Smartswitch Option Missing? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I've recently been experiencing some very power battery life, losing like 11% during the night without touching the phone, so I have looking for solutions and none of them are working, I installed Gsam and it shows that "WIFI Active" drains a lot of battery and my device is held awake for like 1hr25mins through the night, that is without touching it in 4hrs. Tell me if this is normal or i'm just freaking out but I feel like it shouldn't be held awake for that long. Anyway I used to get pretty good battery life like 1 day and around 5hrs SOT, with some optimizations managed to get 9hrs of SOT with just less than a day of battery life,... but after the recent two updates U2COIK and now U3QOJ5, things have been really bad. Now since I saw WIFI sucking the most I decided to change some settings, but noticed something weird with this build I can't find "SmartSwitch" setting under WIFI like I had before, which has led me to think that it might be on by default and sucking my battery... does anyway with the build i have still have the SmartSwitch feature?? And any help with regaining my good battery life would be much appreciated, just not yet ready to trip my Knox.
Thank you

Battery draining overnight a bit too high? How's yours?

Hi,
I'm currently using JuicePlotter to see how my battery drains over time and this past night I think it drained more than it should (or maybe not).
For the ones who don't know, JuicePlotter runs in the background (of course) analyzing your battery, that too wastes battery juice of course. Thought, the app dev says on his website:
Perhaps the most important feature of JuicePlotter is that - unlike all similar apps and widgets - it's very battery friendly;

So I'm not sure if the problem lies on JuicePlotter or not, I'll have to test it one night without it...
This is how JuicePlotter displays it's graph:
The coloured bands along the graph show your screen brightness, radio usage, charging status and battery temperature. Just scroll around to find precise information and make sense of the different colours.

I went to bed at 4:10 with the battery at 97%. Around 13:00, it was at 89% and I didn't receive any calls/messages/mails/whatever during the night. The WiFi/3G was off all night along with the screen of course. The battery temperature remained the same too. I don't know if it makes a difference but I normally turn off Auto-Sync if the WiFi is off too.
Is it normal to lose 8% of battery juice in 9h in standby? I think it's a bit too much, but I don't know... Does the same happens to you too? What else cloud it be?
Interesting looking app. I've never noticed much of a lose overnight. Just installed the app, will fully charge and give you an update tomorrow.
Also how's the cell reception in your area? I've heard it can drain the battery a far bit if the reception is low.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I'll have to do more testing but I think it's the app's problem... Tonight, I went to bed with 83% and it was exactly the same when I woke up...
I fully charged mine last night and turned on JuicePlotter. Still showing 100% this morning. Both in the app and on the phones battery indicator (in the notification bar). Do you know of any other apps similar to this that could be run in tandem?
Weird, Battery Graph also does the same thing...
This needs more days of testing on my part...
My battery goes from 100% - 0% in about 16hrs... doesn't matter how much I use the phone or not.
I have BatteryGraph but the results don't really mean anything to me as it just shows battery life vs time on a scale.
I'll try JuicePlotter to see if I can pin down exactly what's causing my terrible battery life.
I have a feeling it's running at full speed even when in standby but I'm not sure how to check if this is the case. Any ideas?
EDIT: Looking at BatteryGraph I've lost 15% in around 1hr... nothing unusual going on with my phone that I know about... just standard stuff running in the background. Perhaps the battery itself is simply past it's best.

Wow that is terrible, try apps like Taskpanel and when you add programs to your auto kill list the program kills the programs as long as they are running in the background when the screen is off, however if you are on lets say your browser and you don't go to your homescreen the screen goes off into stand by it will not kill the app. Also try draining your battery to the point it shuts down by itself, plug it in let it charge for a bit, boot into recovery wipe battery stats start up the phone or leave it off (your choice) and let it charge fully. Are you using setcpu or OC Widget or anything? If you are using SetCPU make a profile for when screen is off and make it underclocked like 264 Mhz to 480Mhz, or with OC Widget tick the 'use different screen frequencies' (don't remember what it is called since I don't use it) and do the same; I like SetCPU better because when you turn the screen on it switches profile faster where as OC Widget takes its time however with SetCPU do not use the widget it will cause Sense to FC and I'm not sure about Vanilla.
Hope this makes sense since all my ideas are said at once.

