Agreed this 509 firmware is stagefright patched and was built like 5 weeks ago and its 5.0.2 I think this is all were getting and since the Z4v is no longer coming out I belive 5.0.2 is the end of the road for the Z3v. This 509 firmware is good though.
I can understand your frustration, but I wouldn't take it for 100% that Sony is intentionally excluding the Z3V... They will probably send the marshmallow firmware to Verizon, and because of that, we'll probably never receive it unless we get a lucky leak, but I doubt that because I don't think it'll even be a candidate for Internal Testing as I'm sure Verizon plans to push Lollipop, fulfill their year old promises, and be done with their EOL device.. so even if Sony does send them the firmware, Verizon is most likely going to sit on it until it's buried... But you have to think with articles like these, even if they are press statements from Sony, it's still likely that they could leave out the Z3V unintentionally because even though its a variant of the Z3, by saying the Z3 is getting the update, they could be collectively including the Z3V along with that... but either way, I agree that we'll most likely never get this update, and that sucks.... But I do think Verizon is going to give us the latest Lollipop for sure.... There's no reason not to jump it to 5.1.1 if Sony gave them the firmware, it's not a major update... I think they just wanted a solid Lollipop build in "testing" (an intentional leak out there to collect usage stats from people bold enough to flash it) with stagefright patches, etc to make sure they had a solid build before putting the finishing touches on the firmware. There is a different Kernel in the .509 version than the .485, as well as some other interesting differences that make me think they're gearing it for the latest Lolllipop... and really as long as we get that with working VOLTE.... I can be happy enough with that.

the thought did cross my mind that they would update 509 the rest of the way to 5.1.1 now that stagefright patch is out for z3 5.1.1 because it may be bad for business to have us on firmware we shouldn't have. I don't even care really Verizon made me sick with this shiit I guess I have to get a nexus phone next but I'm not doing that till they firgure out how to but an SD card in a phone. And thank you for your work and getting the ball rolling on Lollipop.

Thanks so much for the recognition. Somehow my leaked FTF of Lollipop was taken down, so I wasn't even sure if people still knew that I was the one that brought us that first Lollipop leak. I'm going to build us an amazing rom too.. I'm just waiting on Verizon to push their official build so that I won't be wasting my time building an outdated rom lol... U know like last time :/

you know are phones should be pretty close to being able to be unlocked by Verizon I was looking on eBay and there are unlocked Z3V's I dont know if they kept the drm keys but anyway once they release the final version..and we get our bootloader unlocked then we can go crazy. (edit)Unless that's a carrier unlock Im not sure if that unlocks the bootloader or if their the same.

I think they mean carrier unlocked, which all vzw phones are now, since like the Galaxy S4. Boot loader and carrier unlock are two completely different things.

It was written on September 1st one day after ours was (509)-5.0.2 so maybe........ Soon or not it's Verizon.

Maybe leaked Marshmallow FTF for the Z3v soon.

I wasn't trying to be rude either I have had this phone for almost a year since it first came out and have received no support for this phone at all I have spent literally hundreds of hours trying to fix this phone myself because verzions incompetence I'm not sure for the reason for the leak or how it happened but I doubt very much we will receive 6.0 and I don't really give a **** I would just like them to realease a Lollipop version so I can have a feature I was promised a year ago -advanced calling. Also quick charge 2.0 is a listed feature- it's not. Verizon = Liars. Look at the Z4v that's a disaster to.

I am pretty tough skinned, it takes more than what you said to be considered "rude" to me.
I agree B.S. what VZW has done with the Advanced Calling 1.0, I am tired of getting the stepchild phones and VZW keeping us from getting the next OS release due to heavy-handed control. I mean Z3 getting a beta test for Marshmallow, seriously? Maybe the guy who got the leak can get Marshmallow leak, but I would like to have the latest OS if possible and I am sure others will agree.
An AOSP with a unlocked bootloader, I miss those days.

