Does anyone know of a custom recovery that has been compiled for the LG L15G (AKA Sunrise)? I've been looking all weekend for one and haven't had any luck. I know there's no official build of either CWM or TWRP available for it, but I'm hoping to find an unofficial build that will work. I have it rooted already, but I've not been able to find a recovery for it and I don't want to do any more hacking till I have that.
Also if anyone can point me towards a decent custom ROM for this thing I'd appreciate it. I haven't had any luck finding that either.

i have this model but i updated it before I knew it would prevent me from rooting it... any way you could upload a backup of your firmware that I can use to downgrade to?

Just picked this phone up too, any luck on getting a ROM for it?
I picked one up....couldn't resist for just $9.82. I didn't let it update, so I was able to root it with Kingroot 4.6. Quite snappy after all the bloatware was removed. Have about 1.5gb of internal memory left, but added an 8gb microSD. I haven't been able to findy any recovery, doubt one exists. Nice little emergency phone to have in the car or backpack.
Just picked this phone up as well, and KingoRoot doesn't work. I wasn't prompted for a firmware update when I first cranked it up so I guess I'm on some version that isn't supported? Can anybody clarify what the status of this device is currently? I've got the Tracfone version.
I just rooted my LG L15G tracphone with KingRoot and it worked immediately. Great!
Next step is to get this 10 dollar phone unlocked.

I just got this phone for Christmas. What version of Kingroot did you use? The ones I'm downloading don't work. (The one I've tried says something about no available root strategy and adds me to some stupid que line or something. There is no "try it" button after it does this.) You happen to have the specific APK you used and what version was your phone on when you rooted it?
Currently mine is Android version 4.4.2 with kernel version 3.4.0. I haven't attempted to update it yet as I am to assume that would be a bad idea. Unless you have a version newer then mine, then I guess updating would actually help me in this situation.

I really want to root it as I want to remove some bloatware like McAfee and Polaris office. I would also like to uninstall Chrome so that I can install it to SD card. (unless Chrome can't be moved to SD card, in which case this would be a waste of time I suppose.) Aside from a few extra Google apps, there really isn't that much bloatware aside from what I already mentioned above. I can wait for a custom rom/recovery (though having a custom recovery would be nice as it would allow me to backup my phone incase something gets messed up). I just want to free up some internal storage by removing the bloatware.
(also, the no outside links thing with new users is annoying. I agree new users shouldn't be allowed to. But please at least code the forum to be smarter. I had to manually remove all the links to a post I quoted before it would let me post. That's kinda stupid. If I quote a post in the same thread I'm responding too that has links, it should be assumed to be safe since the links were posted by a verified member. I would hope the forum could fix that or at least have the common ***king courtesy of removing the links from the quotes for me. )

Ok some interesting news to report. It almost wants to work now. For what ever reason, it randomly decided to finally show me the "Try it" button. (I should have clarified earlier it never displayed that button. It would just say root strategy unavailable and that was the end of it. Now it says there is one and lets me use the Try It button. However it will get to about 60% (though it will randomly stop earlier on other attempts. Sometimes my phone will reboot after it reaches 20% or so) it will just say root failed.
I don't understand why this is seeing that my LG Sunrise is pretty much the same as someone else who managed to root it with Kingroot. It's never been updated. (I even checked for updates and there aren't any).
The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is that the phone isn't yet activated as I have not gotten air time for it yet. Does this root process require the phone to be on an active SIM first?
Root with Root Genius
I have root my LG L15G (Android 4.4.2, kernel 3.4.0+, software version LGL15G10f) with Root Genius for PC v3.0.85.
Of cource, before rooting "Developer options" must be unlocked (5-8 taps on Settings>About Phone>Software information>Build number) and turned on; in "Developer options" must be selected "USB debugging".
After this connect phone to PC. All phone drivers must be installed.
Run Root Genius. When program will ready and say about connect with LG L15G - press one button. After 2-3 minutes root is enabled.
Titanium Backup works. But I have no ideas for unlock the phone to make a possibility work in other GSM-networks, except TracFone's.
Hmm, I had tried Root Genius and that didn't work for me (and yeah I did enable USB debugging. I apparently was using an older build of Root Genius. But I found and used the build you used and still get the unsupported model error. ). My software version is as follows:
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: M8610B-AAAANAZM-1.0.6060
Kernel version: 3.4.0+
Build number: KOT49I.LGL15G11a
Software version: LGL15G11a
There does appear to be some differences in the software version of mine vs the post above me. I'm guessing they changed something. But that's odd as my phone was brand new just like yours assuming you got it around the same time as me.
EDIT. Ok some bad news. Looks like there was a newer software update (that my phone apparently came with) that blocks root and even prevents download mode from working. (I had attempted to boot into download mode but none of the button combinations work and even the root scripts I've tried can't get it to reboot into download mode)
Seems I'm stuck with a phone I probably can't ever root.
It seems it can still be forced into download mode by using a "56k/130k/910k cable" cable (special cable with resistor on one of the data lines). But they are running for $18 on ebay and way to damn expensive for a simple cable with a resistor installed. Resistors are probably only worth pennies each, so they are way too expensive to be charging that much for it.
If I had a such a cable, the root script I had tried awhile back might have worked as it needs to get the phone into download mode to finish the process.
There seems that there's little hope for your phone but I may have a solution. My LG Sunrise got updated as well and got root access with the update. You can use King Root but not Kingo.
Look it up on Google. So far I've had no success on getting to the recovery mode.
I've tried rooting with KingRoot. It will just say it failed after 20% (sometimes it goes higher, but always end with it saying this).
Note that unlike your phone, mine already had the latest update out of the box.

