HTC One M8 - Issues on bootloop & WiFi - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Hello,
I need your expertise help to resolve my phone issues. Hope someone can help. Currently, i am bit panic that my device has become unusable. Please help!!
My problem statement:
1. HTC One M8 is currently in boot loop. It boots approximately around 6 to 7 times and then enters to normal operation. This happens everytime i reboot.
2. WiFi is greyed. unable to "On" the Wifi. Still i can use my data through my SIM card.
One Important information: I DONT HAVE ANY BACKUP. I LOST IT. i kept them in the internal storage and mistakenly wiped the internal storage as well. I am unlucky
Brief of my device:
I bought this device from US. It came with AT&T. I came to India and i was using it without any issues. Howev, it doesnt update at all through Wifi or Data. Hence, with my limited knowledge, i unlocked, rooted and flashed with custom ROM. There the problem started. It got into boot loop and WiFi is greyed out. So, i thought brining back to Stock would resolve the issue and did the Stock ROm flash and recovery as well. No luck. Currently, i still have the boot loop and "WiFi" greyed out.
I used TWRP.

Hi @selva_rag,
Thanks for posting in XDA Assist. I am going to move your thread to the HTC One (M8) Q&A and Troubleshooting Forum as the users there will be much better suited to help you out.

Your firmware is outdated (hboot, radio, etc.) , and does not support any of the current custom ROMs. Broken WiFi is a known result of firmware mismatch; and the boot loops is likely due to the same reason.
Similarly, unless you flashed any but the oldest stock ROMs (1.58.502) you will suffer from the same firmware mismatch issue.
AT&T M8 won't OTA update since you are outside the US and not on the AT&T network (this is a AT&T specific complication).
I would advise to backup your personal data (your phone will be wiped), relock your bootloader (command: fastboot oem lock) then run the 4.28.502.1 RUU here: http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_M8[email protected]50319A_40.45.C33065.00_F_release_426617_signed_2.exe
The RUU will update your firmware. From there, you can unlock the bootloader again via HTCDev.com, flash current version TWRP 2.8.7, then flash a current Lollipop custom ROM of your choice.

This has nothing to do with luck. This is a failure to use good judgement, or follow some basic precautions:
1) You shouldn't be wiping partitions unless you are completely aware of what it means and what the results will be. The "Advanced" wipe section is called that for a reason, avoid using those options if you don't fully understand them. It says right on the default Wipe screen that the default wipe (user data, cache and Dalvik - leaves internal storage untouched) is the only wipe that is needed most of the time. Again, it says that for a reason, and you chose to ignore it.
2) Copy backups onto your computer, to avoid such situations

HI,
Thanks for the help and agree it was my mistake of deleting the backup.
I tried your suggestion. However, the RUU updater just frozen at "Sending 0/6" on my PC. And on the device it stays on the "HTC" black screen itself and no progress shown.
Steps I did:
1. Reclocked the boot loader using " Fastboot oem lock"
2. Rebooted the device in Fastboot USB
3. Ran the given RUU from my PC and followed the onscreen options.
4. It just stays there in the same stage of Sending 0/6 in my pc for more than 2 hours
5. Device is "HTC" Black screen
Am i making any mistake?
Thank you,
Selva

At your own risk, you can try to disconnect the phone, or otherwise kill the RUU. I know it sounds scary, but its not uncommon for the RUU to stall out, then run correctly when you try again. But again, killing the RUU process has its risks; and I won't take any responsibility for any damage that may occur. Although is most likely fine, since its just stuck at "sending" not actually gotten to installing anything; plus it apparently hasn't even started "sending".
What Windows version? Win10 has been reported to be very problematic. I don't know if anyone has even gotten an RUU to run on Win10.

I am using windows 10.
Anyhow, I killed it and got back into fastboot. This time i going to try in Windows 7 PC.
When i rebooted the Devide, it showed ***Security Warning***. But when i rebooted the device, it just gone.
Let me try and update you. Thanks again.

I checked in the RUU log and it is as below. Also, i copied the ROM.ZIP to my downloads folder. Is it possible to flash this ROM.ZIP manually?

Hmmm, I've seen this issue repoorted several times for Win10 (maybe Win8) but don't know if I've seen it happen on Win7.
Do you have USB 3.0 on your ports? This has also been known to not play well with the RUU.

From what has been posted on here, yes. I've never done it myself.
I think you need to rename the file 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on the top directory (not in a folder) of internal storage.

Also, I believe the phone's identifier (FA...) after each line "fastboot devices" in the log you posted, is your phone's serial number.
So you should delete those.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your help. I think the problem is with the RUU file itself. I received a new version of the RUU file from my friend in US. It worked fine in Windows 10 without modifying anything. Now my phone is back with Stock 5.0.1.
Appreciate all your help.

