Sony Xperia Z ultra STUCK ON SET UP - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I got the phone today. Set it up for my girlfriend who is going to use the device. Everything is working as it should except that every time she hits the power button or the phone sleeps automatically , a Sony Xperia logo appears and RESETS THE HOME SCREEN AND THE SETTINGS. I have no idea why its doing this and since its the first time in a long time that I had any kind of issue with a phones software, I don't know what to do.
I will be comfortable doing any kind of custom rom update if it's necessary and if there is a complete guide on how to do it. But I rather keep it stock for her.
There is a promo video playing over and over again after I press the power button....
I may got a display unit of some sort? I bought it off ebay so I don't know where it originally came from.
Thank you for the answers!

Sounds like the demo mode is enabled. You can delete the APK from system/app or system/app-private (or by using Titanium Backup). The APK is named "demomode.apk" or something like that, and it should in theory stop after a reboot.

Yes it is definitely in demo mode but I didn't find any "demomode.apk" or anything resembling to that. I have been searching for hours on the internet and I have found a code that if you write it in the dial pad it "should turn off demo mode" (*#*#73556673#*#*)
The code works partially (and by partially I mean the promo video doesn't show up when in sleep ON BATTERY and as soon as I put on the charger, it automatically plays the video again no matter what I do.) and anything I found relating the code is that it works for Sony Xperia Z1 perfectly but it didn't say anything about the Ultra.
I am really getting fed up with this considering that it shouldn't be in such state and it's such a PAIN to remove.
Thank you for your suggestion by the way

I found this thread over at the Sony forums. It's about the Z Tablet, but there are some useful suggestions there

Thank you for your help.
I checket the thread out and several others and no matter how many code I entered I would get nothing done. So I installed the Sony PC Companion and did a "Reapair" which did a re-install of the current android, which also did nothing. I was on the edge of putting a custom rom on it entirely but I wanted to try something that is at least half decent or official. So I re-intsalled the stock firmware with flashtool. I don't wanna jinx it, but it seems to be working...
BTW. I got the links but I can't post them here since I don't have 10 post already

Some quick Qs about some niggles etc

Right, ive had the x10 since launch, and finally my carrier has seen fit to upgrade to the latest firmware (just as i was about to do it myself and void warranty hurrah).
Theres one thing specifically thats really bugging me, i cant seem to find an easy solution to going straight to my pictures. A 1 click link to the gallery if you will. Have to mess around in media scape. Any ideas?
Secondly, i cant seem to select all my tracks to play on shuffle anymore, so either i forgot or they changed something with the update (i havnt used my phone in a few weeks as i have been out of the country).
Thirdly, is there anyway to force the camera to open the moment you push the camera button, rather than having to press it for a few seconds?
Finally, i used to have shapewriter, which i LOVE. I cant get it anymore because of the takeover. Its really infuriating, i would happily pay full whack for it but they dont sell it either! Does anyone know where i can get the non expiring apk?
Thanks.

Anyone know if this can be done?
hello..
I deleted it from my Nexus 5 and the phone crashed overnight. The screen went black. You might call it soft bricked.
Fortunately comma I flashed it the next morning using the Nexus root toolkit. My preference would be to name the developer of that miraculous program because he deserves all the accolades for it. Unfortunately comma I'm unable to at this time.

JXD P1000 (previous P700). Can I root it?

Hello.
I have bought a JXD P1000 by eBay.
It works perfectly, but I can't associate my gmail account and no I have not access to the official google play.
I have read that I can solve it changing some parameters in ES Explorer (r-r-r), but I can do it ONLY if my device is root.
Is there any way to root it? does anyone have this device?
Thanks for any help.
I just purchased the jxd p1000 too. If i have this problem too i would like to know as well.

Hey how is the device? How is the wifi speeds? I had a lesser known brand that over all worked pretty good but the wifi speeds were horrible. Download speeds capped at around .25 mbps! Not even close to 1mbps. Uploads were about double that. I hope its not the same with this one. Do you use a sim card on it?

I have the same issues apparently it is an issue with google's not being allowed in china. I have to say that although this device choice was done with great evaluation after seeing all the specification i quite fell in love with the item. so i called the sellers including pandawill, umitablets and another web seller which escape me at the time of this writings. And being from the US i Specifically asked would google would be implemented and i was told google play was already pre-configured and that is where i was sold and also where i was suckered. so let me tell you having bought the bloody thing i sought help first with the nearby stores and as soon as i mentionned the device and where it was purchased .... Btw another issue you will have is getting the drivers that would allow you to work with your PC. I did find it but now I am scared to root cause i don't know how to do it and afraid to have a 200 dollar brick. So lesson learned i give myself less than 3 months to get it straight otherwise i will leave with its shortcomings but i will definitely champion never EVER EVER buy chinese devices cause #1 misleading #2 support non-existing #3 not worth its weight especially when their own countrymen is telling me sorry its chinese ... that is when i totally felt like an idiot ... so unless you hear me fix that issue please stay away from that device cause until they fix my issues i will warn everyone to stay far from it. Do not worry, we have a solution!!
Finally I entered the JXD website and I downloaded the latest firmware for the device.
Inside the file are the instructions to update the tablet and drivers to connect to the pc, but I did not work for me these drivers, so I had to look for other drivers on the Internet (I have no permissions to paste links, I have very few messages in this forum)
I hope this can help you. At least my JXD P1000 is already running at 100% with all Google applications.
Good luck!!

