S6 Edge Freezing/slow down on intial connection to Wi-Fi - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a new Galaxy S6 Edge and have noticed something odd about the phone. Whenever it re-connects to a wireless access point, every time without fail the phone will freeze up and become almost non responsive for up to 30 seconds before returning to normal operation.
Is this a common issue? has anyone else experienced this before? Are there any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening. This is my second S6 (first one I received displayed similar issues but was exchanged for this one (due to other issues)).

Tried this, not sure yet if this solved the problem, will update if it does.
1. Open your phone dialer
2. Enter *#0011#
3. Select more (top right)
4. Select WiFi
5. Turn off WiFi power save mode(enabled by default)
6. Exit and hopefully your WiFi connectivity issues will no longer be a problem.

That didn't help.

More wi-fi problems

Got an AT&T Titan today.
It seems to have wi-fi problems. I've connected it to my wi-fi network but frequently the phone refuses to *re-*connect to it. It can see the wi-fi access point and shows it with full signal strength but "forgets" to reconnect. When I tap on the connection in the list in wi-fi settings it will usually connect but sometimes will put up the popup saying that it could not connect.
I do not have this issue with any other device on the network (and I have many). I suspect that this related to the issue being reported on the other thread in this forum, that the phone starts to prefer 3G over wi-fi even when wi-fi is connected. There's a similar issue with the Radar.
Anyone find a way to work around this, maybe with some magic settings on the wi-fi access point?
Edit: maybe my AP? I'm trying a different one to compare.
Exactly the same problem here.. Wifi is unstable as hell, when it's been on for some house.. You never know if and when it's gonna connect again.. HTC drivers
No problems with WiFi here. My connection is always stable even when switching to other networks.

Update: I've done a few things with my wi-fi AP and at least one of these measures seems to have helped, as I've not seen the problem since:
* Turned off 802.11b/g/n, turned on 802.11g only
* Turned off QoS
* Changed wi-fi channel to 5
* Added a second AP also set to 802.11g only (same SSID, channel 8)
According to the phone's wi-fi signal strength display I shouldn't have needed the second AP, but with it I definitely have a much stronger signal all over my house. BandWidth shows a speed bump from ~5M to around ~10M.
So maybe the Titan is very sensitive to signal strength? Or doesn't like 802.11n. Or maybe it just doesn't like the Belkin router I have.
I'll be trying this at work tomorrow to get even more data points. I use this thing on GoPhone and so non-reliable wi-fi --> the Titan is going back.
This seems to be a common bug. Mine is doing the same. It can be helped by disabling the data connection in mobile settings while you want to use the WiFi. Not a solution, more of a workaround but it bodes well for a software fix I'd guess.
I think this phone's wi-fi is working but is extremely sensitive to fringe wi-fi signal and/or channel interference.
Since I added a second AP in my house and adjusted the channels to avoid conflicts with the neighbors (using a wi-fi analyzer on a tablet), I have not seen this at home.
At work I've only seen this happen once, and it was near a doorway (where the wi-fi signal presumably is at its weakest in the building).
Mine seems to have developed this problem after installing the latest update from HTC (still on 7720). This happens even with the 3G turned off..
Hopefully it will be fixed in the next update because it is quite annoying!
hard reset makes a difference
so i spent a bit of time with htc support. they recommended hard resetting as others had warned me. in the end i got so fed up with it i tried it and actually the phone is much better on wifi right now. i totally cleared out zune too and reset everything i could think of. one thing i had on before was wireless sync. decided not to bother this time. no idea if it's the culprit but are you guys having problems using wireless sync by any chance?

I have also been experiencing the same issue with the AT&T titan. My old Focus works great. I know that HTC had some problems with the using spoofed MAC addresses and maybe the fix has something to do with it. HTC is a great company, but it seems to take them a few versions to get their code clean.
I manually pushed 7440 to my phone and I am not sure if it is related, but I have not experienced the WIFI issue since. The patch does not mention anything about WIFI and since it is likely a driver issue, probably a wild goose chase, but...

