Looks really good IMO and i'm actually contemplating selling my Moto 360 and picking one up, just waiting on the UK pricing before I decide whether to upgrade. Plus sides are bigger battery, nicer styling and faster processor. Also the Sport version comes with GPS.

Love it, much more than any other smartwatch that came out.. It's a beauty.

bummed. Was hoping for full round display and speaker support. I am now looking at Samsung Gear S2.
Along with the huawei watch they both look sexy as hell but think i'll go with the full silver Moto tho simply because i think it will be cheaper. Google have to basic Moto 2nd gen starting at £229, can anyone tell me what the sensor at the bottom brings that makes it necessary for Motorola to include?
Does the new version feel the same in the hand as the original?
The original Moto feels quite light/flimsy in comparison to the LG Urbane.
The Urbane feels nice and weighty, which I like, but I prefer the design of the Moto.

It's not just the ambient light sensor that is located at the bottom the screen - the driver hardware is also there as well as edge of the screen that folds and is connected to the circuit board.
Other smartwatches have wider bezel that hide this hardware.
Yeah as said it includes the ambient light sensor. All other round smartwatches don't have this which is why they can have a full round circle. BTW where did you see the UK pricing on Googles website, as I can't see it?

Oh and all crappy iphones above ios 8.2
Better, but not there yet:
- size: better at 42mm, though still a bit too big imho; I could do with it
- lugs: much better, though I prefer fuller lugs
- still has QI charging: great; won't buy anything that misses QI charging
- LCD screen: nope-nope-nope
- flat tire: nope-nope-nope; that alone has me now wait for 360v3, with hopefully in-screen ambient sensor inbetween OLED pixels (won't buy anything without ambient sensor)
The flat tire doesn't really bother me that much. If you use a black watch face you don't even notice it.

Lots of people say that, but I find the lack of graduation between 5 and 7 o'clock hard to forget, and unsightly.
Also, limiting oneself to black dials is not very cool... fine for most of the time when you need to optimize battery use and can do with "sportier" clothes, but when you want to dress a bit "smarter", a slightly off-white dial is hard to beat.
Lack of OLED and having to cope with the limitations caused by the flat tire, on a 300€ watch and with those limitations going the way of the dinosaurs in one year or two? Not for me.
I thought that but was put off by the Moto 360's slow processor. However in the end the price dropped to a point where I just thought sod it. If you can wait another year before you get one do it. But I really wanted one as I was getting so annoyed with my analogue watches always having the wrong date on them.
I'm glad they've made a smaller, 42mm version this time. The original moto 360 was way too big for me, being used to small watches.
Though I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to get one or not. The higher release price doesn't help in that decision.
I know it's early to say already, but I'm curious how the next version is going to look like.
it should be half its price to consider buying it.
not going to pay for a device that is designed for a 1-year lifetime, more than 150 EUR.
on the hardware side: looks good.
but would like it to be slimmer (half), and with OLED screen.
This upgrade doesn't appear to be worth it, I recently bought the Moto 360 and can't seem a difference from the Moto 360 2015
I agree, not much of a difference between the two, a quad processor might make better battery life, but still not worth ditching my Moto 360

If battery turns out to be around a complete full day with "Always on screen", I might sell my Moto 360. I really like the Moto 360 especially since I only paid $169.00 back in July. I also have the LGUrbane and this can go for a day and half with "Always on screen".

For LCD the watch face does not effect battery usage. the LCD displays the screen and it is lit by a back light. your battery usage comment only applies to OLED screens.
Got a 42mm yesterday. Super happy with it so far. Flat tire was never a big deal to me on the old one. I didn't even notice it, really. I still don't on this one even with the smaller screen. Very pleased with my purchase.

