecting open settings (under menu), then checking "routing fix". That took care of all my connection problems. Let me know if that helps. P.S. give me a thanks if it works out.

I did verify it does work on the XT912 and Kindle Fire though.

I am on version (according to Titanium) Barnacle Wifi Tether 0.6.7 (evo) and it works perfectly...

Are you at least able to install it? You get the error when running the app? Or when exactly?

I would recommend taking a look at FoxFi and if your rooted Wireless Tether for Root Users. Keep in mind depending on your carrier handles tethering you may have to change some app settings, for tethering to function properly. Let me know if you still have questions.

Are using the wireless hotspot or USB tethering feature of Foxfi? Make sure that your in a location where your phone is getting a strong data signal as well.
