Hi all,
I'm a bit of a n00b at this, so please forgive me.
I started with Android 4.1.2, Kernel 3.4.0-g298631f-02047-gec59411, build 10.1.C.0.370.
I rooted it using Doomlord's easy-root and then when attempting to flash custom recovery, I accidentally flashed some other .img and the tablet wouldn't even turn on. I cried. Like, a few good tears.
Went online, found out I wasn't screwed, and figured out how to flash SGP312_10.4.B.0.577_VMo DE_1273-3719_WIFI312G.
But, as I said, I lost root, and am confused about how to downgrade back to 4.1.2 properly without bricking.
Here is my current info:
Version 4.3, Kernel 3.4.0-g1b44cd5, build 10.4.b.0.577
In this thread, under "Downgrade your rom" and "back to 4.1.2 and rooting" it says "if you're in 4.3, Flash this SGP 351 4.1.2 FTF using Flash Tool and it will be booted in 4.1.2. if you have different Variant downgrade to your Variant FTF file"
What is a variant FTF file? Can I just use any SGP 312 4.1.2 FTF? Does anyone know a safe one to use?
Thanks!
Just wipe EVERYTHING on flashtools. Make sure that you have al wipe checked, and press start flashing.
But be careful, sometimes, bootloader is messed up with updates, not sure if it is your case because i don't have a SGP312. Instead i have the LTE variant, wich turned itself into an stubborn piece of technology LOL

Just not sure what you mean by "wipe everything". What am I flashing it with? Which firmware? And what's "al wipe"?
I tried posting a screenshot of the flash tools but as a new user I can't do it. Sorry for being a n00b.

I believe by "wipe everything" and "al wipe", they mean select to wipe APPSLOG, CACHE, and DATA during the flashing process. The flash tool you need can be downloaded from HERE. You can download a US version of the firmware from my post HERE.

THANK YOU, SIR.
I really appreciate it!
Back onto 4.1 and just rooted again. Now I just need to manage not screwing up installing CWM like I did last time!
Grrr...so I'm having trouble again.
When I try flashing CWM it keeps soft-bricking or whatever my tablet. It won't boot and I need to put it into fastboot mode and reflash the firmware.
I'm using the command fastboot flash boot TabZ_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-253-v01.img
Is there a better or another way to get CWM installed?

TabZ_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-253-v01.img is for the SGP321 running firmware 10.1.1.A.1.253.
You have a SGP312.
TabZ_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-344-v01.img is for the SGP312 running firmware 10.1.C.0.344.
You are running firmware 10.1.C.0.370.
You would probably have better luck trying to install Nut's XZDualRecovery.

Jeez, dude, you're totally rocking my world. Thanks a ton for all your help.
I've successfully installed the XZ DualRecovery.
But now something weird is happening: when I try installing various roms (cm-10.2.0-pollux_windy or cm-11-20140418-nightly-pollux_windy) I get the error that it's for the wrong device. It tells me that I have a Pollux, but according to google, Pollux is the LTE version - I most definitely have the SG312 32GB WiFi version).
Did I go wrong somewhere here?

I do not install custom ROMs. No ROM has ever impressed me enough to cause me to want to install it. However, I have read posts regarding your problem in the Xperia Tablet Z Original Android Development forum. Look there and perhaps you will find the answer you need.

Hmm, I see. I was excited to install Cyanogenmod because I have it on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and enjoy the customization and ability to remove all the bloatware.
According to your signature, I see that you're on 4.2... A few questions:
Did you do this through an official update?
Can I somehow flash 4.2 through recovery mode (so if I decide I don't like it, I can just load a system backup and go back to 4.1.2)?
If I were to update through the automatic system update, I'm assuming I'll lose my root access and won't be able to get back into recovery mode (in case I figure out a way to install a custom rom in the future)?
Is there a way to remove all the sony bloatware without root access (if I were to install an official system update)?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to get this all figured out before I start downloading all my apps and getting comfortable with the interface.
Thanks again so very much.

