OK guys.
Got given an i9305 today (UK) that's pretty 'knackered' lol , some Liquid Rom boot screen on it, but it's pretty slow, with dodgy WiFi, so I wanna wipe and start it afresh. What are the steps you would recommend?, with it being an old device and such.
Not clued up on this device whatsoever?, so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanking you kindly, as always.
If u wanna stay on the same rom, then just do a factory reset. but if u wanna enjoy the world of endless roms, first root the device, and flash any rom u may like in the Android Devs section of this forum. Find the rooting guide at the General section of the forum too. Enjoy

This is my first android phone. Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. I plan on rooting my phone tomorrow and I was wanting to put 2.2 firmware on the phone. I have been told that there are different roms and such and I was hoping someone here could tell me which is the best way to go about upgrading my phone. I tried reading some threads but I am not sure which is the best way to go. Any help would be appreciated.
If you've never rooted your phone and installed a custom ROM before... Read, read, read these forums and especially the thread for the ROM you are thinking of installing. Know how to get yourself out of a jam before you even get in it.

+1...This is what I followed when I flashed my wifes vibrant awhile back, and followed again just a few days ago when I picked mine up.
As for 2.2 ROMs...you will just have to play with them. I would recommend starting with flashable ROMs as they are a little easier to work with if you do not have a lot of experience with flashing
I might suggest this one if you want a no frills basic 2.2 stable, rooted ROM to work with

Thread cleaned. Stop the flaming.
Thanks for the replies! I will start off with that nice guide on how to root the phone. I get the phone tomorrow so hopefully I will not be in here crying about how I ruined my phone. The last phone I modded was the first gen iPhone a few years back. There are so many different things to read that this is a little confusing. I mostly created this thread to get pointed to what works best for those on this forum.
Please before making a thread and flooding this forum with help questions do a little of searching many of you guys problem is simple and easy to solve don't start thinking its the end of the world and make a big deal out of it. I know you guys are desperate but please don't keep posting that your device is bricked.
Fixing bricks
Go do some searching in the developer forum really easy how to's and roms there to help you.
Avoiding Bricks
DO not flash any rom other than the one for your device.
Don't go exploring new things and start messing with your device unless you are sure that it is 100% compatible.
One thing i did encounter myself was a bootloop with the YP-G1 because i went into custom recovery while i had steves rom so dont go into that.
Hi all,
I'm a really noobie on android customization and I was looking for the RESURRECTİON REMİX İCS ROM v9.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854&highlight=tutorial) and I read and searched over the dev thread and I saw the sequence and what I need to install, but the problem is: how to install those stuff? If anyone could help me on that I would appreciate that.
Thank you so much.
If you need to ask, you shouldn't for a moment consider trying. Wait for ICS to be officially released by Samsung for your device or do some reading yourself. Being a noob is a choice you make, not something you're born with.

Well, those files are needed to be added into your phone and then installed through CWM (Clockworkmod Recovery)
You'll want first root the phone with a kernel that has CWM as well. CF-Root would be the best one for beginners, you can find it on the Original Development thread and follow the steps there to root your device.
Afterwards, you'll want to reboot your device to CWM (Vol Up + Home + Power button when device is off) and install all the necessary files in sequence (using install zip from sdcard). First, make sure you do a nandroid backup incase you wanna go back to your old firmware if you regret it.
I'm pretty sure if you research more throughout the forums, you'll find out what you need to do (hell, it did for me, so it should for you as well)
Good luck!!
Read the sub forum stickys there's guides to rooting flashing etc.
XDA is a development site and a little leg work is needed.

There are a few things I would like to do that require root access. I am scared of messing anything up so any help I can get is greatly appreciated.
I would like to control cpu frequency using Antutu Cpu Master Free.
I would like to remove some bloatware apps from my phone also but I am not sure what I absolutely need to keep.
My Phone is the Galaxy S II sgh-t989 Android 4.0.3. My kernel version is 3.0.8-perf-T989UVLE1-CL508451.

No intention to immediatly burn you down when you're new here, but since you are new you should read the forum rules and the stickies first. Everything you ask is already explained hundreds of times, so don't start thinking about rooting yet if you don't know what you're doing.
As said above, first start reading and learning. It's the best way.

Welcome to forum!
You don't need to search so much to find how to root your device.. Well, i'll recommend you cyanogen mod, it's a very famous rom i've got installed and i love it. It works very well, it's JB, increases A LOT battery life.. and automatically adds rooot to your phone. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/index.php?title=Install_CM_for_i9100
You should read guides and stuff, for learning more for your device. In the top of this web, there is a text box to search posts, threads.. If you type in "Custom ROM" you will find a lot of useful information, do the same with all that words you don't understand.
In the bottom of every post, there is a button called "Thanks", if this post was useful to you, click it (just information ). You should do it with every post useful to you, but there is a limit. You should read this post for learning the rules and other forum stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699450
EDIT: I forgot, please read about root, don't root the phone without knowing what is it. Check en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_rooting