Yes, you're right. It's that this watch confuses me.
It incites you to use mostly black dials, so the flat tyre is less blatant, but the LCD backlight negates the battery advantage of using a black background.
It has an ambient light sensor, but I see many complaints about the ambient mode pretty much being impossible to see, and about needing to light the watch up to the max through waking it to actually see a thing most of the time. And that's a step up from previous year model which actually shut off completely on ambient after some time.
None of that makes any sense to me... I'd love an Android Wear watch (not interested at all in other platforms), but the hardware always seems to make compromises I find hard to swallow...
That said, I may be quite incoherent myself, as I'm quite attracted to the Huwaei Active (black, leather band, though I'd probably ditch the band and install a textile one instead)... the lack of QI is deplorable, it's quite expensive for what it is, but if I could reasonably hope to manage having brightness acceptably managed through the phone by time of the day (neither blinding in darkness, nor invisible in daylight) , I may go for it.
I have the new watch and am generally happy with it. Unfortunately the quality of second party watch faces in dim mode is miserable and I will have to ditch most of the watch faces made with WatchMaker
Battery life has been excellent on the first daay. I have the screen always on. After 15 hours the battery is at 65%. One thing I have noticed is that the watch display turned off when it was laying on my desk unused throughout the night. Is this a new feature, that the Moto is able to tell (through lack of motion) when it is not being worn at night? This would be a very cool feature. I'll have to observe it some more.

Just have to look for faces with decent dim modes. If you're not already on the WatchMaker community on G+, join up. Tons of new free faces every day by awesome artists. And if you have a face you really love, you can always post it and request a dim mode be made for it.

Rest assured that with the mandatory low-bit mode on the new Moto, more and more watch faces will be made with simplified dim modes that look decent on our devices.
EDIT: added community link.

After having the iPhone 4s, HTC Sensation and a few other phones in rapid succession I am extremely happy with the Ray.
In someways, after not being tempted by a Sony phone for many years, it represents a comeback to me.
Sony must find it tough in the current market. No unique OS and tough competition from HTC, Samsung and a bunch of others in the Android space.
HTC are well designed phones, Samsung strength is in battery life, screen and cpu as they make all of these.
Sony has had to look for niches as well as making the standard stuff. The x10, and latterly the Xperia mini and mini pro have carved a good niche as small phones with an optional keyboard. Probably their main competitors being the HTC Explorer and HTC Wildfire S. Recently Samsung has also made a few smaller phones but with lower resolution. The keyboard was genius as there is a strong minority of phone users that want a keyboard and the only competition is the HTC Chacha (status) with tiny screen, or the Samsung Galaxy Pro with low resolution screen.
The Xperia play has not been so successful until recently when its price came sharply down.
The Ray however is unique. Not only is it unique, it is beautifully and solidly designed, despite being all plastic (albeit with metal frame).
Why I like the Ray:
1. Design. Light and solid (nothing flexes)
2. Small but usable
3. Awesome screen quality
4. Not bad battery life
5. Every feature under the sun except for dual core (thank goodness - given the poor battery life of every dual core phone)
6. Sony customisations actually work well. I have no desire to run to stock Android (the only other manufacturer I feel this way about is HTC).
Why I rate it better then the Sensation:
1. Battery life
2. Size
Why I rate it better then the iPhone:
1. Small screen in small body. iPhone is oversized for the current screen dimensions
2. Android functionally more advanced then iOS now
All of these are great phones but after many Sony phones which I feel are "me too" products, I think Sony is finally getting the software right.
Obviously the Ray is not for someone who wants a big screen or has massive hands (although I would argue its the accuracy of the touch, not the size, that is important), but I would say that the Xperia Ray is genuinely a market leading product for what it is, and the only small smartphone that is fully functional and a joy to use! Definitely more then a sum of its parts!

What do you think will be the answer in the Xperia S general forum
For me personal the XPS, because I really like the phone and software experience despited I have swapped my phone due to the yellow spot issue...
Now on the new one have to wait for the latest FW update .73 which solve the battery drain issue too...
Other then that a great phone with amazing screen/design/camera/sound which of course is subjective

