Hi guys!
I was trying to install the Unicorn Rom. As recovery i use TWRP and the bootloader is unlocked. I deleted all caches and installed the three zip files. The rom, gapps and the fix.
But everytime after the installation I can see the unicorn icon until it disappears and then it stays black. If i push the power button the windows with the reboot options appears. any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Sounds like a launcher issue.
Since I am not familiar with that particular ROM would you mind explaining what the fix zip file is meant to fix?
Also, remember to post this issue under the unicorn ROM thread so that both the Developer is aware, and those who have a better knowledge of how that specific ROM works are aware also.

I flashed JTs nightly CM7 build number 14 yesterday, first time flashing CM7 and so I am just wondering if I did something wrong because I cannot get the android market. I followed the steps in the wiki found here but when I flash the cm_fascinatemtd_full-14.zip it powers the phone on directly, as in I go straight to my home screen and I never have gotten to flash GAPPS. So I have tried rebooting into CWM and then flashing GAPPS, installing it from ROM Manager and also reflashing CM7 from ROM Manager now I know there is a method in ROM manager but I need ROM manager PRemium to download CM7 nightlies. Is the easiest way to get the market and all subsequent GAPPS by going back to stock (ODIN to DL09 to ED05) then rooting and then buying ROM manager or did I miss something?
I have also tried sideloading the market but it never opens up, it shows a white screen then jumps to the most recent thing I had open
You should have setup screen (google sign in with android logo) when booting from CWM after flashing CM7 and gapps.
I would flash CM7 and gapp on CWM not on rom manager.(Wiping data/dalvik/cache)
Once you sign in for google account, you will be asked what google apps must be installed, and then market will be opened for installing the selected one.
I don't know exactly why, but once I missed that sign in chance (just skip), I haven't had any second chance anymore for installing gapps although I reflashed it again. Same as you've seen.

Boot into recovery via power button menu and select the gapps.zip and install and reboot

Are you sure you are booting into CWM via the Power Menu in CM7 and NOT by the 3 finger method??
This is very important, in order to get to the "right" CWM... Remember, once you are on CM7 or Vanilla GB, ONLY use the Power Menu option to go to CWM. (Or you can use ADB Reboot recovery too.)
Are you flashing CM7 AFTER you flash gapps? You should only flash gapps after you flash cm7, not the other way around. I second Neozen on making sure you're using the 'good' cwm.

Hello my name is John and thanks for looking in.
Ive tryed now about 8 times installing an this rom [ROM] [07.09.2012] MIUI 2.7.6 | CM9 & SEMC | Multi-Languages
and every time ive failed PLUS every time ive had to tft the mobile and install root over and over again + cwm
Now im so fu pissed of so im creating an thread help section for roms !
im the first one here asking for help so here i go.
Can some one give me a good tutorial on how to install roms ?
is it posseble to help me so i dont have to fail again !?
the last rom and my first to ive installed as i sayd 8 times and failed, what ive done then is this:
installed boot.img (kernal) then installed zip with cwm
last time i did it i installed zip then an patch zip and after that i flashed kernal but dident work either. PLZ help
One thing to remember is that a lot of people develop the roms on their own, for themselves, and losing your temper and swearing isn't exactly conducive to people helping you.
If you need to ask for help, perhaps cutting down the swearing and asking politely, even if you are frustrated, will help a lot.
There's a phrase that comes to mind... "You catch more flies with honey then vinegar".
There's no big science behind ROM flashing...
First thing, copy ROM zip file onto your SDcard.
If your bootloader is locked, make sure you have CWM recovery installed.
Start the phone. When you see the logo getting brighter, keep pressing volume DOWN until recovery menu appears.
If you have unlocked bootloader, flash a custom kernel. That way you have CWM.
Start your phone. The LED will change color to signal you to press volume DOWN in order to enter recovery.
Choose factory reset, wipe cache.
In some cases if the ROM won't boot you'll need to go advanced> select wipe dalvik.
After that choose install zip from sdcard and choose ROM zip.
That's it?
Make sure the your kernel is compatible with the ROM you're trying to flash.
For example cyanogenmod requires it's own kernel.
And make sure you're flashing a ROM that is actually intended for your device
I have the Evo LTE S-on (HTC bootloader unlocked) and TWRP installed. The only problem I'm having is that I cannot seem to get .zip files to open from the install menu in TWRP (recovery). I factory reset and try to open the zip from the install menu but it just says "Failed". Specifically I am trying Kushdeck's new CM10 ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
PS. Not sure if this will help but on the install menu my files show up twice, the first time with the normal naming and the second with "/." in front of them.
Did u try and re download it again? Sounds like a bad DL if it keeps failing after a couple of attempts

Ok I'm trying that now. I'm also wondering if there's a problems with my /ext-sd because everytime I factory reset it says it couldn't access that. Do you think that has anything to do with it? Is reinstalling TWRP an option?
Ok thanks so much the re-download did it. But now I'm at a black/blank screen after start up. I factory reset, installed the CM10 ROM then Gapps and wiped the dalvik/cache. Then when I reboot it just goes to the HTC screen and after that nothing. Ideas?
This is going to sound strange but try factory restet, wipe cache/dalvik and then just reboot without trying to flash anything.. I've been having some similar issues as mine isn't recoglizing any MD5 when i try to flash a new rom.. I wiped my phone and have tried to flash a few roms and it fails every time and in wiping my phone it somehow took out my backup so without any other options (that I knew of) I just rebooted and luckily it loaded a completely bare vipor rom like what I started out with when I originally rooted.. BTW, did you create a backup before trying to flash? Should always make a backup....
Ya I had backed up. Turns out I needed to manually flash the boot.img which fixed the issue

