Look at mine. I have that version and get 5 days of battery life.

Jesus Christ, how are you able to get 5 days of battery?? Most of the time is spent on cell standby, is this usage based on 'average' usage?

Actually I used it slightly less than usual. About ten percent less. As a result I got insane battery life. I also am rooted with a debloated custom rom

Ah so you have tripped your KNOX counter? I'm still really cautious of rooting because of this. Is it really that big of a deal or am I just over hyping the whole thing?
What rom are you running?

I have NOT tripped KNOX.
I rooted with PingPongRoot, installed Flashfire, used Flashfire to install the ROM.
Flashfire allows you to flash zip files, as well as do other things, without the usage of a custom recovery.
The ROM I am using is ESL v2.1
I will leave a link to the thread below, as well as a link to the Flashfire thread.

If I no longer wanted root I would update to 5.1.1, but I am still on 5.0.2
I believe that without root My battery would last up to 1 day instead of 5

Yup, thats approx what I'm getting. I just got the phone a couple of days ago and unknowingly updated to 5.1.1 before looking on XDA for a root, and with this being my first time using Samsung I was unaware of this KNOX 'barrier'. I guess I'll just wait for some way to root without tripping KNOX or I guess possibly this will be my first stock phone experience but I am somewhat disappointed with the battery life.

Lool! All smartphones have a decent battery life, nothing amazing. Not really an issue but you do have to tweak your phone a bit to get the best out of it. Like kernels and freezing and removing something useless things . Hope i helped.

for the time being yes. stick with official updates. then while you stick with official updates do your reading. take your time and read through out the threads. and when you feel confident enough to root then go ahead. but for now i suggest you stay stock.

i dont quite understand the ppl who buys android phones and doesnt modify it... i mean the only TRUE difference between iphone and sgs2 is powered by iphone iOS and Android.. which is open source... the other difference doesnt really matter much.. processor ( yea its more powerful but duuh.. there isnt much things to do that really require that much power) or the screen (duuh iphone has abit better screen so what? if u dont look closely u wont even see difference(atleast not me)) so yea if you gona buy sgs2 i RECOMMEND you to do alot of flashing and rooting and play with it around
WITH BACKUP of course... especially the EFS backup
It all depend how you use your phone. Sometimes I it for hours on end and go through 2-3 batteries a day (I have 3 spares).
Today I used it very little. About 7 phone calls, 2 messages and only about half an hour browsing / xda etc. Currently on 85% after 18 hours.
So usage makes a massive difference.

do you think is there a need to change the Kernel version ? or just do the official update and it will be fine ?
Definitely stick to official updates. Regardless of what anyone might tell you, it's a fantastic phone running stock firmware. And if you're not confident about flashing custom roms/kernels (there's a small risk everytime you do it that things might go wrong/you might brick your phone), definitely stick to official firmware.
At the very least until you've done a lot of reading on here and are confident to try different roms/kernels. If things do go wrong, it might take you a few days of research on here to work out how to fix your phone (which means you won't have your phone working for that time), and at worst you'll have to return it to Samsung for repair. Which you'll probably end up paying for as running custom roms/kernels voids your warranty.
So slow and steady, stick with stock for a while and read. Then read some more. And when you're done doing that, read for another couple of months.

Sorry but got to disagree, yes its a great phone as stock but with custom ROM and kernels its an amazing phone. The devs here have done some amazing work. BUT (and its a big one) dont do a thing till you've researched your arse off, and you understand all the risks of what your doing.

Latest stocks have been fine, even stock kernels have shown improved battery life. But with a custom rom/kernel combination your setting up a phone the way you like it with many ways of tweaking it.
If you do buy one, update to latest stock, try it out, if your not happy then root and enjoy.
My post was an attempt to persuade the OP to stick to stock should he purchase an SGS2. The last thing we need on here is yet another " Hlap mai fone broked !" post :-/ (and everything that goes with it).

