[Complete Guide] Convert D802T to D802 with TWRP+CloudyG2+Dorimanx_Kernel - G2 General

Long gone are the days when we couldn't make even Autorec to work on our device, i cursed my decision over choosing such a pathetic option [over D802 Int] but now, all regrets are gone..
Not only this guide will let you setup Custom Rom + Recovery, you can get the taste of Dorimanx Kernel as well [Yes, it tastes outrageously epic!]
What you need! [Links at the END or somewhere inbetween]
1. Rooted D802T Device Running Stock 5.0.2 [No, don't proceed if you got something else, just return to the cave whence you came]
2. Autorec Lollipop for D802T
3.CloudyG2 3.3 Rom
4.Dorimanx Kernel
5.Donation to all the Devs who made this possible [If you can afford one ]
What to DO:
So from here, the real game begins.
I TAKE NO CREDIT IN THE DEVELOPING OF ANY APP/ROM SHARED!
NOTE: Please Follow each step carefully, I'm not responsible if you mess up your device, no one is forcing you to do so, proceed at your own risk[ Nah, don't worry, i tried all this personally and nothing went wrong. Just be careful though!]
*****************************************Instructions************************************************
Backup: [Recommended but not Necessary]
Its always good to create a Backup of a very few System partitions and if something goes wrong, you'll thank me later for this!.
**UPDATE** Just came across an app 'Partition Back&Restore'. It Backs up ALL your partitions in no time, just choose the partitions mentioned below and you're good to go!
1. Go to HERE and DO NOT proceed after step 6. [If you already have adb drivers then skip to step 5 in the linked tutorial]
2. Now you have to create a few backups from the same windows.
Type and Hit Enter after each Command [Make sure you followed the FIRST 6 STEPS else nothing will work for you and wait a few seconds for the Terminal feedback BEFORE pushing other Command]
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf of=/sdcard/laf.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img
3. Now download this APP and this will Automatically create a backup of your EFS and IMEI.
4.Now after all this, Copy all the partitions to your Computer and do not delete them from your SD.
5. You can also Download Titanium Backup or any other utility to backup your Apps.
Getting Ready:
1. Copy the CloudyG2 3.3 ROM to your Internal Memory.
2. Now install Autorec and open it.
3. Click on the Lollipop and it'll boot into recovery.
4. Now if everything went fine, you should be in the recovery.
5. Wipe Data and Cache Partition and Create a backup with ALL Partitions checked except Data and Cache.
6. After Backup, Wipe System Partition.
7. Install CloudyG2 ROM
8. Now during installation it'll ask for your device version, hit D802.
9. Let the installer finish and wait for the reboot.
10.Now, the first boot will take a nag longer so wait a bit.
Setup your ROM and make sure everything is running fine. Moreover go to Setting -> About and check if its a D802 NOW!
Setting up DORIMANX:
1. Again boot into Recovery, and make a backup of 'boot' and uncheck all other.
2.Now reboot and change the Setting view as List instead of Tabs
3. Install this APP
4. Tap on the Download Icon
5 .After it downloads the required files again tap on the same icon and it'll start flashing.
6. Everything is Done.
So, NOW you have an International D802, Fully Optimized in every way.
Please Like this Thread and rate it so others stuck on the D802T can optimize their device.

Good luck :good:

Never even knew this was an issue.. I have owned a D802T for about 18 months and always had a custom rom installed.
Just used autorec and flashed a rom...

Might have worked for you but i have seen several people complaining about bootloops or God knows what while messing with their D802T's.
Since the lollipop update i have been waiting for an autorec and finally got my hands on it, after a couple of months
Having a D802T is not an issue. I personally preferred Intl D802, thus made a guide to convert your device. It's a matter of will & choice.

Can I use 4G after conversion?
Your title says D802T to D802, which means back to 3G version. Can I use 4G after this conversion?