I just followed the steps in the downloaded file (word document). It's very simple. Sure is better explained that if I try to explain, because my English is not good and it is possible that I confuse someone.
Only one possible problem ... If your pc does not detect the tablet with the drivers provided by JXD, then as I said, you have to look on the internet: Simply search on google "mt65xx android phone drivers"

hello,
I am a beginner, I do not speak very good English,
I can not configure my tablet JXD P1000,
I try to download the firmware, JXD English, but I can not do
how to install the play store on my tablet or switch to root mode, Please
I also have bought a JXD P1000 in Vietnam. It looks working almost perferctly except GPS.
Problem I had in using GPS is, the satellites are caught but the present location won't be fixed forever.
So google map doesn't show exactly where I am, and it's useless at this moment.
I found similar problems in tablets using MTK6877(?) posted in other bbs. MTK6877 is said to be a brother cpu to this MTK8377.
The solution introduced in that BBS was to put a file named GPS.prop(?) into under /system folder. But it needs root.
So, what I want to say is, are there anybody facing a similar GPS problem?
Or other help or suggestions are appreciated.

As for me, I didn't realize that wifi problem with JXD. It might be because of using power saving apps.

Well i havent downloaded any power saving apps. Well now the gps is spotty. It was working fine for a while but suddenly stopped. I used the gps status and tools app (i think thats how it is called). Also messed with the native gps settings. The wifi problem im having also happens when im using it as well. So basically at any moment it can happen. Very annoying.

Possible reason:1. If you use UART1 to download DA, please make sure that you have selected the correct UART1 COM port first!2. USB driver is abnormal, please restore them, and then try again.

I got the upgrade done yesterday. What i did is first connect the tablet to the computer, for the first time, and have it automatically install the drivers, once successful, i chose to install the ones provided in the upgrade file in the jxd website. I got an error saying it wasnt installed proerly on one of them but when i reconnected the tab it connected fine. So i decided to go on with the upgrade process from the word doc in the zip file. Pretty simple like the other person said on this thread, though i did try like 2-3 times before it began. Once it started was smooth sailing. The upgrade made the tab better. Gapps work fine, except i cant install google shopper for some reason. Everything else is pretty stock android with all the google services working. I have yet to see if the upgrade restores gps, so when i do test it out pretty well they ill give my results.
Update on my wifi problem: it seems it is only happening on my portable hotspot only. While on my home wifi it is solid good. When im out and about, it keeps disconnecting from my personal hotspot. Any ideas why that would be?

JXD P1000 - Purchased from Pandawill.com
Hello!
I am having same issues with Google Play, can't sync with or install Gmail. I was able to load the .apk file for Google Play but it fails to launch. Google maps and navigation will not work, and device is unable to determine my location. I was able to find .apk files on the net for Mozilla and Facebook and have those working, but I really need access to Google Play Store.
I was able to download the PC drivers from the JXD website, and now my Windows 7 PC will detect the device.
I tried to update the firmware from the JXD site but says that one of the files is not compatible.
Customer service at Pandawill is unable to resolve the situation and will not authorize a refund.
Is there a way to root this device or install any Google apps?
Mant thanks!

I cant say why it is not happening right but for you but i can briefly say what i did. I started by downloading the upgrade from the website. I then connected the tablet to the computer and let the system automatically install the drivers. After the sucessful notice i extracted the zip file i downloaded off the website. I installed the drivers from the file. Both driver folders. Both of them had an error after installing them but windows asked if i wanted to reinstall them (or fix the install) using there recommended method. I chose yes for both. Let it finish and whatever the result i closed it and continued ( dont remember if it came out ok or an error again). With all the errors in the beginning of installing the drivers in the folders i check to see if the computer would still recognize the device and surely it still did. Now i went in follow the instruction from the word document in upgrade section. One thing you will have to do i extract another file from within the folders. Its the same on that the instructions says to chose in the program, one of the first steps. Look for it and extract it or else you wont be able to choose it in the program itself. I had problems in the step where you had to turn off the device and connect the device to the computer via usb so the program can detect it. It didnt ork the first time, nor the second time when i disconnectednitnand reconnected it. i closed the program and restarted it. This time it detected it and i just continued as the instructions said. All came out fine with all of Google's services working including play store. Its full fledged tablet now and better then when i first recieved it.
I was having trouble with wifi connection ( internet connection) not sticking with my hotspot only but i think i got a way for it to work. I read that some tablets have similar problems. They were able to fix it by using a static ip instead of the dynamic one. I tried different ones until i found one that stuck. Now it stays connected all day. Its still under testing to see if it is a complete solution or temp fix. Though im liking the results. You with have to check the router settings to see the range of ip's it uses and just chose different one from in there. Thats the only thing i changed. Hope any of this helps as of right now there is no known root method's.

