Have they "castrated" function because of micousb without flap for water?
Update
I find the Answer.
You must be activated every time the function by "connecting devices".
However I have noticed that when removing the USB is also temporarily removed the sd and applications on sd lock.
Create a shortcut for OTG
If you go to settings, device connection, usb connectivity, tips for connecting with a usb device, then press add button and you get a shortcut in the quick launch toggles.
Hey,
Sorry for uping the thread but I'm running 6.0 fw.163 and the option is missing...
Any idea ?

You just have to put in the OTG and restart the Z5.
im using usb drive even harddrive via OTG on regular bases for backup , you need to go on connections , attached usb device
also mouse and gamepad will work, you can add shortcut to the top menu (where you can find wifi\bt etc..
you will also need FK file commander that come with the phone, or ES

In my Z5 Compact the USB OTG working if the SD card is not encrypted (option in Android Setting/Security/Encryption).
If not encrypted the USB OTG are working fine. (Note: Need to click the "Detect USB Device")
The 'Detect USB device' does not work always. Even restart does not do the job in my test with a OTG cable and a USB stic that are working well on a LG G2
Old thread but nobody is addressing this strange behavior anywhere. On my Z5 if the SD card is encrypted, the OS won't allow access to USB otg. Says a security policy is preventing usb. I must uncheck sd card encryption, remount the usb, and then recheck encrypt sd card before transferring files. It's extremely annoying .
i am having the same issues, OTG is not detecting not detecting
I have not encrypted the sd card, have you written to sony about that?
USB otg works everytime for me
BUT not with third party file explorer... ES file explorer never detects any removable drives...

Hi, I want show you as connect external HDD to XPERIA mini pro (SK17i). This HDD is 500 GB, USB 2.0.
I made cable for external supply, but you can use a USB HUB with external power supply (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827217)
AL Mass Storage Manager - application for mounting partition: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=labs.antu.hw.storage&hl=sk
Sorry of my english...
re
Great Work!
i will try it
Does it show in the place where /sdcard/ and /system/ are shown?
nice but app will be use yo view SD/USB1/?
You can change name for mount, so for example you can see HDD/ USB flash disk in - mnt/sdcard/MEDIUM/sda1 .... but you can mounting only in mnt/sdcard folder.
Other connected media you see as sdb, sdc, ...
In application you can see - Base directory
WOW
Incredibly amazing, i wasnt thinking in purchasing the usb adapter cable, but now i think ill have my way with it
Thanks for sharing

You can use the device with the new updated version ICS 4.1.B.0.431? I already have the OTG cable identical to the video, but it only works the mouse or USB keyboard. When I connect a pen drive it does not recognize.
Nice
Where to get this adapter?. link please.. and external power source?. so 2 wires from the hard disk. one into phone for data transfer and one more for power?
I tried connecting USB memory stick, 8 GB 2.0 to my Active.
It connected and that's it. I could not access it thrue Root Browser (payed).

Did you mount partition with AL Mass Storage Manager? If yes, you try other browser manager.

Has anyone been able to connect a Nikon DSLR (I have tried D7000) via USB OTG to their Desire X running Jelly Bean on a non-rooted phone? I have been able to connect an 8GB thumbdrive and mouse successfully but when the dslr is connected the drives are not available via ES file explorer or the images via the gallery, there are no error message the device is just not detected.
I have confirmed the cameras USB port by connecting to a standard PC successfully and I have tried the dslr with 1 and 2 SDcards in each slot in case the dual cards were causing an issue. Upon connecting the camera the access light flashes so I know some kind of connection is attempted.
USB Host Diagnostics shows the OS has support for USB OTG.
Should this work on a non rooted setup or do I need to root and install a custom ROM for full USB OTG support? Hopefully I can find a way to connect the device and use DSLR Dashboard.
Phone:: Desire X
Android:: 4.1.1
Sense:: 4+
Software Num :: 2.22.206.3
HTC SDK API level :: 4.65
Kernel :: 3.4.0-g162d501
Carrier : O2 (UK)
Thanks Again.
It depends on the filesystem used on the flash card of the camera. If it is using ntfs, you'll need root to mount the partition.