Well, LTE is available in Mobile Network option. I haven't tested it cz I'm using Resurrection Remix right now.
Moreover DO make a backup of Modem and EFS with Partition Manager cz i was having difficulty using D802 Modem on our D802T Modem so I Reflashed Modem files via Partition Manager!

Did you treat it?

treat what? The signal loss issue that i fixed by flashing the Modem or the LTE?
Again, i did not check LTE but the option was there.

WIll it work for Indian d802t?
I have an indian d802t model with stock 5.0.2 lollipop. Its rooted but without recovery. The autorec app that you have provided seems to work only for austrailian model. I cannot find one for the indian model. Can I try with the autorec app that you have provided?

Well first u have to confirm if its a Genuine D802t via following the guide i provided (check my threads).
If it's a D802t then surely u can flash the autorec i provided. Just backup the partitions and copy them to your PC, you'll be good to go.

I tried the autorec app and it showed that the recovery is installed. Then I switched off the phone and when I try to start it again it gets stuck at lg logo and nothing happens. Also when I try to open recovery it doesn't work. It just gets stuck at the lg logo. I can access download mode though.

What do mean by it doesn't work? Make sure u r using the right combo.
Switch off phone by holding power button for 15sec.
Then press Volume Down + Power and just whn u see the lg logo, quick press volume up and power button again, you'll be in the Recovery mode.. Just select Factory reset twice and you'll be in TWRP.

after lg logo i should press volume up??? it thought it was volume down + power button....
what i was doing was after the phone switches off, I press vol down + power button till lg logo appears. As soon as it appears, i release them and press the same combination(vol down + power) again. The phone again switches off. When I just try to switch on the phone using only power button, Only the LG logo shows up without any led lights on top. It just stays like that until I switch off the phone again.

No no, read my post again..
Switch iff phone completely, then press volume down + power, when lg logo appears leave these keys and press volume up and power. It might take a couple of tries.. U can also google for other combinations but this one worked on my D802t.

I tried that but didn't work. If I release the vol down + power when lg logo appears and then press vol up + power, after some seconds the phone switches off again. I think the recovery might be corrupted. Now I am downloading the stock kdz and will flash it and retry your guide again. Will let you know if it works.
Update talked to bender007(the guy who created the AutoRec app) and he also suggests that I download the stock kdz and try again. Probably something went wrong while flashing the recovery.

I finally managed to get it working. The trick was that after installing twrp do not turn off the phone. Instead use an app for booting directly into recovery( autorec doesn't boot). From there wipe the dalvik cache and the cache partition and then install the cloudyG2 zip. After installation, the phone would boot into cloudy and you will still have recovery.
I am not sure what is wrong with my phone but the buttons combination(vol up/down + power) to boot into recovery does not seem to work for me. So I use an app to boot into recovery.
Thanks to ghayyurious for this tutorial

Try this
Power + volume down
Until lg logo pops up
Than volume up + volume down
Until factor reset menu pops up
Confirm with power ( 3 Times I think) , noting will je wiped
After that custom recovery pops up

[Q] adding clockwork recovery not working,

First, let me apologize for what I'm sure is repetition, I searched the site and could not find the step by step process that I need. So again sorry.
I have a rooted Vibrant (I think, the superuser permission icon is there, from the market I downloaded "SU update fixer" and "BusyBox"because somewhere online it said I should) I updated to froyo when it originally came out and was told I had to go back to eclair to root which I just did 3 days ago.
My problem is I can't get clockwork recovery on my phone so I can flash a rom. I've downloaded heimdall and went through the steps (when I'm in the command prompt screen I get the error that it is not recognized as an internal or external command. Also "rom manager" Google market link does not recognize my phone, so I can't just download the app directly. It doesn't even come up when I search the market on my phone.
Another question, I thought once I rooted I'd be able to delete some bloatware from the device? How do I do it? Do I need to flash a rom before I can do this?
If it helps here are the current specs of my phone:Model SGH-T959, Firmware 2.1-update1, Baseband T959uvjfd, Kernel 2.2.29,Build Eclair
Please help.

