Alright. Lots of Android Wear ( watches ) available these days..
Which one do you plan on getting and why?
I've been eyeing the LG G Watch R because it looks amazing but then also been eyeing the Sony Smart watch 3 because of its ruggedness and functionality as a fitness device

I currently have the Moto 360 and am very happy. Though I had been interested in the R as well.
I've been using a Pebble for the last year. Ordered a Pebble steel and a moto 360 at the same time black Friday weekend. Haven't worn the steel one day since discovering the beauty of the 360. I do miss the always on screen, and I do think that pebbles more simplistic approach to notifications is better, but the gorgeous design of the 360 and the versatility of Android wear make it the winner in my book.
I will likely gift city the Pebble to my iPhone wielding father.
The LG watch R is too chunky for me. But certain watch people might like the style.
I'm thinking I'm gonna wait it out for round 2 of the smart watches. Just because I'm sure new iterations will probably roll through starting early next year. I have big wrists so the bigger size of these watches isn't really an issue to me. My current fav as far as looks though is the G Watch R.
None, I don't really see any justifications for me getting a Android Wear watch or a watch in general. Its just not useful enough for me, in my opinion.
Got the moto 360 and don't regret the purchase. Plus the updates to it have been fairly quick.
I got a LG G Watch from Cowboom when they were $70. It was an open box that was listed as used. Had all the factory plastic on it and all that jazz. I've enjoyed it for what it is. I'm waiting for round two of the round watches to drop, and then I will get one of those. I don't care for the square shape, but the notifications on the wrist are kinda handy and I've been spoiled by them. It's nice to know if something is worth getting your phone out for or not.
I bought both a Moto 360 and a G Watch during Black Friday with the mindset of returning the one that preferred less. The Moto 360 is good, but mine crapped out after 4 days of use (LCD went haywire) so the decision was made then.
The G Watch does most of what the 360 can do in a more no-frills fashion. I don't mind the shape and the current iteration of Android Wear seems better suited for square screens. At full price though I'd definitely consider the 360 over the G Watch.
I had a LG G Watch and a Gear for but smart watches aren't for me. I don't think its as practical as I would like and having Bluetooth always on sending notifications isn't battery friendly. When I wore mine I was always afraid of hitting it on something accidentally and breaking it. I ended up selling both of them in the end.
Buying Moto 360 for Xmas. Pretty excited for it.. I love the circular face and its just stunning.
I've played with moto 360 quite a bit in store and it seems pretty terrible tbh in comparison to others.
I don't like the looks
Can you even talk to the thing for a phone call?

I have a moto 360 and I love the it, because it looks amazing. Today I received the recent update to 5.0.1 and it improved a lot. Not only that the pull-down menu changed, the voice commands finally work fine in German.
moto 360 owner here. I was torn between it a the lg g watch r. I went for the classy look and decided to live with the flat tire. It's a little inconvenient because all some watch faces just don't look right with it, but there are plenty of watch faces to choose from that do look good. I have the silver with a metal band and it looks really nice. If I could afford both then I'm sure I would like the G watch too, but I didn't want to be stuck with a scuba watch. Also nice to be able to see my notifications and do other things without going into my pocket. My phone links to my cars Bluetooth, so I just start and control my music and answer calls via the watch (OK Google). Makes a great addition to the phone. Maybe not for everyone, but I was in the market for a nice watch anyway. Big plus that I got a nice watch with Android OS on it .
waiting for a 2nd gen that will have will hopefully have 8gb, gps, wifi, speaker and vibration motor.
I had the moto 360 sold it and purchased a LG G Watch R. No regrets at all. i like the look of the LG G Watch R better then 360
Was set to buy a LG G watch R, but then started seeing lots of reports of screen burn in so scrapped that idea. I want a moto 360, but so many sources are saying that a 2nd gen will be coming soon, so for now I'm waiting...which kind of sucks.
i found this watch for around 80 euro online. i am wondering how it has held up this long for everyone else as the guy i am buying it from said he bought it near the release date or is it worth it to add the extra money and get the g watch r
Check the hardware specs.
G Watch and G Watch R are nearly identical.
(G Watch R has the Round Display, 10mAh more battery and also a pulse sensor.)
I orderd a G Watch R from Amazon, but sent it back after 2 days.
Was not worth the money (180€).
Now I bought a "used" Lg G Watch for 55€ in excellent condition.
Totally happy with it.