[Q] Help! Failure using Globatron HC Update

Hi,
Sorry to bother with my failure on this but I am here:
"If you encounter problems after this procedure where your device does not boot properly (white screen with HTC logo)"
I have BB WiFi Flyer and followed Part 1 to run the Revolutionary mod. That seemed to go fine and I skipped the ClockWorkMod as directed. Then used the Beginner procedure of Part 2 (ran ARUWizard). In first run I'm sure I saw it clear cache, send, I saw a progress bar mentioning update of Radio. Then it was sending again and taking a long time but I did not want to interrupt it so I left it and couldn't get back until about 6 hours later. Still stuck on sending. The first RUU log only has this in it:

I went ahead and disconnected USB and got a error right away. Recovery in the ARUWizard didn't seem to really do any good. I retried and seemed to get about the same result but the log now has this:

It really seems to be doing nothing on the command (I don't see any kind of progress bar on the Flyer screen):
fastboot -s HT15MJN00811 flash zip C:\Downloads\Software\Android\Roms\RUU_Wifi_B09\rom.zip
The send failure listed I believe coincides with me pulling the USB cable again.
Would I get farther using the fastboot commands directly with the PG41IMG-WIFI-B09.zip image?
I thought I saw a post go by where someone mentioned trouble running from Win7-64bit (which is what I'm using).
I am able to get into HBoot (which is 6.11.1111) and go to Fastboot and power down. I connected a charger and the orange led is on giving me the impression it is charging.
Thanks for the work and any help you can offer to get me un-stuck!
Can you boot into normal Android? It keeps searching for an ADB devices.
Looks like the hboot flashed so you should have hc s off hboot. Can you get into recovery
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
Not sure what you mean by boot normal into Android but I think the answer is no. It just goes to the white screen with green htc logo. Is there something special to make it do what you mean? I have also tried 'fastboot reboot' which boots to the same point.
I can get to the HBoot menu where I see RECOVERY. Is that what you mean by "get into recovery"?
I am a long time developer but have 0 hours in Android so I am still very much a noob.
Thanks.
Yes in hboot select recovery . Does it take you to a black screen with blue letters
Just kill the ruu and run it again.
Sorry for the slow responses. Too many things going on. I will be able to stay with this later this afternoon.
Using recovery in the HBoot menu goes to the same white screen with green letters.
I have retried the ARUWizard a couple of times and it seems to go to the same spot. How long does the overall reflash take typically because it always seems to be just stuck at the same spot sending the image?
This morning I tried:
Booted to FASTBOOT.
Ran:
fastboot erase cache
erasing 'cache'... OKAY [ 0.354s]
finished. total time: 0.354s
fastboot oem rebootRUU
erasing 'cache'... OKAY [ 0.354s]
finished. total time: 0.354s
fastboot flash zip PG41IMG-WIFI-B09.zip
sending 'zip' (655782 KB)...
So should there be a very long pause at this point or should there be some indication of progress? It just sits there.
Looking at the fastboot process, it has a big chunk of memory (~650MB) and is using 0% cpu. The Flyer screen is the black with white htc letters and nothing else.
Ugh.
It is sending a large file. On my hunk of junk PC it takes a long time to send. How long is the pause for you
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
That first attempt with the ARUWizard, I came back 6 hours later to a PC screen still with Sending..... The dots were moving but, 6 hours?
Those later retries I think the log shows I waited at least a half hour.
Should the Flyer screen show any progress?
No that is too long. I do not want to brick your device on you but if the hboot flashed I would assume you could fastboot flash the components such as radio and recovery then flash a custom rom through recovery. I would either
Wait for globatron to respond or post in his thread.

I don't think I can post in the developer forum until I have more posts. So how do I get Globatron's attention?
I guess I'll try posting this a few more times to see if that gets me access.
Sorry for the spam.

I do apologize for this but I am just trying to get into the HC thread so I can hopefully get some timely information.
I hope I have not done this for no reason and I do apologize but my situation is leaving me feel I may be losing out on options.
Very sorry. This didn't work anyway. I still can't post in the developer area.
Have you tried placing the zip on your ext SD renaming it to the specific name that the system will flash and then getting into hboot

[Q] After trying to change MID, can only access bootloader

I was going through the steps to try to flash the Google Edition ROM onto my T-Mobile HTC One using this guide: http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...with-bootloader-recovery-ota-updates-0148068/
I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and gotten S-off. I'm on Step 3, changing the model ID if necessary. I was stupid and was not reading carefully enough, and missed the edit at the top of the section saying I didn't actually need to change this. So I went to the guide he linked to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322820
In this guide, I downloaded the PL83IMG.zip and edited the text file to put in my current Model ID, Cell ID, and ROM version. Rezipped, then did the command he gives:
Code:
c:\sdk-tools>fastboot flash zip android-info.zip
target reported max download size of 1526722560 bytes
sending 'zip' (479 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.247s]
writing 'zip'...