My wifi and GPS are on 100% of the time. I never turn them off. Today, 23 hours since charge and about 2 hours screen time and battery on 69%. But 3g is off (2g only) and no email sync.
Yesterday, heavy usage and went through at least 2 batteries.
BTW, since I got the s2 I've only ever used cf root kernals. Nice and stable for me and the closest thing to stock. Others claim increased performance or have over clocking etc don't interest me. I believe the phone doesn't need them. Also using Checkrom. On the S1, well that was different.

batteries are horrible on these phones

Had a note 2 and just got a s4 and I gotta say the battery goes fast on this thing..I had bought spare battery and charger for the note and hardly ever used it..I am definitely going to have to get it for this phone...anyone had any feedback on the wireless charging with the pads? how do they work?

Go BoneStock rom. I used it on my S4 and got 5-6 hours of screen time on it regularly. You just have to learn how to control your apps and phone to sync properly and keep background data for apps in check so you don't get needless wakelocks from crap you don't care about.
GS4 dev edition. Hyperdrive rom rls 14. Over 23 hrs with 3+ hrs screen time. Stock battery.

You're sill on 4.4.2 i think with MK2 so you'll have to go with BoneStock 1.4 or earlier since you can't use a ROM with different Kernel then you have. That is why you can't use CM with SafeStrap unless they ever get Kexec working.

I think MK2 is still 4.3 Jelly Bean. Pretty sure safestrap and HD 14 will work. Probably if Bonestock has a 4.3 version and is TouchWiz based (as opposed to ASOP) it will work.

Man I get great battery life with mine. I do have the MDK bootloader, but mostly I think it's just an issue of not using up battery from useless things being on. I've tried to help several friends over the last couple years, but they always have all this crap on their phone running every time I check them, and they wonder why their battery doesn't last long. I've gone days on a a single charge. With heavy use I can get 8+ hours of screen on time. Maybe I've got a really good battery.
Note 2 was my last phone as well. No matter what ROM or setup you use you won't get the same battery life. After all, I would assume you had custom ROM's on the Note 2 that helped extend that phone's battery life just as much as they will on this phone.
Note 2= 3100mah, 720p display, A9 processor cores
S4= 2600mah, 1080p display, A15 processor cores
Not to mention the screen gets like 100 nits brighter on the S4 and Samsung has really borked their auto-brightness values on this phone.
My suggestion, if you don't use NFC, is to get the ZeroLemon 3000mah battery to swap out with your stock one. It's the same size, just removes NFC from the battery (I know on your Note 2 the NFC receiver is on the back cover, but it's in the battery for the S4) and adds 400mah.
Or if you don't mind the bulk then get an extended battery, especially if you're going to get a rugged case anyway. There's multiple solutions to fit an extended battery into a rugged case without adding bulk.

Damn, that's a very helpful reply, as I've never even considered a different battery since I've had no problems. But I don't use the NFC, and an extra 400 mAh will always come in handy. I think I may just get one now.

I use an Anker 5200mah battery and it's great. Its obviously bigger and josh's recommendation is going to be better if you don't want it a little bigger. I can say also that there are a lot more options case-wise too at least on amazon.
I've not once had to charge this phone during the day with this battery. I'm a heavy user too...GPS most days, music, internet etc. I've had this battery for about 7 months now and haven't even noticed a decline in performance.

Horrible battery after lollipop OTA

So the wife took the lollipop OTA... Since then she says her battery life is incredibly horrible. After only one hour of normal use it went from 100% to 35%
The biggest problem I'm having is figuring out what I can do. Typically I'd have rooted the phone, flashed a ROM & never worried about OTA. With that being said, she doesn't want her phone modified whatsoever. She wants it left completely 100% stock...
Anything I can do?