Man it was so great to have the Droid when it first came out. ROM competition was tremendous and you could lead anything you wanted; if you could dream it, someone was already working on it.

I have a similar experience. My last phone was a Galaxy Nexus, it was an embarrassment of riches as far as being able to modify it. Different ROMs everywhere you looked, modified kernels, etc... Thanks to baldwinguy77 I was running KitKat 3 days after Google introduced it, even before any manufacturers had released phones with it.
The Xperia's lack of popularity with the general public is probably the cause of it's noticeable lack of developer interest. Few devs have one so few work on it.
I really like the phone, it's battery life is second to none. I may have to be satisfied running Lollipop but at least it is rooted so there's that.

Hey, I am about to upgrade and I will likely hold out for the new Motorola phone, but if it is a disappointment then the G3 is a very interesting option.
Curious what to look for as far as custom ROMs are concerned. I am addicted to running custom ROMs however I have had a Nexus phone lately so the whole unlocking/rooting/hackability has never been an issue. I see the the G3 has root, but I presume something else must be done before a custom recovery can be installed...thus no custom ROMs.
I love the G3s hardware, but I will never love OEM software. I want stock Android and I am hoping that will be possible with the Moto X+1 and/or the G3.
Thanks guys and gals
I'm pretty sure once someone can find an exploit to unlock the boot loader, we'll see a custom recovery as well as a few roms shortly after. I don't think there will be stock android until CM adds G3 support
I have faith in the devs that they'll eventually unlock this phone. It's been said in a few places that the security isn't as tough as say in the S4 for example.
That said though... This phones stock experience really isn't bad IMO. Best stock I've ever had. Being rooted and with xposed it's quite tolerable.
I'm a crack flasher though so believe me the itch is there!

Agree totally
If you want a flagship phone that will definitely run custom roms, I believe the htc one m8 is it for now. I agree with the other posters that the G3 will likely get a bootloader unlock at some point, but there are no guarantees. That said, the stock rom has a similar look and feel to the cm 11 rom I was running on my galaxy s3. While not AOSP, it doesn't annoy me the way touchwiz did and I won't have buyer's remorse if the bootloader stays locked.

haha ok i will throw in my desk drawer then and hope it gets unlocked!!!
This thread is pointless! Asking will there ever be custom ROMs? Of course there will be. But what you and many others fail to remember is that these phones are harder and harder to crack each time. Only reason the M8 had root and S-Off so quickly is jcase had a 3yr old vuln that wasnt patched yet. They patched it and then he had to spend more time and money cracking it again and he made a new version, which he charged for since it was such a PITA. Look how long it took the S5 to get it. Just be happy we have root.
If you are so worried about not having an unlocked bootloader, you should get rid of Verizon and get AT&T or Tmo that supports devices that are unlocked right from the manufacture. They will always have Nexus devices and other cool ones Verizon will never see since they dont allow none Verizon devices on their network.

I don't believe it is a "pointless" thread or question. GS5 doesn't have an unlocked bootloader and who knows if they ever will. They have an exploit to run essentially stripped down versions of the stock ROM but that is it. I have not intentions on switching carriers I was simply asking what the status of the G3 was as far as unlocking was concerned.
Thank you to everyone else that responded, I think the G3 is still a viable option for me. I am going to wait to see what Motorola puts out there, but if I don't like it I'll pull the trigger on the G3.
I think it is pointless because you're asking people to predict the future. Nobody can answer the question. Therefore, the question is pointless.
This thread has outlived it's usefulness.
The progress of this device's development can be followed by reading the threads in it's forum.
When progress is made it will be reported in either the general or development sections.

We can have s-off for a fee but i noticed on the sunshine thread people were waiting to use it because they updated. Im not sure its worth the 25 bucks for me but also dont want to update then possibly regret it...

I already own HTC One M7 and I have CM12 on it.
My Desire 610 will be stock and that's that. I don't care about anything, just need that Lollipop update.
Also I think that the release won't be this month. Probably the end of April but it's only my assumption.
Hopefully it's wrong.