I'd disagree - One X has slightly better camera and better display. Difference in camera quality isn't that obvious until you start shooting photos in low-light conditions, where HTC's very bright lens (f/2.0) starts showing its true potential, while Xperia S tends to leave excessive amount of purple noise (see my camera shoot-out between both). When it comes to the display - yes, Sony has better pixel density and image is exceptionally crisp, however HTC's display is better for browsing web, viewing photos, videos etc. and also has excellent viewing angles (which, as we know, isn't great in Xperia).
HOWEVER, as I currently have both One X and Xperia S, and I need to ultimately decide which one to keep as my default smartphone for the next 1-2 years, I'm leaning towards Xperia S after all. HTC has received exceptionally positive reviews around the web but personally I wasn't that impressed (my review will be up at coolsmartphone sometime next week). It still looks soooo HTC'ish, it's fairly chunky (albeit thinner and lighter than Xperia!), I still don't like HTC Sense that much (yet v4.0 is fairly ok) and finally I struggle to feel these "4+1" cores it supposedly has. Yet, it is pretty snappy in day-to-day usage, on par with Xperia S I'd say, however there are noticeable UI lock-ups that still happen occasionally. Especially after prolonged and heavy use, for example, if I spend too much time in Chrome Beta browsing websites, or view too many photos/videos in Gallery etc. launcher process is apparently restarted and reloading it takes 8-10 seconds! Really annoying and nothing anyone would expect from the phone bearing such spec. Another thing which annoys me in HTC is on-screen keypad, nowhere near as good as Sony's, especially when it comes to gesture input and autocorrection handling.
Don't get me wrong, HTC One X is really good device, in many ways much better than Sony Xperia S, however I feel slightly better while using Xperia after all, even if some of its hardware bits aren't as good as they could be.
I own both phones and as far as I can tell, xperia s is more responsive and stable than htc one x. Battery lasts longer as well.

In my case battery's better in HTC, however my Xperia is still running .67 and draining juice as hell, hoping .73 fw will fix it as some people reported.
I got the xperia s at launch and love it. Got the One X as an upgrade as its the phone I can get the most money for. took the sim out of the S, put it In the one x and used it for the day........loved it! The one x is much better all round apart from battery life. My sony smartwatch drained the **** out of it! One X is boxed up ready to sell. **** battery has cursed the one x, its like the desire all over again. Xperia S ftw!!!
I used both. Sold Xperia S and got HTC One X. Not sure if I can hold on it longer.
Lot depends on your preferences. I am biased towards Xperia designs. They look so unique and stylish to me. HTC phones haven't changed much in their curved corner looks that reminds me of a cow tongue.
1. One X seems to feel more well built and sturdy than S mainly because it's thinner and has no removable back cover.
2. S display is awesome but One X is not bad either.
3. S USB cover idea is terrible.
4. S capacitive buttons needs some getting used to.
5. Both camera's are good enough for phones.
I think it all comes down to you personal satisfaction. I am already thinking to sell my One X after another week or two and consider either Xperia S in white or P. I just love the Xperia's lean and clean ROMs and user interface and designs.

Yeah, very well said. Both phones are pretty capable hardware-wise (HTC maybe a little bit more), both have certain strengths and weaknesses, hence difficult to pick a clear winner here. I guess personal preference would be main factor here for anyone.
You should also consider the HTC One S.. It's like an improved Xperia S on a One X body, the only thing wrong with it is the qHD Pentile SAMOLED screen, personally, me moving from a Samsung Wave won't make a difference, if Pentile doesn't bother you, pick the HTC One S, it's the fastest phone on the market thanks to the Snapdragon S4 chipset, GSMArena said it's the best music phone, and it has the same camera as the One X, with a better design.
XPS no doubt around that, screen and camera cant be compared.
Xps is a way better in that.

Well that is always subjective to the reviewer or user and is always biased
I don't agree with you about browsing and videos (HD) this one is for me personal a clear winner and about the viewing angles that's a non brainier.
I always look straight to screen Then we have the unique human eye which plays a part too for every user lol
Reviews show camera on HTC beeing slightly worse than Xperia,
actually HTC made it quite mediocre.
Some videos also show browser stuttering.
I believe quadcores are not optimized yet in full.
Design of Sony is IMO ahead as well as UI which looks more clunky on HTC.
I have Xperia S myselt. Also I used One X quite a lot. One X has a lot of advantages before the Xperia S. Screen is a lot more bigger if you compare two devices. Also i like the colors more on the One X. It has ICS with Sense 4 UI from the box and that thing is just awesome even though Sony did a great job to the GB making it look very good too. The camera is even more fast on One X and photo quality is not bad at all. The speaker is louder on the Xperia S. You cant forget about Tegra 3 platform which is very good in terms of graphics/perfomance. Also there are a lot of custom roms for One X and they make it last for 3 days without charge in medium usage level. Also it feels monolith compared to XPS which constists of several parts with all these covers and transparent panels. Maybe you dont need that much out of a mobile phone, but yes, the One X is better choice if you put away the fact that it costs a lot more then Xperia. If I haven't bought the Xperia I'm sure i would buy the One X instead. But now personaly I don't see many reasons for changing my device.
Oh and the white One X with its huge screen is just simply amazing. You definitely have to take a look at it for yourself.