If you still haven't got root yet,for me it was McAfee that's been blocking Kingroot every since Nov.
Even though I never set up an account,it was the culprit..I opened the McAfee app created the account and Disabled.
Went to settings,ALL apps,then opened McAfee..Scrolled down to ''manage space'' and deactivated and hit force stop.
Then I ran KingRoot version 4.8.0 from this site.My device rebooted at around 30%,went back to KingRoot and it finished rooting.

It took a few tries, but after disabling McAfee's root protection (It completely skipped my mind that this stupid app would have a feature that would interfere. ) KingRoot definitely did it's thing. (I had to re-attempt twice because once it rebooted and failed. So I had to kill the app again and try again. That time it rooted without restarting).
I've already uninstalled McAfee and a few other system apps I need to get rid of. (McAfee on a $10 phone? Yeah..... No.... I'll take my chances. )
I also replaced KingRoot with SuperSU and uninstalled Purify and the KingRoot app that installed the root. After cleaning out unneeded bloatware, this phone is pretty responsive now! It used to lag a little and not register touches some times. But after cleaning out the bloatware (McAfee was probably the main source of the lag) it runs pretty well now!
EDIT:
Ok minor issue. I can't seem to uninstall Chrome (since it's a system app on this phone). It keeps reinstalling it self. It won't stay gone. What would be causing that? I wanted to move Chrome to SD so it doesn't take up space. But this particular phone won't let me.
Seems to happen with Polaris Office as well. Not a big deal at the moment. I can just freeze this app so it won't take up any CPU time/ram. Freezing it seems to work fine. Uninstalling it just results in it mysteriously reinstalling it self....
Does yours lose root after rebooting? I tried to run 'adb reboot recovery' for giggles and SuperSU no longer had root when it failed to start the local and booted normally.

I have the Android SDK installed on my desktop but the TWRP porting guide by Dees_Troy is a little bit too vague for a first timer. I was able to extract the stock recovery using dd this afternoon.
I haven't tried to reboot mine into recovery mode. But root sticks when doing normal reboots.

Hang on to that beer money for now, I am working on zeroing the /laf partition to gain access to fastboot hopefully this will work out, and we will have save and easy way to unlock the bootloader on phone to make it flashable

That's fantastic. If it would help, I have one of those variable resistor cables that some LG phone requires for supporting baseband or entering the bootloader.

Searched google with lots of different keywords and can't find anything that will successfully root this phone. It's running 4.0.4 IMM76I ics with software version 1.006SP, hardware 010B. The kernel version, if it helps, is:

I've tried superoneclick, multiroot (title is root many.... on xda mainly for sony but some kyocera), and xfactor exploit. I know most of them aren't for this specific phone. In the root many and xfactor, it does manage to call up the restore screen but the phone closes the restore a few seconds after opening it and the exploit fails every time. I've been checking every day for new news for this phone but haven't found anything yet. I assume it is because it isn't a popular phone as to why there is not a guide. I assume that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back doors for the other kyocera phones on this model. Any suggestions or clarifications are welcome.

after SuperSU app is installed, go into the settings of SuperSU, and choose "Grant" for default access.

So I finally got around to replacing my old EVO with something a little more durable, but the sprint bloatware is killing me. Would someone with the proper skill sets please figure out how to root the Torque? I know at the very least I would be extremely grateful.