The way I've learned to recalibrate the battery is to let it go down to 5%, boot phone into recovery and wipe batterystats, then power off the phone. Let the phone charge until the green led is on without turning it on. Then turn on and use the phone as usual. Learned it over at modaco. Worked as a charm, and batterytime was improved. I have personally experienced strange batterybehaviour after periods with flashing a lot of roms.

Here.
That's interesting...
Cause I've been playing with ROMs latetly, creating my own, testing hacks and stuff... And most of the time the phone is plugged and the battery is charged, during the flashing process it's using the battery and then it charges again. I also have to leave from time to time and when I get back I continue my stuff, meaning I'm charging the battery at high levels.
I'll have to try that calibrate method...
For now, for the past 2 nights, with JuicePlotter off, I've noticed the battery level did not change at all during the night. Tonight I'm going to try one more time with JuicePlotter on...

Wiped battery stats at 5% last night, let the phone die and then charged whislt off until green light came on. Been keeping an eye on it all day and there has been a noticable improvement.
The phone came off charge at around 2am (so around 12hrs ago) and it has only lost 20%, which is a lot better than I was getting before.
It was probably just due to me messing about with some many ROMs and update zips lately as I tend not to have too much crap running in the background (I use OSMonitor).
I will look into setCPU but I remember trying it before with VR12 and it ended up causing some weird problems meaning I needed to do a full wipe to get everything working again.
Thanks for the help
This night, with JuicePlotter on, I only lost 1%, seems reasonable now... I don't know why that one time I lost 8% during the night. Maybe an isolated case? Something was probably running when it shouldn't, I just don't know what.

Finally did the OTA update... crazy good battery?

Hey guys... I finally updated my E3D with that update. My sister and dad both updated theirs when they first got it.
I'm getting really good battery life. Minimal usage yesterday, but after 16+ hours I still had more than 60%... I even played a little N64oid.
However, my sister and my dad both get pretty bad - decent battery life. My dad doesn't use the phone nearly as much as me.
I wish I knew what settings are doing it. We all have the same settings but my idle time loses me like 2-3%/hr but for them it can be up to 7-10%/hr.
Anyone in a household with more than a couple E3D's getting this varied battery life?
Settings are virtually the same, and location isn't a big factor either.
A lot of things impact battery. If the settings are the same across all phones perhaps the drain is app related. If you really want to test you should factory reset all phones and then check. This way all truly have same settings and apps. I would bet at that point they all drain the same.
I did the OTA and my battery life shot up instantly.
Before the OTA I would have around 15 hours of light to moderate use of text, calls, and browsing before it hit 50 percent. Now, I would basically do the same things but I can go a full day before it hits 70 percent.
I bet you they use the phone more...calls..facebook....etc..friend of mine gets couple hours...and he plays games non stop.

[Q] Battery life

Well, this question is for my lucky friends who have their new toys
Battery life is so good?
Post your test here!
Don't have screens for ya but battery life is more than adequate. My gf and I used it for about 5 hrs last night and it dropped to about 45%
(Games, xda, Netflix, and just tinkering around)
I'm curious what kind of battery life you folks are seeing, now that you all have had time to get some real world experience with the NT.
Thanks!
10 hours of continuous usage with 25% brightness.

Yea, the battery life and responsiveness of the device is definitely top notch.
I'm pissed as hell the bootloader is locked, but this device is an absolute steal for $250 bucks. Especially if you can manage to discount that price down.
Extremely responsive and awesome battery life considering I'm running max brightness and wifi 24/7.
I'm always surprised when I'm done using the Nook that it was still running. Granted, I ran it until it had only had around 20% left. But hey, if your sitting in one spot using your nook for more than ten hours, then you need to find something else to do. ^_^

Good book, nice day, under a tree? Done that many times just reading off my PDA.
Thanks for the feedback!
The battery life is definitely adequate.
I can usually go 2 day without charging thus far. I keep brightness at ~20% or so (I can't stand brighter, it actually bothers my eyes).
I also use multi-picture-live-wallpaper and it doesn't seem to drain my battery at all.
I do some pretty heavy use of it as I am reading on it and studying for med school for probably ~6 hours at a time
Battery life is great. BN's numbers seem dead on.
Lasted the flight from San Francisco to Sydney
I'm getting around 10 or so hours of use at 2/3 brightness. Battery life is amazing on this. I charged it last night. Took it off the charger at 10am didn't touch it till 10pm tonight. It was at 99 percent then. I think it turns off wifi when it's sleeping.