Wouldnt surprise me. Originally sources stated the 3rd quarter of 2015 then someone here said march, and when i checked that was also true???
As far as s-off...im on the fence. Having it doesnt mean instant development of custom roms. This phone's coming up on a year and i get the feeling that ship has sailed. Essentially looks like itll be stock anyways. I only get the red message when booting to recovery so $25 isnt justifiable. But im hoping to have a reason to get it soon...
Well they missed the target with lollipop in march and now we're approaching mid April...of course this isn't news to most all of you but when I go to HTC ROM downloads site I see that ruu hasn't changed in a long time. Anyone know how that works? Do they only release certain updates in ruu format?
I'm just wondering if they'll put it on the site in a timely fashion or if I'm better off locking it up again and unrooting to take the ota...

We would sooner get 4.4.4. Lollipop is just a fantasy on this device unless someone builds it for us.
http://htcsource.com/2015/01/leaked-document-reveals-htcs-lollipop-update-roadmap/
This is Not the particular article I read but if I find it I'll post it. Seems the device is more than capable of running it. I don't understand the business aspect entirely but I think since its still a relatively new phone they'd want to push the latest os.
Edit--most definitely right in assuming we won't be getting it soon. I remember reading awhile back 610 would be getting it in the 3rd quarter (probably early fall?) But then someone posted a "leak" here saying march or April the latest. Of course I was willing to believe. Now I see a schedule that puts us in what looks like the 4th quarter! Who knows...I think we'll get lollipop, I'm just not certain I'll still be using this phone when we do.

I think that leaked schedule online is accurate (which means I may not be using lollipop) I can't justify buying it now but I'm considering an s4 from swappa. Its not a definite but if lollipop doesn't come till around Xmas...that's a long time to wait. By that time other users might be anticipating the next OS!

Hello everyone,
I made a petition about our favorite phone to get another update from Sony.
You can sign here
Phone/ROM-related petitions never work. Plus we won't have 100K people signing it - XDA isn't as big as you think, and people outside XDA just don't care or don't even know what's Marshmallow at all.

Well, companies have their own practices and strategies....merely left behind certain product will sometimes benefits that company for a long time even some owner not happy about it....i think i understand some avid users will do this to get attention...but i also know why big company will not listen...maybe they care, maybe they don't but i think if you want to apply updated program or software to certain device is expensive....to want a profit, they need to do this i think...left the product that users a gradually left behind....
Why is having marshmallow important anyway? Nothing after android 4.3 really impressed me. Every new version is buggy and harder to root and the next version tries to only resolve those bugs and introduces other bugs. But I wish you well with your goal and I hope your petition works.
like I said before in another thread. I love my ultra and how it works on KitKat 4.4.4. the battery last longer and some apps work on KitKat that don't on lollipop. I've been on lollipop 5.0.2 rooted and on 5.1.1 rooted and I didn't like it and went back to KitKat 4.4.4. KitKat work very good with my ultra and i'll stay on it till it quits working or sell it. so I don't care for lollipop and marshmallow
I donĀ“t think enough Ultras were sold to start a petition...

Yup, and that's why we have no freakin' idea if it gets M. I sure hope it does, but it's impossible to tell. We'll notice in a week or two though. Cross your fingers!
go to sony official blog. the chance to be heard are bigger there. it's useless making a petition for this kind of issue.
I think, this is pure speculation, GPE has to be joint effort between Sony and Google.. Sony provide the bootloader and kernel and probably recovery too.
Google can then take a bootable platform and build Android on it.

I think another question should be whether xzu owners would be willing to pay, say, $10 for an upgrade. I would.

Sony released the 6.0 binaries earlier this week, which are proprietary Sony drivers which allows ROM developers to get AOSP running on our devices, so maybe they gave those to Google too, so they can port 6.0 to the GPe(?). I don't know. I'm not sure how the GPe program works at that level, so I guess all we can do at this point is to wait and see. (Give it 2-3 weeks)
So does anyone know if GPe version of Z Ultra is getting Marshmallow? I can't find info on this..If they get it, it can be ported to regular XZU as well, right?