The problem persisted for me too after 7740. Still behaving at the moment after the hard reset. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Guys the definite solution to all connectivity issues, marketplace and sharing issues can be rectified by hard reset. I know in absence of back up apps it might not be the best option for some. But guys that has solved my ever I going issue with marketplace downloads. Also I realised real performance update that came along with 7740 update only after the hard reset. It took me an hour to re add all my 8 accounts, sync back my photos and music and re add my 131 apps but in the end I am problem free and super smooth since last 29 hours. Oh and if you do a hard reset then don't add windows live ID during phone set up. Do it without id and when it loaded, restart phone. After one restart add live account manually. I think that saves some sort of log file corruption.

Hard reset does not solve the w-fi issue being discussed on this thread.
The Titan is very sensitive to signal strength and sometimes refuses to reconnect wi-fi because if that.
My WiFi password key index was set to 2. But I cannot figure out how to make this happen on my Titan (maybe all WP7 device is the same). Yes I can change the key index to 1 on AP but that means I have to reset all WiFi enabled devices.

I've had my AT&T Titan for a couple of days and am definitely having this issue. My wi-fi connection does not hold, and when I look at my phone it is often searching to connect back to the wi-fi network. It always connects, but it doesn't seem to hold the connection. Which means it must also be draining battery? I switched from the Focus, and I never had this issue with the Focus on the same wi-fi networks. I am running OS version 7.10.7720.68. I'm not seeing any solutions here, am I missing one?

What I think is that I have spent countless hours downloading, installing and setting up all the apps I had on my Focus, and I'm still not done, and I really don't want to do that all again less than a week later.
Tried the hard reset. No luck.
Got another HTC response advising that I remove any cases I may have on the phone. Has anybody had any luck with wireless G v. N?

[Q] Galaxy S3 lockscreen hang and also unresponsive blackscreen

Hey guys,
I know there has been a couple of posts like this that I have found through searching but none have actually found a solution, so instead of resurrecting a old thread I thought I would start a new one.
Basically I am having some issues with my new pebble blue (yey) S3 . I have found that sometimes when the phone is sleeping when I press the power button to bring it out of sleep the lock screen begins to hang. This is followed by a number of different things, the screen either glitches for a bit and then begins to work or it stays locked and needs a battery pull. As well as this I've found that randomly either when charging or not and the phone is sleeping it simply becomes unresponsive, staying on a black screen and needing a battery pull to fix (this has only occured a few times, the hanging lock screen occurs quite often).
I have done some searching and found little in the way of a solution or what the problem is, however I have found that when the lock screen hangs -if it begins to work again after glitching out the 'WIFI connected to ****' appears at the bottom of the screen. Anyway if anyone has any ideas or also recieves this problem I would really appreciate some help as it's driving me crazy and I'm unsure if it is a common S3 bug or a faulty handset, in which case I have limited time to RMA.

Hmm, sounds like a faulty phone to me. Try taking it back to get it exchanged for onother one. S3 was built to fly not crawl.
You'll want to go through a process of elimination to figure out when might be causing it.
Something you can try and test with (one at a time)
-turn on airplane mode
-turn off live wallpaper
-shut down all running tasks
-change your lock screen security method
-limit the number of widgets running on all the screens
-reduce the number of active screens
Probably other things you can try to pull out of the equation, but thats a good start
After looking up dial-a-phones returns policy it would seem that I have 28 days to return if the handset is faulty, so this atleast gives me some breathing room to try out any suggestions for fixes. I will begin to eliminate each of the suggested items above however as the lock screen problem is intermittent it make take a day so actually see if it has had an effect, which is annoying at the least.
On another note a numberupted of people are stating high battery life on their devices however mine doesn't seem to be as good and I do have power saving on as well as nfc etc. turned off. This makes me believe my handset could have a fault, but tbf I haven't allowed for a discharge to 5% and the recharging to 100% which I heare allows for optimisation of the battery.
EDIT**** I have changed the lock screen previously and found it had no effect on the problem and I do not have a live wallpaper in use.
Phone Freezing after reboot and auto wifi signal found on.
Same here, been happening the last few days after I installed Avast. Also, turning off and on the auto on wifi seemed to replicate the problem.
The phone will boot to the lock screen and freeze a bit, and sometimes the news ticker freezes, and then after unlocked, I try to turn off wifi signal has been found on the notification dropdown and then tries to auto connect to wifi, the phone will freeze up if I dont turn it off in time.
Once the auto wifi connect is off and reboots, then the phone will keep glitching up until it catches up processing alot of processes it was trying to do for about 1/2 hr. Also, if phone freezes up for too long, like after trying too many time of unlocking the screen while freezing up, the phone gets stuck at the lock screen and the phone almost overheated, in an area right below the battery. I had to pull the battery out to cool it off.
It seems to be a glitch in the auto wifi, especially if alot of resources are being used. Once Avast was on my phone about 1.5GB RAM is being used sometimes and since has really slowed the phone down. Going uninstall alot of apps.