Verizon says ...
The Verizon info about the update, mentions that it may take several days for the new release to properly calibrate battery usage: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/instructions-lg-g3-4-14-15.pdf
Battery life expectations post a major OS upgrade:
The application memory areas may have to be optimized. This can take time and cause the device to temporarily use more battery while the optimization is in progress.
It can take time for the new software to optimize its performance and for the device’s battery life to normalize, which generally takes 2- 3 days.
Downloaded applications may not be optimized for the new OS version as application developers do not immediately update their applications to support new versions of the OS. This may result is higher than normal battery drain and in some cases device sluggishness until the application is updated or removed.
download greenify, works with not rooted phone too.
I was hoping to not use an app for it lol.
But I talked her into letting me root it so I'll just be doing that tomorrow.

Should root this phone?

Hi guys! I ordered the oneplus x yesterday and it is coming in tommorow. I am coming from the nexus 5 ive been using it for 2 years and i flashed the heck out of that phone until the motherboard died last month lol. So the question is should i root this phone? Will i lose some functionality of some sort? Is it better with custom roms?
Any help on this will be appreciated!
Well, the only thing you will lose is the Ota features... (Over the air updates)

Okay cool, i know about that. Thanks anyways
Yes you should since OOS get almost no updates and custom roms are working great !
I've been debating the same thing coming from the nexus 5 which just died. Even after replacing the battery, it just won't boot anymore. I'm actually quite enjoying this Oxygen OS. I've only been using the phone for 3 days, but it has enough customizations that I don't think I need a custom rom. It allows you to customize the battery with percentage, and has the custom reboot menu out of the box.
The only thing I'm contemplating root for is adaway, as I hate surfing the web and seeing all these ads and perhaps the custom kernel to get more battery life.
I'm getting tired of boot loops and troubleshooting the phone because of something I flashed I'm going to see how long I can stay with an unmodified phone this time around.

I was tired of the bugs too, tried to stay on the same rom for 1-2 months but there were always issues no matter what. Lets see when my phone arives tommorow! I am expecting better battery life from opx as the n5's battery life sucked xD even with elemental x.
Do you think opx is better in terms of daily usage than the 5?

I was a long time Cataclysm + Elemental user since I got the phone in 2013. With the custom kernel, I was able to easily go a full day without charging. I found all the problems with the N5 began when I upgraded to Marshmallow. LP never had all these issues I experienced. Currently OPX on LP, after 3 days the phone is running very smooth, no issues at all and the battery lasts a full day as well so I currently have nothing bad to say about this phone.
I just updated to 2.2.1 this morning, as the phone came with 2.1.2 from the factory but I wanted to ensure I didn't have any problems before upgrading the OS. But for me, I'm very happy with the OPX right now. I think it's more than suitable as a daily and there isn't much I miss on the N5.

Instruction for Android 6.0.1 and Exynos Note 4

I've been using Greenify for some time with pleasure but not sure I'm doing it efficiently and my device and OS is getting and getting old every day and although I used a heavily debloated version of stock ROM (Simpl ROM) my battery seems to lack of performance lately. So I need a real deal instruction to get maximum efficiency since I don't want to change my phone. I'd really appreciate any help for fine tuning in Greenify.
Not: Note 4 with stock-based 6.0.1 Simpl ROM and Rooted with SuperSU. Also, I installed Space Lemon kernel.

Everything gets old and dies including the battery in your device. Greenify will not save you from that fate. Nor will it substantially improve battery endurance on Android 6+ assuming your app portfolio is well behaved. Make sure 'doze on the go' is enabled in Greenify. The remaining knobs and dials will only yield minor benefits.

Of course; missed the point. . Seriously consider a new battery which is both economical and easy to install on your device. Greenify is not the answer in the absence of clear indication of app misbehavor.

My battery is six months old. Do you think it's old enough to change?

After market batteries are often not fresh and/or do not meet OEM specs. You should understand what is draining the battery before pursuing a replacement if a recent change made little/no difference. There are numerous XDA threads dedicated to this subject.

I had changed the battery twice during my usage period but I always bought it from the official Samsung service store. However, I decided to decrease the number of apps installed on my phone. After that, I try battery life again.