My work just switched over to sprint and got us all this phone. So that's about 40 of us that got this one, and its horrible that we have no root! We would be extremely grateful if we could get some root going on!

I to have tried other rooting methods (poot, z4root) because they work on other kyocera phones with no luck. But I don't believe that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back door. Where there is a will there is a way. I'm w willing to try any other methods that anyone would be willing to share . The other commits say this is not a popular device I disagree with that it will sell in good numbers. We just need to find someone willing to root it and build us some roms. Thats why my hat is off to all the people who put forth an effort on the HTC EVO, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic, S2 and S3. If you or anyone have any ideas who we need to talk to, a root method, or anything let me know I will try anything to get rid of bloat and root this device. If I knew how to write a script to do it myself it would be done but I'm no where near the talent level of the ones who do. I'm just a flasher

I've tried to I'm blue in the face!!! I tried to reach out to others who have helped me in rooting and in roms with no luck whatsoever because of devices like the HTC ONE and the new S4 around the corner they must have their hands full. I've also tried the two methods that you did as well as SRS One Click. I just wish I know how to do this and I would do it myself. Please someone out there HELP US!!!!!!:cyclops: Teach me!!
My buddy had gotten this phone and I wanted to help him get rid of the bloat ware. I have tried everything but the one click root program. I wanted to try like I first did on the original evo 4g. Someone, I'm assuming a dev had put in how to basically on adb put the phone into a suspend type mode and were able to root the phone then. I looked all over for the code, but couldn't find it. I'll willing to try anything too. I'm not a dev, but I'm not a noob. I do know a little with the android coding, so anything I can do to help...

Ok! try motochop it works the only problem is I can't get superuser to work right. You have to go into the settings and set default access as grant. From what I know the 1st rooted torque ever.

I actually just saw this phone in the store the other day and am considering purchasing it.
Don't actually need Direct Connect, tho.... so I'm wondering how easy it would be to use or even make a custom rom with 4.2, and perhaps the EcoBoost and Maximizer (sp?) battery saving apps that come stock with the Sprint firmware.
I'm guessing that if the phone has been rooted, the Roms will come??
i tried the motochop on the torque, and it said successful and everything, changed the acces to auto allow, and it still isnt working. Superuser is there, but wont work. did you do anything special or anything else?

The next question is which release version are you guys using when attempting root with motochopper? It is now at 1.007SP. I attempted a few different methods while on 1.006SP without success. Personally, I only would like root for general reasons (Titanium Backup to efficiently backup/restore/transfer apps between wipes and possibly tethering) along with reprogramming/disabling the DC button (though 1.007SP has alleviated this a bit by cancelling its ability to wake the device while disabled in the system settings; 1.006SP still allowed DC button device wake even while disabled). If this were my primary phone, I would probably commit more time to it, but maybe I will after a little more feedback from yall currently working on it.

I would hold up on purchasing if you think what has been posted thus far is automatically going to lead to custom ROMs to the extent of what you are saying...at all. First off, this phone is currently running 4.0.4 ICS and not even 4.1 JB (so jumping to 4.2 on a phone without wide usership and development would require you to step in, crack your knuckles and figure some stuff out). And, second, there would, likely, have to be some serious porting & dev efforts to fathom anything you just said after seeing a single report of unstable root access. To put things in perspective, this 2-page thread is just about the only public forum activity pertaining the the Torque's root...pretty dismal.
So root for this phone actually is working on the stock rom, and allows bloatware removal & root roms?
I could care less about custom roms, kernels, whatnot. I'm still running an Evo 4G, and would love to be able to pick up this phone for the DC, so that I don't have to carry two cell phones everywhere (My Evo, and the work-issued Direct Connect phone).
I don't care about the latest & greatest (as evidenced by my "ancient" Evo), so this phone would be an upgrade over what I have... assuming that root is available so that I can remove bloatware, add Titanium Backup, Quick Boot, SetCPU, Wireless Tether, and Roam Control.
On my Evo, I run the stock rooted ROM, with the bloatware stripped out & the above Root apps... that's the only reason I need root.

