Prolly been asked numerous times but cant seem to find anything on it. I spent about 5 hours today just rooting my phone because instructions are never clear and i had to do trial and error before i finally got it, so i am by no means an expert!
I have a verizon lg g2 and am wanting to put the malladus 1.2.2 rom on it but have absolutely no clue how!
Directions say flash rom, but i have no clue what that even means. I have done this back in the day 3 times to my original galaxy s and got it but the directions were clear.
do i have to get e recovery program? i read something about that and also a clockworkmod or something?
So if someone could or would have the patience to explain to me step by step what needs done, i would GREATLY appreciate it. Like i said, all i have done is rooted it and i downloaded the malladus 1.2.2, the lg apps, and the gapps that it said i needed but dont know where to go from there.

I have made sure the name matches the img file in my folder and everything yet still nothing!! PLEASE HELP!! im going on 9 hours now messing with this and have got o where
well thanks to all your help or lack there of, i now have a bricked phone because no one wants to tell me anything or help. Thanks
Not everyone here has a Verizon LG G2, You should have come to the IRC and directed your questions there first and been more patient if you're unfamiliar with these sort of things. Your bricked phone is no ones fault but your own, sorry.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
You're welcome. You asked for help, chose not to wait so you went ahead and did it - and failed. Yes, that's our fault. You shouldn't do things you have NO clue about. The first thing you should do is to READ. If you can't find the things you need, then SEARCH. There are over 5 million registred users here, so your questions have most likely been asked several times before, i.e they are here and you can search for them.

Dude, this is not a user support forum and no one is sitting around waiting for someone like yourself to ask questions that can only be answered by doing research that you should be doing yourself. You and only you are responsible if you bricked your device.
If you want help, your chances are higher if you post in your device specific forum, provide enough detail for people to know exactly what you did so they can provide accurate advice, and then be patient and wait for as long as it takes. Or you could do your own research and figure it out.
Funny, i didnt brick my phone, just was curious as to how many people would decide to talk if it meant they could get rude with me lol
And i posted where i thought i was supposed to, i couldnt find my phones forum. Sorry, and i DID read, i have been reading non stop, the advice just isnt working.
I tried flashify after reading that it worked (on here) and it said it did but after reboot i just get a dead droid and have to hold down vulume key and power to get it back on and recovery or download startup dont work now!
I am not impatient and i understsand im not the center of everything, just figured someone could chime in with some advice, but i guess its only worth typing if you have something unhelpful to say!
Hi everyone. I have a galaxy s4 on verizon and rooted. The phone is MK2 I believe. I have installed the safestrap recovery and nandroided my stock phone.
Every time I try to flash a custom ROM, the phone boots up, shows me the safestrap options to boot into recovery or continue. Once I hit continue, the phone just sits there with a black screen and doesn't boot up. I tried CM 11 and I tried Beanstalk and neither works. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this? I'm wiping data, cache, and dalavik cache before each flash. I flash the ROM and then I flash gapps. The recovery says the flash was successful.
Thanks for the help!

I have read that thread. I have watched the videos. When I try to use goo manager to do the loki hack, the phone boots up after installing a recovery and gives me an android screen that says DOWNLOADING. DO NOT UNPLUG DEVICE message and that just sits there forever. When I install via safestrap by creating a second partition and installing the rom there, as well as zipping the gapps and the requisite zzizp file, it just boots up into a blank screen. The only thing htat actually works the whole time is a nandroid backup. I don't know what I am doing incorrectly. Can you help please?

look man. I think I've been respectful enough here. I've read the threads you recommended. I watched videos online. I have tried. I really have. I am new to this but you don't have to keep berating me for no reason. If you know what I'm supposed to do and can explain it to me in an easy to understand method, I'd really appreciate it. If not, then I'm not sure what you're trying to do because telling me to keep reading the same things that i've read over and over again without understanding them isn't getting either of us anywhere. I don't get the jargon. I don't get the lingo. I don't know what I'm doing wrong EVEN AFTER I've read through everything, so while I appreciate your attempts to educate me by trial, I'd really appreciate it if you just gave me an answer. If you don't have one, thats okay too, but at least we can stop playing this stupid game of cat and mouse.

If you have done what you have said then because are on mk2 the ONLY option you have is safestrap after you are rooted You can't use goo manager. .you can't use twrp or cwm. You are limited to safestrap 3.71 and the couple of Roms thar are compatible to run...This is obvious from the getgo. If you don't understand the jargon then read and research more until you do...otherwise you will brick your phone and it will cost you money and time...

Again...reading will tell you that you can't go back in firmware updates. Safestrap is a viable option and I have been running hyperdrive since safestrap was released.