Same problem.
No problem if Wifi is switched off prior to sleep.
No problem if Wifi connection is still available.
Problem to lockscreen if Wifi connection is broken (move away from connected router).
Any suggestion?

Exactly the same here. Driving me crazy. I did root the phone using the Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit. I don't know if the problem also exists on non rooted devices.
S3 black screen after unlocking
Has there anyone experience S3's screen went on black? I have pebble blue S3 - GT-I9300. Cases when unlocking, answering an incoming call or attempting to turn off an
alarm? Mine happens when after unlocking the screen then it goes black and screen becomes unresponsive. It happens intermittently and even after 3 times of
reprogramming. I am now going to have it replaced. I am having a lot of troubles -- it exits on its own when im reading or composing an SMS; files were deleted after
restarting the unit, and an app opens up even not touching the scree. This is expensive and I am paying a lot just to experience this king of inconvenience.

I also rooted my S3 a few days ago (with the S3 toolkit), and have had lots of problems with unresponsive lockscreens (I use PIN, because of exchange connection). It takes a few seconds or maybe up to as long a minute before I'm able to punch in the PIN-numbers. Before this the screen lights up but does not respond to input.
But the WiFi-connection issue might be what is the triggering factor, because after a boot it wotks just fine for several hours, if I'm not moving out of my current WiFi zone. First I thought it was either Secure Settings or Tasker that made my device lock up in this matter, but now as they are both uninstalled, the problem still occurs.
Are you running some kind of custom rom, or just the latest stock ROM, but rooted?

Just the latest stock ROM but rooted. I've found out that turning off the wifi power safe mode fixes the problem for me. To do this:
- In the dailer enter *#0011#
- Press the menu key
- Select wifi
- Press the on/off button.
The wifi power safe mode will however be turned on during boot. So rebooting will set it back on.
*#0011# seems does the trick. But is annoying had to do this every time after power off (change battery, change Sim, flying).... Anyway to keep the setting?
I am also on stock Rom and rooted. Interested to know any non-rooted phone got this problem?
BTW. I found a quick (at least quicker than pull the battery) way to get out of the forzen lock screen (sometimes forgot to do the 0011 trick): press the power button (screen will Dim instead of OFF), then hold the home button for few seconds, as soon as you see the "menu" and "back" button lit up, the lock is un-freeze...
A permanent solution is appreciated for such an advance phone....

Not that I know of.
Problem solved. For me anyway. Hope works for all of you having the same trouble.
My trouble begin with recent upgrade to LH3. My S3 was rooted by S3 toolkit v2.0. CWM installed was v4 something.
I un-rooted the phone. Uninstalled S3 toolkit v2.0. Re-installed the S3 Toolkit v5.0. Rooted the phone again (CWM become v6....).
I do not know it was CWM version caused the trouble or not. But my S3 is ok now.
I got it on my non-rooted phone, any additional solutions/suggestions? or service?
I found solution for problem . And my phone is working well. I downloaded rom file android 4.1.2 and flash my phone
JB 4.1.1 caused these WiFi issues on my phone