When I first received my XTZ, it was running 4.1.2. I gained root access using DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit. I also installed SuperSU Pro and enabled its Survival mode and Install SuperSU into /system settings. Doing that allowed me to update firmware builds via OTA twice without losing root access. I have chosen not to update to 4.3 for various reasons; however, I did attempt updating to 4.3 via OTA like I have in the past, but the update failed to install. And from what I have seen of 4.4.2 on my son's Nexus 7, I may chose not to update to 4.4.2 also. My 4.2.2 install is working flawlessly and my XTZ does everything I need it to do, so I see no reason for updating yet. I live by the aphorism "If it's not broken, don't fix it."
If you install 4.2.2 (via flashing, you can no longer do it via OTA), you can use Vroot - English version to gain root access. Be aware that in the past, Vroot had a bad reputation regarding its loading unwanted apps during the root process, but I believe xda-developers and Mgyun-team (Vroot developers) had a talk and Mgyun-team has since changed their ways. In my opinion, Vroot is now safe to use. Many people have posted saying they have used it and have not experienced any problems.
I do not know of any way to remove bloatware without having root access.

Damn, maybe I was a bit too hasty in rooting my tablet; why is it that I can no longer to OTA updates? If I were to buy SuperSU PRO (for survival mode) is there any benefit to me? I see that it allows for OTA updates.
I am currently rooted via Superuser (by clockworkmod).
When you say I'll need to install 4.2.2 by flashing, you mean through Flashtool, right? Which build should I get (and where, one of the development forums)?
Is the reason why one is advised to install custom roms via recovery mode in order to maintain root access (which I'm assuming doesn't happen if you flash through Flashtool)?
Something I forgot to mention earlier is that I did unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure if that helps or hinders me at this point.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer all my questions. I really love this new toy, and I'm so terrified of bricking it.

If I were to say flash this version: http://android.sc/official-android-4-2-2-on-xperia-tablet-z/ I should still be able to install Vroot, right?
Also, do you just manually remove the bloatware yourself, or is there a particular script/app that goes in and cleans up all the unnecessary stuff?

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean 10.3.1.A.0.244 is for the SGP321. You have a SGP312, so you need firmware 10.3.1.C.0.136 (same as mine), which you should be able to download from HERE (upload credit goes to user named spectre51). Flash it then gain root access using Vroot.
Regarding SuperSU Pro versus Superuser, I use Chainfire's SuperSU Pro because it has superior functionality and more options compared to ChainsDD's Superuser. And I use SuperSU Pro because it is more likely to retain root access rights after an OTA update than the free version of SuperSU; e.g., SuperSU Pro provides OTA survival mode, the free version does not.
Regarding uninstalling bloatware, that is something you need to be careful with. Some apps you want to keep have dependencies on apps you consider bloatware and want to uninstall, especially when it concerns system apps. So, investigate the app before you uninstall it. Most times, I use Titanium Backup Pro or ROM Toolbox Pro to uninstall apps that cannot be uninstalled via the Apps list found in the tablet's Settings. At other times, I have had to use a file explorer and text editor to uninstall an app.

