Lenovo S650 updating, questions and issues - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have quite an amount of questions for my own phone. No one here seems to know how to solve my problems, not even the community in another forum I'm part of.
First of all, I'm using Lenovo S650, Android 4.2.2, with firmware S650_ROW_S305_140820, rooted and removed some system apps.
1. What does S650_ROW_S308_150121 contain? Does it fix graphic issues? I have some apps that show black on parts that shouldn't have. The worst part is everything looks fine at the time of display rotation, pressing Home Button or even a Screenshot. But only for that second. I believe that this update might fix these apps' issues.
Some of the apps that have graphic issues/ won't successfully start: Thomas Was Alone, Mystery Room Layton Brothers, The Sandbox, Monument Valley.
2. I've read that removing System Apps might be the issue. But how do I recover them? Factory Reset? If so, where is this option located?
3. I already tried updating several times but update keeps failing and I already have a backup of the .zip file. But in addition to above, What can Titanium Backup do backup of? Installed apps and saves? Or is there another way to update my firmware without the use of Factory Reset? A Custom Rom?
I hope that someone could help me and fix everything.

[Q] the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly

Gtab- Stock 3358.
Previously I had Stock 3358 and rothnics enhancement pack. I installed an app from the market. As soon as I started the app the gtab screen went blank. Then the TapnTap logo as if it was rebooting then within 2 sec I was back at the home screen. If it rebooted it was a heck of a fast reboot.
then I started getting the error. Everything except stock email and settings work. But the error message pops up every few seconds. I can't go to settings and wipe. So I attempted to install stock 3358. it went fine but problem persist. Still can;t go to settings to check version or do a afactory reset.
Any and all help is appreciated.
+1
I had same problem and after debating the right courses to take, I nvflash'ed the device and started over again.
Still would like to understand that caused that error ?
This usually occurs as the result of contacts in your contact folder with blanks in the name fields. Delete any entries with blanks and you should be good to go.
PS. You will get faster resolution if you search before posting as this has been asked and answered several times in past week.
I have same problem...."The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I went into my google account, deleted or put names in contacts that didnt have names, rebooted and still having problem. I tried going into the data/data file, but there was no data file to delete as indicated on other threads. There is not an easy to find thread for this problem. Please help or at least direct me.
Thanks!!!
I never had any contacts saved. Regardless I cannot even open the contacts folder to add/delete anything.
I am having problems with, email, contacts, settings. as soon as I attempt to open any of the above it gives the FC message and takes it back to home.
On the other hand I called Gtab support. As soon as I told the probelm the lady asked me if I could go to settings. Once I told her no I cannot she said you have to send the unit back for repair. She said that she helped another individual yesterday with exact same issue.
On aside note I was able to delete most of my apps using ES file explorer.
@Bekit @rothnic or other senior members is there any solution beside nvflash. I am a newbie.
thanks.
I had the same problem in February and fixed it by searching this forum and finding pieces to put together a solution. The rest of this message is what I posted back on 2/24/11. I think the important part is to repartition your SD card and clear all user data. I have had no problems since I did this fix.
Good luck.
I have had my GTablet since early December and have been running the Stock Enhancement since early January. I have had no problems except for a very occasional unexpected stop. It was never a real problem.
Yesterday I started getting the android.process.acore error literally anytime I tried to use any application. To my knowledge, I had not installed anything recently that would account for this.
The good news is that I followed multiple threads here and came up with what seemed to be a reasonable solution.
I installed Clockwork and reset the partition to 2048/0 as suggested by several posts. I also cleared everything that I could clear using their menu.
Then I installed NVFlash which I believe put me back to the plain vanilla factory OS. (I also think this wiped out Clockwork Mod but I'm not positive.)
I got the "update available" message and did the OTA update of the OS.
Then I installed the TnT Stock Enhancement update and applied the Market Fix.
Everything seems back to normal now.
I want to thank all of the forum members who posted the various instructions that allowed me to piece together this solution.
I realize that not everyone has the same issues when problems occur so there isn't one single fix that is right for everyone. I didn't really understand that until I had this problem. I feel lucky that I've had relatively no problems.
I have to admit that I'm looking carefully at the Motorola Xoom because I suspect it has a much more stable hardware/software infrastructure but I would rethink that if the Viewsonic folks would be more forthcoming about their plans to support upgrades for the GTab. I can live without 3G if I have stability.
Thanks again to all of you experts out there in xda-developers forumland.
Stuck SD card
I am having the same problem and tried to do the restore from the SD card and now the card is in the slot and I cant access the settings to eject it. to run the clockwork mod is there any way to force it to boot the clockwork mod?
For me, Clockworkmod "wipe data/factory reset" eliminated the pesky force close message about android.process.acore that several of us seem to have. NVflashing & Contacts data field corrections did not work for me. The problems seemed to come up after downloading an app from market.
Running VEGAn 1.00 beta 5.1.1 supplement, and happy!
got this last night/this morning as well. from other parts of the forum i went with the fix of using titanium backup to wipe data related to contacts (believe there were three separate items, contacts, contact synch, and something else). btw, I am running VEGAn 5.1.1.
after wiping the data, everything has appeared normal.
hope that helps.
I called CS yesterday. They help me delete most of the apps that I downloaded to see if that will fix the issue. That also helped in eliminating any personal data left behind in case I have to RMA the unit.
that makes my tablet completely stock. I don't have market any more. So can't get clockwork rom manager etc. Bigger probelm is the onscreen keyboard doesn't work either gives the error message.
I did some reading on how to NV Flash the device. Still trying to understand the process.
I have two options
1. NV flash the device and hope that everything still works.
2. I bought sears insruance. Just return the device and then be done with it.
Any help is much appreciated.
My experience level is limted to flashing stock and enhancement packs using the Power and + buttons.
You don't want to use the clockwork in Rom Manager. It doesn't work for the G Tablet.
Here are a couple other options off the top of my head...
1) cwmod for install from Micro SD card http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
2) Try calkulin's format all http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985705