One thing you left out is the display. The G Watch R has an P OLED display which , IMO, is better for a watch and one reason I would upgrade to it if the dang thing weren't so expensive. (Got my G Watch for $89 at Best Buy with free $50 Play Store credit)
I bought my G watch for 50USD used. Excellent watch. I like it better than my 360 overall. I wear my 360 to church and thats it. Only thing I miss from the 360 is the ambient light sensor while wearing my G watch. I won't be getting the G Watch R or the the Urbane since the only thing I find useful is the screen upgrade ( brighter, sharper, and better on power consumption). Not worth 300+ IMHO. I will stay with the G Watch till a worthy successor comes out that justifies it's price tag.

I got my G Watch at $100. I find it totally worth it... It also helps me cheat in exams
Yes!
Got my LG G Watch for $90 on Swappa. Totally loving it, and it looks really Geeky. I keep a simple Watch-face and people think it's an ordinary watch, but when I tap the screen, people's mind=blown. With the 5.1W update, the battery lasts me 4 days on moderate use, and this is good, since it used to lasts me only for 1 day on 4.4W. I even put a metal strap on it, so it looks really classy. The fact that it has LCD makes outdoor viewing easy, and there is a very little to no chance of screen burn-in. I don't mind charging it because it takes only 45 min. to completely charge. But the part replacement is really costly.
BOTTOM LINE:Yes, totally worth it.
Just got one last week as an impulse buy. I figured the price was too good not to give Android Wear a shot, and I'm absolutely impressed. Although I did hesitate and nearly purchased the G Watch R, considering both the strengths and limitations of AW at the moment, I honestly don't feel like I'm missing much at all. It buzzes when my messages come in, handles all my voice commands like a champ and the battery sits idle for days when I don't need it. That's pretty much all I expect from the platform, and consider this a pretty good placeholder until some newer generation flies in and actually blows me away.

5.0.2 for me.
I'm on the same boat, g watch just got a big discount here in mexico but im worried it might be too late to get it, but it's cheap or should I wait for Moto 360 2
For a basic watch, it is worth getting. I have had the G Watch since Christmas. I have order me a Gear Neo because I want more out of my watch.

Why if you don't mind me asking? AFAIK, the G Watch has better specs then the 360 which relates to faster performance and longer battery life. Aesthetics go, I believe the 360 definitely looks better, has the ambient light sensor and WiFi.
Just ordered from att for $50...that should be a good enough deal right?