Thank you again my friend.
Is there a list of apps that are safe to uninstall, or, rather, a list of apps that I shouldn't tinker with (for fear of uninstalling an app that has a dependency on something critical)?
Also, I'm on the Google Play store and I see both Titanium Backup Pro and Rom Toolbox Pro. Should I buy both? If you had to buy just one, which would it be?
My main goal is to just make the smoothest experience possible. I want to take maximum advantage of the hardware in the tablet and have as few unnecessary programs running as possible.
[Solved] Manual install CM11 & Original Thread: How to install CM 11.1 on Fire HDX 7?
Hello,
as I just managed to install CM 11 on my Fire HDX 7 (3rd Gen) (thanks a lot to @Cl4ncy, @Davey126 and @EncryptedCurse) I want to share the information I got during the process.
Note: This manual might be outdated if you read it. So check if there is a newer manual You could break your device if you dont do everything correctly. I am not responsible for breaking your device! If you have a question just ask! It could be that i forgot something.
When I started my Fire HDX 7" had Fire OS 4.5.5.
Note: CM 12 is not available yet for Safestrap v4. If you want CM 12 you need an unlocked bootloader. You can't do it if your version is above Fire OS 3.2.3.2. And you are not able to downgrade below 3.2.8 due to rollback protection by Amazon.
Some preperations:
- connect your Fire HDX to your PC (if your PC doesnt recognize your Fire HDX then install the USB drivers. If that doesn't work deinstall the actual Fire HDX driver and try it again.)
- copy every folder from the Fire HDX storage to your PC (backup music, ....)
- install (Holo Backup and click on every Backup Button (in my version there were 5 buttons))
- install minimal adb + fastboot
Download these files and save them on your PC:
- ES Explorer
- KingRoot
- Safestrap v4
- a Safestrap v4 compatible ROM (CM11 or Nexus v4)
- SuperSU if you want root - Download the .zip file from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip //Check if there is a newer Version
- GApps if you want the Google Apps (the right things should be already selected. If not select: ARM, 4.4, nano) -> the name should be sth like: "arm 4.4 nano 30 September 2015"
Thanks to @Davey126 and @Cl4ncy:
- Turn Wifi Off and flightmode on (you might need to enable Wifi, when you root your device with KingRoot)
- rollback to FireOS 3.2.8
// you do that by copying the file into the 'Internal storage folder' of your Fire HDX (not in a subfolder, just copy it where the DCIM, Document, Download, kindle, ... folder are.). Now wait a few minutes and go to Settings -> Device -> System Updates -> Tap Update
- upgrade to FireOS 4.5.2
// do it as before
- install ES Explorer and KingRoot with minimal ADB + Fastboot
- make sure that only the Fire HDX 7" is connected
- run this Code to see the connected devices
Code:
adb devices
- install the ES Explorer and KingRoot by using minimal ADB + Fastboot
- replace "C:\users\p-4\es.apk" with your own path and do the same for KingRoot
Code:
adb install C:\users\p-4\es.apk
- root with KingRoot or another method (i didn't find another one) //if it doesn't work directly just try it again (I tried it 10 times). If it still doesn't work just try another Wlan (that nothing gets blocked) or wait a week.
- block OTA (over-the-air updates) - only step#1 //you don't have to install the GApps because you will flash them with the ROM
- install Safestrap v4
- Copy the installation files (ROM, SuperSU, Gapps) to your Fire HDX into the /sdcard folder. (There the files won't get deleted if you wipe). If there folder isn't available then create one. But normally there should be one. Make sure you have your Fire HDX rooted. Only then you can see the folder with ES Explorer. In my case the "/sdcard" folder was the normal one, where i stored my Music, Documents, ... so had didn't have to do sth.
- Reboot
- Make a backup of the 'Stock-Slot'
- Copy the backup to your PC
- flash a Safestrap v4 compatible ROM to the ROM-Slot-1 , 2, 3 or 4 (currently CM11 or Nexus v4)
Safestrap v4 Tutorials:
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6fPF5UZsWw) General Safestrap usage
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR0WXCITq2Q) Specifically how to install a custom ROM
Notes: If you use a secondary slot the biggest possible Data Size is 16GB and your battery won't last long. You have to charge the Fire HDX very often.. If you use the Stock Rom Slot you will have the whole storage of your device.
Congratulations you successfully installed CM11 if you did everything right.
But as I mentioned before the performance is not very good, because the ROM is installed on a secondary slot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To get the best performance and a very good battery life you have to install the ROM on the 'stock-slot'.
Thanks to @Cl4ncy and @Davey126 :
For that just:
- Reboot and go to the Safestrap Menu
- check if the installation files (ROM, Gapps, SuperSU) are in the "/sdcard" folder press "..." in the installtion menu to go up the path. There should be the "/sdcard" folder.
- Delete the secondary ROM-Slots
- Go into the Wipe Menu and Swipe to perform a factory reset (only a simple one - no advanced wipe)
- Go to install and add the ROM File
- add Gapps
- add SuperSU if you want root
- perform the flash
- if it was successfull Reboot otherwise DON'T Reboot. Just wipe again and flash the files again.
Note: If something went wrong with the stock-ROM don't reboot directly. Just install a ROM on a secondary slot and reboot then.

Hello,
since it is possible to download prime videos on any android device i would like to install Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my fire hdx 7.
I found this Cm 12.1 Port.
Is there a step by step manual how to install such a rom, because i never did that before and i have heard that if you do something wrong your device is broken.
Because I neither know how to get an unlock bootloader or what a TWRP is. Furthermore i also dont know how to flash the ROM.
In some forum posts i read, that it is possible to go from Cyanogenmod back to FireOS (unbrick). For now i dont want to go back from Cyanogenmod to FireOS, but i think it would be good to have such a possibility.
Do I have to take precautions for that?
And how do I make backups?
Info:
Kindle Fire HDX 7" (3. Generation): Fire OS 4.5.5
Thanks a lot

You can NOT use CM12 - all current builds require an unlocked bootloader. You can NOT unlock the bootloader of Fire OS versions above 3.2.3.2, thus you can NOT use CM12. You can also NOT use TWRP recovery.
Reason: Rollback protection by Amazon, preventing downgrading to Fire OS versions below 3.2.8
Good you asked first.
Your options would be to downgrade to 3.2.8, then update to 4.5.2, install Safestrap v4 and use either Nexus v4 for Safestrap v4 or CM11 for Safestrap v4.
@Davey126 gave a good overview here, so read all the info and ask before you brick your HDX! If you don't follow the procedure 100% correctly, you will brick your HDX! @tropicallazerbeams also linked to YouTube videos about Safestrap usage and installation of custom ROMs. Regarding the ROMs, read the installation requirements carefully!

