New to G3, please help!!!!! - Verizon LG G3

Hi guys, i have been on these forums for a few years now but i've always dealt with Nexus 6 or samsung products. I laid my hands on a Verizon G3 but i use T-mobile. I have no problem getting it to work on T-mobile but what i do need help with is upgrading the device.
Yesterday i used the IOROOT process to root the device and i used flashify to install TWRP, but then i downloaded a couple custom roms and when i wiped and tried to flash in TWRP i got an error telling me that i don't have the 23c or 24b baseband. After this "issue" i got introduced to using kdz files to restore the device back to stock 10b.
After i did that i tried to manually update this G3 to 23c or 24b but i can't figure it out. I tried downloading the 24b.zip from AFH and flash it in TWRP but that didn't work, so i'm not sure if i was doing it properly. I tried using the device on wifi to do an OTA update but it said i have the latest software, which i know i don't. then i downloaded the LG Update Tool and ran that and got the same issue claiming that i have the latest software for the phone......
Can someone please tell me what i have to do to get this phone updated to 23c or 24b so i can get back to being a crack flashing addict?
thanks

I'm unfamiliar with the 24b.zip. You only have to flash the 23C modem from bwendiord's stickied thread in the General section in order to flash CM12.1 based ROMs. You can then flash the 24b modem afterwards.
If you want to update the entire stock version of ROM you're using, JasmineROM 8.0 would be the easiest way. Just flash it in TWRP v2.8.7.0, you don't have to flash anything else before or after.

in addition,
the reason it wont update is because the 10b kdz is not official. for 10b you have to use the tot if you want to take official updates over the air.
all the other builds kdz are official and fine to use.

Thanks guys. I realized that I could just use the 23c kdz file and I was all set

Update from 10B to ???

I am fairly competent with installing and wiping and what be, I was comfortable with 10b on my G3 and stuck with it till now. I am ready for LP. I just don't know where to go.
I want to run stock but I also want to tinker with CM again.
What would be the best way to update to a fully working ROM or heck even to 24b?
I can't update on my phone for some reason it just boots to TWRP and I have to flash a fix.
Thanks

Use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140 to update to 23C from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/vzw-vs985c01-kdz-t3077799
I HIGHLY recomend booting to stock LG recovery and doing a factory wipe after flashing the KDZ
Then root using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
install twrp recovery by using the autorec vs985 app from the play store.
Edit: the OTA failed because you had TWRP installed. You could also use the 12B KDZ and then take whatever OTAs are available, that might get you to 24B
You can also just use LG Flash Tool 2014 to flash the 23C KDZ instead of 12B and root using the one click root script, then for TWRP, search in the Play Store for autorec VS985.
There's no root for 24B yet and you can't be rooted before you take the 24B OTA so if you want 24B and don't want to wait then don't root and don't install a custom recovery, just take the OTA once you're in 23C.

You could also just wipe and Flash Jasmine ROM or SkyDragon ROM for your stock-based ROM--all the features, debloated, no KDZ mess required.
Once you have that in place and have made a backup via TWRP, you can play with whatever AOSP ROM(s) you like.

I'm in the same boat as OP. Essentially there is no difference between 10B and 23C? (Aside from Lollipop vs Kit Kat). You can still root, install a custom recovery, and flash roms like CM?

Since you are running TWRP, that means you are rooted and therefore, it will not take the update because it senses your phone has been modified. You will have to flash back to a stock image (which means it will wipe everything on your phone so back it all up - photos, music, data, etc). This includes everything on the internal SD card (but not the external SD card).
Once you've done that, follow the directions given by others in this thread to go back to a stock image.

This was of course before "edor" found out there is actually a root now for 24B.

It's amazing the slight differences in rooting methods with different results. The one that works on 24B doesn't work on 12B, or at least for me it caused endless boot animation even with a reboot, but it was the middle of the night so I don't think I tried a Factory Reset to be sure, but I haven't had to Factory Reset after using that root on 23C or 24B.

[Q] Help with recovery method on 10B

So, I'm just a little bit confused about something and was hoping someone could clear it up for me.
I'm coming off of 35B (total mistake, don't take that OTA); I've just downgraded to complete stock firmware (10B) using the .TOT method. I've also ran stumproot successfully and have root. Now, my next step is to flash TWRP, but here's my question:
I've seen a few different instructions stating "this file is not for Lollipop devices" or "not for KitKat devices"... I'm just a little unsure if different versions of TWRP are going to affect whether or not I'm able to flash Lollipop ROMs (stock or AOSP, doesn't matter). I was told to flash the newest JasmineROM to make it all the way up to 5.1.1, but I'm a little confused as to whether you simply shouldn't flash a KitKat TWRP on Lollipop devices, or if you shouldn't flash a Lollipop TWRP on KitKat devices (if there is a such thing as either).
So, in a nutshell, can I flash the absolute newest version of TWRP for VS985 on my 10B device, flash the newest JasmineROM right away, then proceed to flash any Lollipop ROM I want?
Can anyone elaborate?
Yes, you can. I used TWRP Manager under 10B to get the latest TWRP.