I guess. I wouldn't pay that much this late in the game tho. I got mine for $6 PLUS a $50 Google play egift card in November.
I really like the 5.1.1 update but I'm a tiny bit disappointed we don't have wifi.
I just want my theater mode to vibrate like it used to.
I mean I guess if you get a lot of texts or notifications during the busy part of your day, then sure. But I'd say save your money and get something newer.
I just got in on the $50 ATT deal. To me it's worth it. This is my first smart watch, and it does everything I need it to do. I have a TomTom Runner to cover all of my running needs, and I use the LG G Watch for everyday wear. I got both watches, brand new, cheaper than my wife's FitBit Charge, which she loves. Make sure you do your research and figure out what you want out of a watch. You're going to get a mixed bag of opinions. Just get what fits your needs.
found mine for 60€ (in a stairwell I could only pair it to my phone to make sure it worked).
It's cheaper than a Toy Watch.
update 5.1.1 fixed many issues about screen freezing in 5.0.2 so now it's perfectly usable.
finding a good wristband can be complicated as it's a standard size, there is soooooo many choice (right now hadley roma)
$50 guys. Of course it's worth it. G watch for around $50 or some crappy Disney watch from walmart.
I just jumped on the G Watch bandwagon because I found it refurbished for $45. It was cheaper then some of the chinese models and has Google Play and well supported.
I have been looking at reviews and it seems the G Watch is great for a starter watch. The Samsung Models use a Tizen OS and require a Samsung phone.
Things that I wish the G Watch had:
AMOLED display. Makes sense on a smart watch. The Solid blacks would also look better.
Speaker. This is actually kind of a bummer because if I am in the pool/lake, I can reply/dismiss notifications, but won't be able to take a call.
For me, this was reasoning is to help handle notifications. It is a starter watch that is cheap but good. I don't normally wear a watch, so it will probably end up in a drawer but if I end up really using the device, then I will spend the money to upgrade to one that has everything I need. It is just silly to spend $300 for a high end device if it won't be used.
In a perfect world, I want the Samsung Galaxy Gear S to have an Android Wear model so I can use it on my LG G4. That would be the ideal watch.
Hi guys,
I am having some problems with my Huawei Watch, so I am thinking of exchanging it for a Moto 360 2nd gen. So I thought it would be good to hear from you, what made you choose the 360 over the Huawei watch when you picked yours up?
For me, I went first with the Huawei mostly because of the full circle. But after all the problems people (including me) are having with the screen, maybe the flat tyre is a small price to pay.
I'd like to hear your opinion on this. Why the moto 360?
Thanks!
I have both. Since bestbuy didn't have them on display, I ordered a Huawei from Amazon and grabbed a moto from best buy locally. I've had the moto since Sunday and just received the Huawei today. I have the original moto too.
Some quick initial thoughts :
I have the black versions with black link bands for both. Even though they are the same height on paper, the moto looks and feels like it's thinner due to the case design. The lugs on the moto allow it to sit flatter on my arm. And I have the 46mm moto for reference. Also with the glass being above the bezel the moto is easier to swipe, IMO.
Screen is noticeably larger on the moto. But doesn't feel too big. I never considered the original big either but this one does look and feel more proportional; that is the band and body seem to match up better. The side button on the moto is less squishy and feels better.
I immediately noticed the Huawei's red screen issue during boot up in a dark room and on other black screens. Aside from that, the screen is great. More crisp given the higher dpi.
The light sensor on the moto is great. Down in my man cave watching tv in the dark the moto works wonders. The Huawei, even on 3, is still stupidly bright in a dark room especially if there is a white notification card or your watch face is white.
The low res pixelated ambient screen on the moto is my only significant complaint so far. Some faces look horrid. Sky master for example, looks great on the Huawei, but on the moto the tick marks are very messy in low res. I really hope a future update can address that or at least make it an option to change.
So far, I've been less impressed with the Huawei that I thought I would be. All the reviews made it sound like a killer watch but so far im leaning toward keeping the moto.

Thank you Brian! Awesome post!
I actually don't mind the red tint on the HW screen, but I worry it might cause problems over time (like red sub pixel burn in for instance). And I don't know how well Huawei would deal with this.
Let me ask you something since you have them both: I know that the HW has greater ppi, but did you notice that it's got a pentile matrix like AMOLED phones (the subpixel matrix is not a grid)? Therefore every pixel is missing a subpixel. I don't know how sensitive you are for this, but for me it's very annoying. So even though the 360 has a theoretically lower res screen, it may look better because of the subpixel arrangement (in LCD displays usually the matrix is a grid, and every pixel has indeed 3 subpixels, there is no sharing subpixels).
Any thoughts on that?
And thank you again for sharing your experience.