You can NOT use TWRP (see above), TWRP is available for Fire OS below 3.2.4 only. You must use Safestrap v4 (i.e. NOT Safestrap v3.72/3.75!).
I can't give you any recommendation, but you can try Nexus and CM11 after you installed Safestrap v4. You can even (depending on the size of your sdcard/storage) set up secondary slots and use dual boot with Safestrap installed.
But you should focus on downgrading to 3.2.8, then updating to 4.5.2, rooting, disabling OTA, and installing Safestrap first - that will be difficult and risky enough for the time being.
And note that CM12 is not an option for you. This could change in the future, but I wouldn't count on it.
And one other thing:
If you've Safestrap installed, NEVER use the factory reset in Amazon's stock recovery! You will most likely brick your HDX.

Nexus is basically an AOSP-based ROM (i.e. stock, just like Google intended).
CM11 should be self-explanatory.
I was able to successfully downgrade to 13.3.2.8.
Can I now downgrade to 3.2.3.2 (from here) to be able to get an unlocked bootloader?
Because CM 12.1 would be really nice
But for CM11 I also need an unlocked bootloader, dont I? (click).
Or is it possible, after I installed CM 11, to upgrade to CM12? (Has Cyanogenmod an Over the Air update possibility?)

No, you can NOT downgrade below 3.2.8 due to rollback protection by Amazon (sorry I forgot to mention the reason, added it to my first reply above). Attempting to downgrade further will brick the HDX!
You can use the CM11 you linked to with either Safestrap v4 or an unlocked bootloader. You can NOT unlock (see above), thus you have to use it with Safestrap v4.
In order to install Safestrap v4 you must update to 4.5.2. Keep WLAN off/flight mode active! Kingroot probably requires a short moment of WLAN connection, be sure to enable flight mode right away, you don't want to get updated by Amazon to 4.5.5! After rooting disable OTA, then install Safestrap and make a backup of your Fire OS before you flash any custom ROM!

Can I somehow install kingroot or es explorer without WLAN?
I got the apk on the device but I cant install it without es explorer, which I would download via the amazon app store. Can i enable Wifi for that time?

Enable USB debugging, install Minimal ADB and fastboot, put the kingroot.apk into the adb directory, open a DOS box, change dir (cd) to your adb directory (e.g. enter cd\adb), then enter "adb install kingroot.apk" (without the quotes). This will install Kingroot on your HDX. Then do the same with ES Explorer.
The HDX must be connected to your PC by USB of course (should be obvious).
Thanks for that tip. Now i got these apps on my Fire HDX.
But Kingroot had some problems with the internet connection and now the Update Fire OS 4.5.4 is downloaded and could be installed. (Which i wont do).
Can I go ahead (with a better internet connection) to root the Fire HDX (it is not rooted yet). Or to I have to roll back to 3.2.8 and then update to 4.5.2 again?

As long as you're still on 4.5.2 you can try to root, just ensure 4.5.4 won't be installed. After successful root you can disable OTA, and delete the update file. Also ensure you have the latest Kingroot version - 4.50.902 I believe.
Now I tried to root the device with kingroot and a working internet connection but it failed :/
Is there an alternative method to root a kindle fire hdx.
I just tried the app rootGenius but i didnt understand what the app wants from me (the language is chinese or japanese).
Now i tried to root the Fire HDX 7 with 2 different apps. Do I have to reset the device? Or is uninstalling enough?

I'm not sure why it failed. Kingroot should work with 4.5.2 - you sure the 4.5.4 update didn't start?
Probably wasn't a good idea to try another root app. I'm afraid you can not unroot in Kingroot, because the root attempt was unsuccessful?
Don't try a factory reset by using Amazon's stock recovery yet. May be just try Kingroot again? I think there was another report where it required a second attempt.

At first I tried the kingroot 3 times and it always failed. Then i tried the other method which failed at 93%. Then I tried kingroot again, and it failed.
Is there another possibility to root it?

