Connection with smartphone and battery problem - Asus ZenWatch 2

Hi guys,
I now have my ZenWatch 2 for nearly 5 days and I am fairly happy with it. The experienced connection failures and battery problems with the watch itself luckily don't occure on my device. Nevertheless I have two problems:
1) I use a custom made watch face I made myself with the FaceDesigner by Asus. There you can customize the watch face to your liking and, for example, add icons for the battery status and weather. For me it shows the battery status of my watch just fine, but fails at displaying the battery of my phone. Sometimes it just shows an old percentage, but most of the time it shoes nothing, only this: -/-
Weather is no problem, as I can recall, but I have to test this first. At the moment it shows a realistic degree, so I guess it is correct.
2) My phone dies on me. Since I got the watch my phone runs out of battery really fast. I barely touch it over the day. I disconnected it from the charger this morning at 6.20am, now it's 10.27am and the battery is at 57%. Yes, I listen to music on my way to work and play a bit around with it until I arrive, but this drop is crazy. The first day was worse, my phone was at 20% at around 12.30pm.
Thank you in advance

I just got my ZenWatch 2, and today is the first day I've been wearing it. I also notice that my phone is draining much faster than before. The battery info shows that Google Services is the largest offender. Looks like that is getting taxed a lot on the phone. I'll see how it does tomorrow.

I've had Google fit disabled on my phone for a while, but today I shut it off on my watch (just figured out that I could). The phone battery seems to behave MUCH better now that I did that.

How do you turn it off on your phone? Is it just waiting until you get a notification and then selecting to Block App? I didn't see anything within the Fit settings

Yeah, I read something about Google Fit draining the battery, but my watch runs all day without issues. I charge it every night when I go to bed and it easily has like 40% left at the end of the day. I even don't have to restart my watch which was suggested in another post here in the ZenWatch 2 forums.
The problem with my phone persists, I have to charge it now twice. Once around 14p.m. where I have like 20-30% left and at night before I go to sleep. On my way to work I play a game, chat and listen to music so it's fair to say that this drains a lot. Roughly around 30% in one hour.

My phone's battery is still dropping more than it used to. Not nearly as bad as yours, but I'm a pretty light user. For me, it still says Google Services, and Android OS is up there too. Google Services was rarely a large battery user before the watch (only when an update went weird). Now it is very consistent. It's obvious that Wear is causing the issue on my phone.

Do a full factory reset in recovery mode. Not in setting. That should fix your problem.. I had figured that out the hard way.

Mysterious drop in battery

Over the last few days I've noticed my drops rather quickly once it reaches around 80% and it's usually just in my pocket doing nothing. Anyone else having this issue?
The voice calls I've made today totaled about 8 minutes. Other than that it's been some light surfing and a few texts.
One of the many OCD threads, when a new phone is released.
What's your screen on time? The power button could be getting pressed while in your pocket.

I thought of that but my screen on time is 43 minutes which seems about right.
I am ASTOUNDED by the battery life. And laughing at all the people who held off from buying cuz theywere worried about not being able to swap batteries. On my first charge, I got 1D 4hrs something and at 20% St with 7+hrs screen on. Amazed
Granted, twice I plugged into the PC for just a couple minutes to transfer files and adb test. I am officially blown away.
And I know, it's not exactly relevant to topic of thread .

Wouldn't it show up on the power consumption screen though with the rest of the apps on the list?
This helped me:
Charge your battery up to full
While plugged in, take charging chord out.
Once the led light turns off plug it back in till it's green. (i usually wait 10 seconds before plugging back in)
With the charging chord still in, turn it off.
Unplug it till the led turns off ( again I let it stand 10seconds) then plug it back in till its green
Do this about 10 times

Anyone have any pointers on how to track down a rogue app when it doesn't show on the power consumption screen? I would usually use spare parts but the one I find in the market isn't the same.

Sudden major battery drain

My wife's Rezound (.605, ClearnROM 4.5) has been stable for weeks and weeks. Then, in the last 72 hours or so, it suddenly started ripping through its battery in minutes -- fully charged to dead in 90-180 minutes, even if the phone is just sitting on a desk, untouched, screen off. There doesn't appear to be anything running in the background to account for the drain (no Facebook or anything like that).
Any ideas? Really don't want to have to return it to stock, exchange it with VZW as defective, go through setting up a new one.
Thanks in advance...

best thing to do is go into settings and see what has been using the phone. Go into apps, too and see what has been running.. Finally, an app like better battery stats can really help you see what is killing it.
Often in cases like yours, its a recently updated app that is keeping the phone awake for some reason.