This has been exactly the impressions I have had - even though I have never seen either of these 'in the flesh'. From all the reviews and videos, it seems clear that the Moto 360 sits much more neatly on the wrist even though most people seem to say the Huawei is marginally thinner (on specs, not visual perception). I have been wrestling with which one to get, but I'm slowly getting to 75%+ in favour of the Moto 360 42mm (small wrists here).
These have been my thoughts on the pros and cons of each - just my perceptions of what I've seen and read online, obviously I may be totally wrong about some of these!
Moto 360 Pros:
- Wireless charging, any Qi charger will work
- Apparent Size
- Leather strap seems to have more holes for different sized wrists
- Ambient light sensor
- Mic placement and sensitivity
- Price
- Stock faces seem nicer, more customisable
- Standard straps (20mm or 22mm)
- Vibration stronger?
- Angled lugs
- No obstructions to finger swiping (screen flush with bezel)
Moto Cons:
- The so called 'flat tire' (doesn't really bother me)
- LCD screen (not sure if this is a pro or con - seems better for bright sunlight?)
- Edge bevel on the glass? (Annoys some people, some think it adds to the look)
- Ambient mode blocky, and possible software issue: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/1a5cbb0aa8
Huawei Pros:
- AMOLED screen
- Full circle screen
- Ambient mode better
- Sapphire crystal
Huawei Cons:
- Apparent Size
- Price
- Leather strap seems to have less holes for different sized wrists
- Red screen tint issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/general/huawei-screen-red-tint-issue-t3214209)
- Mic placement issue, people report that it doesn't pick up voice consistently (https://youtu.be/H_ISBzY96M0?t=5m43s)
- Weak vibration?
- Stock faces (don't appeal to me as much as the Moto ones)
- Raised bezel may interfere with finger swipes
- Non standard straps (18mm straps will fit, but the supplied strap itself is 22mm with 18mm between the lugs)
- Proprietary wired charger seems a bit fiddly, $40 for a replacement
- Straight lugs, rather than angled to fit around the wrist - makes them appear to 'wing' over small wrists
In particular, these two reviews have swayed my opinion even more in favour of the Moto 360:
http://www.androidcentral.com/review-moto-360-2015
http://www.androidcentral.com/huawei-watch-review
EDIT: Not interested in any of the fitness/step counting/heart rate stuff by the way - that's why none of that is mentioned in my list

no, the pentile doesnt bother me and honestly its never been something ive been bothered by. i can see it in blownup screen shots and if i stick my eye super close to a device but in normal use, i cant tell. the sharpness (not counting the ambient low-res junk on the moto) is in favor of the huawei, though only slightly so. in normal usage at arms length its a non-issue. and i would bet if you had the smaller 42mm moto, you would be hard pressed to notice any difference.
to re-touch on the awesomeness of moto's light sensor, last night the huawei was bothering the wife while we watched TV because it was too damn bright whenever it lit up due to notification or arm movement. i ended up just putting it in theater mode all night.

Hi Brian - thanks for your insights! It's great that you have access to both, I can imagine there are quite a few people who would have some questions for you!
Could you comment on the mic sensitivity for each of these watches. How close you have to hold them to your mouth, how reliably they pick you up etc? How do they compare to using 'OK Google' on a phone? For example, my Note 4 seems to pick me up and understand exactly what I say almost without fail. Thanks.
I don't own the Huawei but I did own a first gen Moto that got broken a few weeks ago. I was deciding on a replacement and finally got the second gen Moto in Black 46mm. Why? Firstly the Huawei is a lot more expensive. It doesn't have inductive charging and I don't like the shape. The Moto is the only truly round smartwatch out there. The LG and the Huawei are strangely shaped watches with round displays. The 8 bit ambient mode on the Moto serioulsy annoyed me at first and showed my favourite watch face as a blurry blocky mess. So I made my own and I think it's quite nice. It shows just enough information and is sufficiently discreet. I don't watch my watch glowing like a light house during meetings. Here's some pics. Sorry about the crappy quality of my phone camera.

just tested some, and the moto is WAY more sensitive to picking up "ok google". with both sitting on the desk in front of me, the moto registered every time when talking at a normal level. i almost had to yell at the huawei. same experience on my arm. the moto picked me up way better. had to talk louder to the huawei. i can see the mic hole on the moto on the left side. not sure where it is on the huawei, i dont see any visible mic holes
Comparison shot. 46mm moto and 42mm Huawei. The moto looks thinner, IMO

