Hello all,
I'm having trouble getting my device to run OTG. Every time I connect my OTG cable it says OTG charging on the notification however the option to mount USB storage stays grayed out.
Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks in advance for any help

Same here with (only) one OTG cable, but I have 2 cables, the second one work, I have, also, one micro-usb OTG adapter ( with multiple output, like USB, micro sd reader, and more ) and this one working too
So, I don't know why, but some OTG adapter don't work

The notification on my phone is only for charging as well, but when I open file manager I can find USB in storage and approach the files normally.
Strange, when I put an OTGcable with a usb memory in the port it works fine. Cables may differ?

hi XDA
I am having some strange behaviour with my USB OTG...
- charges OK
- connect USB OTG cable: phone says "USB host cable connected"
- connect a memory card reader: nothing (used to work previously though)
- connect a mouse: nothing (used to work previously though)
- plug into official Samsung car dock: car dock enabled, but only one stereo channel working (right channel)
- plug into PC: Windows says "unrecognized device"
..... SO
I was thinking: something wrong with my hardware
so I ordered a new USB hardware module on ebay
and I successfully fitted it
...however
...still no change ???
looks like it wasnt a hardware problem after all
USB debugging on or off: no difference
Anyone got the same or similar issues? OTG is a really useful feature for me so I hope I can fix this
Try plugging the card reader or whatever into the OTG cable, then plugging the other end of the OTG cable into the SGS2. That seems to give a much more reliable connection in my experience.

It is not the first time I am trying OTG. This summer I was travelling and posted >100 pictures to my blog. The correct order was: cable first, then memory card reader WITH memory card already inserted... in desperate attempts I tried several other combinations but without luck.
is there any way to built support (physically) for using USB OTG mounting and charging at the same time, say if im on a train and i have a portable charger... and want to watch a HD movie, i still want my charge
ive searched for micro usb HUBS but dont seem to see any, and above that, i dont know how i would get power to the phone from it
EDIT: also is there a way to safely remove usb without just pulling it from the phone? im talking about USB OTG mounting... using resurrection remix 1.4 w/ siyah3.1rc6 =]
you could try using a T cable , its a cable the has an input for power and an output in to the phone.

HDD DONT MOUNT
I connected my 350GB EXTERNAL HD formatted in FAT32, but it does not recognize in multimedia.
My Settings:
RK3066
MCU: KLD.2.78V
FIRMWARE: MALASKY LAST UPDATE
ROOT: YES
If I connect the 4GB pendrive it works normal, when connecting external HD, it only lights up but does nothing on the android.
I installed MountStikc (app) and it did not work, could someone tell me what the problem is?
It's probably a power issue. These units don't seem to output a lot of power over the USB ports. I had the issue where my USB HDDs didn't work on the unit but pendirves did. I got one of those USB cables that let you get power from 2 separate ports and that did the trick for me.

You'd have to use the USB ports on the back, if it has them...or a way to get power to it separately from the USB, if the drive has a separate power input, but that may be more trouble than its worth.
I'm pretty sure Nokia 7+ supports OTG.
I have an Aukey USB 3.0 A to C adapter into which I've plugged an Anker USB 3. 0 card reader. The phone does not recognise this as storage. Should it and, if so, what am I doing wrong, please?

Thanks. That's very helpful. How does one establish if a reader supports OTG? I need an SD card reader so can I assume the fcr-mlg4 will also work?
now i noticed, then you write about separate USB-A->C adapter and USB-A card reader... then i think not be problem with card reader (this not need support OTG if used with (right/working) OTG cable/adapter), but with your USB-A->C adapter, maybe not support OTG or is broken... can you try in this adapter put another USB Flash? and put in N7+ (after USB Flash putted to adapter)

then i think aukey adapter not suport OTG and is only for use with PC/Apple with USB-C conector... try buy another adapter, i don't post link to ebay because i don't know if adapter for $1 from china with OTG in description really have OTG support or is mistake/lying... try buy some from your local/country_eshop store with verifing with on vendor site or with shop support that is really with OTG... i see on me country eshop for example "Akasa AK-CBUB25-15BK" and vendor say is have OTG support, but sure you find also another...
edit: sorry i write akasa model with microUSB, this is with USB-C "Akasa AK-CBUB30-15BK"
http://www.akasa.com.tw/search.php?seed=AK-CBUB30-15BK
for this vendor not say OTG support, but have photo with phone/tablet, then i think OTG supported (and in description in me country eshop in description is OTG support)
OTG
Thanks k3dar7.
It had never occurred to me that a USB-C to USB-A adapter wouldn't have OTG support. I've ordered one from Amazon that, hopefully, will do the trick.
Many thanks for your help.

Just received AUKEY USB C Adapter to USB A ( 2 Pack ) with OTG USB Type C Converter https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074K38QC7/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 from Amazon and it works perfectly with OTG. I'm now very happy, thanks!
Hi gurus, just got this phone.....happily wanted to transfer all my music and movie files to ROG phone using OTG, but phone unable to detect the sd card !
tried using OTG dongle, sd card reader, even connect ROG phone to another type C phone using the original cable provided.....all failed.
emailed to Asus asking them, replied to me saying this phone does not support OTG !!!
WTF?!!
any gurus here tried connecting the OTG successfully??
I am using china otg from Oukitel mobile - I only had to buy USB-C reduction. Everything works perfectly
I'm using a 128GB USB 3.0 stick even formatted with NTFS via a USB-A to USB-C adapter without problems. Haven't tried it with an SD card reader as I don't own one.
Provided cable is optimized for charging only. You will need to find a data cable and use the side port, not the bottom port.