No to overclocking or undervolting. Haven't really had the need to do either since moving off our Droid Xs some months ago. But that was a good thought.
The screen appears to be what's killing the phone. For some reason, it keeps setting itself for Sleep/Never, meaning the screen is on all the time. The last time spent changing that setting seems to be working. Not sure why it keeps toggling back to that setting. May have to reset the phone, reload a ROM and see if a fresh start makes a difference...

Note 2 temps?

Got my Note 2 about 2 weeks or so ago and like it so far. However, I notice it runs pretty warm consistently. Using system tuner, the temp is upper 40s°C Most of the time. And this is just sitting in my pocket, not gaming or anything intensive. Anybody experience this? The screen is pretty warm and is even uncomfortable to hold to my ear. Any help is appreciated. I did look and didn't find too many threads about it with the Note 2, and apologize if I missed any. Thanks!

Man, I hope that doesnt mean something is wrong with the phone. I just restarted it and I immediately started feeling heat from the screen when it turned on. Are there any ways to see if an app or something is the cause rather than hardware, etc? I'm trying to keep an eye on any apps I downloaded and might reset the phone as a next step...

Your device probably has a lack of thermal paste on the motherboard or they didn't put enough past in between the display.
Sent from my rooted galaxy note 2... U mad?
Have you run any benchmarks? If there is an issue then it won't be good for the phone, but it'll tell you if it's throttling from heat issues. You also may be able to trade it at verizon with just the heat issue since it's noticeable so fast, but I'm not sure..
Ran a benchmark and everything seemed fine for that test. I'm resetting it now and will see if that makes a difference. I'm just past the two weeks and know I'd probably get a refurbished if I went to exchange it now. Everything else is working fine, so if this can be figured out then I'd much prefer to keep this one. Thanks for the advice guys. If anyone else knows something else to check before I possibly exchange it, that'd be great!

We have the same issue.. First install the android tuner, remember that the battery temp is not the same as the CPU temp.
I have my note that sits 38-42 CPU temp when Idle and 28-32 battery temp.
When I am browsing I could really feel the heat on the upper part of the screen. my CPU temp rise to 47-50 and my battery temp rises to 32-34.
Check your note.
I was browsing rhrough the forums and saw that you had the same problem too. My CPU temp is about 42C idle and goes up to 50 or just over when doing pretty much anything. My battery is about 33C at idle

Ill check in a little while. I tried resetting it and it was doing better at first but doing the same thing again. Easily going over 50C if I'm just in the camera for about 30 seconds and most ither apps. Might just exchange it, even if I get a refurb, and take my chances

Turns out it was an app or two causing it. I think one culprit was running wallpapers through picspeed instead of saving them first. Lesson learned and still monitoring cpu and battery usage. It's now running normal temps (low 30s even 28-29 sometimes when I first wake the screen). Thanks for the advice!

Are people using the "Clock Always On" Feature?

I've had my gear S for 3 weeks now and really enjoy the device. I'm a everyday watch guy, so my biggest gripe about the gear s when it came in was the screen going black. I hated the motion activation or pressing the screen/button to wake up the device. I found that under settings-style-clock there is a clock always on setting. Once I turned this on, and turned off motion wakeup, very happy with being able to see time at an glance.
So this brings me to my question, why only do the first couple included watch faces have a nice analog always on black and white faces, every other one I've tried is just a simple, boring, and small digital time? Do people not use this feature, can you create this black and white always on face in watch styler and other watch face creation tools? Anyone know if a downloadable watchface in the gear store that has a nice always on black and white face?
New to the tizen camp and have been reading for days on the forums, having come across anything that addresses what I'm looking for. Thanks for reading
I purchased something called big watch and arranged for the screen to have an always on future. Battery life was nominal but you can also use the minimal watch face black and white. There's also some very light colored white dot matrix clocks as well. Just look through the Samsung store and you will find something.
Biggest problem with Clock Always On is the fact that the screen will be responsive to touch all the time. That results in random operation by the gear. The other day i was wearing long sleeves and ended up calling 2 people randomly.
Try it yourself, put it on always on and touch the screen, device will wake up, and you can end up calling people or any other random operation. Definitely not great.
hmm, I'm 3 weeks into always on mode, and yes the screen does respond to touch. Yet I havent had any real issues with unit being activated by my sleeves. I've been wearing a jacket everyday since owning the unit. Without Always ON Clock, I would not have kept the watch. I'm just disappointing with the the always on options from other watch faces.... looks like I'm sticking with stock faces for now.
I will try again and see if my sleeves will operate the watch on their own. Maybe that day my sleeves were full of static or something. It just freaked me out immensely because it ended up calling a business contact at a very late hour.
However, my second biggest problem with always on (even with the fancy samsung analog dials) is that you don't see anything except time. No pedometer, no notifications, no weather, nothing but time. You would still need to tap the screen to get any of that information. Even with the motion gesture you don't get to see anything more than time until you click, even though it gives the impression that the whole dial is lit up (this part is especially annoying).