Try this (Use method B) it works like a charm every time.
also note that you dont have to install a custom rom if you prefer not to.
if you just flash the zip and reboot to clockworkmod then your set.
this is from s15274n's guide found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
There are two options here. Choose which is best for you, before you start.
ROOT ONLY METHOD:
A – This is an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs.
INSTALL CLOCKWORK RECOVERY AND FLASH A ROM THAT WILL GIVE ROOT ACCESS (MY PREFERRED METHOD):
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
NOW DOWNLOAD THE ROM YOU PLAN TO FLASH
2.
Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3.
Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4.
In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5.
It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now...

if you backed up with Titanium backup you'll need to restore them with that, but to do so you'll want to have the market to download titanium backup.
So to get the google apps back you'll need to flash the gapps package (Cyanogen mod doesn't include them by default)
here is the full list for all versions of android: http://goo.im/gapps
but I beleive youll want this one for 4.2.2: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
just reboot into recovery and flash it (no need to reflash the ROM but if you ever change roms you would flash the rom first and then the gapps package)
once you boot back into android you'll have the market back.
Thanks Again

Odd, I've really only seen that when you try to install a carrier ota update over a custom ROM
Flash the ROM and then the gapps files again in that order and you should be fine though you'll need to restore your apps with titanium backup again afterward.

For about 6hrs yesterday, I tried using odin to get back to original stock(eclair) it has not worked. I get a pass each time but the phone does not reboot, at first it just relooped the vibrant screen, now vibrant screen flashes then screen goes black. When the phone is plugged in the battery icon just reloops. I noticed that when odin was done the beginning of the recovery screen had a red "data wipe failed" within the normal yellow text then it would turn off and go to the battery screen again. I've used several versions of odin none have worked. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I'm afraid it may be dead forever although I've read many posts that state that android phones are almost impossible to brick. I'm at my wits end.

I had that happen once but it was because of a lagfix.
below is a thread with someone with the same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8734352
Also below is what fixed it (it also worked for me but my issue was for sure a lagfix issue):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8698655&postcount=150
Hopefully this helps.
luckily the Vibrant is famously hard to completely brick.
it usually just takes some trial and error to fix it.
don't give up

Thanks again, I've been at it for a few hours now, it goes into recovery but does not respond to my power button to reboot. Also beginning screen now says 1900. As though it flashed a different version.

the initial odin file you are flashing is a modified 19000 file.
if the 19000 kernel is flashed then the hardware buttons will be mixed up.
dont worry though if you got that far its good dont worry about using the power button to reboot.
just pull the battery.
then you'll need to use Odin again to flash the original android 2.1 files again.
this time it should go through and you'll be back where you started.
from there you'll need to re-root and flash the ROM of your choice.
Still not working

Ok so I pulled the battery, went back into download mode and tried to flash the original android files. When I did that I ended up with the stuck vibrant screen again. or if its plugged in the battery icon just keeps restarting. I've tried several versions of odin, nothing seems to work. I just keep going back and forth flashing the 19000 and trying to flash the original 2.1. I keep ending up at the same place. Every time I go through the odin process I always get a pass, but the original files do not flash. Again I appreciate all your help, I'll keep at it for a day or so but I'm losing the bit of patience I have left.

try following the steps below, I added the links for the files you'll need (hopefully the links are working, I cant test them from work unfortunately)
note that the first odin file is an 19000 file and the volume buttons on the phone will be reversed and menu selection will not work in recovery.
if you need to reboot you can use ADB or just pull the battery.
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file. HERE
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'. HERE
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM!
Still no luck.

