GPS Is Fixed!!! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My GPS had not worked since last January (2015). I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, but I'll bet this applies to a lot of other devices. I found little help and little hope for ever getting it to work again, though I did get suggestions from moonbutt74 (thanks). I hated the idea of resetting my tab to factory just to see IF it might fix my GPS so I didn't. I did discover the option of buying an external GPS dongle and so I bought a Globalsat ND-105C.
It did not work either with the app that it wanted me to install. So I searched and found a different app. It didn't work either, BUT it gave me an error message that said: CANNOT START, MOCK LOCATIONS DISABLED. So I looked into how to enable mock locations and did so. (Settings/General/Developer options/Allow mock locations...). Lo and behold; my new GPS dongle was working! Then, I unplugged the dongle - and my tablet's internal GPS was also working!
I don't think the external GPS had anything to do with getting the internal GPS to work. I think I just needed to turn on Allow Mock Locations. I hope this helps someone else with the same issue.

GPS Instructions w/ new Rom for TomTom and LiveSearch

Everybody has been stating that they got GPS to work, but only some left instructions. I hope this helps. Thanks to those that gave me advice on how to get this working.
Make sure unter "External GPS" that the "GPS Program port:" has "COM4" selected. Leave "Hardware" alone which is the next tab over.
Then under "Access" make sure "Manage GPS automatically" is checked
Live Search for some reason wouldnt work until I got in my car and drove away from my house. Right when I drove away, the GPS kicked in, and worked as if I had an external GPS. My settings for Live Search are "GPS COM4".
In order for TomTom to work, you first have to get your GPS location in Live Search, then launch TomTom, and then TomTom will work fine as if you had an external GPS.
My TomTom settings are "NMEA GPS receiver" then "com 4" then baud is "9600".
These are the steps i took to get GPS working with the new ROM update using the internal GPS. Havent been able to test the Rev A yet. But it seems everybody is stating that is working fine, but only some were able to get GPS working.
Hopefully this will help you all to get GPS working with the new ROM. W/o me doing these steps, I wasnt able to get GPS working. Also please note that I had to leave my house for it to work. With my Bluetooth GPS receiver I could get a location in live search or Tomtom w/o leaving the house. But for the internal GPS, i had to leave the house.
Have you tried with google maps. For some reason i can get GPS signal in my house with google, but not with live. Also, under the GPS hardware, does yours say none, and baud 9600 or 4800?
Edit:
Never mind, I got it working, live just connected in my house. I have baud set to 4800, don't think it really matters. (anyone know what baud is anyway, and what the best settings are?). I wish there was a way to do this without live though.
baud is just another word for bits per second, its the connection speed of the hardware, since its internal it probably wouldnt make much of a differnce

I have everything working but tom tom 6. It says no GPS device what gives? Do you have to have Live search running in the background for tom tom to work. I close Live Search after aquiring five satellites then launch tom tom 6 and all I get is no GPS device. hehe I know this is a beta and not a release rom. I have no Idea how people can aquire a satellite in their home. Shesh I have a huge solarium and still have to go outside.
what do u mean you get five satellites? Also to answer your question, what i do is after getting the GPS fixture in Live Search, I just click start and go to Tom Tom, without doing anything to live search. It seems to close automatically when I open Tom Tom.
Does anyone know if the GPS signal comes via the Sprint towers or is my phone communicating directly with the satellites in the sky? I ask because getting a signal inside my house seems unreal.
GPS signals come from satellites which is why the signal degrades when you move inside, eventually becoming nonexistent or unreal.
When someone says they are getting five satellites it means that is how many signals their device is receiving and using to triangulate its position. It requires at least four satellite signals to triangulate a current position and the more signals it can pick up on the more accurate the triangulation.
Ks.
when i said "unreal" i meant unbelievable i have a globalsat BT308 (which is kind of old, i bought it in 2000 or 2001) and theres no way i would ever get a signal inside.
so even if i go out of sprint reception area i can still communicate with the satellites right?
For some reason I always have to setup the GPS device in TomTom. It works but as soon as I close TomTom it looses the GPS settings. Then I have to run through the setup again...
Anyone else having the same issue?
My GPS wasn't working at all until I turned on GPS location under the phone menu. Location Settings under services.
Once I turned that on my GPS started picking up satellites with in 5 seconds sitting in my house.
Does Anybody know how to get the GPS to work with iGo 2006? I am having no luck at all getting iGo to recognize the GPS device.
TomTom appears to have a bug where it does not see the port windows gps port sharing is showing because the hardware port is set to none (I think it's actually com1 for the real hardware). As a result until something OPENS the port for tomtom, it's unable to attach to it. Until this is fixed you have to launch some other program that does work first and leave it open for tomtom to open the port.

Theoretically, you should be able to get a GPS signal anywhere in the world.

I understand that they can selectively disable regions now. (read about it in the paper when they unfogged the signals) so conceivably,we wouldn't be able to use our moguls in iraq or afganistan.