The next question is which release version are you guys using when attempting root with motochopper? It is now at 1.007SP. I attempted a few different methods while on 1.006SP without success. Personally, I only would like root for general reasons (Titanium Backup to efficiently backup/restore/transfer apps between wipes and possibly tethering) along with reprogramming/disabling the DC button (though 1.007SP has alleviated this a bit by cancelling its ability to wake the device while disabled in the system settings; 1.006SP still allowed DC button device wake even while disabled). If this were my primary phone, I would probably commit more time to it, but maybe I will after a little more feedback from yall currently working on it.
I would hold up on purchasing if you think what has been posted thus far is automatically going to lead to custom ROMs to the extent of what you are saying...at all. First off, this phone is currently running 4.0.4 ICS and not even 4.1 JB (so jumping to 4.2 on a phone without wide usership and development would require you to step in, crack your knuckles and figure some stuff out). And, second, there would, likely, have to be some serious porting & dev efforts to fathom anything you just said after seeing a single report of unstable root access. To put things in perspective, this 2-page thread is just about the only public forum activity pertaining the the Torque's root...pretty dismal.

Hi guys it was 1.0006. SP that I rooted at first I had the same problems with superuser at first. So I wiped my phone and used motochop again. Still I had no su ability. So I tried super one click to see if I could get it to fix the root and it said I had root access. Then I went back into superuser and granted permission to then updated the permission and busybox. It worked for me until I had 1.007 SP pushed to my phone and superuser stopped working I'm trying to find a fix and I will. My phone still shows root access I just think we need a superuser that work right.

I don't care about the latest & greatest (as evidenced by my "ancient" Evo), so this phone would be an upgrade over what I have... assuming that root is available so that I can remove bloatware, add Titanium Backup, Quick Boot, SetCPU, Wireless Tether, and Roam Control.
On my Evo, I run the stock rooted ROM, with the bloatware stripped out & the above Root apps... that's the only reason I need root.

Not sure what you are gathering with what has been written so far, but, NO. Feel free to buy a Torque and start testing with everyone though.

I have one on each, but I will try on my 1.006SP one first and see what I get. I have to hold off on my updated 1.007SP one because I have to take it in for some hardware issues (no camera focus and one of the faux screws fell out on the front). About to check it out with motochopper on 1.006 (but I think I have already). I will report back.
Update:
So, on 1.006SP, after motochopper, I have shell root using ADB on my PC but no apps recognize root access on the device itself. I am tempted to just allow 1.007SP to install and try from there. It is going to get to a point where everyone has the OTA installed anyway...if that becomes the case, it will be pointless to have root attained on an older version (unless a downgrade option becomes available).

Wanted to know if anyone has already figured out or through a different method, can help me root my phone.
It's an LG phone under GSM technology by TracFone for Walmart Straight Talk service. the Model is "LG l21g" or "lgl21g".
It is specifically running Android 5.0.1
I've learned it's better to follow a root process specifically made for the exact model of your phone. But since TracFones lack much in rooting fame, I'm hoping that there is a safe method used to provide basic root access to phones/devices that have the respective OS. For which in my case is version 5.0.1
I am new to rooting but not computers in general. I have searched for quite a while for a way to root my device by model. I've found nothing, and AndroidArea51 seemed to have a little success, but are not sharing a clear tutorial sadly. But I am skeptical about 1 click root apps and how they may tend root the device for a few months before unrooting automatically and then forcing the device owner to pay to root again. You know, the old regular malicious hijacking software you can't get rid of without a hard reset or what not.
I am also aware of locked bootloaders but am not sure of what it means for my request to root. Should i unlock mine if it is locked in order to root? Or is it unnecessary unless i want to flash a new rom onto my device? I've obviously read things online, but am still learning the relationships of all these things

Hope your holidays were great and thanks for your comment. I am very skeptical of software such as kingroot and iroot and others of the same nature that are usually one-click root types. Though i'm not against using it if it's the only way to root less popular devices such as ours, i would rather have a little tutorial/guide on how to use the app/software to root the device then get rid of that app and its bloatware (and any other malicious ware that comes from it) and sustain a more honest or reliable superuser app/access to more precisely control the permissions that apps from the app store demand before download and use.

Busybox will not install correctly either for me. I have successfully achieved root access though through kingroot. I don't remember the version I used but it has been rooted for well over 2 months with zero issues. I have replaced my bootanimations without bootloops as well.
I am currently trying to romdump and pull device tree to see if I can get a KDZ created or ported. As I am trying to get twrp recovery installed. And I think the only way for that to happen is to get to 5.1. But to answer any doubt. My experience with kingroot has been okay. Also rootchecker apps confirm root as well.