Thanks for your response, the 16GB cards are SDHC and are natively formatted to FAT32. I have also tried a FAT16 256MB card and with no card inserted. Same result as before the device isn't detected.
I will try to root the phone over the w/e and see it this helps.
Are you sure the camera gets enough power? Alternatively, get yourself a USB SD card reader and put the card in there.
ybrHous cannot
It may be a power issue, I know with portable hard drives an additional powered connection is sometimes needed. However I think the camera connection is purely used for data and the camera is operating from its own battery.
I should have said in the original post the connection will be used with the DSLR Dashboard app to control the camera remotely.
Thanks again
Has anyone explored the USB support on the Xperia Z4 tablet? If you have, can you confirm that if an external memory device such as a memory stick is connected it disables the internal SD card? If any apps have been transferred to the SD card they then become inaccessible and the Z4 can become unstable. The only way to restart the apps is to remove the memory stick and manually restart the Z4!
This is so serious that I am about to contact Sony and tell them that with its current configuration, the Z4 tablet is unfit for use!
external USB does not work here <- wrong, corrected
I plugged in an USB-Adapter to connect several USB-Sticks. That did not work.
I remember it worked with an ancient Toshiba AT300 Tablet three years ago. Have not used it since then ...
Nowadays I use Software Data Cable but this is no fun (permission wise) on my stock, unrooted Z4 Tablet.
I have a 128 GBytes MicroSD card plugged in but this is no fun (permission wise) on my stock, unrooted Z4 Tablet.
I did not unplug the MicroSD card.
EDIT: I stand corrected by ITotem (next Post #3)
It works - but not automagically (as it does on my Toshiba Tablet). Both - SD Card and external Storage - work simultanously!

I don't own the Sony Xperia Z4 tablet yet... .but have you tried the solution described here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-tablet/general/usb-otg-support-t3147871?

If you try to connect USB storage to your Z4 Tablet it seems not to work (tested on 28.0.A.6.8).
But as found out at w ww.coolsmartphone.com/2015/06/27/xperia-z4-tablet-missing-usb-otg-support/ it is! Its only unneeded complicated...
In short: go to "Settings" -> "Xperia Connectivity" -> "USB Connectivity" -> "Detect USB device" while storage is already connected. Then it's showing up in /storage/usbdisk as it should be.
(under "USB Connectivity" -> "Tips for connecting with USB device" you can add a shortcut to quicksettings)
Let's hope Sony will fix this to auto connect as it was working e.g. in Tablet Z. There it is showing up immediately when you plugged it in without a need to touch minimum 3 times!!!!

Thanks for the reply.
I have used the solution mentioned, but the issue is not connecting to the USB memory, which does work as described, but what happens to the Z4 when you do get connected. Losing access to the SD card in the memory expansion slot is a major problem.

Have you tried running an app that you have transferred to the SD card using the standard Android 'Move to SD Card' function while a USB memory stick is installed?

Yes
DOES NOT RUN - holy cow!
Needs a reboot to join the app pool again.
Bad design/functionality IMO