I'm afraid no.
Kingroot fails always between 53% and 55%. Once I got over 60%.
Should I upgrade to 4.5.5. And downgrade to 4.5.2 again? And try the kingroot again?
Could i try this one: http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-root-kindle-fire-hdx/30513/ ?
Or will I break my device then?

That's an old root method not available for 4.5.x!
I'm not sure whether it's ok to update after a failed root attempt - again: you don't get any option to un-root in Kingroot?
You actually don't need to update 4.5.5 though, the 4.5.4 update would be enough, because you can downgrade to 3.2.8 from 4.5.4, too.
Keep flight mode active if you try it, so you won't get updated again. And keep the connection you must have during Kingroot as short as possible, so it won't download the entire 4.5.4 update again.

Once I got the option to unroot but there i pressed FIX. At the moment I have WLAN the whole time active. 4.5.4 is already downloaded but not installed yet. I think i will upgrade to 4.5.4 now to downgrade and then do the whole stuff again.

Ok, enable flightmode to avoid getting updated further to 4.5.5 then.
And good luck, I'm really not sure about this.
Does someone know if this root app works normally? (click)
After a few tries I can now locate to /system/priv-app/DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk but I am not able to rename this apk.
Can I also try these ways to root the Fire HDX 7" or will i brick my device then? (click)
//edit I just enabled wrong locations and it worked with kingroot
// edit now i got cm11 installed Can I also try other roms like CM12 and insert them in the Rom-slot 2? If it fails, my device isn't bricked, because i only have to restart and load rom-stock or rom slot 1, right?
The only big problem I noticed so far is the battery. After 8 hours in sleeping mode (only screen off) the battery status sank from 90% to 55%. How can I fix this problem?
Latest, fastest root on the z3V (phone) running unrooted 5.0.2 is to use Kingroot, flash xz dual recovery, and download and install a fresh prerooted 5.0.2 ROM that would then get rid of all traces of Kingroot. The ROM I used was compiled by GigaSPX and contained a flashlight mod and nut's dual recovery.
Prior to that method, you had to flash the stock 5.0.2 back to 4.4.4 in order to gain root. Then you could flash Gigaspx's ROM to have all of it.
Problem for me was (is) I have crap for an Internet connection, and would like to know the fastest easiest way to date how to gain root on my z2 Verizon tablet. The less files I need to download the better.
Thank you.
This is a verizon device.....i dont think that a quick way exists......

hello,
I try to root my tablet with a downgrad by flashtool with the newest Version, but there is no way. After the reboot I have always the same actual version 5.1.1
There is a error during the flash process:
14/059/2016 09:59:42 - ERROR -
14/059/2016 09:59:42 - ERROR - Error dumping TA. Aborted
Is this the problem?
Thanks

Are you saying your downgrade is not working? I'm not getting any luck from the forums myself and I see some folks posting in other threads with weeks pass since last post.
I botched a previous install with an incorrect WiFi firmware, so I ended up flashing a 5.1.1 worldwide-wifi TW for my sgp512 just to get it up and running and it's running great.
Now I'm researching how to root and it does appear you will have to be at least 5.0.2 (it may be that a 4.4.2 is preferred) in order for the root tools to work. Once rooted, you could then install a recovery (or dual recovery??) and then flash ROMs or flashable firmwares.
But I believe having 5.1.1 is not helpful for rooting the Z2 tablet at this time. Still researching and will post if I learn something different.
If you want to root without unlocking the bootloader, you have to be on Android 4.4. So if you are on LP, you have to downgrade to KK.
After installing the dual recovery, you can then upgrade to Lollipop.
Or do it the hard way and unlock your bootloader, Sony provides the description and tools needed on their page. Then you are free to do what you want (e.g. rooting by simply flashing SuperSU via a recovery). But note that you lose the DRM keys and the automatic Sony updates.
Hope this helps. Further information can be obtained by searching the forums
thanks a lot.
the problem is still present.
I try to flash a old KK-Firmware, but there is the error message anyway.
I try to unlock my bootloader with the sony-tool (with a special number), but I got no answer from Sony.
KingRoot 4.6 has been released, she can root 5.1 well and some 6.0 devices
I found this one on other thread about king root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=17287
For some try and fail in using http://mobilego.wondershare.com/
finally
I use kingroot.apk install in my Tablet Z2 SGP512 and root successed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=17287
It worked perfect. On my SGP521
This worked for me on SGP561 on 5.1.1
I was able to accomplish a Full Root on the latest OTA update on the phone.
Previously I was running Stock 4.4.4 KitKat with SuperSu and had issues with the OTA, since I had removed Apps.
I installed the Stock 4.4.4 ftf to the phone using the flashtool.
Then was successful in receiving the Prompt to update.
After Update, I installed. "Kingroot" for android. just google it. NOT KINGOROOT or any other.
After running kingroot, King User was installed.
In my experience, no other root method will achieve full root. I was not happy with using Kinguser, since i was a Supersu fan. But anytime I successfully removed kinguser, to swap for Supersu, I had lost partial root access, and could not uninstall apps. I could only Freeze.
I also tried Superuser, but only kinguser allowed me to fully uninstall bloatware, and other apps from the phone.
Just thought I would share.
Thanks, Iambedook. Every experience helps. Kingoroot got me into trouble once before in the past.
Can you flash back to 4.4 from 5.1.1?