Thanks SO much Brian - you're really helping me make my mind up! The speech recognition is pretty important for me, so it looks like I'll definitely be going for the Moto 360 42mm. You mention the mic placement on the Moto - I had noticed this too. It is placed on the left side which, for most people, will mean it is pointing directly at their mouth. However, as far as I'm aware, the Huawei mic is on the back of the watch under the top lug. Strange placement, if that's true. This, the ambient light sensor, and the weak vibration on the Huawei seal the deal for me.
Thanks for the comparison photo too - I think it's the sloped bezel on the Moto that makes it look thinner, even though it is supposedly the same thickness.
EDIT: Always interested in any other insights you have about these two - and, of course, which you ultimately go for.

ah yes, theres the mic, actually mics. looks to be 2 holes. the location aims them away from you, no wonder it has a harder time picking me up.
other thoughts, i posted this in another thread, but the moto has a stronger vibrator. hehe. :silly: if you wear your watch loose, i could see the huawei being more difficult to notice. both sound about the same though

Love that watchface. Would you be able to share a link for that one? My 2nd Gen is being delivered tomorrow to replace my 1st Gen one. I assume you have other downloaded watchfaces for Faceer/Watchmaker for the 1st Gen. How do those ones look on the 2nd Gen since the screen is slightly higher resolution?
Of course I will share. Have a look here:

I don't really notice much difference in the quality of my watch faces (I use WatchMaker the most) in bright mode. In dim mode all of the third party watch faces I use in dim mode are unfortunately horrible with the colours being terribly distorted. Hopefully this will be sorted out with a future update. In the meantime I adapt my favourite faces to show a decent 8 bit dim mode.
Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts and experience.
From my perspective (I am using the Huawei watch for about 5 days now) I don't mind the weaker mic (actually I prefer that the watch just listens to me when I am deliberately talking to it) and the vibration on my HW is strong enough for me (I don't have anything to compare to and this is my first smartwatch, but it's very noticeable IMO, so it's fine for me).
As for the other points raised, I do think that the ambient mode is to bright. I use the simplest stock watch face (I think it's called Elegant) in which the only diference between the ambient mode and the full active watch face is the seconds hand and the date. Some times I have the impression that the ambient mode is brighter than the full watch face when the brightness is set to one... But, on the other hand, the watch face I use looks really good on always on.
And, as some users have reported, I find the accelerometer not very sensitive and, on top of that, the waking up time is kinda slow. So, if you are planing to leave ambient mode off, this is annoying. You have to really raise your wrist up high and then wait a second for the display to come to life. Bothersome...
Now, about that red tint issue, it's horrible on mine. It's really, really red. It glows like crazy for something that's supposed to be pure black. But realistically speaking, I don't see Huawei doing anything about it. It's to subtle to bother (or to be noticed for that matter) most people. And despite being really bad on mine, if someone could guarantee me that this is not going to cause any problems in the future, I could overlook it easily.
I am still struggling to decide if I am gonna ask for a replacement or a refund and go for the 360. I don't know if I can handle that flat tyre...

As an owner of the new Moto 360, I totally agree with all of you, especially the case design of the HW and the vibration made my decision clear. I am happy with the 360 except the ambient mode screen.
On a side note, very nice watch face! did you made, is it possible to share it?
Thanks in advance.

As an owner of the new Moto 360, I totally agree with all of you, especially the case design of the HW and the vibration made my decision clear. I am happy with the 360 except the ambient mode screen.
On a side note, very nice watch face! did you made, is it possible to share it?
Thanks in advance.