same thing with me. I downloaded a few apps and then I got it. Did the data wipe thing. Came back in and I am still getting the error. Not happening every 5 seconds, but still getting it.
okay, this is strange. I did the data wipe and I was still getting this error. After doing the market fix and got all my downloads available, I noticed that I am only getting this error when I hit the HOME button.
I hit the Home button and the error comes up, then the Android Market comes up. This only happens now when I hit the Home button. Error, Market comes up and I have to hit the Home button again to get home.
HELP!
only the home button
confirmed. Working on this the last 30 minutes, I am only getting this error when hitting the home button.
@ K J Rad
I downloaded caulkins format all zip. Now this may sound a silly question. Do I flash it like changing its name to update.zip and include the recovery file?
2nd question is if I am able to flash it successfully can I install the stock rom?

Just wanted to say this single step worked for me as well.
Ok. Finally got rid of the problem.
First I attemted NVFlash. After some intial strugle setting up the drivers etc on windows got it to work. Everything worked but still had the exact same process.
B/w I noticed superuser still there. I thought NV Flash will bring it to out of box. Used Bekits image.
After some more reading took the plunge and did CWM internal. Dide wipe data. Rebooted and got it working again.
Again pardon my ignorance but do I have to manually update to 3358. And if I do it go stock would it get rid of CWM. How do i get it off the machine?
I would like to prepare for the OTA.
Please advise.
B/w it was fun going through the process.

Glad you got it working. Installing the stock 3588 update will replace the bootloader and removes CWM. That should leave you as close to real stock as you can get.
Oh, and welcome aboard ;-)

Thank you very much, that was an incredibly painless fix. Worked on TnT-Enhanced v3.1.4b

[Q] Restoring droid to stock

I couldn't leave well enough alone. I am in Europe, using a Verizon Motorola Droid, which was working (although at each boot would say 'unknown SIM - press ok, then it worked). I rooted the phone, installed Titanium, backed everything up and then started playing. I froze a load of bloatware - everything fine. I then downloaded Greenify and hibernated apps I didn't use. It was great. I should have stopped. I didn't. I downloaded Xposed framework, and then the Gravitybox module. Whoops. My phone took on a life of its own. First, my 'phone' (dialler) and 'people' (contacts) icons said 'app isn't installed' when they were clicked. I restored my Titanium backup. No change. I unfroze all the Titantium apps. No changed. I then rebooted, and the phone and contacts icons completely disappeared, as well as my wallpapers and ringtone, to something that my phone couldn't identify. I uninstalled Gravitybox and rebooted. Now the phone no longer connects to the cell phone signal either. I'm sunk, and really need some idea of what to do. Please.......Is there any way of just getting this phone back to some kind of workable order?
Try re-flashing the gapps for your android version. I think Android 4.2.2. And always remember: Make backups. Systembackups with Safestrap for example.

Thanks. I'm on 4.1.2. I have been trying to find instructions and/or a link regarding just reflashing the whole phone to the stock version, but can't find any. Would you know of one? I am a total noob (as evidenced by my thread) - so I am wondering - if I downloaded one of the other systems, like Liquid Smooth or whatever, does that also flash the phone where all the system files are new, or does it build upon the kernel which I appear to have screwed up??
Google should find a flashable Gapps.zip file. If nothing works, look into the firmwares super thread for stock roms or install cyanogenmod.
My mystery is somewhat solved - the upshot being don't leave a rooted phone around a young fella who is just starting to play with computers, as my son has been 'uninstalling' various files on my phone - the effect of which, of course, didn't come into effect until I rebooted, having downloaded Gravity Box. I have been able to find and restore 'People' and 'Phone' through my Titanium back-up. However, my phone is still not seeing my sim - another file that has been uninstalled, I imagine. I would hope that perhaps someone knows the name of the file that allows the phone to see the sim, rather than me having to uninstall all the files. My son says he only uninstalled about 5 files, but does not remember the names. Not a developer in the making!
I also have the problem with the recovery menu, where I cannot boot into it. Would an uninstalled file cause this? I downloaded Clockworkmod recovery, only to be then told that it does not support the Motorola Razr 'Spyder'. Are there any other options? And is the XT912 considered the 'Razr Spyder or is it one of the Droid options?? Thanks for any help you can give.