Yup, This was the order that I followed to the T. So step #7 was what got 19000 on my phone. It never errored out or rebooted just went to 19000 recovery screen and stays there. I took the battery out, put it back in, went back to download mode, I downloaded and tried to flash the True stock 2.1 and that's what got me to just a Vibrant screen. I'm not sure if my PC(windows XP) is the problem though this is the same PC I used to root and flash cyanogenmod, or if something inside the phone is messed up. I did notice during an earlier recovery the words "wipe data fail" in red among the normal yellow text. This may be the cause of the repeated bad flashes of the stock 2.1. I'll keep trying when I get off today and tomorrow but I may have to bite the bullet and get a new phone on Thurs.

You might have already tried this but you might try leaving it at the vibrant logo for a good 10 minutes.
I find that when I odin back to stock it takes a bit longer than usual to boot.
If it stays stuck you might try pulling the battery and try booting to recovery (if Odin was successful back to stock it should be the stock recovery)
if it lets you into stock recovery we will at least know the odin flash worked.

[Q] Need a custom recovery!

If you have root, download an app called flashify from the play store, and use it to flash this file,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/foh6ps3tt1wb7ga/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-hltespr-4.4.img
You must be on TouchWiz KitKat for this to work.
What you're experiencing is most likely recovery loops. It occurs when going into recovery when mashing all 3 buttons for too long (home + volume up + power).
If flashing from Odin, let go of the power key as soon as it begins to go into recovery. Otherwise it'll keep forcing into a strange horizontal screen line, continuously, or go into system.
Good luck!

Ok so I got flashify and found the flash twrp option and I did it my phone went into bootloops I dont know why but to fix it I just odin flashed cf-auto-root and that got me out of the loop. I also dowmloaded the file from where you said but it comes out as a disk to burn and is not read by odin. hope you understand! Still need some help!!!! Please.
Here is another way to try, first what version of Odin are you using? I use version 1.85 her is the link http://www.downloadodin.info/download-odin-1-85 instead of twrp I use Philz CWM recovery version 6.12.9 the latest for Sprint, here is the link https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/hltespr/ download the .tar file to the desktop of your PC. Do you have Samsung drivers installed on you PC? Here is the link http://androidxda.com/download-samsung-usb-drivers download and install on PC.
Now lets get started, first pull the battery on the phone, reinstall, reboot device in download mode ( press and hold volume down, power button, and home button at the same time till mode starts, then press volume up to continue ) now start Odin on desktop, then click on PDA a box will come up click on desktop, then click on the .tar file, it should come up in the box next to PDA. Now connect the phone to your PC via a USB cable. A box in the upper left hand corner of Odin will light up COM: doesn't matter what color or number just shows a connection is made. Now click start, and wait till its done it will say pass. If the device doesn't reboot, unplug and reboot device. Now power off and boot into your new recovery. ( Press volume up, power button, and home button at the same time till you see some text on the top of the device then let go )

There is no reason to use the auto root package.
Just flash the NC5 tar, then Odin TWRP.
Follow the instructions on my NC5 tar thread.
Latest TWRP tar is here...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/x4mqer180pt4yxt/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-hltespr-4.4.img.tar
After flashing the above, dive straight into recovery using your phone's hardware buttons (volume up + home + power, then let go of only the power button after you start to reboot).
From there, flash one of the pre-rooted roms on the dev forum, or just the latest root zip, here,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vgqvxsn7qal5q6c/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.01.zip
Good luck!