Exact opposite for me...never had the problem then since loading stock JB 4.1.1 with root I get lockups or freezes whenever WiFi is turned off or I leave my router's range. As soon as I disconnect from WiFi the whole phone freezes.
The *#0010# also locks up the phone when I turn off the WiFi power saving feature.
None of this happened before JB...and I replaced my phone with week via warranty due to this and the new phone does the exact same thing as soon as I upgraded to JB with root.
Any ideas?
Black screen / random reboot solution
Hi All,
I've had the black screen / random reboot issue for a few days. The only way to restore functionality on black screen lockup was to remove the battery.
I tried changing to Chrome browser and stopping the stock browser as suggested in some threads but it kept crashing.
I searched everywhere and most threads suggest a dodgy motherboard.
For me the issue was related to either a single PDF download via the stock browser or the fact I had quite alot of saved PDF files on my phone (S3 Stock firmware I9300XXELLA)
After deleting all the files listed in Internet downloads (look for Downloads with a green arrow Icon in apps) my trusty S3 has returned to normal. No black screen lockups, no hanging, runs like a dream!
I appreciate this may not solve everyones black sceeen issues but I haven't found any other thread with this solution. Hope it works for you.

Was this happening on JB for you? You mention stock firmware (not familiar with I9300)...so I am guessing it was ICS.
For me the issues are with JB and I had no files at all in the Downloads folder after a certain point when I wiped / formatted the SDCard...so I do not think my lockups were related to PDFs. But I did (and still do) have a ton of music and a lot of movies on the External MicroSD Card....and quite a few custom notification and ringtone MP3s on the Internal SDCard. Next time I load JB I will run it a few days with none of this media loaded....

This is on JB 4.1.2, Phone had been updated to 4.1.2 for about a month. The issues started after a pdf download. Once all pdf's were deleted the handset works perfectly.

s3 screen not responding when wifi on

Hi guys,
I have tried to search for a solution but couldnt find anyone having the same issue....so here goes
I am using a stock Vodafone AU rom 4.0.4 which is rooted......rooted used to remove drop box, navigaton (or something like that) and other bloatware.
However, after rooting - when Wifi is turned on but not connected to any network i seem to have screen issues. No response at all - when i press power button it doesnt turn off just dims, i press it again and screen lights up but yet no response. When i turned wifi off - this issue doesnt seem to happen. Also when i turn it on and connnect to my home network - no issue. Only seems to happen when after rooting + when wifi on and not connected to network.
Has anyone encountered this issue? Any help suggestions would be appreciated.
PS. I have restored factory settings, reinstalled firmware via odin and gone thru all settings on the phone. But under the above mentioned conditions - this issue happens. Seemed with out rooting - phone had no issues for last 5 days.

Annoyance after 4.3 upgrade "Your internet connection is unstable"

Yesterday my galaxy s3 was updated via an over the air upgrade to 4.3.
Since then I am constantly plagued by the notification 'your internet connection is unstable'
This caused problems as the phone then auto switched to my mobile data connection and used that instead of the perfectly fine internet connection from my wireless router.
I have never once had a problem prior to the upgrade and so far searching for the solution has resolved nothing.
Does anyone have a solution?

do you use afwall+ firewall, or something else which can block internet connection?
I had the same problem, but after uninstalling it, everything worked on sammy 4.3

No, nothing like that at all....as I say, it has been fine on both previous versions of the OS..my gf, also has a galaxy s3 and as yet she has put off her upgrade and of course, she is on the same network and gets no notifications whatsoever.
I have tested the router using the phone and it reports that the signal is 'very strong' with a link speed set at 54 Mbps......
This appars to be an erroneous glitch since the upgrade...

After doing some testing I think this have to do with the network security (WEP/WPA) and the DHCP/Static IP config. but it's very random.