Thanks for your reply. I apologize for not being able to understand all the technical jargon when it comes to the android platform, but as i ask questions, i can pick up on it fairly quickly.
For now i take it that you are still figuring out a way to backup your android system, since the only offer the LG Destiny has, is to back up your data to google cloud. It seems that either tracfone devices took that ability away (since i think that any computer like device should have a recovery system - though i could be wrong) or it is a flaw in android 5.0.1 which is what our devices are running.
I take it that you are "romdump"-ing to kinda like create a clone in a storage space which you can turn into a recovery rom in case the device messes up - i think.
I'm glad to hear that Kingroot worked for you. I would like to try it too but i would first love to back up my system entirely so that if a noob like me does mess up, i haven't completely lost everything.
Can i ask you if you are able to delete/uninstall bloatware from your Destiny now that you have it rooted. But you say that you are not able to install supersu (which i assume is software that lets you control your device with admin rights)? Reading things online, i've come to see that kingroot has a supersu type of software, but that it's inferior or malicous or something, hence why people are trying to install supersu in replacement. I may be missing some facts there, but i'm always see a relationship between the two.
Would you lose your root access, or ability to remove bloatware and control other app permissions if you removed kingroot? Or is it supersu that retains the root access that kingroot achieved, but people are ridding their devices of kingroot because kingroot inevitably introduces its own bloatware at the price of a rooted device?
Sorry to sound all over the place. I've just seen a consistent connection between kingroot and supersu online everywhere i look. I've never seen how either of these apps work on a device once installed, but i do know that people are always using supersu right after using kingroot.
Exactly, for the LG leon user they got the update to 5.1 which enabled them to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery for the ability to back up the rom. As for us Destiny users I think we aren't going to ever get anything but root for a while. And yes kingroot does install its own bloat ware. And I have removed all the stock bloatware that came with my phone.

Were you able to somehow successfully backup your Destiny's rom to use as a recovery source? I myself just went through a whole lot of folly and have practically lost my device. I believe my spoiled Destiny is soft-bricked. It will not boot past the LG logo screen. I don't think it's looping since it doesn't fade to black and return repetitively. It's just frozen on that screen. Now i'm diving deep and reading a whole lot more about such problems and solutions, and am learning much more. But sadly, the design Tracfone has left the Destiny (and most likely it's other android models alike) is quite handicapped. I've come to understand that there is absolutely no boot menu with particular options you'd normally find in flagship models, and recovery only works if, well, if the device still works (as far as i've tried everything i know). Part of that recovery would make sense if content was the only concern. Though any system based malfunction is merely a complete loss. I have yet to download and try a few pc applications that others use to connect to their android devices. But since needing exact phone/model firmware or system image backup to fix many android issues are what these pc applications use, and LG having completely omitted the lgl21g model from all their lists on their site (except for the product landing page of course), I have no idea how it would help my situation. For all I've said, i may stand corrected, since i have yet to attempt the revival of my device.
So i hope no one gets annoyed when i ask weird questions, but i'll do what i can and document my findings. If you or anyone else may know how to help me, I would very much appreciate it. If you need more info from me. let me know.

I ordered an LG Exceed 2 VS450PP, but haven't received it yet. Looks like the device can be rooted and the bootloader unlocked, but there don't seem to be any custom ROMs avaialble for the device.

Well, I've read about some customs roms for this device by some developer, but it seemed faulty and made me wary about using them. Can't really remember if it was this rom, but it's probable.
Now, another thing I'd like to point out is that the latest LG Exceed 2 models seem to be updated, so they aren't anymore VS450PP, instead now they are VS450PP2! At least that's my case, I ordered mine from Amazon on late Christmas just so you guys know the date. So, since the device received an update, I don't think it safe trying methods intended for older versions.
About rooting, I just got mine today and when I tried using Towel Root it didn't work, but thanks to this I was able to root, using the very same Towel Root. I quote:
'Just hitting Make it Rain gave me the message that my phone wasn’t supported, but after I changed the Mod string to 1337 0 0 0 4 0 it ran fine.'
By the way, the root seems to be permanent. Rebooted the phone and no changes.
What I'd like to do, though, is installing, or at least be able to boot into recovery to make a backup before wiping bloatware. But since I have no guarantee I don't know what to do yet. Here's unbloating guide that might prove useful:

Well, I am hoping I will be able to install custom reocvery, like TWRP, to make a backup. Then debloating as well as trying out the ROM above wouldn't be risky.