[HOWTO][MT2-L03][Stock ROM with root]Fix soft-bricked phone using TWRP

EDIT on Jan 18,2015
Please see post #9 for a flashable zip of the stock ROM with root that is taken after updated to B148.
Below original post has version B126.
******** ORIGINAL *********
Fix soft-bricked Mate 2 (MT2-L03) phone using TWRP
If you messed up the phone and it came to a state that phone can not boot into android, if you have TWRP installed and have a backup, then you know how to fix that easily.
But if you don't have your own backup, I have upload my system partition so hopefully you can use this to restore your phone. The backup is taken very close to stock, and it is rooted with SuperSU installed.
BTW, there is a "safe mode" boot method, so try that before using twrp recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/asc...ted-amazon-app-store-stuck-boot-loop-t2872628 (post 6 and 7)
Steps to Restore you phone if all other ways failed:1. Your MT2-L03 need have bootloader unlocked, and TWRP recovery installed properly. Even your phone is soft bricked, as long as you can boot into bootloader mode, you can still unlock bootloader and install twrp recovery.Unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-mate2/general/progress-rooting-ham2-t2867975
Install twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/asc.../2014-09-22-teamwin-recovery-project-t28851442. Boot into twrp recovery and select "System" partition only, and backup it to your external storage (yes, I know your system partition is bad, this step is to create proper twrp backup directory)
3. Download following file to your PC, unzip it.http://tinyurl.com/qzxkm4x
FileName: TWRP_BACKUPS_stock-system-with-root.zip4. Turn off phone and take out your SD card out and plug into PC, then navigate to following directory under the SDCARD: \TWRP\BACKUPS\xxxxx, the xxxxx is a string that different in each phone
5. Copy all the files unzipped from step 3 to above location. overwrite any files with same name.
6. Put back the SDcard to the phone, and boot into TWRP recovery.
7. Choose restore, select the only entry that you did the backup, and select "System" only, perform the restore.
8. Wipe your dalvik cache, cache.
9. Then reboot.
10. If you still have problem, boot into recovery again, and wipe /data parition as well (Factory Reset).Download the MT2-L03 backup here:
http://tinyurl.com/qzxkm4x
FileName: TWRP_BACKUPS_stock-system-with-root.zip
And thanks @dbmj unlock bootloader, @Modding.MyMind build twrp recovery, and @D33PTHAWTE confirmation that this fixed his phone.
Glad you got this posted. This will be very vital to many people down the road. And great work on giving instructions to create a backup for the simplicity of automating the needed directories for usage of the actual shared backup. Thumbs up bro.
@D33PTHAWTE, welcome back
For everyone not getting TWRP to work I have done it on 3 HAM2s and all work try this.
1.flash this stock recovery https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-nJFDpWA4MdVjhEYzU3TXlMZ0U&usp=sharing
2.even if you have your own use that because I know that works and I dont know what yours is.
3.boot into the recovery and make sure that its the stock recovery and its working.
4. restart the phone 2 or 3 times to be safe
5. flash using twrp using 15 second ADB installer.
Has anyone followed thoes steps and that recovery above? (not your own) if not try that and let me know. take a screen shot of what ADB is showing you so I can see that TWRP was successfully installed. Starting at square one. Flash twrp and show me its flashed.

Hi, I have seen these issues pretty frequent recently that:
1) /cust partition is not covered in this TWRP backup, so after restore, you may still got facebook app mismatch failure when upgrade.
2) Even after a successful OTA upgrade, many people (include myself) met problem to reflash the TWRP image.
So, give me a few days, I think I can make a flashable zip that has latest (B148) stock ROM with root, probably this weekend.

This is a clean Stock ROM (flashable zip) with Root after upgrade to B148 for MT2L03.
It should only be used for plain carrier unlocked Huawei MT2-L03. Other varies (carrier locked) MT2L03 is un-tested and may brick your phone.
This ROM include /cust, /firmware, /system and /boot partition.
The official B148 update also contains update to SBL1/ABoot/TZ/RPM partition, they are not included due to risk concern.
I didn't fully test this ROM, I just pickup the image from my early backups. I installed it to my already updated phone and boot up fine. So please try it and let me know if you see any problems.
Working great for me! thank you, fixed all my problems.

Another thing you can try is do a factory reset (to be safe backup /data first) and wipe cache, dalvik cache.