I think what they do is place devices selectively in those locations that send out false GPS signals to confuse the NAV devices. (probably from ground based stations or on moving convoys that are trying to NOT be detected)

Has anyone gotten Garmin Mobile XT to work with the internal GPS?
I am going to hold off on Flashing and give DCD some time to mature the release since I already have a G10 bluetooth reciever and have no issues but it would be nice to be able to leave that in my car and use internal when I'm not in my own car.
As far as i know...these are govt sats that are "open to the publuc." In a state of emergency or other situation, they can be blocked or certain areas can be blocked so only, say, certain govts/military could use them. This was the only way the us govt was willing and able to let the gen pop use the sats.

Lost, GPS not working?

Hi Guys,
I've been combing through this site and PPCGeeks for a week now with no success, so I though I ask. I can not get my GPS to work, I'm beginning to think that this phone (VZW Touch Pro) doesn't come with a GPS.
This is what I tried so far. I made sure my GPS setting is set to ON in the phone settings. QuickGPS downloaded the satellite list, installed and ran HTC GPS Tool per the instructions loadshadowz. I've downloaded and install PHM Registry Editor and edited my registry files. I've also downloaded and installed bored's GPS fix. Also read that someone had luck using com3 instead of 4, so I tried coms0-5 with no luck.
I flash my phone with Mighty ROM 5.
Thanks

This should be exactly what you are looking for. I can't believe that no one has told you this yet.

Thank you so much
Just wanted to say that the title of the thread had me laughing to myself for a little while.
I was thinking to myself, "odd that some poor soul is lost somewhere, and his GPS is failing on him, but he had the presence of mind to post on xda-developers to get help."
Godspeed, sdkvang.

Here is another poor soul.
I did the Verizon MR1 (2) update, bought an external GPS receiver, and NO GPS. It appears that I am not getting the bluetooth receiver to pair up with my Touch Pro and I don't see any GPS on Google Maps except when my data connection is running. I keep shutting it off, but it comes back on.
Am I doing something wrong? If so, could someone tell me what it is and how to correct it.
Thanks
After applying GPS Fix for Verizon, you can use internal GPS. No need to buy external one. Verizon locked it out by software means and the receiver itself is inside the phone. You just have to unlock it by that fix and then download GoogleMaps for Windows Mobile device. If it shows you that version for your phone is not available the go to m.google.com using PC Computer and download generic Windows Mobile cab file. Seems like google is unaware that Verizon unlocked GPS receiver and still thinks it's incompatible. Probably because our (Verizon) phones introduce themselves as Raph500 instead of Raph800 as all other TPs.
I myself downloaded MR1 V2.0 release from here and guarantee it works. Just backup your contacts etc since this is complete ROM from Verizon so you WILL loose everything that is on the phone (Storage Card is safe and won't be erased).

[Q] Phone pairing over bluetooth to use GPS

Sorry for my stupidity if that's what is it.
I have connected my PS3 controller via bluetooth without issue and this shows up in bluetooth paired devices fine.
Tried to pair with my desire HD to use bluetooth. Device pairs for a couple of seconds then phone moves back down from the paired section of the screen to the available.
I'm running ICS on phone, tried CM7 rom on phone in case that's the issue but no change.
Tried my partners Samsung galaxy ace and same concern.
All i want is gps over bluetooth and this part is fundamental to getting it working.
Am I missing something here. Please help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483101
Thanks,
But that is the thread i was following.
It is step 5 i am having bother with, phone doesnt stay paired for more than a couple of seconds
1)get Gps2Bluettooth app and put it on your phone. read instructions in there. you will need to place widget on homescreen to activate whenever you want to tether GPS BT connection
2) get BluetoothGPS app and install it on the prime. follow instructions
3) pair up both devices. make sure to enable Gps2BT widget on phone and cut on GPS on your phone. then go into Bluetooth GPS app on prime and make sure that the box that says enable mock GPS provider is checked. then choose your device in connect box. then press connect. it should say connected afterwards. give it a lil and you will see your phone GPS icon in notification area going off or transferring data.
4)now your phone is sending GPS info to prime through BT. you can use the Bluetooth GPS app to see your satellite data or whatever. or now you can open Google maps or earth and it'll get the GPS info and lock on your location. or another other app needing GPS. for some reason I can't get GPS test to show the data. maybe because when I tried I didn't have a lock yet. don't know. worth trying out. but it works with all navigation apps I've tried so far.
very easy n simple setup. I just went into detail to make sure you hook up the right way. works great for me and every time. I use my Atrix to tether GPS through BT. my atrix sees n locks on Gps satellites very fast.
thanks for the reply but i think everyone may be missing the point. my phones wont pair for anymore than a couple of seconds using bluetooth. ps3 controller does fine.
Not sure why, hence i have no phone to select in the bluetooth gps app connection list.
Phones show as pairing and move into the paired devices list on connection screen but then drop down back to available devices as if pairing has failed but i cant understand why, wondering if anyone else had this issue.
Thanks
sounds like a phone problem, check the forum for your phone & rom...
That is exactly what I thought originally, altough my phone connects and pairs with car bluetooth fine.
Switched from ICS to CM7 with phone to rule out rom, now back to GB sense ROM. (Not had change to test latter yet.)
Tested and same scenario on partners Samsung Galaxy Ace.
Will keep trying and feed back.
Thanks all
Just to let anyone know who may experience same issue.
I managed to fix concern with factory reset of tablet, bluetooth somehow wasnt playing right

[Q] Quick GPS Test: Get a GPS Fix and then connect or disconnect to power.

