Hi guys
my first love for C6802 until it start to show age then decided to repurchase Z ultra C6806. Now that I've shattered the digitizer, I repurchased another C6806.
I just love this phone size.
Moving forward, this one was bought pre-owned and came pre-installed with 5.1.1 unrooted.
How do i get 5.1.1. rooted the easiest way possible?
Depends if the bootloader is unlocked, and if you want to back up the TA partition.
bootloader:locked and I want it remain locked. 1st ultra i unlocked, i didnt backup TA partition and therefore my camera went ****ty and I lost bravia features

Alrighty. Btw, X-Reality works without the DRM keys. This was changed by Sony on KitKat, but yeah, the camera is a different story. There are a couple of guides in this section (general section), so you should probably go ahead and read them :good:

where ?! . i relock my bootloader because the problems on camera .. pictures are noisy .. is there any solution?!
.. hey guy you must flash 4.4.4 with flashtool then root it and install dualrecovery .. download 5.1.1 ftf and create pre rooted flashable zip rom with prf creator ..

A solution for the bad camera? Doesn't exist. Unlocking the bootloader will remove some DRM-keys (in the TA partition) that have some saying in the camera quality, but you won't notice much difference, so the real solution is to buy a different device with a better camera
Try this

Hi people. This is my 3rd android device. Two samsung products, and now the Z ultra.
So I have no idea what people are talking about... I'm used to ODIN... so is flashtool a similar piece of software?
My xperia Z hasn't arrived yet, Im just trying to get my head around sony and the way their devices are run..
So.. questions...
1. Backup your TA partition (I read that this has important info that I don't want to loose... Do i do this with flashtool? Do i also reflash this partition at a later date?)
2. Unlock your bootloader (Why are some people not unlocking bootloader... Do I understand correctly that some features will stop working... like x-reality?? If so, can't they just be reactivated with a custom ROM?)
3. I see there is a recovery for locked bootloaders... (can you still flash kernel's custom ROM's zips using CWM with a locked bootloader?)
Ive spent 3 days looking on the threads here, but I think because of my previous devices I have a preconceived idea of what i should be doing.. I'm confused.

Now everyone knows you're a n00b!
First of all, the minus of unlocking bootloader is losing your DRM keys. To do this, sony has provided us an official way through their website (just google it). Or you can do this via flashtool too. After unlocking, you will lose xreality engine and won't get FW update from sony anymore through official means (pcc or ota, but you can always flash). Some says trackID will be lost, too, but hey, who use it anyway?
The plus is, you entered godmode for flashing anything into your phone.
Unlocked bootloader can be relocked through flashtool, but relocked is not the same as locked, because xreality is still lost, cmiiw. To restore to original locked state, use backupTA (search thread in xda) BEFORE unlocking bootloader. And backupTA needs root, so we need root w/o unlock bootloader first (already plenty in other threads).
And yeah, what a maze this is.

otherwise as i understand it...
1) root device
2) backup TA parition
3) unlock bootloader
4) flash ROM/kernel/etc
5) reflash TA partition.
done... custom ROM with x-reality support?

Why are not all ROM's like this, then x-reality / track ID's would not be a problem...

Well it's harder to make, apparently. Currently even custom recovery for locked bootloader is not finished yet. Check the development section. And flashing things that normally isn't allowed on locked does have limitations, check in other xperia devices threads.

Actually on firmware .510 with unlocked bootloader and I still have Xreality. Making your Ta backup is mainly to be able to restore your device in case of softbrick or restore your phone to stock.

I am looking at getting the phone too. From what I understand is when your bootloader is locked, it will only load signed boot partitions. So any modification to the boot partition outside of the official stock kernel will not boot when locked. So installing any custom kernel (OC/UV/etc) with stock rom needs unlocked bootloader, or installing CM (which has it's own kernel anyway). So best is getting custom roms (only modified system) with stock kernel.
Also like already said, unlocked bootloader means no updates from Sony. I would backup TA at all costs anyway.
I doubt stock kernel supports kexec, but I guess you can hack the system init process to load different ramdisks. Which is why I guess they are having trouble with locked bootloaders with recovery ramdisks in the dev forum.
I am waiting for the C6806. Here are my plans:
1. Root using vroot (hope it doesn't infect TA with something ;o)
2. Backup TA Partition
3. Unlock
4. Deal with loss of DRM
5. Install whatever ROM/kernel for daily usage
6. (maybe make official TWRP)
7. Get official updates by restoring TA partition, stock kernel if necessary
or...
1. Root using vroot
2. Backup TA Paritition
3. Stick with stock kernel
4. Help with getting locked 2nd ramdisk working with stock init
5. Is the stock ROM awesome enough? (Not sure since we don't have 4.3 )
Also hoping info comes out about ATT bootloader soon on Note 3.
LTE phone is out by 9/25 I am thinking with US warranty support. (C6806)

Your DRM keys are gone due to the unlocking. That is why you cannot use this. Unless you made a backup before unlocking the bootloader, you are out of luck...