It was same for me but if your recovery is the same (TWRP) so you can long press power off and volume up buttons wait for screen to go off and then on , release the keys and push them back again to enter LG's factory reset mode then press yes and yes again it will say factory reset procesing but it will then boot in to recovery . With TWRP you can connect phone to computer , download and put LG'S sock ROM or other like compatible CM12 .then do advanced wipe in wipe selection so it will delete everything even your rom (but not sd) and then flash your ROM cm12 or lg's stock .It worked for me so maby it work for you too
My device is off. I start with?

can i update to latest of magisk ?
thanks for hard work
On booting to recovery using the key combination, my phone got stuck at the TeamWin splash screen and won't go beyond it. Now it just boots to that screen when using the normal key combination as well instead of Android. Anything I did wrong or is there any other issue?
I was using Magisk with stock recovery prior to flashing this. Going to flash the stock ROM again using Odin and try this once again.
Edit: Since all reboot options now lead to the TWRP splash screen, there doesn't seem to be a way to get in to download mode. Most likely seems that I have to let the battery drain out. A word of caution for anyone else trying this out.

have you formatted data? and rebooted directly to bootloader?
when stuck on spash screen means data is encrypted.

I had removed all accounts and formatted data/cache partitions before flashing the TWRP file. However, the first time I missed booting immediately in to recovery and the OS started booting instead. So, I rebooted in to recovery and it is stuck on the TWRP splash screen since then. So, did the half boot in to the OS result in encryption of the data partition once again?
Tried just about everything but still stuck on the splash screen. I don't know when the battery will run out now but do hope that I will be able to get in to download mode once it does so or otherwise I think I got myself a brick.

no needfor battery to drain, just Press volume up + down + power with USB plugged in and when the phone turn off release power and keep pressing up/down buttons. and you'll be directed to download mode

Thanks, that's the combination I was looking out for. I did that combination without the USB connected and used some other combination when the USB was connected. After a fresh ODIN flash, I was able to boot in to TWRP without any issues, so great job with the recovery.
Update 1: After powering off the device, it is now only booting to stock recovery, no sign of TWRP. Selecting the 'Reboot to system' option in stock recovery results in a "cannot load android system" and "data may be corrupt" message. Selecting "factory reset" option in stock recovery booted me to Android.
Update 2: Booted to system after the factory reset and powered off. Now the phone won't go past the Samsung logo with the message "only official binaries are allowed to be flashed"

wipe data again and reboot to bootloader and flash twrp again, once youre in twrp.. mount system... open file manager and go to system/system and rename recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.p.bak.
i forget to mention that.
dont forget to flash the decrypter before booting.

I had to first boot in to the OS and check for updates to register the device with the OEM unlock option enabled once again before the "official binaries only" message disappeared. Thereafter things worked out fine as per your instructions and I have permanent TWRP. Will try out Magisk-patched TWRP later and post the results.
Would you mind attaching the kernel source?
Anyone else tried this TWRP? is this really a permanent TWRP?

TWRP is permanent but it always boots to TWRP irrespective of key combination and from there one has to reboot to System.
Also, I patched the recovery image with Magisk and it doesn't seem to work. When rebooting to recovery from TWRP the first time, it leads to a blank screen and on rebooting it gets stuck at the Samsung boot logo.

I see. But what is TWRP without magisk? Nandroid is ok, but my main purpose of TWRP is magisk.
So my 2nd question is, will this work on any firmware?

Not much use for non-Magisk TWRP I am afraid. So I am going back to Magisk with stock recovery for now since I chiely use Titanium backup.
I am on the ASE2 firmware and since this TWRP boots it up fine, I am assuming it is the same kernel version as used in the stock version since its source code was released recently. Hence, it might not work with other firmware but I am in no position to check that out.

I see. Then I'll be preserving my knox for the mean time until a stable and Magisk-able TWRP is available.
There is magisk with stock recovery? Can you tell me where can I find this thread? Also will this method trip your knox? Thanks.

You can always install Magisk with stock recovery for any firmware using topjohnwu's guide over here. However, Magisk installation will always trip Knox.
Also, TWRP might be helpful in flashing various patches, especially for GSI releases that you cannot do with the stock recovery.

Thank you so much for the link. I'm good without TWRP for now, not a fan of GSI since many things are broken, magisk is what I really needed. Thanks again.