[Q] Xperia Z Tablet - Bootloop recovery advice

Hi all,
So my Sony Xperia Z tablet is currently caught in a bootloop which stops only if I switch off using the volume up button and break the cycle or as I did the first time let the battery die - great.
How I've got there is as follows: I gained root access through Towelroot (great little bit of tech) and through the No Bloat app took out unnecessary system files such as 'Drive', 'Album' and widgets that I never used. This worked fine and most of my other apps were unaffected. I did however take out some of the files that were oddly named and didn't appear to be linked to anything I used and this did affect some things like FB messenger and the functionality of the tablet as a whole. So...I decided after some time to restore all the system files I'd uninstalled (but backuped incase). It was after restoring everything hoping to start a fresh that the reboot loop started and since I've not had enough time to access No Bloat to question what has caused it.
So I'm wondering what I can do - PC Companion only picks up the tablet for 5 - 10 seconds before it disconnects and I can get through to the tablet during the boot for all of about 10 seconds - not enough time to do anything unless it's within a few clicks!? I have some very valuable files to me (such as 15,000 words of my new novel, photos etc which aren't backed up) and so I'm reluctant to try to restore to factory settings via PC Companion just yet.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what system files might be the cause of the issue or any routes around backing up the tablet if it's powered down? I had the not most recent system update up but one installed...
If you've got ideas then please do let me know? I really don't want to lose my files
Thanks in advance,

99% you deleted files needed for Android to boot/work. Use flashtool to flash the firmware you have (you didn't specify tablet and firmware versions) installed. To save your valuable information you need to perform flashing without wipes.

How can I remove Nabi Mode from a Nabi Big Tab

I've got the Nabi Big Tab 24. I just rooted it last night. After rooting it, I haven't done anything with it. I want to remove the Nabi mode. Can anyone tell me what would be the best method for doing this?

Doesn't it have the option in settings(security tab maybe) for "parent mode" that boots the tablet to normal KitKat?

It does, but I want it gone though. I mean, I can get by with it as it is, but my kids don't play on it and you can't put an SD card in it so it's just a waste of the limited space.

As much work as I have done on the Nabi's that really isn't something I know much about which files should go for Nabi mode specifically. There are some people more knowledgeable then me over in the Nabi2 thread. For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49383966&postcount=2174
Edit: don't actually run that script, it's just an example!
Feel free to ask over there in that thread and link to this thread(we don't consider much off topic over there since we dont have a Nabi forum), one of those guys will probably see it and help out. 2 or 3 of those guys have a good grasp on deleting useless stuff.
I'm currently involved with a similar project. The excessively large screen makes the Nabi Big Tab HD (DMTAB-NV24A) very appealing. The plethora of child oriented features (that are not easily hidden) does not.
I rooted the tablet using Kingo Root. This was a simple process through which I encountered no issues.
According to this thread, it is supposedly possible to install a version of TWRP configured for a similar device and root the good old fashioned way. I did not attempt that and cannot confirm that it works.
The child-friendly interface can be replaced by installing a non-stock launcher. I used Nova Launcher.
Applications like ROM Toolbox Lite can be used to remove any system application, including the many Nabi applications that cannot be otherwise removed. It might be prudent to use an APK extractor or backup utility (this is where it would have been advantageous to have rooted using TWRP), to make recovery easier if you remove something vital to the system.
Remaining in the settings menu, under security, is the option to set Nabi Mode as the mode on boot. When the Nabi Mode and default Launcher have been deleted and this option is selected the tablet will boot to the recents screen, with no apparent method of switching to "Parent Mode". I've tested this a couple times and the only way that I have found to recover from this is to factory reset.
Factory resets do not restore deleted system apps, though the thirty-odd Nabi games are restored.
If anyone knows of a method that could be used to remove the settings option mentioned above, I would appreciate hearing about it.

root access gone, how can I get it back?

I rooted my S9+ following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/how-to/guide-root-s9-oem-fix-t3763974
Since I tempered with some files in the folders data & android and a few others the root access for the modded camera app from zeroprobe says: „check root access“ and it won’t work properly.
In twrp boot mode, I tried wiping and all the apps I previously installed were gone, but upon reinstallation of said modding app the problem remains.
Is there a specific folder I should wipe or how would I go about starting from scratch?
And no, I didn't take a backup yet... (at least not on this phone, but on a second S9+, could I use that one?)
got it working again. As so often when assuming something, the problem was apparently not that I copied some files around. It seems that I needed to start magisk at least once. After that it worked. The modding differs slightly, maybe due to an update of the app. Just guessing here, but at least i got it working.