I purchased an AT&T sim card from Straight Talk to use with the JXD P1000. I am able to make phone calls and send/receive text messages, however, the data is extremely slow. Looks like I am only getting 2G speeds as the indicator light shows "E" for Edge.
Does anyone know of any settings to speed up the data? The device works great when connected to Wi-Fi, but I was hoping to use the sim card for data when Wi-Fi is not available.
Many Thanks!

[Q] 'Dock Mode' and Magnetic Charging

Does anyone else have the same issues with their Xperia Z Ultra? When I connect my phone to a magnetic charging cable, the app that I'm currently in refreshes. The phone thinks it is being docked and the screen auto rotates as well.

Hamdogg! You are EVERYWHERE and always helping people. Did you get your phone back from service? I love your videos btw. I've lurked too long here without posting.
And, I actually want the phone to do nothing when I connect it to the charger. If I'm browsing chrome while the phone is on charge, and I accidentally disconnect the cable, the entire page refreshes. If I'm playing a game or watching a movie, and I'm running low on charge and connect the magnetic cable, then the entire app refreshes and I lose all progress.
I have a feeling it is an Android thing, it treats 'Docking' as some kind of special event, and was wondering if someone could figure out a way to disable it, in their custom rom or through an Xposed module. This is a very specific request, I can imagine, because very few people will have phones with magnetic charging ports and even fewer will use it to charge their phone on a regular basis.

LOL... well, thats what XDA is all about... Thats what I think its about anyway.
Thanks for watching my videos. Gotta try and help if you can..
I'll look into it with my ROM and see what the device is doing when its docks. It may just be a simple titanium backup 'freeze' that would stop it.
Actually try that. freeze sony connect and then dock the ultra and see what happens.
got my phone back a week before xmass... 8 weeks away! man that was a killer!

I can't find a 'Sony Connect' in Titanium Backup.
Actually I'm not sure if it will be as simple as that. Because I experienced the same refreshing issue and auto rotate issue when I was using PA as well.
What you are describing is controlled by setting/display/daydream.

Even with Daydream turned off I'm experiencing the same refreshing and autorotate effect. And I can't seem to find any way to freeze daydream in titanium backup.

Does anyone else have the same issues with their Xperia Z Ultra? When I connect my phone to a magnetic charging cable, the app that I'm currently in refreshes. The phone thinks it is being docked and the screen auto rotates as well.

I hate this, guess it's give & take without having to remove case/un fasten usb seal everytime to charge! I've learned to be extremely careful, but one slip &....
& I believe I set it to do nothing the first time I connected the dock charger, & before I deleted the app it still refreshed & rotated

hi All,
I found this problem too at Kitkat .757. the screen is auto refresh when using magnetic charging. widget, icon, everything at homescreen is refresh. the nightmare is if I'm on playing game or everything on fullscreen mode, BOOM..! the screen suddenly freeze / un-response. can't back to home screen, using power+volUp instead to force restart. try to remove any recent installed app but no result, the problem still exist. from deduction (noob) the problem is the launcher, coz I didn't find this problem on APEX. I dunno.. :/
[FIXED!] 'Dock Mode' and Magnetic Charging
I found the solution to this issue.
If you are rooted, install Xposed and Mohammad Ag's Disable Desk Dock. Solved all my issues.
I think the dev of this module has an Xperia Z1 and has made some of the most amazing and useful modules for Xposed. I highly recommend checking them out and making a donation if you can!

ah really, no thanks. I don't interested to install other unknownly framework to my system.
for the first week I use magnetic charging and the issue (self-refresh) not happen. I'm not sure too, but I think some apk from market bring this issue..

1. Both "Xposed Framework" and the module in question are open source, so go ahead and check the code.
2. Mohammad is one of the most popular and trusted module developer around, so nothing here is "unknown".
Should you be aware of modules that you find randomly on the internet? Yes. Definitely. But you're at XDA now, and the great thing about that is that if something's not right, you'll hear it. There are thousands of people installing Xposed modules at all times, and i'll bet some of them have checked the code in the most popular modules.
thanks for this, was going nuts trying to find a way to disable that annoying thing

Sony DK30 - auto launch application

I'm sure when I first used the DK30 it popped up some options including one to auto launch an application however I can't seem to find where this option is. I've checked the user guide but it's rather brief to say the least, unlike the SBH52 I'm getting nothing popping up at the top when the phone is docked. I suspect I'm missing something obvious so would be grateful if someone could point it out to me.
Thanks,
John

If you are using a Sony phone then take a look at the Smartconnect application. Should be pre-installed.

Perfect, that's exactly what I was after - thanks very much. There wasn't anything I wanted to run initially but when I saw Timely was being made available for free it seemed the perfect use for it.
Just while still on the topic, can the notification noise it makes when docking/undocking be turned off? In the settings you can turn off the status bar notification, the on screen notification and the vibration but there's no obvious option for audio.