I just used the towel root method using the Mod strings from previous post and used the apk you linked to install the TWRP Recovery with out issues. It completed a backup to the SD card with out issues also.

if you look on the bar code of the box it shows SKU LG-VS450PP and Software version VS450PP2
So it would seem the phone has not changed just the base software that comes installed.

this is one of the best ROMs I've seen yet for the VS450pp and its 5.1.1 based! all the other ROMs available are 4.4.2 based.
Fixed home button by editing Generic.kl from /system/usr/keylayout changed key 102 to HOME and key 172 to MOVE_HOME

I'd forgotten what it's like to have an unrooted phone. I just got a T-Mobile LG K7 & am looking for a way to root it. The only info I found was a long thread on Android Forums by people who tried to root the K7 with KingRoot. The LG K7 is not on the list of phones that KingRoot supports, and the results looked iffy. (ex, It works fine if I stand on my right foot, pat my head and whistle the national anthem...)
Anyway I just thought I'd ask here. I'm no Android dev... just like having the phone rooted. I rooted my last 2 phones, but it's been so long that I hardly remember the steps involved.

Took the leap with KingRoot. It worked fine for the T-Mobile version of LG K7. At first KR put up a msg saying there was a problem-- do I want to try root anyway? I said Yes & it worked with no other issues. Super-easy.

Have you found a custom rom? I've been looking for va cyanogen 13 mod for a few days. I'm a total noob with this but I'm very tech savvy. anyways.... as I said I started the whole root my phone project to free up memory. I've accomplished that. I've rooted my phone with king root and I've sent a lot of apps to my SD card. But now the hacker nerd in me wants to install android marshmallow. So we're kind of at time point U just seem way more experienced St this. I have built quite a few android based kodi boxes so I guess I'm not a total noon but this is my first exposure to rooting so having some lone to at least bounce around ideas with would be excellent. Ermmm... that would be no. I've rooted and flashed roms on my last 2 phones, but I got forum help. I don't know the nuts & bolts. Your best bet would be to create a thread & collaborate.
It's important to get a rom & recovery specific both to your phone provider & phone model. Ex, I have a T-Mobile LG K7. If I try to flash a rom for metro pcs LG K7, anything could happen... it may refuse to flash. It might flash & brick. It might actually work, but why take the chance?
If you find a rom somewhere online, be careful about the source. Unless you know what you are getting, you could be in for trouble. Don't try it without getting feedback on a trustworthy forum.

I rooted my k7 TMobile w kingroot and then used the wolfdroid method of removing the kingo superuser w terminal emulator and replacing it with superSu. I've actually had alot less problems w rooting than a y other phone. Problem is the factory recovery isn't a normal recovery and we'll probably never have a custom recovery or rom for the TMobile version atleast I heard that u can do it w metro pcs version. Even chainfires flashfire says they haven't been testing w lg so if anyone hears anything new I'd love to hear it

I just picked up a K7 at my local T-Mobile store and have been trying to get it rooted with no luck. My first thought was my usual: Towelroot. when that didn't work I looked it up and saw that some people were having luck with kingroot. I've tried time and time again to root it and have yet to have any luck. Help?
KingRoot rooted my T-Mobile K7. I did have an issue when it ran. A message came up that said something like: KingRoot can't root this phone in the usual way, but there's alternative approach. Do you want to try it? Yes/No. (Lol.. not the exact words). I was worried but went ahead with it. It worked just fine.
I can't help beyond telling you that it does work with the T-Mobile model. Definitely try it again. If it doesn't work, you might try uninstalling & deleting your KR download-- then do a new DL, just in case. You probably already know, but be sure to install a root checker so you can verify the results.
Maybe somebody more knowledgeable can tell you more.

Quick update: After using KingRoot, I wanted SuperSU instead of having KR processes running in the background all the time. Tried Super-Sume (Google store). It wasn't free, but it did the trick & I'm a happy camper.
Can't say that I like some of the Android changes in the upgrade from KitKat to Lollipop, tho... especially having to deal with permissions every time I want to cut/paste/delete in storage. The emulated storage thing seems iffy, but maybe it has its benefits (?)

I too was able to root using Kingroot. My dilemma is upgrading from 5.1 to 6.0. I managed to fetch a rom claiming to be 6.0 for the k7 but cannot flash it for the likes of me.

If ur on T-Mobile I did it w kingroot then use w0lfdr0id method on terminal emulator to replace kinguser. I've also been told that u can use superSume if u need that or any help pm me
KingRoot does work, it takes several tries and reboots but i got it to work and stick. I know it's frustrating but it will work with the T-Mobile LG K7 (K330) if you are using the newest version of KingRoot without the 5.1.1 "Security Update". If you have installed the update I cannot confirm it will work. The Software version K33010f is what I have. The update moves you to Software version K33010h.
I do not like KingUser, and I tried the Super-Sume app from the Play Store for $3.99. It said I didnt have KingRoot installed so it would not work. I don't know why, it seemed to work for others. I am stuck with KingUser for now.
I've downloaded kingroot directly onto my device and rooted my T-Mobile k7 that way.i did decide to unroot becuase I wanted to learn a little more about the benefits of the process etc. I don't have a computer to use at the moment but I'm thinking of rooting again. I've been told if you root you also need a custom recovery like TWRP. Is this true?