Pm for now to avoid possible email spamming.
As for all the others who read this, here is a little more explanation:
He is the technical chief officer of zte and stands in direct contact with the dev team. He is also the reason we got the zip for disabling system write protection in the first place. Without him i wouldn't have gotten the update.zip (with disabled system write protection) and @raystef66 couldn't have made a flashable zip for us.
Great contact! Thanks.
Anyway to get the PIE IMS so we can get wifi calling working on Oreo or Pie?

VoLTE should work on any of the big Oreo ROMs. WFC is hit or miss (even on stock ROM). I'm assuming Oreo is gonna be the last android version we can install and still have these things work (unless some dev out there finds a way to get past this roadblock in the future). Either way, I kinda doubt ZTE would provide any further updates for us beyond Oreo. I'm assuming that the response given in the OP meant that they would fix everything that's still broken and missing on 8.0; not begin development for Pie (especially since the Axon 10 is just around the corner, pulling resources into a 3-year-old phone just isn't a sound decision from a business standpoint).

It is if ZTE expect some form of customer loyalty on future purchase decisions. Would you buy the Axon 10/11/12 etc. based on your Axon 7 experience? Yes they had disruptions from trade sanctions etc. but that's not the consumers fault and imo ZTE should be doing everything they can to restore faith in their brand.
They're basically starting again.
They need an affordable flagship like the Axon 7 was. If they don't, it will be hard to gather enough sales to start a customer pool and try for return purchase later on.
Current customers are wary, sceptical and untrusting after that whole fiasco and rightly so.

They just need to copy and paste the Axon 7 with newer specs.
Maybe bumping it to 6" in order to have more internal space would do the trick.
I still can't understand how did they think that the Axon 9 Pro was a good idea. They litterally took all that was great about the A7 and...deleted it.
Now...a bit of an on topic question. Instead of releasing 8.0, could they not enter the Android One program with it...especially since they were aiming for stock experience?
Maybe it's been asked before, but what are the implications of entering the AO program, because IIRC, I may have read some time ago something about a partition not existing on the device and ZTE not gambling with a large release, but I can't remember specifically?

The vendor partition stuff is something else entirely. Some people believed that ZTE would bring Treble support to the Axon while that made very little sense (Treble is a requirement for phones that SHIP with Oreo and above, but it's optional for Oreo, and its main advantage is it makes it easier for OEMs to update major Android versions). It was developed by djkuz and NFound eventually anyways, but only because of the generic ROM benefits
I don't think you can simply slap Android One certification on the middle of a product's life, but even if they could, it would make absolutely zero sense for them... Why be commited to security updates and newer Android versions on a phone that has surely stopped giving any revenue since long ago? Plus I'm not even sure if people prefer stock Android to stuff like One UI where you have a bunch of options
Do not expect to much from ZTE for the Axon 7. Until now they did not release a stable OS and it will not change for the next update.

Marshmallow and Nougat were perfectly stable, if not the chinese versions. i'd say that counts.
The important thing is them fixing Daydream because it doesn't only entail adding daydream back, to run it properly you need to have thermals and the kernel properly tuned. Daydream should put the phone at ~1.3 GHz but I believe they'll have to mess around to make it work as intended anyways
plus all this is useful for LOS
Marshmallow and Nougat had a very bad design and UI because of mifavor. Oreo is nice but extremly unstable.

What next update?
I thought this device was EOL as far as zte was concerned. There hasn't been an official update since august of last year and that had a security update of july '18. That's 6+ months ago. I think we're on our own now....

Not ignoring OP at all... Simply going by zte's past actions. I've seen these sort of promises with other devices (moto x pure comes to mind) in the past. I'll believe it when I see it.
Got a link to this update from 2 weeks ago? What was the actual update?