(bootloader) [RUU]WP,hboot,0
(bootloader) [RUU]WP,hboot,100
(bootloader) ...... Successful
OKAY [ 2.401s]
finished. total time: 2.653s
Ok, now as he says in the guide, I saw the HTC logo and a progress bar that was sitting at about 3/4 done. He says to reboot the phone, so I did this. The screen remains blank, I don't get the gray spotted screen he describes. I tried the "fastboot oem writemid PN0712000" command, and it just sat on "< waiting for device >" for a long time, until I finally cancelled the command.
I can still get into the bootloader by holding down power and volume down, but if I try to boot normally or boot into recovery, the screen just turns off and remains off. Also, the device can no longer be recognized on my computer. I get a popup from Windows saying "the last USB device connected to this computer malfunctioned, Windows does not recognize it." And neither adb or fastboot can see that there is a device connected.
So...is my phone bricked? Is there some way I can recover from this? I assume the problem is this HBOOT that I flashed. This is what I'm seeing on my bootloader screen
Code:
*** LOCKED ***
M7_UL PVT ENG S-OFF
CID-T-MOB010
HBOOT-1.39.2000 (PN0713000)
OpenDSP-v32.120.274.0909
eMMC-boot
I do notice that it changed to LOCKED from UNLOCKED and TAMPERED.
Mine followed the same pattern. You should be able to make sure your in fastboot and write your CID and MID and then run an RUU through the fastboot OEM rebootRUU command

HTC One GPE Bootloader Problem...HELP!!

Hi, I just recently relocked my bootloader in order to get some warranty stuff cleared out (I thought I did), but it turns out bootloader didn't have to be relocked. So, I'm trying to unlock it again, but nothing's working. The screen asking me about unlocking bootloader doesn't even show up, and it's not responding to any fastboot commands. Can you please help me??

Please help me!! I have no idea what is going on!! Thanks.
Do you have a custom recovery? If so restore a backup and see if that works.
Are you still s-off? If so, you can use revone to run some commands that will unlock your bootloader.
revone can be found here
If you have S-off the steps will be
1. Download revone (above) and push it to your device: adb push revone /data/local/tmp/
2. Open an adb shell and:
* cd /data/local/tmp
* chmod 755 revone
3. Have revone unlock by running the command: ./revone -u
(Yes, the period before the slash is necessary)

[Q] GPE Conversion - Data Corruption - Cannot Install Custom Recovery, Etc

HTC One M8 ATT GSM Converted from Stock Sense > ViperRom > CM11 > GPE Conversion (Firmware Included)
I have two of these devices mine worked fine when I moved to the Skydragon 5.0 Rom, I installed the firmware, followed the instructions in the thread, no issues. On my other phone this has been an issue.
On the phone in questions it is unlocked, rooted, S-Off. Here are the issues I am experiencing and what I have tried.
Issue: Cannot install custom recovery (philz, cwm or TWRP)
- Tried via fastboot - Reports successful, no change.
- Tried via hboot - Reports Update Failed, Reboot, no change.
- Tried via TWRP application - TWRP crashes, no change
Issue: Any changes made to the phone are reverted on reboot including app updates, installations, progress in media, anything.
Issue: In fastboot usb mode, if I enter the command "fastboot oem rebootRUU" the phone will simply reboot, so I have to try to flash firmware via hboot.
Issue: The phone will randomly reboot.
I have tried:
1. Flashing custom recoveries. (multiple ways, multiple version, multiple types)
2. Flashing RUU (multiple via hboot, all fail)
3. Flashing FUU (via windows) (Stock, Full Wipe, It reboots the phones and then claims no USB connection)
4. e2fsck -fn the /dev/block/mmcblk0p47 - Reports Errors cannot be fixed. I can't do anything with the drive mounted, and cannot access adb in recovery so, not sure...
5. wp_mod.ko ( can insmod while the phone is booted, any changes to the install-recovery.sh are lost on reboot so it does not stick)
6. Tried flashing the partition fix 1.54 splash for the GPE converted devices (again via hboot, failed)
7. Different cables, different USB ports, and every other guides I could find on XDA
8. Tried factory reset from recovery and phone OS.
I have available to me on the phone
Stock GPE Recovery - No ADB shell
ADB access while phone is booted, including root shell
Fastboot access in bootloader, minus ability to access rebootRUU
Here is some data output below, and if I can provide anything else I am more than happy to do so. Appreciate any help you all can provide me on this.

***UPDATE*** I was able to get the phone into RUU mode via this command:
adb -s HT43KWM01872 shell /system/bin/reboot oem-78
So here is the output of my attempt to flash a custom recovery as well as flash the RUU. The RUU flash completes with the failure, but before I am able to re-flash it. The device reboots and I am back into the OS.

