If you're using the developer ROM (which is rooted) you can use Flashify (free from Play Store). I've used this method, though I haven't actually had to flash it back yet, so I've no idea if it was backed up correctly. To clarify, Flashify provides the option to back up the whole NVRAM.
Alternatively, you can use SPFlashTools via a PC. Check out videos by Damian Parsons over on GizBeat and ChinaPhoneArena. The videos are available on YouTube. You can use SPFlashTools to do a variety of things on your PC. It's well worth a look, though make sure you get a version which is compatible with our newer MTK chipset.
Thanks for the reply.
I initially flashed a twrp that did not have NVRAM backup.. But later in found a version of twrp with NVRAM backup.
The reason you need to backup NVRAM is that you could lose your imei when flashing roms.. It is an old habit to backup everything on the phone to be on the safe side

Trying to flash a rom my sons phone and I'm new to his phone. Its seems a bit more hairy than mother galaxy's. So how do I backup the efs. Tried the command in terminal emulator but inhave a feeling it doesnt work there. Andromizer should but doesn't show the tool. Thanks in advance.... also wanting to do this to show him how to flash a rom.

The app Galaxy_S Unlock will back that up for you. You dont have to unlock with it either to backup/restore the EFS folder. Just use Step 1 and the bottom Restore if you have a problem.
Is it common for people to back up their EFS folder when flashing a rom? I never do.

I guess I'd read its a possibility. Shomam says to do it before flashing and I hadn't the first time.

I used ktool from the play store (must be rooted first). I only backed it up once though. I don't think it changes, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Just did it as a safety precaution based on some stuff I read on a few how to threads.

Its a backup that will restore you phone to exactly the way it was when the backup was made. The ROM, apps, settings, everything.

A nandroid is kinda like making an image of a PC using Ghost (if that helps at all).
You should make a nandroid when:
- You love your build/configuration
- You getting ready to flash a new ROM
- You gonna do anything unfamiliar
It is your way back to a working and configured device.
Ex...
I want to flash romX. Boot into recovery, make a nandroid. Do my wipes. Flash romX. Reboot. Play with new from. Find out I hate romX or its missing a feature I love. Fine. Reboot into recovery restore my nandroid. I am now back where I started...with my phone as it was before I started.
Ti (titanium backup) is a great tool. Yes, it's confusing.
1) buy the pro version...it's worth it
2) don't restore system apps (someone else can perhaps correct me or explain this one)
3) if you move from one aosp rom to another you can restore your user apps and data...this can save you a lot of time.
Oh yeah....ALWAYS keep a good nandroid copy on your computer. If your really frell things up and wipe everything or if the files get corrupt...you will be happy you have it.
Don't feel bad, there has been some weird twist and turns on the dev of this device. It was much easier on my old EVO4G. THE LGOG has confused me several times as well.
Good luck.

Hi,
I just tired to do a backup of my EFS Partition using the EFS Pro tool.
When I connect my phone using the USB cable after starting EFS Pro, nochting happens. It seems that EFS Pro does not recognize my Phone.
I can use the Windows explorer to brows trough it, so it's defniatly connected.
Ideas ?
Do u have usb debugging active?

activate USB debugging as said.
otherwise certain recoveries also can do EFS backups (I think Philz can?)
Sorry, should have said.
I have USB Debugging turned on, the build in SuperSU is set to allow Applications and ADB + I got BusyBox (free) 1.21.1-jb installed.
Not sure what Philz is.

Philz = custom recovery, you should have at least heard of it when you are playing around with custom roms . otherwise refer to the guides and philz thread for more information.