All I'm saying is, @GodOfPsychos contacted this ZTE guy, he said that an update was going to be released, and then XDA'S EDITOR IN CHIEF contacted that guy and got the same response (with which an article was made). They can bail at any time, but it's not like they are promising Pie anyways
I'm guessing you can't see the attached screenie in the OP? I can see it just fine from XDA Labs
We won't get official Android Pie for Axon 7.
The most I read into that is update to include cut out features like Daydream, probably a security update too. Just a finish of what Oreo 8.0 was supposed to be. I don't think we will even see official Oreo 8.1
If they had just kept with the whole "best sounding phone" idea I'd probably already have bought another ZTE. It was the thing that distinguished them in the crowded market of samey-same phones. At this point I'm clinging to my Axon 7 with my tight little hands, and any update to its stability will be appreciated. [Full disclosure, I'm running the GSI Liquid Remix unofficial build of Pie, but if they do update the official Oreo and get it rock solid, I could see downgrading just to be on an official ROM.]
1) I noticed the Samsung Galaxy View 2 still appears to be active on the Samsung and AT&T Websites, but is currently out of stock globally and has been for a few months.
Does anyone know if this product is still in production?
-------------------
2) If it is still in production, and becomes available again, I do recommend this product for anyone looking for the largest available tablet.
Despite its shortcomings (only 1080p ips, mediocre processor and ram) it remains the largest tablet on the market, and I love mine.
-------------------
3) @deadman96385 I know you probably never want to look at Samsung View roms again after that last project, but if production continues on the View2, you may want to buy one :good: and then consider developing an Android 9.0 or 10.0 port (Currently on oreo 8.1).
I doubt it would be a pain like the original View rom. The awful proprietary charger from the View is replaced by standard Samsung usb C port at the very least.
This looks like yet again the only tablet on the market of this size. And it is, at the very least, popular enough to sell out.
The Oreo 8.1 is still supported by the vast majority of apps that don't require deep learning, and still holds 12% market share >>> but with google pushing 9.0 dev I think a 9.0 rom would vastly extend life of this tablet.
Thoughts?
Be well!
Oh are ATT bootloader still locked?
Oh wait are ATT bootloaders still locked with no way around? I thought Samsung devices were unlockable regardless.
If locked then I guess that makes my post irrelevant. Can someone confirm for me?

RIP. Understood. Thank you.
Then I will ask one last related question since you are qualified to answer:
How long do you see 8.1 Oreo remaining usable with the majority of app? From what I can tell from the dev release, 9.0 was made so that most apps developed for 9.0 API 28 can easily be backwards compatible with previous api. Is this true? Should I be confident apps will continue to run on oreo for some time to come?
This question should help anyone who stumbles across this thread decide whether or not to buy a used (or new if they ever resupply) Galaxy View2. Because I think if Samsung was going to update it to pi themselves they would have already.
BTW - on sale at best buy right now for $399.

I just grabbed one, to use for a project, but I admit that it's kinda brutal that it might be stuck at 8.0 forever. you cant even install Signal on it.
Hopefully a way around this appears to update it to 10.0 into the modern era. Must be why best buy dumped it -- recession plus shipped with end-of-life software

a lot of apps dont run on galaxy view 2. mail and youtube and maps will probably always run but lots of niche stuff doesnt run.
Hopefully someone figures out how to get this device from 8.0 to 10.0
Got my View 2 a few days ago and I'm loving it so far!
It would be such a game changer if someone could (somehow) get v10 running on the device.
Right now I can't get AT&T messaging working - I want to receive my text messages from my phone on the tablet - whenever I try to sign in to AT&T messaging I am immediately taken back to the AT&T Messaging login page. I've contacted AT&T support and they said they have created a ticket for support to resolve but not a lot of hope there... At least NumberSync is working.
From the sound of it, it seems it's very unlikely we'll ever see an OS upgrade which is sad but I'm enjoying device as of now!
i heard that samsung might change their mind and provide an update for it! but it might be thru at&t only