I have been in touch with Sony 'Xperia Care' about the issues I have raised with the USB support on the Z4 tablet. I have the full transcript, but the following extracts from their email confirm my worst suspicions. They said:
'I can confirm that when a USB device is connected to the tablet the SD card is meant to unmount.'
and
'We would also not recommend using a USB hub on the tablet as this not the intended purpose of connecting a USB device to the tablet, the main one being for external storage. '
What follows is based on my experience so far:
This means that while a USB memory device is attached to the Z4 tablet, any app which has been transferred to the SD card will stop. If an app attempts to run in the background, the Z4 tablet can crash. This has happened on my Z4 tablet.
Using 'Tap here to safely remove USB storage' does not re-mount the SD card. The only way to restore access to the SD card is to restart the Z4 tablet.
On some occasions, both USB memory AND SD based apps work, despite what Xperia Care say! However this not the norm!
Although Sony do not recommend the use of USB hubs, they do work. However:
If the hub offers power to the Z4 tablet, the Z4 will go in to 'charge' mode and disables the OTG data mode.
If the hub is completely non-powered, the Z4 tablet is likely to disable power to the USB port and close it down if you attach multiple devices. It certainly can't power a USB powered hard drive, unlike my LG G3 phone which can!
If the hub powers USB devices but not the Z4 tablet, it seems to work normally. However, the USB implementation on the Z4 can only support ONE memory device, again unlike my LG G3 phone which supports the two I have tried and probably more!
I have told Xperia Care that I think the USB support on the Z4 tablet is a mess!
I was going to start a new thread but then found this. I like to use a mouse with my Z4 - it completes the PC-like setup. However, I have found that whenever I want to use a wireless mouse, the dongle connectd to the OTG cable is not recognized until I reboot the tablet. I wondered if I had a problem but it looks as though it could be the same issue as reported here.
I was looking for a thread for USB experiences on the Z4 tablet and found this. At the same time, I've been experimenting with different setups and also testing the problems cited here. I've had NO problems so far, so I'll give a run down on what I've been running.
I have a USB non-powered hub attached. From that, I'm running wireless keyboard/mouse combo. At the same time, I've attached a powered external Maxell HDD, which happens to be NTFS.
To mount the HDD, I've used ExFAT/NTFS. This opens directly into another required file management app called Total Commander (TC). ExFAT/NTFS needs to be running for the file commander app to access the HDD, but once it is, it appears in the list fine. I can also then switch between SD card browsing and HDD browsing in TC without any problems.
I also tested the concurrent running of apps via SD Card while the HDD is mounted. I moved Firefox over to the SD Card. When I did this, the transfer process unmounted the HDD in the background. So, I had to remount via ExFAT/NTFS, but once done, it ran again without problems. I then concurrently ran Firefox and Total Commander together, switching between the two and found NO problems. Again, I can also switch from the HDD to the SD Card without problems.
Assuming that this is the required level of concurrent use (browsing HDD and using SD Card mounted apps at the same time), then I'd say that Sony must have fixed the problems. There has been a major update to both the Sony UI and to Google's Nougat since this thread was active.
Just to add, I've had several keyboards and mice running at the same time via the one USB hub, without crashes, which was pleasing, though completely pointless
Will try to run some controllers via the USB next.
Based on the compatibility list from Sandisk's website, the LG G5 supports Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C.
The link can be found here: kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17189
I will try to describe my problem clearly below.
I just bought a Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C 128GB. It work fine with my laptop when I use the usb A connector. My phone have the camplus module connected and I tried to connect the type c connector of the Ultra Dual USB Drive to my LG G5 and I realise the phone was unable to recognize it or even detect it. So after sometime I figure out that the problem is most likely the CamPlus so i swapped the module with the original phone connector (the components with speaker only). Now the LG G5 is able to detect the USB drive but it is quite intermittent and the USB Drive can get ejected randomly. I also downloaded the Sandisk Memory Zone App and the application was not able to detect the USB drive. I tried es file manager too but it is also unable to detect the flash drive. The only file manager that works is the build-in LG's file manager and as I mention previously the USB drive can get ejected randomly the build-in LG's file manager is only able to detect the USB drive when it is successfully mounted. On some lucky occasion when the USB drive is mounted successfully, I am able to see the thumbnail of the content inside the USB drive but I am unable to play any video from the USB drive.
I tried the Sandisk Ultra Dual USB Drive Type-C on my Zenfone 3 which also have a USB type c connector port. Initially, when I plugged in the USB drive into my Zenfone 3 said something about unrecognized format and suggest me to format it on the phone. I followed the onscreen instruction and format the USB drive, now the USB drive works flawlessly on my Zenfone 3.
Next, I tried to used the formatted USB drive on my LG G5 but the same issue that I encounter previously on the LG G5 still persist.
Does anyone have any idea is LG phone only able to recognize sd card instead of USB drive? Had anyone encountered my problem before and know the work around or perhaps anyone have some idea how to fix it? I am also not really sure why is the LG G5 only able to view the content the build-in LG's file manager. Thanks for reading this long post. Cheers!
P.S.The USB drive is formatted in exFAT format. The phone is also not root.
Hello,
I'm on the latest, non-rooted Nougat 32.4.A.1.54 SGP771 and can confirm there is no OTG support, though you still do get the option 'find an OTG device'. I use an original SONY OTG USB (female) to micro USB adapter, checked with at least 4 USB memory sticks all in FAT32, a mini USB mouse no luck. Also checked the connectors/ports for damage, cleaned it to no avail. The tablet charges battery and transfers data with PC flawlessly. My question is: is there any ADB command to force chceck the OTG support and/or its status?
Thanks,
Jack