I am fully willing to pay for anyone's time in helping solve this, paypal or bitcoin. I am out of ideas.
Ok, have you tried renaming the RUU to 0PBIMG and hboot flashing ? Let me know what happens...the 2.12.1700.1 RUU has stock recovery, so remove it b4 you flash the renamed RUU.

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. I have indeed tried the RUU that way, it will either say "update failed" or it will attempt the update and the phone reboots and I am back to this weird saved state. I had some advice from graffixnyc to try booting from a recovery (non-flased) which I have all cause the phone to reboot and lose any changes. I have also tried the RUU.EXE for the Dev Edition, GPE Edition, Stock and all of them start to run and then reboot and lose connection.
Something on the phone has somehow saved a state that it returns to on every reboot. So you can even rm -rf the entire /system from an adb shell su'd as root. It will delete everything, and when you reboot the phone, its all right back to the same state. You can add, modify, delete, anything on the device you want, but as soon as it reboots it will lose it.
The reboot is what is killing me on every front. The only thing that I found that was odd is yesterday I tried running the RUU.exe for the dev edition and running two at the same time. What happened is the first one detected my firmware as 2.12 which is incorrect, the second one that ran (while the first one was still running) reported the firmware as 1.16 (correct). However while that "seemed" to get farther, the phone rebooted, and...you guessed it... all changes were lost.
So what on earth would allow the device to have this "saved "state" that it returns to? If I delete files via rm -rf then I would expect I am either not actually interacting with the filesystem or it is overwriting it with a saved img from somewhere? Confused as hell by this.
*edit* I even tried DD every partition I could from adb shell and nothing took from a known good stock backup. Nothing took.
Here is the output from trying to run the fastboot commands that graffixnyc had suggested to me.

Tried fastboot booting from the 4 recovery again with supercid, but after each phone screen flash to black the cid was reset to GOOGL001
Tried booting to RUU mode and repeating the commands above, with same result.
Just for kicks I tried adb shell , su, remounted / as rw. Then ran "rm -rf /" (don't do that ever) which ran and deleted stuff until the phone rebooted. Well, guess what. Phone rebooted and it's like nothing happened. Right back to the saved state. Time to jtag this thing?

###
Hi, need some guidance. I live in the UK and bought an HTC One M9 online. Turns out it came from Hong Kong and is the Asia TW (Taiwan) variant instead of the UK version.
I basically want to put the stock rom compatible with UK on the phone - 1.32.401.17 is the firmware I'd like to install. I understand that I'll need to change my CID in order to do this (from HTC__621 to HTC__001); which means I'll also need to get S-OFF on my phone as well.
However, I'm new to all this unlocking, flashing stuff and want to make sure that this is actually possible and I won't brick my phone by doing it.
I've been doing some research and here are the steps I'm proposing to undertake:
Prerequisites:
- Install HTC Synch / HTC USB Drivers
- Install ADB and Fastboot
- Download relevant RUU file, in my case:
'0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_L50_SENSE70_HTC_Europe_1.32.401.8_Radio_01.01_U11440261_56.02.50306G_2_F_release_425571_signed.zip'
1. Download Sunshine and use to get S-OFF on phone
2. Change CID:
Open Command Prompt in ADB/Fastboot Folder
'adb reboot download'
'fastboot oem writecid HTC__001'
'fastboot reboot'
No change required to MID (0PJA10000 is compatible with this RUU)
3. Lock the Bootloader (Unlocked by Sunshine):
Open Command Prompt in ADB/Fastboot Folder
'adb devices' - check device appears
'adb shell'
'su'
'echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 bs=1 seek=33796'
'exit'
'exit' - if needed to get to normal command prompt
'adb reboot download'
Check Locked Status
4. Flash Stock Firmware:
Rename RUU file '0PJAIMG.zip' and ensure it is placed in the same folder as ADB/Fastboot
Open Command Prompt in ADB/Fastboot Folder
'adb reboot download'
'fastboot flash zip 0PJAIMG.zip'
Check Output Looks Right
'fastboot reboot'
5. S-On Device:
Open Command Prompt in ADB/Fastboot Folder
'adb reboot download'
'fastboot oem writesecureflag 3'
'fastboot reboot'
I've pieced this together after scouring the forums and internet. Can you kind people please advise whether this all looks correct and would work. I basically want to avoid having to root my device, I particularly want to avoid bricking it, and I want to basically get 'in and out' again and have my phone set up with a UK compatible rom and lock everything back up!
Please could you look at what I'm proposing to do and give me your thoughts on whether this would work or whether there are concerns I should be aware of before I embark on this project!
Many thanks,
Roy
