stock or aosp

Hi I am coming from s4, can someone please tell me the down side of aosp/cm comparing to stock? Any degradation of battery life, camera quality and voice call quality? And the benefi
I don't know if it is a i9500 or 9505 but first you have to forget everything you know from the Samsung world. Because every hunch of something is missing or needs workarounds to work on AOSP is not present here on Sony world. I am coming from S3 and Note 2 (there is a short Nexus 4 time between Sonys and Samsungs but it was just pure heaven so let's not talk about it)
So basically: When you go to AOSP (or CM more precisely) Sound, Screen and Camera options are reduced compared to Sony ROMs. For example, Sony ROM has some sound and visual enhancements for better music and picture quality. I use the sound enhancement all the time as it's really giving better results on especially downloaded mp3s but never needed to use XReality for picture adjusting as I prefer my pictures to "be" better instead of being "seen" better only on one screen.
What are the solutions CM is offering for above? For Xreality, there is nothing to do but only turning on Google photos backup account and let Google enhance your photos (which is a better result IMO as the quality difference is permanent on any other screen too). For sound quality, have I mentioned that this phone is already beating almost every other rival on the market when it comes to the music? Still, If you desire more there is always PowerAmp on the market and CM offers an equaliser for tuning the audio.
Let's talk about camera; you have to unlock bootloader in order to install CM or any other custom ROM. That means you have lose some specific software tuning on the camera especially for low light picturing (please remember to back them up "BEFORE" you unlock the bootloader). So basically you are left with pure Sony camera driver without Sony's patented extra technologies. This is what any unlocked bootloader-ed Sony phone has regardless of its ROM.
But CM's camera app has no options like Sony's? There are many camera alternatives on the market, my preference is on Open Camera but you want to pay Camera FX-5 will also give DSLR like control over your camera.
Any difference so far? Not that I can tell if there is enough light. I spend one week with stock Sony (on locked bootloader with camera enhancements), another with CM so far and collect all my photos on my computer and look them on the big screen (LG plasma 42" TV) and the only difference so far is on the front camera photos. Front camera is unfortunately worse on AOSP ROMs. Rear camera's difference is only and slightly visible on very dark environments but still way better than my Samsung Note 2's best camera results
Other differences? Well, CM used to have this 3 second call sound delay on phone calls and the speaker was not working on phone calls again. For the past week they were fixed and it's perfect as a daily driver. Actually I am getting better battery life on manual screen brightness and every other thing is on ( I believe Facebook for Xperia and Twitter for Xperia add-ons are eating my battery life on Stock Sony ROMs).

[Cm 12.1] Front Camera Noise

Hi Guys,
I am currently on Cm 12.1 and the front camera quality is pathetic. There is hell lot of noise and the end picture looks like a VGA quality.
Anyways to fix it?
its a hardware issue, no not fixable.
Hardware issue? You mean my camera is faulty? Or all sony xpria z2 cameras have the same issue?
z2 camera is just crap

He saved the camera of this device with his HAL mod, and the camera in his rom is by far the best out there.
I like the pictures I took from sultan's camera, but I've never seen a one-on-one comparison. Has anyone actually made comparisons?
The big quality jump is for the video part and the display on low light.
For the photo, it is not really far better, except on low light because the prioity is on maintaining the Iso at a low level.
Sometimes, the shutter speed can be quite "high" and you can have shake problems.
So when you're telling about inferior pics, just explain it because it can be that you don't use it well.
Basically, what Sultan's mod does is that it increases the shutter speed to get less blurry photos in low light.
What this in turn does, is make the photos look noticeably noisier (increased ISO) and less bright. There is a noticeable difference only in slightly dim / low light conditions.
If you have steady hands or don't mind getting blurry photos, use stock.
If you want no motion blur and other cool stuff like 4K video, [email protected], etc, use the mod.
If you want both, use my app
noisy pics with no proper focus is what i am talking about
2 questions
1)is there any rom having same CAMERA quality as oxygen
2)also whether all Cm based rom have same noisy pics?

Terrible camera quality on stock oreo

After oreo update my camera quality turned from great to sometimes impressive to pure disappointment. Photos come out blurry with no details on objects or faces or hair. Is there a way to fix it? I took a look at the settings everything is set to its max quality setting. Hdr did nothing to improve results, same bad quality with auto, on or off. Google camera app also produces similar quality results. Any suggestions?
I can say, without doubt, it has something to do with your phone specifically.
Have the stock Oreo update here, both front and back cameras work fantastically. Nothing like you describe.
First, I'd try a factory reset, make sure the lenses are clean, and re-check them.
You didn't mention if you were referring to the back or front camera.
Selfies with the LG app are still awful, as they were with Nougat, although in Oreo there is a slider to adjust the level of image processing, But even at the minimal level when you zoom in it looks like a brush drawing.
The above problem can be completely overcome using the ported GCam app, discussed extensively in other threads.
In contrast, the native camera app does an excellent job with the main cameras in most scenarios, especially with the new "bright mode" in very low light situations.
Again, in certain situations the Gcam does a slightly better job. The main issue with GCam is that it uses "bursts" of photos and then HDR processing to make these great sharp photos. This works great in static situations but if the subject is moving (like with children) there will inevitably be blur of the subject. In these situations the LG app does a better job.
Since you are reporting a problem specific to your device there is probably no "fix" other than try resetting it, use Gcam, or there is physical damage to your camera.

Haven't run into that problem with the Gcam I'm using. Though I use normal HDR+ and not HDR+ enhanced.
Yeah sorry for not fully describing the issue. I have some pre update photos from the back main sensor as well as the wide angle one that look fantastic , after I updated to oreo , everything turned blurry and washed out. Will try to factory reset the phone and take some sample shots to check if there is any difference . Thank you all for the replies.
Let down by the same issue.post oreo update the photographs from back camera are overexposed and washed out and the colour accuracy and clarity has taken a kick in the gut.
Same here, since the Q Lens option has appeared on the screen.I still have my lgg4 and thats crystal
What about try to replace Oreo camera with Nougat (7.0) one? It would be nice to compare pics from both versions in Oreo (any download Nougat camera only?).

Custom rom camera quality

After installing custom rom, front camera quality degrades.
Photos from Back camera are fine
But photos’ quality from front camera are pretty bad.
Is this possible that just one side of camera’s quality becomes bad?