Yeah, it definitely turns wifi off on its own when sleeping
Yeah Ill echo the comments here, battery life is absolutely superb and the responsiveness of the unit for the price is fantastic. Sadly its a case of if only B&N....to fully realize what the tablet would be capable of.
I have to agree that battery life is amazing on this thing.
I've got wifi turned off full time (to avoid updates from B&N) and the battery just seems to last forever. Granted you always use less battery when you're not going online, but still, it seems to really really last.
Frankly it's making my phone quite jealous.
Umm, my nt's battery isn't as impressive as i hoped. I use 25% brightness, wifi on, no fancy live wallpaper. I noticed for every few minutes of sjurfing, battery would drop a percentage or so. For usage of about 3hr withoit wifi, i would use up about 40 %.
Anything i could do to tune it up a bit? I do noticed amazon appstore is always running, so is clock, contact, tb, and my yahoo mail app. Any help is appreciated.

That sounds about what I'm getting and I'm wondering whether it's defective or not (still within return window).
edit: Probably normal - ran into some threads on B&N's boards where other people are averaging 5-7 hours. If I idle / read, I get about 1% every 8-10minutes or so so B&N's time estimates were definitely not "video," "browsing" or "games." Wifi on, installing or rebooting a few times, it drops to 5-6 hours tops between 100% and close to 0%.
My phone gets -way- more time, even reading.
the battery on this is great one of the biggest things going for it. better than my phone for sure.
For you guys with bad battery life, you might want to try better battery stats. Then check for partial wakelocks. That's usually the culprit on my phone. It seems weird some of you are getting half the battery life of the rest of us. Personally I haven't even turned wifi off at all, and also haven't turned my brightness below half.
It's in the google market, it won't show up on the nook. I downloaded it on my phone then used the app share my applications then back up to sd. Upload to dropbox. Then download it with dropbox on your nook.

I looked at this (and other battery programs), but wasn't sure what they did. Now I sort of do. I'll check it out! Wifi on definitely uses up at least 20-25%ish extra battery, and I *have* been moving a ton of stuff to/from sd cards and uninstalling and rebooting a lot, but the above did seem very short. Too bad there isn't a battery hardware test
Failing those applications it may be worth doing a full reset; Especially since most other owners are reporting MUCH better results.
Before I start nuking things around, I used BetterBatteryStats, check for partial wakelocks, and the highest % is from ActivityManager-Launch, which occupies 0.3% or 5minutes or so since I fully charged it.
Also, i noticed "Wifi Locked" is extremely high, like 89%, whereas wifi On is only 26%. What does that mean?
I'm not fully versed in how Android handles power management. So what should i be looking out for? Thanks!

Vbus_wake_lock wakelock keeping the phone awake

Hello everyone,
I've been following these forums every now and then and was very helpful when I encounter some minor problems so far.
But lately I start having a very strange problem on my mom's phone which is a Samsung Galaxy Win (i8552- stock rom- android 4.1.2) and couldn't really find a decent solution or a good explanation so far. So I decided to ask you guys.
The problem is phone is having a bit poor bettery life overall, especially while in idle. I found out most of the times it is losing 2-3% battery per hour while idling (i.e overnight). Sometimes it's slightly more 1% per hour and sometimes between 0.5-1% (which sounds more normal).
While in idle usually Androis OS seems eating up the battery around 50-60%. I disabled most of the notifications, most of the sync options (especially google ones), all kinds of screen sounds, facebook update intervals, uninstalled Avast and also disabled the location access. But these changes didn't really give a noticable difference. Battery drain inconsistency was still there.
After I noticed this strange battery drain I decided to digging it up a bit more and installed GSM Battery and wakelock detector.
Firs that I noticed in GSM battery is that the phone is awake for like 1.5 hours out of 7-8 hours of overnight idling. And Android OS kernel seemed responsible for this. But couldn't really get more clues.
Then I found more clues on the culprit in Wakelock Detector under "kernel wakelocks" tab. Which is vbus_wake_lock wakelock.
WD shows vbus_wake_lock is awake for almost an hour after the last charge, which was 7 hours ago.
After I found this I googled around a bit but couldn't really found a useful explanation except it might be caused by an apple charger. But I know that mom's using the original samsung charger.
I tried rebooting to see if it helps. It's been almost 4 hours now, phone lost around 2% battery which seems ok-ish but the vbus_wake_lock is still there with 25 minutes of awake.
So any idea. What should I do to hunt this wakelock down?
I don't really want to make her worried about her phone though, she seems happy with it, since she is playing some games and charging it every day so not really having a battery issues. But I know that there's something wrong here and I want to fix it.
So I desperately need your helps guys.
Thanks a lot.
Sorry for my English btw, as it's not my native.
Best,