I only made the 8 bit ambient mode part of the face. The original face I found on FaceRepo I believe. The concensus on the usual forums is that it is Ok to modify and distribute other people's work as long as you explicitly state who did the original work. In my case the beautiful watch face work was done by John Feaster. He and he alone deserves the credit for this beautiful watch face. I just adapted it to suit the new Moto.
Dear watchlovers,
I currently cannot choose between two watches.
LG watch urbane or the Moto 360 2015 edition
I like the Watch urbane's its big design and silver look ( and its fully round..)
And i like the moto 360 its ellegant look
But i still cannot choose.
Maybe you guys can help me?
give me your opinions!
Moto 360, G Watch Urbane looks ugly
If possible, go and feel both of the watches in person. With mobiles, you can usually get used to the size/feel/look with time, but watches are slightly different in the fact that you have to wear it for long periods of time - which has aesthetic as well as ergonomic-al consequences.
Personally, I'd suggest if moto's flat-tyre doesn't bother you much then go for the Moto. Hands down. I've wore both the watches and the Urbane was a little too bulky and thick for my liking - sure the round display looks good, but for me, the feel of the moto 360 on the hand far outweighs the display benefit of the Urbane. Like most, the flat-tyre isn't that much of a bother as most claim it to be (me being one of them in the beginning).
Again, like I said, go and get a feel for both and if the flat-tyre doesn't bother you - get the Moto. There isn't much in favour of the Urbane other than that.
I'd wait a few weeks (until after MWC) to see if LG re-releases their LG watch urbane 2 LTE. I managed to snag one before LG took it off the market and it has a gorgeous, round OLED display with more pixels than anything else out there, stainless built, and jawdropping battery life. Of course, it also has a sim card slot for LTE connectivity and GPS, which is why I bought mine.
I talked to others who also kept theirs instead of returning it, and nobody has any issues with theirs, so whatever the real reason is that they took it off the market, I expect them to bring it back, because it is an awesome watch that leaves all the other ones in the dust.
I have both. Moto 360 2nd ed. (42mm) is lighter.
LG Urbane has a better screen and ambient mode is brighter. In the moto 360 ambient is too dark for me.
In battey life, I think LG wins. In the afternoon, when I arrive homs, by 9pm, LG has typically 40% of battery left, and mot has about 35%. In practical terms the difference is small.
I am not convinced to like the flat tire in the moto. It's weird and ruins some watchfaces.
In short, I am using the moto 360
Regards
There is only one truly round watch out there and that's the Moto. The LG and the Huawei watch are basically squared watches with round displays. The huge bezel of the LG puts me off. The ambient display on the Moto after the Marshmallow update is great and my battery lasts at least 1.5 - 2 days. Also, after having used the Moto for a few days, you will hardly ever notice the flat tire. Do I wish that it was gone? Hell yes, but the Moto is still the most asthetically pleasing watch out there.
I had an Urbane, but despite rumors to the contrary, I think it looks pretty ugly. Battery life on the 46mm seems a bit better than the Urbane, but I could see the 42mm being a little worse. I do like the P-OLED display on the Urbane. Not enough to make me use that watch, but it's a nice feature.

So i am looking into buying my first smartwatch and the first thought I had was the moto 360. Currently its priced at $269 at bestbuy (waiting for it to go back down to $200) but i wanted to know if the watch itself is worth it. I ask because the Huawei watch is also $200 at newegg for black friday. I was considering the moto 360 more because of the 42mm size since i have small wrists. So, my question i guess is would you all still after a year recommend the watch? or choose something else.
In lower price, as used, for sure.

I got my 42" black gen 2 from DailySteals.com back in July for $149.99. That was a great price. Refurbished but you couldn't tell at all. Came with everything a new watch would. Previously I had a gen1 Moto 360. Main complaints with that were battery life, sluggishness, and a bit too large face. This watch took care of all that. I can go close to 48 hours between charges (depending on which watch face I use mainly). I wear my watch when I sleep so I can use it as a vibrating alarm without waking up my wife/kids. I charge it when I shower and then here and there when I'm at home in the evening. Never have a battery issue like I had before. I workout and run in it a lot too so I got a silicone watch band that I wear most of the time but can easily switch to any of the other two bands I have in about thirty seconds. Love it!
I just picked one up used for $70 on Swappa... this will be my first smartwatch so i'm hoping it will give me a good taste of what AW is like and be an overall rounded good watch for me. Mainly just want to use it to be sure I see notifications that come in since i often miss the notification when the phone is in my pocket. Thanks!

For this price, it's a bargain for the 2nd Gen.
