I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a app to change the button that powers up the phone out of sleep.
Normally you press the power button and then unlock drag with your finger.
I would love to see it changed to the optical button press, as it's the only feature of the iphone i like
maybe you can use Screen Mode Widget ,change it's state to 'Awake Stay',then the device will not screen lock but will dim(press any button will awake the screen).Try it

me too
Slide function doesnt seem to work.
I usually press the optical button or home button the im able to slide the screen to unlock, do not think this is implemented coz then the display will turn on and off if you fx has it a pocket.
If you press any button does the screen come to life? I mean are you able to unlock device? if so then it works

I've also used LockBot Free cuz I don't really like the HTC lock screen. How ever I stop using it because it wakes my phone with any button I press and I tense to hit the volume rocker all the time. but it is a good alternative.
Anybody tried this method from desire topic? (root needed)

Hello together
I have a little problem with my HD2. I have the Goatrip 6 ROM installed with Cookie´s Home Tab 2.0 and S2U2 2.43. The problem is that S2U2 don´t lock the long press end key.
There is a not choosable option in S2U2 2.43. "Don´t lock long press end key"
I need a program who locks the long press end key similar with the lockscreen. Do anybody know a program? Thanks for your help.
I don't think it is possible.
The normal/official rom lock (with the slider or hd mini version) doesn't lock it either.
It's probably something to do with that key being the power key, that it will have priority over everything else to allow you to power off. All keys are able turn the screen on, but long press send key doesn't work while locked, maybe because it's a hack and not standard.

I think u could remove it by closing Endkey.exe.... But u cannot block it just for S2U2...
This isn't a too much of a big deal, but curiosity kills me. Since the SGS 2 looks like it lacks a dedicated search button, I wonder if it has a substitute?
What I appreciated on my Nexus One is the search button which is excellent to Google something on the fly and to activate Voice Search. So I'm just wondering if the SGS 2 will have something to generate a quick search or if the U.S. variants will have search buttons?
like the first galaxy S i9000 , you will be able to long press the menu button to simulate the search button
And for the voice search double pressing the home button will do the trick as seen on the vids floating the web
Search seems like the biggest waste of.a button ever. Never missed it on the i9000 at all.

I never used my search-button as it is now, but if the menu-button long-press is assigned to search, how do you switch on and off the on-screen keyboard?
On other android-devices a long-press of the menu-button will activate/deactivate the on-screen keyboard.

I have a Hero, never ever have I had to long press the menu button to get the keyboard up/down. It comes up when it's needed, it disappears with a press of the "hide keyboard" button or the back button!

The hide keyboard button is only on HTCs Sense keyboard no? It's certainly not there on the stock android keyboard.
I've had instances where the keyboard blocked part of the screen and if I had pressed the back button the program would've closed/gone to a previous screen and I wouldn't have been able to do what I wanted without pulling down the keyboard with a long press of the menu-button.
It might not be a big problem or something that occurs often, but it can be annoying and that's why I ask.

You just hit the "Back" button to hide the keyboard
As he just explained, in certain programs (very few) pressing the "back" button to switch off the on-screen keyboard can quit the progrmam you are actually using. But samsung made a very neat trick for that since the first version of the Galaxy S i9000, just swipe down from the upper part of the keyboard to the bottom and the keyboard will disappear, no need for a specific button. I find it very intuitive personnaly, and in the same situation you can also swipe left or right in the keyboard area to switch from letters to numbers view back and forth.
That is an excellent feature. Do any other phones do this?
I don t know any other phone that do so natively, but there is some third party keyboards that copied that (just like CyanogenMod and everyone else copied the wifi, bluetooth etc toggles in the notification bar) "smart keyboard" or "better keyboard" I think.
Meh, I love the design but I love my search button; using Vlingo, I can hold the button and tell my phone to do whatever I want, much better than tgr default Google voice command app.

That's no big deal, you can easily fix it with a third party app.
And btw it's a matter of time for Android 2.4 Ice cream to come.. and there are rumors that it won't need buttons at all...

Doubtful... Why would I want screen real estate taken up with buttons? It works on a tablet, It would be nonsensical on a phone.
samsung hasn't actually officially confirmed if there will be a 2.4 update...

They haven't confirmed that the SGS will get Gingerbread either yet I'm running XXJVK which is Android 2.3.3.
First specs Neo's AOKP, swype or stock keyboard no "enter" key only smileys when in sms (stock/handcent) app
Ok I'm pretty sure I'm just not finding it. There has to be a setting to enable/disable the stupid smiley key and get the enter/return key back.
Anyone out there know exactly where this option is located?
Probably not.
Different apps can tell the keyboard to show or hide certain keys.
I'm gonna pull the stock keyboard and post here..aokp/cm are to small
Hey there
this is not my phone, its my friends phone
So phone's back button and recent apps aren't working.
He said he didn't do anything nor did the phone fall.
Phone is not rooted.
Any idea on how to fix it ?
Or any alternative softwares for recent apps and back button ?
@MJ999:
Back-function by tap on right capacitive button?
Recents by long tap on hardware-home-button?
So simple home and left menu-button work?

To ask again: One swift tap on the hardware home button (= home) works fine?
I'm not aware of any app to replace these functions that work without root. With root you could use e.g. LMT Launcher and use it to simulate the button pushes.

Hardware home button works fine
It's the capacitive touch that isn't working, it doesn't illuminate.
He is saying he got an app from Play store, but only limited to back button.
On the keypad type *#0*# to open the factory test menu and press "subkey". The screen will go black. Now press the menu and back capacitive buttons. If the screen changes colour you have an os issue. If the screen stays black you have a hardware fault.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