This is a warning put by Samsung on the 4.3 ROMs. All you gotta do is to open the warning using pull down menu. Tap on 'Do not show again' and tap on Cancel. That will do the trick. It happens when your Wifi signal is low.
This fixed it for me rather than workaround the problem
Rather than just disabling the warning I found clearing the system cache partition made it work as expected.
-Power the device off (remove and re-insert the battery).
-Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
-When the device vibrates; release only the Power key while still holding the other two keys.
-When the Android system recovery menu displays; release the Volume Up and the Home key.
-Navigate with the Volume keys to the "wipe cache partition" option and press the Power key to select.
-Wait for the cache is cleared. While reboot system now is highlighted, press the Power key and reboot the device.
This is just useless stupidity from samsung in their 4.3 update. It shows the error on any 4.3 sammy based rom and does so due to weak internet connection due to low signals or slow speed.
OK, I've seen a lot of posts in various forums about this issue, but have yet to find a single thread that captures all the details about what I've experienced.
I noticed this issue on my home network after returning from a business trip this week. I'd previously seen the issue occasionally in hotels, etc, and had already disabled the "Passpoint" and "Auto network switch settings". That worked on the road, but now at home, I'm unable to pull any data over wifi.
My home router is a TP-Link Archer C7, running the latest firmware.
Per Verizon and Samsung's advice, I cleared the cache partition, "forgot" and reconnected to the network, tried using safe mode, and tried a factory reset of the phone. I also restarted the router and changed the router's broadcast channels.
Last night, I rooted the phone via Kingo and installed the Jelly 'Beans' rom using SafeStrap, since I wasn't getting satisfactory answers from support. To my surprise, the issue also occurred on the new rom. I'm not an Android expert, but it seems like this means its either:
1) a hardware issue, or
2) a lower-level software issue (radio firmware? not sure how that works)
I removed root and safestrap, to continue support options with Verizon, but I wanted to ping the community here for suggestions. The timing is confusing to me. I'm pretty sure, though not certain, that I've used my home network successfully since the 12/17 OTA update. However, since so many others are seeing issues, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.
Could others describe their issues and router, so we can look for patterns? Let me know if I should move this into a separate thread.

Not really a problem for me, but possibly helpful to others trying to troubleshoot this issue. I have a camera with WiFi capability. I get this message when I connect to the camera, but nowhere else. Based on what I've read, it seems most likely to me that the upgrade has added new parameters to trigger the error message. I just got a S4 with 4.3, so I don't have any other experience with this phone. I never got this error on my S3.
Everything works fine, but I get the stupid message every time. I intend to disable. I hope this helps.

I did the cache clear indicated by another site as well and then used the 'forget' method for both my 2.5g and 5g settings then reconnected with the WEP. Voila! Back online. :good:

-Power the device off (remove and re-insert the battery).
-Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
-When the device vibrates; release only the Power key while still holding the other two keys.
-When the Android system recovery menu displays; release the Volume Up and the Home key.
-Navigate with the Volume keys to the "wipe cache partition" option and press the Power key to select.
-Wait for the cache is cleared. While reboot system now is highlighted, press the Power key and reboot the device.

Thank you kindly for the heads up on how to resolve this annoying issue.
I installed 4.3 a few weeks ago, and more and more have been getting this. Today, it reached a new low: Phone connects to wifi but apps can't use it one the message displays. For example, Spotify tells me that I am offline. Have tried all the fixes, nothing helps.
This is the end for me. I can't believe I am saying it, but iPhone 6 here I come. The memory crap, this, painful lags. I just give up.

A few minor issues with "Albe95 S6 FULL PORT 4.6" but working great overall

First, I would have posted this in the development forum but I don't have enough posts to do that...
I have the NC5 bootloader with SS 3.72 and flashed Albe95 S6 FULL PORT 4.6 to the stock slot after wiping it. First time it booted up it went to a completely black home screen with only the signal, time, and battery percentage showing. Then shortly after it showed a "system UI is not responding" or similar message. Pulling the battery and rebooting fixed this. Overall, the rom has been working great since then despite the following minor issues:
1. Lost cell signal a few times with "no service" message. Last time this happened was a few minutes after a fast reboot and entering airplane mode and back again fixed it.
2. Screen rotate doesn't work sometimes, but a reboot seems to fix this. I should also note that I usually turn my rotate off and only turn it on when I need it, but the last few times it hasn't worked on demand and I had to reboot to correct this.
3. Proximity sensor doesn't work (as others have reported) when on a call.
On the plus side, whereas others have reported problems with their hotspot function, mine has been working great and activating it doesn't seem to cause other issues. I have an android headunit in my car and I use trigger on the phone to activate my hotspot when my phone connects to my headunit via bluetooth, it turns it off again when I get out of the car. So I use it a lot and haven't had problems.
Keep up the good work guys! Let me know if I can help test or help out somehow. I'm not a programmer but I do have almost 20 years of IT experience.