Well I don't like a bigger screen so easy choice
Lol my youngest Son updated his brand new Sensation Beat to ICS guess what beside some
cosmetic stuff he didn't noticed a lot of difference between GB and ICS ;-)
Not to mentioned the extra strain on the battery through ICS, still the weak point of all mobile phones...
Here in Canada I have decided to go for the XPERIA S. Mostly because I like the aestetics of the Xperia a lot more. The One X would look nice, if it didn't have that bulge where the camera is. That (in my opinion) was the major deal breaker.
The XPERIA S costs $499 Canadian here and the One X is rumoured to be $620. Albeit that the One X has a better processor and includes LTE, it wasn't what I wanted. If I were to get the One X, I would get the black LTE version, and only the white LTE version is coming to Canada.
I should have the XPERIA in my hands Tuesday, Unless I happen to come across an Black LTE One X (for cheaper), I'm staying with the XPERIA.
I've got both, Xperia S first. I'm used to sense and really like it so I missed having it. The screen on the Sony is crisper but the HTC is very clear also. I much prefer the widgets on the HTC to the Sony.
For me the One wins hands down but only because I like sense and because I had a hd2 for two years I'm biased
Don't get me wrong the Xperia is a lovely phone, just not for me.
As some of you mentioned,It's down to personal preference.
Good luck with whatever you decide

I have both a HTC One X and the Xperia S.
I had the One X backordered and then my iPhone4 died.. so I bought the Xperia to tide me over until my One X arrived. Like one of the other posters I am quite partial to HTC sense having owned an HTC Desire HD, and a Sensation previously. But I bought Fancy widgets pro and was able to enjoy the best parts of the Sense experience on the Xperia S.
My One X finally arrived a few days ago, and after setting it up and using it for one day... I have decided to sell it and stay with the Xperia. I do like ICS but guess that it will be here soon... but there was nothing that I found that superior on the One X to make me want to keep using it.
Hey guys,
I was an iPhone user for years and jumped ship to android in 2012; best mobile decision I ever made. I began with the S3, then moved to Note 2, then Note 3. So my android experience has strictly been with Samsung. I like their phones and actually don't mind TouchWiz, but I keep looking at the Z Ultra. I love the size (main reason I'm considering it) and think I would really enjoy the phone. In my eyes it would truly be a 2 in 1 device. If I get it, I will sell the Nexus 7 I installed in my truck as a head unit and rig up a mount to slide the Z Ultra in to. That way I won't have to tether everytime which seems to be spotty at best (a lot of the times everything's connected with full signal but the internet doesn't work), and I can simply have one device.
Enough rambling, I have a few questions for all you Z Ultra owners:
Have any of you swithced from a Note 2/Note 3 to a Z Ultra?
What do you think is better about the Z Ultra than Note 3 (other than size)?
If I should keep the Note 3, why do you think that?
I'm a T12/L1 paraplegic from a skydiving accident resulting in a Spinal Cord Injury, so I roll around in a wheelchair all day. The Z Ultra will store nicely in a little pocket on the front of my cushion, so I don't think I'll have to deal with the typical "pocket" issues. Only thing I'll miss is the removable battery, but I could get over it. I always have two spare Note 3 batteries charged so I can swap out a dead one on the fly.
Thanks everyone!
I got my z ultra two days ago, best decision ive ever made
Its more fluid and smoother then my 2013 nexus 7 and I get asked about it all the time
I also get up to 15mbps on 3G but with my s3 I got 4 so I dont know if it made it faster