Jasmine Rom 9.0/9.1 encryption issue

I was running on Jasmine 8.0 which overall was running fine. I saw the new update, so I removed my work e-mail, decrypted the phone, and followed the normal install steps for 9.0. When I went back to add in my work e-mail again, I had to encrypt, so I went through that process and got back to the initial password/pin entry screen which tools me my pin was incorrect. I finally was able to rewipe the phone to get back to square 1. Since then I've tried 9.0, 9.1, and multiple combinations of pins and passwords and every time on the initial screen it tells me it's incorrect and starts counting down to wipe.
I'm not sure what to do since my work e-mail requires encryption. I don't want to go back to 8.0 (not sure that will even work).
Verizon, LG g3, latest version of twrp
you are 100 * right
this is a big deal.
i ended up wiping my phone (KDZ) because the phone cannot wipe itself because we changed the recovery.
then I did the whole thing again. but I encrypted FIRST then I flashed the rom.
2 things I noticed. 1 i did know my password
2 neither version of twrp would decrypt my phone to mount data
2.8.0.0 or 2.8.7.0. i had this problem before on my motorola. i didi find a version that did i work it was 2.8.1.0
so I flashed from an otg drive 9.0 and 9.1 in sequence and it
then said it did not know my password.
so I do not know if tis a 9.0 or a 9.1 problem.
i can live without a Android beause I can always kdxz back and use titanium back up.
ill just debloat my stock rom for now and use xposed
It's probably not specific to JasmineROM, but that's a guess. Anyone confirm this happening to them in the SkyDragon ROM thread?
If it happens on both them it's likely either a bug with 35B 5.1.1 on the VS985, or it's related to the way things currently have to be in order to have both working cell service and be able to get back into TWRP. Specifically, the 12B bootloader that's necessary in order to get into TWRP, and the 24B modem which is necessary because the 35B modem doesn't work with the 12B bootloader.

This "bootstack" of XDABBEB also happens to fix the VPN issue I was having. I was getting entries in logcat like "LGKM: Failed to init km_meta" and "keystore: Master key initialization failed" along with some QSEECOM-related errors. I could not add a VPN, basic or LG, because it would keep bouncing me back and often asking me to set lockscreen security even though it was already set. All better now.

[Q] VS985 - Trouble getting SIM to function after my root/TWRP/Skydragon ROM install

I've managed to take a stock Verizon 35B phone, and:
...downgrade it to 10B
...root it
...install TWRP
At this point, the SIM still works, I connect to the Verizon network, things seem good, but I'm trying to get to a Skydragon v6.0.2 install.
So, I then proceed to:
...grab the 35B modem from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56005257
(I've also tried the 35B bootstack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/xdabbeb-s-vs980-2-0-0-t3231279 )
...install Skydragon v6.0.2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...9-skydragon-g3-vs985-kvt49l-vs98512b-t2967868
(I've tried both the stock and custom kernal)
I'm flashing the 35B modem then the ROM via TWRP. On reboot, while the system seems to work, the SIM card simply isn't ever recognized and I can't get on the Verizon network.
The Status lists "unknown" for my phone number, IMEI, and basically all settings, and under Software Info by Baseband version is also unknown. So I think that means there's something wrong with the modem, yes?
How can I get to a functional Skydragon ROM?

On SkyDragon 6.x and JasmineROM 9.x you have to flash the 35B bootstack after, not before. Both ROMs contain the 24B modem and other 24B partitions, which will overwrite anything you flash before.

Thank you very much! I'll get on that.
Purely for curiosity: if you know - and no need to respond if you don't - why would those ROMs include earlier-iteration modem information when they're designed for the 35B update?
They couldn't figure out how to get both the 35B modem and still being able to get into TWRP to coexist.
The solution was some of the 35B partitions neither include which @xdabbeb 's bootstacks do.

Can't get to marshmallow

My friend has a verizon LG G3. It is currently running 5.1.1 lollipop 35b. It was having a bunch of random reboots, we put in a new battery and the reboots stopped. The phone is working fine, except it keeps downloading the 46a 6.0 marshmallow update, but when it reboots to install, it gets to 2% and says error and reboots and I am back in 5.1.1 lollipop still. I checked software status, and it said "official" and I even used the Lg upgrade and repair assistant from verizon and chose to repair, which downloaded a 1.64 gb file (the 35b software kdz I'm pretty sure) and flashed it to the phone. I have also used lg flash tool 2014 to flash the 35b kdz. It always flashes the 35b kdz just fine, but still fails to take the marshmallow update.
I don't need root. All I'm trying to do is get from stock 35b lollipop to 46a marshmallow since it keeps failing. Since it didn't work even after successfully flashing the kdz, do I have to go all the way back to 10b and then just take a bunch of software updates ota until I get to 46a? I helped her get this phone on ebay, and it wasn't rooted when we got it, but for some reason it just won't take the update.
I understand there is no 46a kdz available right? I have been reading around about downgrading to 10b and whatnot here on xda, but I would prefer to not have to go through all that extra hassle if I don't have to. I don't need root, just need to update.
Any tips / ideas would be great! thanks.

I doubt if that would make any difference - OTAing to 35B gets you the same thing as flashing the 35B KDZ, but this is such a weird problem, I don't know... Try it and let us know.
You could try any extra factory reset even though flushing the KDZ with the official tool does that.
The only other thing I can think of is to try taking the OTA without the Micro SD card in.

Correct, haven't seen it. The tool you used should've downloaded the 46A KDZ if it had been available.