I'm surprised this device attracts so few developers. Most devices have several custom roms and kernels to choose between.
I love the device. I had some tough weeks to get use to the size but now I can't imagine having another phone.
It's perfect. I can play with it for hours.
I will send it to some of the core devs in my team when I'm done with it so we'll get official SlimRoms on it.

After owning this phone for almost a month as my daily driver, I can see why this phone might not be so popular.
Sony does not seem to do as much advertising as Samsung (at least that I can see), and for quite a while this phone was just too expensive. Add to that the fact that this phone for most people is just north of being too big (I came to it after owning the Galaxy note so I am ok with the size), and if you own one of these, you want to use it a lot and even with the stamina mode turned on battery life can be a little short if you turn it on to play with it every 5 min or so.... lol.
On the other hand my S4 build quality feels worse and worse after owning this beautiful thing.
One final thing I can think of is that the stock ROM (at lease 4.3 which I am still using) is not very bloated and really quite nice. I don't feel the need to try to load a AOSP rom as much. Every time I pick-up a touchwiz device I just want to throw up a little.

KitKat has already been rooted for quite some time! I am using 4.4.2 KitKat and am rooted.
Refer to Jackie's root guide. You will have to download the 4.4.2 FTF rom as well as Jackie's custom kernal in order to root.
Have you unlocked your Xperia Z Ultra bootloader? In order to root you must have your bootloader unlocked. It is very quick and easy to unlock.
Here is the link with instructions on how to root KitKat.
Special thanks goes to Jackie for making this possible so fast.

Before telling some one to unlock their bootloader to gain root PLEASE explain to then the consequences of that action:
If you unlock the bootloader before backinf up the TA partition you will lose your DRM keys and warranty. You will also lose the ablity to use some apps that rely on those DRK keys.
If you want to keep these (or have the ability to restore them) you have to downgrade to 4.2 (build ending with .532) and use an exploit to gain root

1) Go to your phone dialer.
2) Type *#*#7378423#*#*
3) Tap Service info, and then tap Configuration.
4) Look to the Rooting status section. It will display one of three bootloader statuses.
Bootloader status 1) Bootloader unlock allowed: No (this means you can't unlock your bootloader at all, don't ask if there is any way you can cause there isn't.)
Bootloader status 2) Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes (this means you can unlock your bootloader, remember to take TA backups and make multiple TA backups in case anything happens to your hard drive.)
Bootloader status 3) Bootloader unlock: Yes (this means your bootloader is unlocked, I hope you made them TA backups.)
So, with the new update to 4.4.4 I can't use Play Station App and Play Station Remote, another things that I can't use or I lost with unlocked BL?

I couldn't find the error message your taking about. Briefly read what u said and understood some. So youunlocked bootloader, installed custom recovery and a rom, and manged to flash to official firmware and are having problems with the camera.
As someone mentioned in that other thread you gave, when you block bootloader l, you lose the TA part ions which contains DRM, which can help camera to work as Sony wants it. The lost TA is lost likely causing issues., thus I recommend rooting to do man which have fixes for the lost DRM (not a replacement for the list ones) , so your camera will function correctly again. Be u seen you never made aback up of the TA, you've permanently lost them, even after relocking the bootloader.
P. S. I'm sure someone mentioned a similar thing to you no in the other thread.
Hope I helped u in some way.
Hey man,
Thanks for the thorough reply. So you think I have no hope of getting the camera to work while maintaining the stock firmware with locked bootloader?

That right, I think you dont have any reason to come back to stock firmware when you lost DRM key, because some rom have DRM fix like poision rom and pexorom. In addition, I am using posion rom which is really stable and fixed all your problem.
Glad to be not the only one with this problem.
But (what sucks) i cant sell my X because of this sh*t.

Why not?
I always sell my Phones rooted in Spain or Germany. Many people like to buy a pre rooted and working phone.
With Poioson rom for example, all ist working fine and stable.

Yea makes sense but I was just hoping to go back to being able to receive ota updates. Plus if i ever decide to sell the phone, i'm gonna have to slice a chunk of its price

Just unlock your bootloader again and camera will start working. Use FlashTool by Androxyde and Xpirifirm to update your phone when when new firmware is release.