1. I am Sony user basically (just a one timer with Motorola) so no
2. Well:
The Screen estate is bigger (1080p with 320dpi, compared with 1080p with 480dpi in Note 3), Yeah the icon is smaller but you got a lot more room.
really slim and sexy compared to Note 3
no TouchWiz ugly UI (but that's just me )
NFC connectivity feature is a lot more pronounced and all the Sony NFC enabled accessories are the bomb too
waterproof of course (The cleanest of device i have ever used because when it's dirty, just wash it on the drain)
able to use any pencil as an input device (even if you don't have one, soaked wooden chopstick is perfect for XZU)
3. Note 3 is good because:
S-Pen (if you're an artist though)
Not really as ugly as the predecessor (more boxy i guess so more love i give)
Removable Battery (Not that XZU is bad in battery life but might be a niggling problem for some, but those Sony slim powerbank is the solution)
Camera (13MP + Flash + Samsung algorithm)
More dev support @ XDA
Well i'd say you'd better wait for the Xperia Z2 Ultra, because that Note 3 is quite sufficient for you imho and you won't gain too much with XZU (plus if you ever want to have a big screen, that N7 is probably enough for now). But if you really want to save some space right now, then XZU is the perfect answer bro..
If your goal is to replace your 7" tablet and your phone by a single device, then the Ultra is definitely your choice. I come from a Note+ Tablet combination, and haven't regretted one single day my new Z Ultra Only limitation imho is the camera in poor light conditions. For the rest, the phone rocks.

#1 Yes came from a long line of Samsung phones, including Note 1, Note 2 and a test of Note 3 which made me skip it as I was still upset with Samsung about changing from the rumored 6" display to a whopping .18" increase :/
#2 Well, I was afraid of changing from Samsung where I knew pretty much everything..to a new system...but today, I can say....it is the BEST change I have done. As much as I enjoyed my Note 2, the Ultra is just another thing!
Smooth as butter...this stock ROM is just amazingly fast, clean and the fact that it is customized to actually use the bigger screen and fit more stuff in it, that is just sweet!
So what I like more than Note 2 is the way it is designed with the bigger size in mind and how smooth it is. Fast like crazy and just the screen size makes it an awesome experience.
Another thing I love is how easy it connects to a PS3 controller if that matters to you. Basically if yuo have bluetooth one, press the button on your PS3 controller and that is it...ready to rock.
It even tells you what charge level your controller has and lets you turn it off from the phone too. :good:
Another thing I love..the display quality..yes it does not have the deep blacks of the Notes but the colors look much more accurate..I do photo editing so finally I dont feel like having to tweak the "Punky Brewster like" Note 2 and 3 colors
#3 well if drawing on the phone is important to you, the Note 3 clearly has the advantage there. Yes the Ultra works with pretty much anything to draw but the precision of the Note 3 is clearly on a different level.
The Camera on the Note 3 is also better (not that phone cameras really matter to me) but one trick on the Ultra is to manually set your ISO then the quality looks a LOT better.
Overall, I would go with the Ultra...I just love mine! :good:
Another Samsung ex-user here. I came from note1, got fed up with touchwizz and poor batteries. I know they've improved on that, but even so, despite a few niggles with Sony roms, I much prefer the interface, much more stock android. No bells and whistles that you find in touchwizz but you can find an alternative app for pretty much anything.
Media wise it really is awesome, the screen is wonderbra. Obviously I'm biased, but get one and update to 290 for best results.

I have own both the note 3, xperia z ultra and the Google play edition z ullra. My only complaint is the camera is absolutely garbage and no led flash to boot, so low lit area camera shots are especially horrible. Other than that the z ultra is a better phone in EVERY way.

Also switched from Note 3. Note 3 has way more features packed in. But, well, I find myself not using any of them.
What I do miss are flashlight and TV remote.
Z Ultra is a beast - no, even BEAST. It`s fast and smooth, has great battery life (with stamina mod It uses 1% over night for me)
Also you have to understand that this phone is people magnet - everyone starts looking on you and asking questions. Also you will have to take it out of the pocket each time you sit down. So you will get alot of attention even if it will just lay on the table
Another minus I have noticed - Z Ultra has somewhat low sound volume. Sound quality is great but I often find myself missing a call while phone is in my pocket (never happened with my s3 or Note 3 with same soundtrack)

It requires Root and I am not willing to unlock bootloader (290) - will wait for 4.4.

No it doesn't. xLOUD is a stock feature. Just open the equalizer.

Thank you - haven`t noticed these.
I have a N3 and a ZU (GPe). I use my ZU as a portable tablet. My Z tablet, I only use for flights and I find my Nexus 7 a little too big to carry around for every day use. For me, the ZU and Nexus 5 combo are great for various tasks throughout the day.