And this brings me back to, are there any other watch faces that have a analog style, always on face? Even the low power faces on gear store, when you go to the always on clock face, its a crappy little digital clock... frustrating. If you make a watchface in watch styler, can you dictate what the always on clock face is??
I suppose that I will have to try the time on option and see if there are any accidental operations performed.
What is battery life with clock always on? Right now I get two days.

(1) The more time you spend with the watch's cellular radio on while not being connected to your phone via bluetooth, the less battery life.
(2) The more you stream music via the watch, the less battery life.
(3) The weaker cellular zone you live in (or pass through), the more battery drain. If cellular is on and your device has a weak connection or is searching for connection, the more battery drain.
(4) What network is your watch on? What network is your phone on? How good is your signal where you live? What phone are you using with the device? Is it running stock 4.3 or higher? Is it running a ROM?
I usually get 1.5 days with the always on clock. Typically 30-50% battery left when I charge at night with moderate to heavy use throughout day. I'm connected via BT to my phone 99% of the time.

I suspect that it's something more complex than Watch Styler is likely to support, at least in the near future.
I was having a quick look round online the other day and even on a Tizen Developers forum, nobody seems to know how to make use of the 'Always On' feature.
I am a watchface developer and Iam trying to figure out how to make watchfaces like the first 2 native watchfaces.
I could not find the info yet.

Question about Vibration Strength

Hey everyone,
How is the vibration strength for notifications on the new Moto 360?
I've got an Huawei Watch and I love it, but the vibration strength is pretty weak IMO. A lot of times, I hear the vibration rather than feel it.
If it's stronger on the new Moto360, I may switch.
Thanks!

Hello there,
I got mine yesterday, I am loving so far. The vibration was one of my worries, and I am glad to say it is ok, not great but ok. I have not tried the Huawei but I have heard the exact same comments over and over that you could actually hear it but not feel the vibration. I can assure you that this is not the case with the new Moto 360. I have tried deferent notifications, and I clearly felt them with a subtle noise, I have tried it in my pocket as well and felt them too!
it would have been nice if you can control the intensity, but may be for the next update.
Thanks.

Thanks for the answer - I had been wondering about this too. Can you also comment on the mic sensitivity - how close do you have to hold it to your mouth for it to pick you up? Does it consistently pick you up correctly? I'm trying to decide between the Moto 360 42mm and the Huawei and have heard that the Huawei mic is a bit hit and miss. For example, Lisa from MobileTechReview had difficulty getting it to pick her up in her review - see it here: https://youtu.be/H_ISBzY96M0?t=5m43s
EDIT: Also curious how long charging from empty or almost empty to 100% takes on the wireless charger.

From my initial test yesterday, it is indeed a hit or miss. I had to repeat couple of times to get it right. It was always confusing breath with Breeze or What's up with Whatsapp where I was trying to send a whatsapp message with voice command. But honestly that was within my expectation, especially with 'tricky' words or commands.
I will do another test tonight and see, I will also check wither I have to hold it closely to my mouth, it was natural to get it closer every time I used it!

Will test that too. The watch had around 70% when I opened it. it took a while to fully charge but it was going through the initial setup.

EDIT: Also curious how long charging from empty or almost empty to 100% takes on the wireless charger.

It took almost 2 hours to charge from dead to 100%! way much more than expected. The good news is that it charged almost 50% in the 1st half hour. Anyway, i will be charging it overnight from now on, so its no biggy.
i currently have both watches and the moto vibrator is stronger. and i keep my watches relatively tight so they dont slide around and the huawei is definitely weaker. i can see how people who keep it loose may not feel it.

Thanks - is there any way to turn off the display, or the entire watch, while charging? Just thinking this might speed up the process, and reduce heat build-up. I seem to remember reading that there is a setting in the developer options in Android Wear for this.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm still on the fence on this one because I really like the Huawei. I'm going to go to Best Buy and check out the Moto in person.

Check out the thread next door: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-360-2015/general/360-t3220206
I'm in the same position as you, but I don't have anywhere local to go and see these watches. I had actually settled on the Huawei and made my decision, but with reading over the past few days, watching video reviews and asking some questions on forums I've now swung in completely the opposite direction and am back to buying a Moto 360 42mm again!
I decided to stick with the Huawei. I just like the look of it better especially the ambient screen. My issue was small and really hasn't proven to be a big deal. Thanks again everyone for your feedback!

I was curious about the vibration strength as well.. I think my V20 has a weaker vibration motor so I seem to miss a lot of SMS messages and calls... my hope was if I get a watch, i'll be able to easily feel the vibration on my wrist... I read a few people saying the vibration was weak.. but seems to be on here most say its decent. Thanks!