Discovered that the version Verizon is selling (notably the slickdeals thread on the one from Visible) is different. It's -2 vs. -4.
Looks like VZW disabled most of the bands that T-Mobile/Sprint use - 25, 41, 71, for example.
Looking to see if it's possible to enable those bands. One report on SD thread says they bricked their device trying RETUS version but IDK if the bootloader needs to be unlocked first, or if it would even help. Probably more work to unlock these bands if it's even possible.

I'm going to guess as is the case with most other Android devices branded by Verizon that the bootloader will be restricted from being unlocked. There is really no way around this as it's an OEM based policy. If you want to play with custom ROMs or root based modding, I would highly recommend ditching the Verizon or any other carrier branded variant with the exception of T-Mobile/Metro and Google Fi (there are others) that actually allow OEM unlock. Not only that, but if you're looking for certain connectivity bands, you don't want to settle for a carrier device variant designed to use a particular set of bands which don't include the ones you need. No sense getting a Verizon variant to run on T-Mobile/Sprint bands when you can, you know, get the T-Mobile variant in the first place. Get the global unlocked variant model if you can and start from there. Far easier than the headaches you'll get trying to transform VZW to TMUS.
Cross-flashing is not going to unlock bands, you need to change modem configuration. Throw your SoC(Mediatek) followed by "unlock bands" into Google and see if you have any luck.

I think I have enough understanding of how to sideload the app, I just need something to send the phone. I tried using a random TWRP mod on it but it fails, invalid signature. I haven't tried doing the phone rooting thing in years now, but I have this Moto G Pure phone without any service on it that I'm willing to experiment on. It can be used as a test bed or data extraction device to put code from it on the internet if someone needs it to help custom rom makers for example by testing stuff on it. Perhaps that's why no one has a custom recovery for it yet.
I don't know exactly how to extract the phones current ROM data so all I've done so far is unlock the bootloader. The phone's carrier based on the unactivated sim card shows it's a T-Mobile branded device, but the T-Mobile and other carrier software is inactive other than the few Moto apps. An article on XDA say's the phone's suck, but that's just not true at least not to me. It's a fine phone like it is, but if I can format it's SSD and only install what I want it to have on it that would be great. It's just a spare sim locked phone that I can't use my active sim card in. So with that it's now a project phone. I would like to mainly just unbloat it and free up all that used space occupied by the recovery partition. I don't necessarily need a whole new ROM, just want to root it. That's the only way to erase those factory files that I know of.
For me unlocking the bootloader wasn't to hard to do. You have to make sure the drivers from Motorola are installed and have a current version of ADB available on a computer. I still had a version of ADB tools that was almost a decade old now so I had to update that for the fastboot oem_unlock_unlockcode (automated code from Motorola support) command to work. When it should really be more like 2-3 GB for the entire system. I hate how Google just inserts itself in your life even when you don't want it at all.
I anyone passing by reading this post needs more details please let me know and I'll try to get the information or even data files from the phone. Would a copy of it's stock firmware be of any help? If so let me know how I would go about saving a copy of it. I'll keep looking for answers but it seems this phone is not high on the priority list or is new or something. So there is only scam guides trying to tell you "How to unlock your phone" or "Install TWRP on Motorola devices" and other clearly click bait sites. I can't even find the stock rom for it on Motorola's site, just outdated versions from 2016, with different build numbers, that can't be right.

There currently isn't a custom recovery mod for this model as far I can tell. hey i just came up on one of these today, nice phone considering... Any luck with trying to find a custom recovery? I have been looking as well but development seems pretty sparse right now. I am in the same boat as you, unlocked bootloader, locked everything else lol. I cant even find a way to root it without TWRP! Well I was able to use Magisk to "root" it with the patched boot file trick, but still that's not the same thing as I did before with a Samsung phone and the CWM recovery deal. That gave the user all the control they wanted. Even though the phone claims I have root access, I'm not sure what to do with Magisk's root trick. I still don't see a way to backup or install a different operating system or just a blank Android 11 OS. My knowledge there is limited and there isn't a custom recovery for this model as far as I can tell.
So I still can't wipe the drive or remove the OEM partition that contains the installers for the bundled stuff. I'd still need some form of interface that has more features than the stock Fastboot and Bootloader modes offer I guess, or I just don't know how to use the software tools correctly. It's still locked even with root as far as I can tell but if there is something more I'm missing or an additional app to install for example, like SU. Is that still a thing? If I'm on the right track let me know.