Thanks for this. I had the same problem, (S-ON, TWRP. black screen on boot). I was able to flash stock-based ROMs, but not CM10, so I suspected it had something to do with the things that HTCDev won't allow the recovery access to, but the logs from TWRP didn't throw any errors, so while I suspected boot, I didn't know what to do about it. And everyone knows that it's easy to be caviler with everything is working, but as soon as you start having problems, you get gun shy about trying things.
Your post was the solution for me. Extract the boot.img file found inside the zip or your chosen ROM, and flash it using fastboot:
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Hey out of curiosity did you like any of the stock based ROMs? If so which ones? I kinda wanna try one out but haven't settle on one
I just rooted my Nook Tablet.
After rooting it I made the mistake of installing cm10.1.2 without wiping first. My first issue was that it stuck on the cm loading gif. I figured out I could get into recovery by holding the power and home button and do a factory reset which let me boot up fully, but it had a weird screen glitch right before the cm loading gif.
So, now I have all my problems. I want to make whatever I did clean so I don't have any issues come up in the future. First of all I can't get Google Apps set up. None of the APKs work for it. To counter this I tried to get Rom Manager installed directly from the CW website but within Rom Manager it tells me I need the latest version in order to download any roms.
To make things worse I cannot seem to get into recovery mode. Every time I try to boot into recovery mode I get the screen that says I need to reboot my tablet and if the problem persists I need to contact B&N support.
What I'd like to do is somehow get ROM Manager working and install a fresh version of CM with a data/cache wipe and then I feel like it would work but if anybody knows a better way to do it or what please let me know.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43326042&postcount=123 for pointers on how to flash CM10 internally on emmc.
If you prefer to stick with pure CM10.1.2, just use its ROM zip file in step 2(c) but in which case you'll also need to flash CWM recovery separately (e.g., flashing flashable_CWM_6.0.2.x.zip from http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery).
Thanks for the link. I followed his steps as close as i could and everything seems to be working flawlessly.
The weirdest thing is happening with my Redmi Note 5 Plus after flashing from a custom rom of Oreo to Android 9. I started with flashing the kernel with Dark Ages's, then I flashed Resurrection I think. It worked fine but once I went back to TWRP to install GAPPS my filesystem was corrupted, at least to TWRP it was but the rom was working fine. I decided to try another rom, PixelExperience I guess but after a successful install I just got a black screen and corrupted filesystem. Tried a couple more roms but the same happened. I tried another kernel but didn't change anything. Went back to Dark Age's. Then I decided to try to update the recovery to OrangeFox and this was a success (though I couldn't get fastboot to work, I had to install via twrp) and I'm not getting corrupted filesystems no more but no matter the rom I install I get the black screen. And now I installed Resurrection again and I still got the black screen but according to the phone's vibrations/sounds and screen dim the phone seems to be working fine, but with a black lit screen...Recovery works fine though...What is happening?
Ok I've been all day around this and I'm going crazy. What's the correct procedure to install these so called Treble roms? Cause I went head first from a custom rom on Android 8 to Android 9 using the standard procedure and it's not working. I have tried using diferent GSI's, not working. I've used the original Treble method with the DP4, not working.
Right now the best I can do is install Resurrection and all seems to work but recovery mode (TWRP and Redwolf) doesn't recognize internal storage. With orangefox the internal storage gets recognized but can't mount it. It's driving me mad, any suggestion? I guess the ultimate question is, how does one correctly installs a treble Rom on Redmi 5 Plus?
Not sure.. ...what is actually happening......but you needs to install the best recovery for Redmi 5 plus/note 5 which is Orange fox with their latest version 10.0
As you said about black screen...you need to wipe system, before flashing the custom rom this will allow the clean installation of flashing rom and system files.

I managed to get past the black screen problem with the installation of the original rom, I'm guessing it was that kernel I had installed, idk. I'll try one last time using orange fox and resurrection.
EDIT: With Orange Fox I can't mount internal storage or usb storage at all...
EDIT2: Wait a minute, "Enable MTP" has to be active right? My bad, I guess Orange Fox and Resurrection work! Now I'm off to install gapps and really test the rom, thanks for the help. I'm leaving the thread open so if anyone has similar problems to mine can contact me. Or if that's not a good policy I ask the mods to close this pls.
MTP is already enabled, all PIE rom are the same, installation went well but after installing it auto boot up and boom black screen.
Black Screen on lavender + ParanoidOS

Hey, im using lavender (Redmi note 7). I had installed Pixel Experience + OrangeFox. Later I clean wiped PE and installed Paranoid. Everything was successful. But when I booted up my phone, there is only a blackscreen after the redmi logo!!! I havent installed a different kernel, so how do i fix this?
I would just flash the firmware again through the recovery menu