As I said, change it to manual ISO 50 or 100 and it looks a LOT cleaner.
If we are going to say garbage then I can say that from pretty much any camera phone compared to my real cameras so its all in the eye of the beholder

You can play with the settings all you'd like, but in low light situations picture results are less than to be desired (garbage may have been a little harsh ). I would have kept the Z Ultra Google Play Edition, but having kids and owning a restaurant, having a better camera than the Z Ultra was a must for me. Z Ultra is my all time favorite phone, but that camera made me mental. If taking pictures isn't a priority for you the the Z Ultra is pure win. If you count on good pics or an LED flash daily then you're S.O.L with the Ultra. Just saying.

Problem is to me, if taking picture is a priority then you get a REAL camera..so for me picture taking priority and phone camera are not terms that go together.
Also, a tiny flash for low light photography is for me as crappy as a grainy low quality image. Both suck big time..that why we have real cameras with big sensors if photography is really that important.
Just my 2 cents
And like I said, test them..I did MANY times with many apps...manual ISO on .290 roms is a LOT cleaner. But yeah neither can touch a real camera as should be expected.
Regards

Maybe I'll get a galaxy zoom lol. Idk. The Note 3 and LG G2 take really nice pics. I don't need professional quality, but decent pics to share and what not. Now stop arguing with me lol j/k

Ok so i've had my C5 Ultra for a few days now here in the UK and have had a few ups and downs but i've solved the problems I had with the phone.
I'm coming from the Z3 which I had an original sandisk 128gb micro SD card in. (Bear in mind I have tried several different Micro SD cards and I always buy original good ones)
Problems I had:
1. With the Z3 taking pictures was very quick whilst having the default storage to Micro SD card, DO NOT set the camera storage to micro SD on the C5 Ultra it takes 5 times longer to write to the micro SD card than the internal memory, so if you want to take photos in quick succession then don't save to the external memory.
2. Again an external micro SD card problem.....I have lots of apps and games, games especially taking up loads of space. I thought id be clever and install some big games and use lollipops feature of transferring them to the external memory to gain some space. This will slow the entire system down. DONT DO IT TRUST ME, pick your favourite apps and be done with!!
3. I have a Sony Smartwatch 3 and paired it with the phone and installed the Lifelog app. Currently (10th September) this app will slow your C5 Ultra down, it may not be optimised for Mediatek processors yet. Id wait for the app to be updated before you use/download it. Use the Google Fit app which works fine and can be left on even in stamina mode.
4. Don't expect the battery to be as good as a Sony Xperia Z3, its close and you will be happy with the C Ultras battery life but don't expect flagship battery life. (this may change as the battery on my C5 Ultra has not been run in plus I've been using this phone constantly!! Also the phone is on 5.0 lollipop and not 5.1.1 so the memory leak bug is probably there.) The good news is the battery life is better than the Z Ultra!
5. The phones 3g/4g signal is pretty weak, I thought the Z3 was bad but this is worse, hopefully in the next firmware update this will be resolved.
6. The takes a long time to charge. Probably about 3 hours from flat, quick charge plugs dont charge it any faster.
7. I miss the magnetic charger and the dock, im a massive fan of these. I have the dk52 dock for the c5 ultra but im always weary ill scratch the case around the micro usb.
The good:
Being a heavy phone user and my previous phones being : Xperia Z, Z Ultra, Z2, Galaxy note 2, 3, 4, Nexus 6 and Xperia Z3 I can honestly say now that I have solved the phones problems, this is the best phone I have owned, its the perfect size and price for me.
1. The Screen is gorgeous, its that bright i have it on the lowest setting! Picture quality is great even at near harsh angles.
2. Both cameras are great, youll need patience with them, dont be expecting to be taking great sports shots though.
3. the in call speaker is better than the Z3, id go as far as saying its the better than the Z series!
4. I got the official dock as well and love the portrait orientation.
5. Games and movies look brilliant in landscape and apps are a joy to use on this 6" screen.
6. Bluetooth music quality is brilliant, I stream to another stereo via bluetooth and the quality is near cd.
7. That selfie cam is brilliant, great wide angle shots and finally great selfies on nights out with low light!
As you can see the Phone completes the rest of my Sony setup (Yep my whole house is a Sony Shop LOL!)!! Anyway, enjoy and if your after a phablet sized sony phone then this is the one to have. Thanks.