Android 11 Battery drain discussion

Hey folks, see if this is the right forum to post this.
Like some other people on here and on reddit the latest Android 11 update C.57 caused a lot more battery drain on my device.
Before on A.46 my over night drain was about 2% which is good I think with Wifi on.
With Coloros 11 it can be over 10% drain over the course of 6-8 hours which is far more.
I have tried gather info from my phone which app is draining but it looks rather normal.
Even tried the adb command to force the phone get the phone to do the battery optimazation manually without luck, seems I have dont have the permission to make suchs commands through ADB with USB-debugging mode enabled..
However this morning I found in Settings>Battery>More Battery Settings>Optimize Battery Use
The whole list on every app there was set to "Always ask" and not "Optimize Automatically"
Now I changed every app to Optimize Automatically and will see how this affects the current drain.
I read somewhere that to the phone to get to this "state of battery optimazation" you need to have the phone in the right state to execute that which was Battery Full on Charger in idle mode not moving for a few hours.
So I thought if the battery optimazation settings where set to "always ask" (which it never did) this state maybe never happens?
Anyways feel free to share your battery settings and what Battery standby drains you guys got because I have been going a little nuts over this issue haha.
I wouldn't bother changing the battery optimisation settings, they seem to reset themselves.
I wasn't getting great battery life so finally did a factory reset. After a week the battery settled down and is now ok, probably around 5.5 hours screen time a day at qhd 120hz with always on display in from 8am to 11pm. I don't really check battery drain overnight, I will check it and report back.

Yes I checked them again now after you mentioned it and they do seem to reset. However now my phone seems to work how it should, currently 3 hour screen on and 64% battery left. Wifi at home all day. Also the standy drain is night and day better now. Maybe this was a bug in Android 11 that kept it from optimize the apps?
I have adaptive on both refresh and resolution and same Always on time settings as you.

Glad it's working better now. I do find the battery a bit inconsistent, some days it's great and others it goes down quickly. I've turned location off now as dont need it that much, I lost 3% overnight which seems good to me.
I really don't understand how you guys get such a low battery drain overnight.
On ColorOS 7 I had 10-12% drain overnight.
On ColorOS 11 it stayed the same. I have reset my phone, now it's about 7-8%.
This is with night optimization on in the settings. 5G disabled.
I always was able to get that 3% on my older OP 7 Pro. Even on my Realme X2 Pro, which had the same OS!
Also, my SOT is not that good. On mixed data/wifi I only usually get 3.5hrs SOT. After the reset its 4hrs now.
With 5G on it's unusable, even with good coverage here. (AccuBattery: 6hrs SOT, 57hrs standby, just very bad)
It's nice to have Dual SIM now with Singapore EX, but I cant use it, my battery just can't handle that.
I kept this phone just because the rest is awesome, but the battery is such a letdown.
I thought it was a SD865 problem, but I also had the Mi 10 and Poco F2 Pro as a secondary device without any drain problems.

3% seems good.
However I had a big drain again over night so gonna try to set apps to optimize again.
It is indeed very inconsistent

Yes I agree the battery drain is very weird with this OS.
Have you tried changing the settings in the battery optimize section? I turned on optimize automatically and then charged my phone full and let it sit for a while with charger plugged.
Try this and see if it gets better.
Its weird that the settings change after a while tho.
Just recently managed to use the phone and have to confirm ColorOS 11 is killing battery overnight, I have this for few weeks now so should be all optimised, yet still overnight is around 25-30% battery gone, my previous mate 20 pro was taking maybe 2-3% overnight so is massive hit. No notification is allowed, do not disturb on with wifi and mobile off, really weird is behave like something in the background was still on.
mine only about few percent but my battery life sucks at 4-5 hour ish
