Hi guys, i'm using a Hudl2 Lollipop which is stock rom and non-rooted. I was wondering with the SD-Write permissions is there any way that someone could make an app or explain where i would need to write information for the SD to be able to use the apps?
I can use ES File Explorer to access the External SD Card but for apps such as Kodi and others I am not able to use them at all as each app needs its own permission. Where would i add them to the list or is there an app which can sort this out without rooting the device. Thank you.

This might be a silly question, but I was currently trying to backup some saves for games I bought, and was unable to find my Final Fantasy 3
saves on my sdcard.
I found out that the saves are actually in internal storage in some location like /data/data/com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFIII_GP
My phone isn't currently rooted, and the file explorers I found required root.
Is there a way I can backup the saves to my PC without having a rooted phone?
I wanted to backup all my stuff before attempting to root my phone, but will the root process erase my phone's internal storage, or is that only
when flashing ROMs?
Wifi File Explorer Pro seems to work fine. I can see the folders outside of the SDCard folder...including the root stuff. Now changing those files or folders...I have not tried.

Thanks, downloaded the app and I do seem to be able to explore the phone's internal storage, however the data folder in question seems to be
completely empty according to the app.
EDIT :
After trying with another app, it looks like I probably need root to view the /data folder.
A couple of questions,
I used to use this app on the HTC One (M7),
-i was able to create folders and move files around
-also had an option on some websites including facebook to download via 'ES Downloader' when i clicked on a video.
now on the Z2
-creating folder and moving files around is not possible anymore, am using the 'File Commander' app that is preintalled to do so
i needed this function as the Z2 internal storage is just not enough, have to move media files to the SD card.
(have seen somewhere that KitKat has stopped this function on the ES app, this true?
-no option of the ES downloader to download videos anymore when i click on a video, it just goes straight to playback.
i'm not sure if its the KitKat thing, because my HTC One was on KitKat also when i was able to do all the above mentioned
and feedback is greatly appreciated
TIA
****Both devices are NOT rooted
You need to root to write on SD card with ES.
to clear things up
both the devices are factory without root
HTC probably did something to make it work. KitKat issue though. Only file commander seems to work like u said.

You need to edit the platform.xml file under system/etc/permissions/ in order for any "USER" app to edit the external SD card.
This is a KitKat issue (not Sony).
Google for instructions.

hope that clears it up for you.
Because i download quite a few videos, and those apps initially have the download content on the internal storage, being this phone only has 16GB, it's now such a pain
i'm no android system pro and really not confident in editing or changing any of the factory settings, i probably will just carry on and do the download then use the File Commander to move the content from internal to SD
Hi, i have a 64 Gb exFat sd card that works very well but the problem is writing and editing in it. With MiXplorer i can see all the files in it but if i try to copy and paste something for example, it says that i need to grant permissions and then the stock file manager appears. Unfortunately there is not an option for granting permissions in it but i can just looking inside the sd card and edit it...Anyone else had a similar problem? Honestly i don't want to change file manager. I've already tried to search for permissions in MiXplorer but is different from ES File Manager which i had better permissions' control. Thanks for any suggestion :highfive:
Install NextApp SDFix apk, run and follow instructions.
That solved every problem with sdcard permissions (specially the one in Titanium Backup).
SDFix link
It states that this is for kitkat but works with lollipop, as did on my version 5.0.2 build 180
Remember to restart phone after done.
I'm having problems gving apps access to the external SD card. On previous phones using kitkat or lollipop I have been able to edit the platform.xml file in system/etc/permissions or if I couldn't be bothered to manually edit I've used SD Fix from the Play Store. I primarily want to change it so that apps like Opera Browser which don't give the dialog whereby you can grant permission for the external SD can still gain access.
On Marshmallow I don't seem to be able to find the correct section to modify (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) and SD Fix says it can't find the correct section to modify either.
Does anyone know what it is that I need to modify to get the same results within Marshmallow? Or is there an app that will solve the problem for me?
Hi! Lately my unrooted tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (SM-T533) is not allowing full RW access to X-Plorer, Es Explorer or even My Files, so I can't move around, delete files properly. It prompts me to provide access to the app , instructing me to select the SD root folder from an "open from" menu that pops up. However, when I select it, it takes me back to the same menu again and again. No luck changing to different apps. The SD seems to work otherwise, I can read te content. I have seen solutions related to changing the framework.xml files, but I need to root and I don't want to. Also, I read also that my "documents" app could be disabled, which is not. The tablet is using Touchwiz stock 5.1.1.
Any other solutions that avoids rooting of formatting? Thank you very much in advance! I hope I posted it on the right forum!