I recently bought my C5 Ultra several days back and I'm more than impressed!
Surprisingly the screen is VERY bright. At 15-20% it's as bright as my old Xperia Z3 at 50-60%
Black/white levels and colours all look great once properly calibrated via the white balance settings.
Camera is excellent and the flash is strong. Only issue with the camera is the inability to shoot at 50 iso, the lowest is 100.
Speaker is loud and clear when watching movies, playing games and listening to music.
Voice calls are loud and clear, surprisingly the loudspeaker is crisp and sharp.
Hopefully soon someone can make a sound mod which not only improves and increases sound but also gives us stereo sound out the upper earpiece. There were several of these mods available for the Xperia Z Ultra and the sound was great.
Battery is excellent. I've got around 93% and the phone has been around 12 hours turned on and only lightly used.
I wish we get a working custom recovery with root since half the apps I have require root access. I miss Xposed, Greenify, GMD Autohide Soft Keys & most of all Titanium backup.
That said, the device has only just been released so realistically we need to give it weeks if not more for development to roll.
Front camera.
OP. Can you post some pics taken by the front cam of this device? Im a sony fan and this baby got my interest. Maybe ill be buying this as a christmas gift for myself :cyclops:
Hi, do any of you get that screen flicker bug b4 playing videos (ie, youtube, faceboo/insta vids)?
@JKWR re signal - my phone is giving me very good Lte and 3g signals, better than my previous phone which was the 6 plus.
Hi, since you have the z3 and c5. Is it possible for you to give some comment on which one haa better camera? Im looking ti upgrade from oneplus one since its camera just fall apart in low light. My choice is either z3 compact, z2, c5 or m5. And do you have self cracking issue on your sony product?
Heres some front facing camera pics, sorry I look severely hung over on some!!

The C5 in my opinion takes better pictures than the Z3 in any situation. However taking photos in quick succession the z3 is better at. Z3 is quicker at opening the camera app and switching back and forth from the gallery to camera etc.
Z3 is hands down better at taking videos. Its leagues ahead.
Nice review, now most of my questions have been resolved and I will buy this phone next month as a Christmas gift
However, currently, I am living in Peru but in 6 days I'll travel to Orlando - Florida as an International Cultural Exchange Program student. The fact is that I don't know If I should buy this phone on a Sony Store (not sure if its in stock), or buy it on Internet (Amazon or eBay). What I really wanna know is if when I come back to my country, I will be able to catch the signal here in Peru . Some friends told me that the phone has to be GSM and obviously unlocked. Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad english :silly:

I recently replaced my Note 2 with a second hand Z2. It's been an adjustment going back to the smaller screen, so I was intrigued by this phone. I went back to Sony because I missed having the FM radio and I thought I was going to get better camera performance. (Pretty disappointed in the Z2, even with non-stock apps or on Superior Auto.) Before the Note I had an Xperia Ion and it took amazing macro shots. How are the macro shots on the C5?
You had a Nexus 6 and you like this one better?? Damn, I miss my Nexus 6. This phone imo is super slow, slower than my Nexus 6. The only thing that is better is the camera and quality of the phone. Hopefully the update will make it faster...

Yes the camera is very much a downgrade, but I have a hunch that it is software related and not hardware. They just need to fix their camera app.
I did my replacement with Galaxy S7 Edge and i dont regret replacing ZU
I also upgraded my Z Ultra to the Phab 2 Pro. Almost identical in size. The new phone fits in my CP-12 Power Cover (face down only because of the curve back.) It does not fit in the Sony Kruesel case, strange enough. The screen is very nice. To me, the camera in the Phab 2 Pro is leaps and bounds better than the XZU. The overall unit is not as user-friendly as the Sony, but it is every bit as snappy (if not moreso.)

Am in reverse here (sort of) went back to the Ultra Z after owning it in the first 3 months of 2014...lol..great device (existenz rom v7 minimal - double tap to wake, great call clarity, all important lte bands-camera is not great but works well fairly lit indoors, outdoors) (did consider the phab2 pro though; have the Lenovo S850LC 8 inch tabelt phone that can make phone calls get all imp US lTE bands but horrible interface and it has hardly got any updates-still on KK as the 5.1 is atrocious-that device actually has a flash and a decent camera esp considering it is an actual tablet)
