60fps on Chromecast 2015 for YouTube videos - Google Chromecast 2015

A lot of claims have been made that the new Chromecast cannot do 60fps for YouTube videos and whilst from experience that was the case with the original Chromecast and will continue to be with the YouTube app, it is possible (kind of) to get videos to display at 60fps on the new Chromecast via screen mirroring. I say "kind of" because I have noticed frame drops and some sound sync issues every so often because the video output is not optimised. If Google wanted to, I would theorise that it would not be an issue for the YouTube app on Chromecast to run at [email protected] or even [email protected]
If you wish to verify (or rubbish) my claims, the method on how to do it is below:
You will need
- 1x Chromecast 2015;
- 1x Laptop or PC with a resolution at 1920x1080 with Google Chrome and the Google Cast (Beta) extension installed. As a junior member, I can't post a link but it's easily found on your favourite search engine using the phrase "Google Cast (Beta);
- 1x video which works at [email protected] (Sonic ones are good to give the video encoders a good test);
- (optional) video capture device which records at 60fps if you wish to show the world that it works.
Ensure your Chromecast is working, on YouTube, select a video which has a quality option of [email protected] Select the Google Cast extension (the button in the top right of the Chrome window which looks like a Chromecast button) and select options in the menu. Ensure that it is outputting at 1920x1080. Also feel free to test with the bitrate options (I set it to 10000Kbps although from experience [email protected] work between 2000-6000Kbps), ensure the "Maximum capture frame rate" is set at 60 and also ensure the "Enable frame size/rate auto-throttling" option is turned on or you'll get sound sync issues.
Now using the Google Cast extension, select the drop down arrow (don't get it to cast youtube.com otherwise you'll be stuck at [email protected]) and select the "cast this tab" option before selecting your preferred Chromecast. Now play that video and put it in full screen mode (right click and select the "Stats for Nerds" option to verify that the YouTube video is running at [email protected]).
All being well, with the aforementioned issues, it should be outputting at 60fps as opposed to the standard 30fps. Something very welcome for video game footage. Seems to work better if the tab your video is playing in on Chrome doesn't lose focus. If it does, I did find frame skipping occurred more often.
I uploaded a video to YouTube to verify the claim I made.
Hopefully Google will take note and at some point in the not too distant future, 60fps will be available on Chromecast - at least for the new ones.

Thanks, but "looking great" = actually playing back at 60 fps?
Can you confirm that?
And would you also be able to confirm if the Chromecast Ultra plays 2160p60 YouTube videos at 60fps?
I saw in your video that your monitor apparently only supports [email protected] via HDMI. Do you happen to also possess a UHDTV that can do [email protected] so that you could test if 2160p60 YouTube videos are being played back at 60 fps?
There are lots of users on the Internet who would like to know that.