I'd love to try this, but I'm kinda unwilling/aprehensious to take the chance with rooting apps. Can you confirm that you can use flashtool to revert back to 4.4? I just know Verizon would block such a thing in an update, they can be jerks. (like the moto razr maxx hd) Any insight is appreciated.

Yes, you can revert back to 4.4.4 through Flashtool. Doing so though, you will not have Advanced Calling or the refreshing Lollipop UI. Also, unless you do something about it, you will be promptly reminded all the time to update to 5.1.1.

Giga,
If I use this method to root 5.1.1., can I install dual recovery and Camera 2 and the FM tuner app? I'd also like the updated flashlight you put together but don't see that as a separate install. Should I wait or go ahead with this method for root?
Thanks, Pat

You may root, but I would advise against anything else. the Z5 Camera is most likely not compatible for our phones on 5.1.1, and neither is the FM Tuner. It's a whole lot I can't touch base on yet.

I was able to flash back to 4.4.4 after i messed things up, but after going back to 4.4.4 i am struggling to get back to 5.1.1. The updates are not appearing, stating I am at the latest version.
I would also like a confirm if this. Because I'm sitting around and waiting for a rooted 5.1.1 copy for the phone. Im on 5.0.2 right now and all is working good but still waiting. Thanks all.
I'm going to see if I can root after upgrading to 5.1.1, but I have the stock firmware just incase.

Just an FYI, after I needed to revert to 4.4.4. I was struggling to receive updates to get back to 5.1.1. I had to use the Flashtool, 3-5 times to get the correct update prompts to appear. If anyone else had similar issues when reverting back, let me know, but re flashing repeatedly worked for me.

Just scroll down to the z3v dev section.
I was actually able to flash the stock ftf coming 5.0.2. I had to flash it with default options the first time with it failing. I then found that I have to basically flash noting to clear the error on the phone by checking everything in exclude and the other exclude box where it shows its not displaying any files in the middle of the window.
Once that went through, I was able to upgrade from stock to .44 and then the the two updates for 5.1.1. After all that I reset to factory again to test on rooting the phone. I was too, able to obtain root with King Root. I was able to install zxrecovery and xposed with no problems. I'm actually used to King Root as I had to use it on the Verizon branded 7" tablet that didn't have any other possible methods previously. I also found that Busybox was slightly out of date (difference of 2.0) and installed to /sbin which wasn't too big of an issue.
Beyond that my phone seems to get pretty warm and typically complains about not charging even on a 2 Amp charger.
Can you tell me how you avhieved root because i want it but i can't revert to kitkat for some reason (flashtool won't recognise the update file) and I'm on lollipop. I've tried kingroot(app version) and it didn't work, tried reverting didn't work and tried all the framaroot, towelroot and such apps but none worked. I want working root, xposed and twrp. I can't find any way to do it please help.

Try King root again. I used their apk on the phone. It rebooted once at 30%, but when I got back in the app after the reboot, it successfully rooted the device.

Thats why then. This is only for the Z3v the Verizon variant.
Hi there,
New to the forum. After several hours of reading and searching, I became bewildered enough to decide to register and post .
This thread looked promising. I'm currently on rooted 4.4.4 with this phone. I also have a custom recovery installed. Im trying to get to 5.1.1. As of right now, I assume my only option is to wait for a 5.1.1 ftf so that I can update, because the OTA updates won't work (phone reboots into the custom recovery and the update is interrupted).
Is there an easier way to get the OTA? Or am I stuck waiting for an ftf?
To be clear, my goal is to be on 5.1.1 with root. But at this point I don't think I can get to 5.1.1 at all.
