hey i was wondering if i could change to twrp from safestap, i am using a verizon samsung galaxy s4 l545 that has been rooted and running custom roms since new. right now i am currently running the safestrap version of stangfire 5.0 v2. ive never taken a over the air update from verizon ive always updated from different methods listed on xda or listed by the developers for their roms. i would like to be able to use twrp to have acess to different roms other then the safestrap ones but im not sure what is the best way to install it or what version to install. any help would be appreciated
thanks
Unless you are one of the lucky ones to have the MDK bootloader you will not be able to use TWRP.
If you don't know, the easiest way to find out is to install Samsung Phone Info from the Play Store.
If you are not on the MDK bootloader you could very easily brick your phone trying to install a custom recovery.

Hey all,
I was recently given the Verizon galaxy note 2, the phone already had the stock 4.4.2 nd7 installed, after some digging I was able to root using Ghettoroot v0.2.2
I just came from the galaxy s3 and am comfortable with CWM and Odin and what not, but am definitely still a noob with the galaxy note 2.
The main question is, am I going to be able to flash a custom rom or a new kernel or anything fun with this? or did I basically just gain root access for apps and stuff only?
Any other recommendations are more than appreciated...

Can't flash custom recoveries with just root on Note 2 i605. You have to have an unlocked bootloader which hasn't been achieved from 4.3 and up on this phone. So no custom roms or kernels.
I have been reading on Installing CM11 on my Galaxy S4 Verizon (SCH-I545) phone. It said not to use that method if you don't have I545VRUAMDK (I'm currently on I545RUFNC5)..
How will I be able to install CM11 on my phone? Is it not possible or is there another method I can follow? I'm currently on the stock ROM and rooted with towelroot.
Some guidance on installing a custom ROM on my S4 would be nice.. I'm kinda lost with all the warnings with the different basebands. Last thing I want to do is brick my phone. x-x

If your phone is NC5 (like mine) then you have the locked bootloader and need to use Safestrap to run a custom ROM. AOSP ROMs like CM will not work for us since our bootloader dont allow for custom kernels. Use Safestrap and try a ROM like Empty Galaxy vDecember, Echoe, Eclipse or maybe HyperDrive.
I'm trying to get Android 5.0 on my wife's Verizon Galaxy S4. I'm specifically looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643031 because it includes an OTA update feature.
My own phone is a Nexus 5, so I guess I got spoiled with it being easy
My understanding is that I need to Root in order to flash TWRP or CWM recovery. My baseband version is VRUFNK1. I've found two or three ways to root on older versions, but am struggling to find the guide for this one. If I can skip to flashing the recovery that would be wonderful.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. I've been searching for a few hours now and still can't seem to get anywhere.
Edit: PS - Realized I'm not 100% sure on the radio modem thing either. I downloaded the one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358007 but at this point I'm not sure that's up-to-date anymore.
You would have to "downgrade" to NC5 then root with Towelroot. You can't use a custom recovery. Only Safestrap. As far as Android 5.0, I'm pretty sure it's not possible for Safestrap users at this time. There are guides on how to these steps in the forum.

I am a beginner to Android, and I am wondering if someone can introduce me to how to make my Galaxy S4 into a Google Play Edition with Lollipop. Can someone walk me through this?
Please help!

Likely this will not be possible for you.
Samsung and Verizon have kept the GS4 Bootloader locked and unless you have the "MDK" version of the bootloader there are no options to change your ROM to "Google Play Edition with Lollipop". Furthermore, depending on your current bootloader, you may not even be able to root your phone.
Go to the Baseband section under settings/more/about device and look for the baseband version. The last 3 letters/numbers are the ones you will see referred to in these posts. Up to NK4 was KitKat, OC1 is Lollipop.
If your last 3 are MDK you may be able to use an exploit called Loki which will allow you to root and change roms - (search MDK and Loki on these forums). Unfortunately if your last 3 are OC1 then you are on Lollipop and out of luck for root/custom roms at the moment.
Once you find those letters/numbers you will know your options. For Kitkat versions you can root with Towelroot and install the Safestrap app/recovery and use that to flash custom Kitkat Touchwiz Roms only. There are a few methods for upgrading to Lollipop from NK4 and retaining root but you must root the phone first before upgrading.
With very few exceptions, once you upgrade your bootloader/baseband version you cannot downgrade, so if you are already on OC1, the only option is to wait for a new root exploit to be found.
Hope this helps a little.
Try looking up "how to flash roms on galaxy s4" and I think there is a guide on xda

Hey guys,
I'm already rooted and running stock OG6, but I came across this "kingroot" root application and I hadn't seen anything about it on the T-Mobile S5 forum. Does anybody know if this works on our devices?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
Apparently it works on the S4 running lollipop.
On another note, do custom recoveries like twrp and philz still work with lollipop/OG6? I can't seem to get one to stick (at least from the phone app flashers). I haven't tried the odin method.
Thanks!