Thanks for the reply!!! I am speaking from a place of semi-ignorance here but I would thing that you could install SuperSU from inside the system, right? As long as the root binary is there...idk though and from what I hear, chainfire is not responsible for SuperSU anymore so it has become somewhat sketchy. I saw a post (about this phone, I think) that mentioned having to install terminal emulator and running root command from there to achieve legit root after flashing the patched boot.img. I will see if I can find the post again and update you. Is there anyway you could post the boot.img? Or give me a link for it?

Well I can try and learn how to extract the phones information to my computer. I don't know how to do that exactly. The way I was able to get a hold of the phones stock firmware data was by using Lenovo's Smart Rescue and Recovery software.
You have to enable usb debugging mode, attach the phone to the computer with the software running and make sure that you didn't disable/delete Device Help. That app is what makes the Lenovo software work, otherwise the Recovery software fails to see the phone. If it sees the phone correctly then you can see the preselected target firmware it wants you to download under the Rescue tab along the top.
So I did that and grabbed the files it created without actually applying them to the device. The whole thing is a little over 2GB and difficult to host but I put the stock boot.img file here for anyone who needs it. If anyone wants all the files I can try to upload the whole thing one file at at time. That's the way it was sent to me, an uncompressed folder. If I zip it all up and try to upload it most sites will say file size exceeded. Anyway here's the link...

Thanks I was able to patch it with Magisk and achieve root. It looks like Magisk is an SU manager anyway. I have never used it before so this is a first for me. The root and bootloader unlock seem a little pointless without any recovery or ROM though....I guess it's time to learn how to compile one lol
I just picked up the Moto G Pure (XT2163-4) Android 11 aka Red Velvet Cake *sounds yummy lol*....I've been searching around and not seen any info about any rooting method for this device....besides the "Root All Motorola Phones" crap...and I don't feel like risking making a paper weight with it. Even on here it doesn't show up in the...add device list....was going to add to my profile...but can't.

Yeah now we're on the same page then. I thought the same thing, not much use to have an unlocked boot loader and root access without software to make use of it. I gave the phone to my nieces to play with for now, but it's with in arms reach if I need it for instructions yet to be defined. I should receive updates to this post if anyone else responds.

Yeah appears it was produced in late 2021 or sold at that time so it's new and no one has made any custom firmware's or recoveries for it as far as I know. I don't know how to do that, requires computer programming skills. I don't have any of those.

I feel your pain! Had mine a few days and of course came to XDA immediately to find the DL on this joint but no luck... Ya I definitely don't recommend one click root method for this. If you want, I can post/link the patched boot.img i made with magisk. Mine boots with it and have confirmed root.

Excellent, it's nice to be caught up with everyone else haha!! I am going to do some digging and posting and whatnot to try to find some info on porting a recovery for this model. I feel like it can't be too different from at least one or two of the other G series phones. I will see updates as well so please post if you come up with anything!!

Good luck finding anything that will load onto the phone. Seems like it would be possible to install LineageOS on it if nothing else. You'd think by now installing a phone's operating system would be similar to how operating systems are installed on other computers. All I get is invalid signature, way to much security (for them) on phone OS'es. With phones and PDA's apparently you can't just find the OS you want to use and install it. Where's the generic and bloat free Andriod 11 stock OS/firmware at? No such thing? It's either "Gaggles" way or nothing apparently. (It's ok if you don't know either, maybe someone else has more information about that.)

Ya I'm definitely not going to try anything on the actual device, (ESPECIALLY if I am trying to put it together myself) but I am pretty sure you can test that stuff on a virtual system. Some kind of android emulator or whatever. As for a stock/debloated/de-odexed ROM, I haven't seen one but that couldn't be all that difficult to put together, right? I mean as long as the patched boot.img is included anyway. I feel like a recovery would be a higher priority though...? BTW, I have never used Lineage before, how is it?

Hey boys I actually got rid of the moto g pure...for now at least lol! GREAT phone and I would be willing to get it back once there is some dev work done on it...will definitely be watching the threads on it. Good luck boys!!!