On my phone I lose the GPS Icon in the Notification drawer and I lose GPS signal. then if I turn off and back on GPS using the quick link it comes back. Is this just my phone?
Solved the problem by resetting to factory. Not too painful with backups. I did see this in another phone at the AT&T store so I don't feel alone here, beside the fact that NO ONE WOULD RESPOND!! ;|
I have exact same problem. Have to then off and on while using navigation on my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. But I don't think resetting to factory will solve problem as the problem seem to be with other Galaxy Mega devicesas well. Maybe a software update or some kind of Gps fix would help. Still looking for solutions.
I have been having this issue for awhile now. I have tried clearing the cache, and factory resetting the phone. I got the mega 6.3 to have a bigger screen for GPS for my job, as I am a Delivery Driver, but its more pain then its worth turning GPS Off/On again every 2 - 5min.
What I really don't understand... is my GPS Fix time is very fast (faster then my old SGS3), but then the GPS Icon in the status bar just turns off, and I have to reset it.
There is also no constant in when it turns off... Just today... my first two deliveries... had to reset it about 30 times... but to my 3rd.... didn't have to reset it at all... then back to having to reset it constantly.
It would be easier to explain if there was a pattern... but there isnt.
This has been tested in Google Navigation, Mapfactor: GPS Navigation, and Sygic GPS Navigation & Maps... All do the same thing.
Also does this with GPS Status & Toolbox Running.
Its like gps is being forced off.
So.... Question for anyone who DID have problems with GPS, but fixed it after a factory reset:
Have you disabled AT&T Software? Thats the only thing I have done both times. I hate the AT&T Bloatware they include with all their phones that love to run in the background.
Anyone else have any idea of what I can try to correct this problem
---------- Post added at 05:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:42 PM ----------
Did A test while writing my last reply.
I turned on navigation... and I am not loosing GPS... but... I also am not moving...
So... So far... the only factor in me loosing GPS..... is when I am moving...
This has me confused...
Could it be... for some odd reason... the google location permissions?
I have the same problem....I turn on GPS Test (from the Play Store) and Nav picks GPS up right away. Now, I leave GPS Test running in the background and it seems to help.
GPS sucks
I had this problem and I have seen the power connect version of it come and go. Currently the power connection event does not kill my GPS but many other events do. That being said I have seen this same issue on a Note 3. I played with a number of devices at the AT&T store and several have this issue. I did find an AT&T user forum about the GPS issue on the Note 3 and there are comments on there that the 4.4 update fixed the issue. So I am holding my breath for the Mega 4.4 update to see if that solves the problem too. 'Everyone inhale and hold.......'
My problem is I cannot wait... I guess I will have to use PDAnet to give my Broken Screen SGS3 a connection... and use GPS on her for work... its such a hassle. Why does it always seem to be AT&T Phones

UMI Plus - GPS/Navigation Problems

Hello,
I get a GPS fix within 10 seconds. But with Maps, however, the signal jumps back and forth. Also, the signal does not show exactly the location, or a few meters away. These problems are probably also known to the UMI users. Somehow I have read what of MTK tools, where this problem can be fixed. Can someone post a tutorial, or link?
Thx.
Hi, looking forward to fix the same issue... Any news?

Gday mate,
I was having similar issues with my GPS jumping to the street next to me whilst driving and getting itself all turned around. The other issue I had was bluetooth would not connecting to my car, so I tried a few things on this list: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/fix-nougat-bluetooth-issues/
Specifically what seemed to fix my bluetooth AND GPS was this: (I also set the passcode on the car to '0000')
"This is a really good fix, confirmed to work by many people. To reset your Bluetooth settings, fire up the Settings app, and locate and tap on Backup & reset option. Now, touch ‘Network settings reset’, and then ‘Reset settings’. Confirm this on next screen. Note: This will reset all your settings related to WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile data. Keep that in mind. If you need WiFi urgently, then better do this later on."
The above made my GPS a bit more stable. Since then I have updated the device to the latest beta: PLUS.V3.02_20170208_c239v55_kw_u3_no-DB and GPS is working perfect now. Link from bencebacsi on UMi Forum: http://www.mediafire.com/file/hh1069alx7v8i6i/PLUS.V3.02_20170208_c239v55_kw_u3_no-DB.rar

It's not usable for this problem.
I tested Faster GPS after rooted, MTK tools, Engineering Mode, and another more tools and tricks, and nothing helped me with better gps signal on my UMI plus.
In enginneering mode I deleted data from hot, cold, warm and full gps start without A-GPS started, A set position from detected position, download new satellites positions, then start A-GPS and it was same how before. GPS signal on Mediatek chipset is bad.
Sometimes I have fixed 12 satellites, another time zero satellites. Gps signal jumping from zero to good in the car, or outdoor.