Ok, I'm checking this now, but what is wrong using EFS Pro ?
Sorry one more question.
I did go into the Recoverymod and selected Backup. This created a 2,x GB folder on the internal SD card.
Is that all I need to recover in case on emergency ?
If so, I had that covered with the koush's ClockworkMod Recovery mentioned on the CM wiki already

first of all, there is nothing wrong with using EFS Pro, was just showing you other tools available.
the backup you did (2GB) should be a nandroid, if I am not wrong, this does not yet include the EFS backup. But I might be wrong.
Nandroid does not backup EFS unless its an option .

as we said, EFS backup tool like EFS Pro or some custom recoveries offer an option to do the backup from the recovery.
Start here, there is a list of tools!
EFS Pro - App needs root
SGSIII EFS backup / Restore - app runs from Windows / Linux and needs root
kTool - app needs root.
Philz advanced CWM rewcovery - custom recovery can take efs backups using the "Custom Backup" feature.

Before messing around any more and getting myself in trouble I thought it would be good to backup the EFS.
The only thing is I only see references on backing it up for the N7000/7001. Will the EFS Pro Backup or Samsung EFS Backup programs work for the Verizon version?
Thanks

Sorry, probably should have given you more information.
Anyways I'm new to the Note 2 and bought a used one that was already updated to 4.3 and therefore can't install TWRP onto it.
I did already get it rooted and figured out how to get into the hidden menus. So before messing with those, which from reading the settings in the hidden menus are stored in the EFS. So I wanted to make a backup in case as from what I am reading that EFS is where everything specific to your IMEI and such is stored, so you really don't want to mess it up.

Ya, mainly I just wanted the ability to turn on or off 4G service. If I am up in the mountains and know I won't have 4G service then I can turn it off to save battery life.
I did find the option under CDMA->COMMON->Band Pref->CDMA Only. To bad I have to restart to set it though as my previous phone the Droid RAZR Maxx could change it on the fly.
I did find one other good setting and that is to turn off WIFI sleep. I wondered why it kept disconnecting from my WIFI if I left it off for awhile. I use llama to turn off my pattern lock when connected to my home WIFI and I was wondering why it kept re-enabling on me at home. I truly hate that it is defaulted on most WIFI cards, even on a PC it generally is defaulted to be able to sleep.
Figured it out myself, but in case anyone else has my same situation of having a locked bootloader with 4.3 OTA with root access and want to backup all the important data, including EFS/RADIO/TOMBSTONES/ETC.
Then use the Tool EFS Professional from this thread: CLICK ME
I had to update my BusyBox to 1.22.1 as I tried both 1.20.2 and 1.21.1 (this was installed when root access was done). In the older versions it was failing at creating the archive at the end after copying the data.
I've uploaded a backup of the stock (rooted) system here: https://www.mediafire.com/?wr9f2n41ig4o8qb
And this is the link to the stock (unrooted) system here: https://www.mediafire.com/?p7iabx8g90exe14
Feel free to get flash happy now that a stock backup exists! To use it, first create a backup (of boot to make it quick) in TWRP, then copy and paste the zip's contents into the folder it creates. It'll have a TWRP/Backups/gibberish/ and in the next folder a list of your backups. If I missed anything let me know. I'll upload the unrooted backup sometime later this week. I used this to restore my defective one to complete stock.
EDIT: To restore system to full stock... (Uninstalled apps, no root, etc)
1) Install TWRP as per here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790542
2) In TWRP, create a backup of your boot partition
3) Reboot
4) Copy the folder in this zip to the folder in TWRP/Backups/SERIALNUMBER (you'll see another dated backup there)
5) Reboot into TWRP again
6) Restore this backup, then flash or install SuperSU
7) Reboot into Android and download this stock recovery image to its storage: https://builds.casual-dev.com/files...ery-dd-pull-15jun14-KOT49H-build201405027.img
8) Run this command (courtesy of Adam Outler) from a terminal emulator, or adb shell (replace STOCKrecovery.img with the name of your stock recovery file):

If I find TWRP, I will certainly let you know. There's not much you can do with this device and TWRP right now besides make and restore nandroids (which, admittedly, is pretty damn critical).
Well, as soon I have access to all files and what steps that I have to do to restore back to factory then I was thinking I was going to go look at it in the store and buy one but I would never buy one without the ability to restore to factory .
