Recovery for OC1? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

https://youtu.be/GlPOuqV9rGY
So I found this on YouTube. Guy in the comments says he got it to work on his S4 5.0.1 rooted. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Either he's wrong or he has a phone with a mdk bootloader

Probably a s4 not on Verizon or att. Other variants have unlockable bootloader.
Sent from S4 using the better than it was then they jacked it again Tapatalk

Hmmm probably. I didn't think about the variant option. Sorry for the false alarm

It's the GSM unlocked GT-I9505, you can see in the settings.

Flashing Sprint Firmware

What happens if you try to ODIN Sprint firmware onto a Verizon device?

It (hopefully soft) bricks it. ODIN will "Fail!" and your phone will reject the foreign organism, requiring you to flash a stock ROM to recover.
Oh, and probably setting the warranty void flag in the process.
Apparently you're not aware of the fact that the Verizon Galaxy S4 is NOT the same hardware as the Sprint Galaxy S4.
I was not. I find that interesting though. Similar LTE band. Do you know what differences there are?

[Q] Verizon, HTC and Anniversaries ....

Please check my facts ... here's the deal. Last week, I was about to pull the trigger on a Verizon deal for a pair of HTC One (M7s) as an Anniversary gift for me and wifey. My spouse thought she surprise me first and well, she did. She picked up the HTC (M7) and got me a new Verizon S4 (4.3) on contract.
Now I'm all caught up on 4.4.2 KitKat issues on the S4 ( of course, after I bought a 32gb extSD) and the various ways of rooting (too many to count now) and etc. etc. etc.
A very tardy 4.4.x for Verizon is rumored to be here in a couple of weeks. Will this OTA break the LOKI bootloader bypass? I love both of the phones and am a Touchwiz fan to a degree, but I'm wondering what the future may hold.
Is this a waiting game for now? I wonder if I could return the S4 (after 2 weeks) by bringing to light the absurdity of selling [sic] anyone a phone with SD card designs that are compromised to a large degree (I know, not completely) ....
Thanks in advance.

Yea Decaturbob I'm sure He's not on MDK but you never know I suppose. Few months ago people were still getting them at Radio Shacks randomly.

Loki was only for MDK.
Anything after can be rooted and install SafeStrap. The official Verizon 4.4.2 isn't out yet but there is a leaked version as well as a method to update to it from mk2 and keep root.
Just do a lot of research before jumping into anything that you may not be able to come back from.

Tmobile Diagnostics

Just found out today that Tmobile has diagnostic software @ technical support and they can tell whether or not your device has been rooted. They can also see what software you have installed, settings, etc.

Yeah but you can turn it off. I did that just so my phone isn't bogged down from it

Since you work for tmobile, it would be nice to get a definitive answer to this. Do they check knox when you trade the phone in for a jump upgrade?

Bought used, rooted S4. Am I unlocked?

Before I get people in here looking to "flame a noob", please leave me alone if that is your intention. If you genuinely are a helpful person, please read on.
I came from an unlocked s3 before I purchased a phone from Swappa and it is rooted and works fine. However, it has a pink theme and I am not into it. Additionally, I want to upgrade the rom if possible.
The issue is that I don't know if I need safestrap or of it has an unlocked bootloader. The reason why is from what I have read, the mj7 baseband is locked down. However, the phone seems to be running a custom kernel, which from what I have read is not possible on a locked down version. Is it possible that the baseband is just the one used by the custom rom?
Is there a definitive way to know if I can install roms without safestrap?
Thanks for your help!

Install phone info app from play store. If you don't see any reference to mdk...then you have a locked bootloader and can only use safestrap
sent by safestrap powered echo v26
I'm no pro, but I think having that kernel means that you have a mdk phone. I guess you should still check with "samsung phone info" and take a look at the bootloader part. You might be a lucky man
You rock. I installed the app and found this. It seems that I have the MDK bootloader. Perfect.
Thank you!

You are one of us lucky ones. Just a golden rule for MDK users.......NEVER take an OTA update. I recommend vanir ROM if you want to try aosp.

Guys, just wanted to say thanks again. I was able to install Hyperdrive on my S4 with TWRP, just like I used to on my s3. This is awesome. Thanks for everything.
