ZP999 touchscreen suddenly has a dotted line on the bottom - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
A couple of days ago there was suddenly a dotted little 'line' to see on the bottom of the touchscreen. (see photo)
It is 'inside' the touchscreen and not on the screenprotector to be precise.
Anyone know how that may come ?
Perhaps a false screen-cable-connection inside due to a sudden shock by misplacing the phone too hard on a surface ...?
Any possible solutions without replacing my screen would be welcome !
Thanks for the help !

Hi raystef,
have you receive an explication for this dotted line ?
I have the same problem on my ZP999 with 4 point 2 week ago and now 11 !!!
I can confirm it's not dead pixels (test with screen test app).
It is visible on a dark screen only, but it's not aesthetics.
Is there something to do without having to change the screen that costs almost half the price of the smartphone ?
Thanks for us!

No explanation. Never saw this before. Googled...nothing.
Opened device, unmounted it completely. Saw nothing more. No loose connectors. Ordered a new one on aliexpress, 49 euro.

PS : when replacing the screen beware to use the sticky 3M parts that come with the order. These will keep your screen in place. ALSO before sticking the new screen on to the base, replace the stickers from the old screen to the new one (except the big black one is not necessary as i have been told)

I took the top protection off as soon as it came out of the box.
Several weeks later I noticed there was another (Much harder to remove) screen protector. I took this off as it was getting dirty and sctratched. I have never replaced it with anything and I have got no more scratches and never had any issues with the touch screen. i keep my phone in my pocker along with loose change and keys....
I have had my phone for about a year, and had the protector off for about 11 months..it was the best move i made

Cracked glass - what are my options?

Hi, I dropped the phone (it fell from my pocket when I was sitting on the bench in the gym changing room) from circa 30 cm height and looked at the phone and everything was ok - from such a small drop, no wonder.
But by the time I got home I saw a crack forming from the side of impact (the phone dropped "on its feet" - hitting the frame) which went all the way to the opposite side of the frame. It stopped there of course and now I have a screen split in two by the crack running all the way from bottom to the top.
It is visible only when looking at an angle with light background on the screen, but I do not want a crack in the glass.
What are the options here? Where to repair it (preferably in the UK)? How much?
Or is it better to sell it to one the fellows here who bricked their phones (I read so many threads about this here lately)?
Any input is appreciated :fingers-crossed:
the screen works perfectly - it it just the look that is bothering me
I'm in the same position and the device is working fine. As long it isn't visible and everything is ok, why spend a lot of money?
But if you still want to change it, here it is a guide and in OP signature a site where you can buy the kit:

I had the same problem like you. But I had to change the glass / display (they're the same) in the day that my screen stopped working. I bought a new one here in Brazil for R$600,00... that's like aproximatelly US$300,00...

Screen

So my girlfriend dropped her s3 the other night , the screen stays off ( does not light up ) but the touch sensors still work, we can answer calls on it by knowing the approximate location of the answer button, any thoughts on what the issue is ? I would prefer to repair this at home rather than make her pay money through a shop, thanks in advance

It is easy to replace broken GLASS.
but i think you will need to replace screen.
If you purchase assembly of glass, digitizer and screen it will be very easy to replace by yourself.

The glass isnt broken, perfectly clean with no scratches cracks or nicks , it just wont light up;
i had the same problem once, had to be sent to samsung (or wherever) by the shop where i bought it
buying a display and metal frame (obviously you can't buy them seperatly) plus glass would have cost almost the same
i wanted to find out whether the screen still works and it's a problem with my motherboard or vice versa so i unscrewed all bolts to access where the screen is plugged in on the motherboard but i didn't have another s3 to do the same and check it :silly:
still don't know how amoled displays work so it might be possible that whatever's responsible for backlighting the display broke

My thought was that the backlight broke or maybe the entire display system is disconnected , I might just have to take it apart for an exploratory operation,
before it went completely black there was a purple stain which grew until two thirds of my display were purple, the lower part where it started was black.
then i managed to open this samsung hardware debugging menu where you can check for dead pixels by letting your display light up in red, green and blue. there i found out that only blue and green pixels very working correctly in the upper third. the next day every purple pixel was dead.
so 2 months after this little stain appeared my whole display was in the same state as your girlfriend's seem to be now.
so i don't think this plug (it sits in place pretty tight) got loose and that's why it doesn't work anymore.
and my sister had exactly your problem. she dropped her s2 and it immediately went black
she hat to sent it in as well ...
good luck
if you find out what's the problem and want to share it, i am curious about it as well
If possible, check for loose connectors first.
I don't know about replacing the screen. The sheer amount of LOCA makes it a messy job.
Probably the display is dead. You'd need to replace the screen+glass.
There is no back light on an oled screen.

New lg g2 out of the box faint white lines all over the screen, normal or not ???

I have a lg g2 out of the box faint white lines all over the screen, and i'm wondering is it normal or not ? I read a little today that there a 2 kind of screens out there. One screen is ok and the other has these white lines on it. I'm not sure if this is a defect or not. Some say these white faint lines are actually the digitizer visible on screen befause of the fabrication process. Other say that its kind of a defect and should return the product . My question is what is the truth ? is this a defect ? can it get even bad than faint lines in time ? or they will remain just faint lines ? Its not a deal breaker for me just yet , but if someone tells me that this will get bad bad I will return the phone . So please I need some imput
Do you mean those little Squares that make the screen look like a solar cell?
no , white vertical lines from top to buttom all over the screen , mostly visible on a white backround and open colours , they are all over the screen like a pattern , vertical , from top to buttom , very very faint , I can barely see them but they're there
nope, not normal. Faulty display. Send it to warranty. It will be replaced
Mhm. I do not have any of them... I would send it back for return... But maybe it's not bad at all.
Cause I read there a 2 types of panels lgd and jdi , one doesn't have these faint small barely visible vertical lines and the other does mand lg doesn't consider this a defect , that's why i'm so confused ), I've driven 2 a show center and played with one that's on display and I saw the lines also ...diffent store ) weird
Return, Now!
If u have a grid pattern that's normal. If u have two white lines u have a refurbished phone with wrong panel.
Have the same problem. Ordered the phone 2 weeks ago and since the beginning it has a small whitish smudge/spot on the left side of the notification area and 2 irregular parallel lines mid screen, under the first smudge. Visible most of all on a grey screen.
I didnt notice them at first, but in the right lighting at the right angle I can see white vertical lines.
As this is about .01% of the time, I'd say its normal. If you can see them more, send the phone back.
not normal for sure.I got mine replaced for the same problem..

Strange lines / waves (NOT scratches) on the display

Merry christmas to you! ^_^
Today, after 2 weeks, i removed the original screen protector from the display, and noticed some strange big lines/waves on it: three horizonal lines and one wave on the left side. They are not scratches (and could not be) and the display isn't cracked.
At first i thought it was dirty glue so tried to clean it gently with a bit of soap. They seemed to be gone away. But then when i put a finger on the screen, they reappeared and i noticed that they were invisible only when the screen was completely clean and black. Tried again with more force and soap but without success. I searched and found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/screen-coating-issues-t3134029
it's exactly the same problem described here.
In conclusion, as soon as i have time, i will go back to the store and ask for warranty replacement because it seems an oleophobic coating/ screen refining issue.
Has anyone noticed this kind of defect? In my case, it's really evident. Looking more carefully i saw there are at least three more waves like that.
(on the second picture i reproduced the lines i see on the display)
