Home button dead - how to boot into download mode?

My Home button is no longer working - is there any way of booting into Download mode without it??
If you have root,
1) download Terminal Emulator
2) enter "su"
3) enter "reboot bootloader"
or...
from adb: "reboot bootloader" (don't really know if it does work on adb... from Terminal Emulator)
and don't ask anymore questions in this section please, it's against the rules
Easiest way will be through and, just adb reboot bootloader.
Or you can use an extended power menu if you are on a custom rom you might need to check developer options if your on aosp.

[Q] 5.1.1 Sideload issue on Mac

I'm having trouble sideloading the new 5.1.1 OTA update through ADB. I'm completely stock on my N9 and when I use adb while the device is booted everything works fine (adb devices lists my N9 and I can issue commands to it). When I boot into recovery however adb can no longer find my device and thus can't sideload the update.
Searching around I can find a lot of threads about Windows users having driver issues but I didn't think these applied to Macs. Am I missing something? Is anyone else having trouble using a Mac to sideload the OTA update?
Thanks in advance for anyone's help!
Enable USB debugging
Shut down tablet
Press and hold power and volume up together. You will reach a menu.
Select HBOOT
Select recovery
You will see the android with exclamation mark and "no command".
Press power + volume up
You will enter recovery menu
Select adb sideload
Push update
Worked fine on my Mac!!
Is that what you are doing?!
@crispydc,
I don't know anything about Mac's but when you are in stock recovery, and are at the menu for adb sideload you can try unplugging and replugging your USB cable.
^^^ this happened to me on my work computer (windows) just do that step after you select adb sideload.
Ah! Stupid on my end. I was trying to sideload from the screen with the Android logo - I forgot to actually enter the recovery menu and select the 'Install update from ADB' option. Sorry for the noob post and thanks for your help!
What are the steps in side loading ? Obviously download file and boot into recovery and adb but what process do i need to take when using the computer ( windows 8 )

[Question] ZTE Majesty Pro

Hello,
I have a Straight Talk ZTE Majesty Pro LTE [Z799VL]. It runs Android 6.0.1. This phone occasionally installs apps and has an annoying app called AppFinder. I have tried to root this phone with KingoRoot and KingRoot. So, I need help figuring out if this thing is even rootable. I would get a more accessible phone, but I'm short on money. I know this is short on information, but I'd be willing to help in any way I can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Boop.
I'm fairly certain this phone was released recently. Maybe it's just too soon.
I have this same phone and am having the same problem finding info on how to root it. Keeping a hopeful eye on this thread

There is a thread called Universal Method with a file and instructions but my Android device is the only PC I own so I haven't given it a try. The post has a Windows and a Linux method.

Have you unlocked the bootloader?
I recently upgraded to an Android 7.1.1 ZTE Majesty™ Pro Plus LTE (Z899VL) from TracFone,, and was rather dismayed to find out that it has an unremovable Facebook app (among other rubbish that I don't want/don't use).
I've never rooted a device before, and I know that this thread's a little old, but would anyone be willing to post a very-newbie-friendly step-by-step tutorial/walkthrough for rooting this phone (assuming it's possible)?
I have Developer Options enabled, and I can easily unlock the bootloader if that's required. I just want to get rid of these useless (for me) System Apps.
Oh, also: I don't have Linux, so… if it's possible, perhaps the rooting method could work using a Windows 7 PC?
need fastboot to unlock the bootloader. to the best of my knowledge, which aint much. but i can not find access to any kind of dl mode let alone fastboot.

Well, I finally managed to get my 899VL (it's not a 799VL as I'd thought — sorry) to show up as an ADB device; it accepts commands from the ADB program… except that when I execute "adb reboot bootloader", it just reboots my phone.
The ZTE logo shows, then the TracFone logo, and then Android boots as normal. It's as though I simply used the "Restart" option on my phone itself.
Due to this, I can't use "fastboot" commands, because it doesn't seem to enter Fastboot at all.
I do have both the OEM unlocking and USB debugging options turned ON. My only guess as to what's going wrong is that it's TracFone's fault. (Alas, I have no proof…)
Is there anything else that I can do to try and unlock the bootloader? Or is this phone a lost cause?

Well, I don't know about any other method to unlock boot loader.
BTW, in case of some phones, turning on the "OEM Unlock" button in Developer Options unlocks the bootloader automatically, so maybe, just check whether your bootloader is locked or not.
Both Didn't work

Your computer is unable to detect the phone in fastboot mode. Uninstall and reinstall the fastboot drivers, the proper ones. If successfully detected it should not be rebooting.
Cheers

That ten seconds when phone is turned on in fastboot and connected to computer quickly type this command in command prompt without the quotes
" fastboot devices "If a device with device number shows up fastboot drivers are installed correctly or else if nothing shows up fastboot drivers are not installed properly..so check them.

Im having this issue now on my redmi note 4x.
Do you have a solution? Thanks
Man, you need adb bootloader interface installed properly.
Open device manager, and you'll see something popping out when you connect your device to pc on fastboot mode, there you can see what's wrong. So all you need is update that wrong driver (the one that popped out once you connect your device in fastboot mode) and install redmi note 4x driver, just ignore your disappearing fastboot mode in your device, keep install it. You should have your redmi note 4x driver prepared btw, you can google it.
Good luck!
use USB2 port, do not use USB3

That is because your computer does not make any connection with your phone. Are you sure that you have all drivers installed. You can install fastboot drivers with mi flash tool but before that write this command in an admin cmd - bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING OFF and reboot. Now you can now install the fastboot driver from mi flash tool and try your luck

So drivers are needed for fastboot flashing a xiaomi phone?
Why I didn't need drivers to use fastboot with other phone manufacturers?
In these phones (oppo, op) the phone stays in fastboot mode until you exit or shut it down.
I think xiaomi did a bad move with this.
───────
EDIT: It works in debian without any additional drivers.
Fastboot recognizes the xiaomi phone with "fastboot devices" command.
So it was as you said.