OK, you want easy to understand. Let's try this:
Your phone has a version. In this case, it's apparently MK2.
You're doing stuff that worked on the original I545, build MDK. Those processes won't work on MK2, which is a fact that has been stated here over and over again, That's why you're getting berated, because this is a daily occurrence. We get people who don't read, don't understand what they're doing, and end up bricking their phones, just like you.
So here's what you would have found out if you had read around. Yes, I know there's a lot of threads here, but..
Any revision of the I545 later than MDK (ME7, MI1, MJ7, MK2) can't have a custom recovery, only Safestrap.
Any site where you got directions to install Goo Manager and flash away is wrong.
You're risking destroying your expensive phone by flashing before reading. Please look in to the Safestrap thread here and over in Android Development.
As we say, a little reading goes a long way.
Thank you!

I gotta say, I appreciate your tenacity here.
I too am fairly new to all this on the S4. I have done plenty of other flashes on other devices, and every time I go to work on a new device the learning curve is steep.
The 'scene' for lack of a better term has become a very convoluted mess filled with people that are quick to berate and think everyone is an illiterate asshole looking for a handout.
Everyday there seems to be another term or something I have not heard of. It is all well and good for the experts that have been in the thick of it from day one to just say, "Go read the forums!!!111one" and I get it, too many times the same questions are being asked. But the fact remains that if a single post like this would get stickied and maybe placed at the top General Q&A thread we would have an easy place to go for our answers and wouldn't have to start a new thread with a question like this and get flamed.
I mean good grief, you start reading the forum for OctOS, and nowhere does it say you cannot come from anything other than MDK originally. It does say that TWRP is the only supported method, but Safestrap, once booted it says at the top "Safestrap 3.70 (TWRP v2.6.3.1)" so how are we not to be confused?
You start reading a thread from the beginning and get terms like AOSP, GPe, Aroma, LOKI, Odexed, Deodexed, etc.. and all you can do is start searching for what each of those mean, which leads to you countless threads of "Shut up you lazy puke, and go read the forums!"
I know I'm ranting, but honestly, if you are taking the time to post a flame and tell someone to go read, then you could take the time and help point them in the right direction instead. I really appreciate the time both you guys took to answer his (and my) questions. It honestly did help me, and it was just a plain simple answer. I am glad I continued to read the thread though, because it certain started off as one of those 'shutup and read' threads. If there were something as simple as "So you want to mod you VZW S4?", stickied at the top of the S4 General forum, I for one would not have ended up here reading this same thread because I was in the same boat as this poor guy. Hell just making this thread a sticky would save you countless hours of replying to threads and telling people to read. I know all too well though that there are plenty lazy people out there just looking for the quick answer though, so believe me, I understand. But please remember we were all noobs at one point in time, and sometimes just need to ask someone for help.
So the long and short of it is, for us that were not smart enough to block or not take updates, or were unfortunate enough to have to swap equipment, if we are past the MDK build then we are stuck only being able to: root, install Safestrap 3.70, and possibly install one of the few Safestrap compatible roms based off the ME7 or MK2 official builds. I assume this is because the bootloader is locked on these versions and will only boot ROMS that have the same base signature, right? At least that is what I have been able to piece together from the countless threads I have tried reading and understanding.
And just because I mentioned them:
AOSP - Android Open Source Project, The raw version of Android that is free to use and modify for everyone. Countless custom roms are built on this.
GPe - Google Phone Edition? Not quite sure on this one. I think it means all the out-of-the-box Google Apps Functionality. Though I am still hazy.
Aroma - I believe this is a set of install scripts used by custom rom devs now days that allows their users to install the options they want. I have yet to be able to use a rom that has it, so I am not sure.
LOKI - A tool from Dan Rosenberg that allows people to bypass locked bootloaders. Verizon quickly caught the hole it used though and was patched after MDK, so that is why we on MK2 cannot have nice things.
Odexed vs. Deodexed - Refers to how an application runs and more specifically how it's memory space is handled. There is a nice write up but I am not allowed to post a link, essentially though odexed based ROMs will boot on the first load more quickly but are very customizible as far as themes and such go. Deodexed ROMs have to build the cache from instructions in the APK files, which take longer for the first boot only, or after a Dalvik wipe, and are just as fast after that first boot. Deodexed are more customizable.
Sorry for the long post, I am just tired of seeing threads that start off like these, while in the search for information. It was nice to see someone provide some guidance in the end though and I wanted to acknowledge that and rant a bit. [/RANT]
Okay, Im pretty new to XDA forums, and well, android devices in general. I recently purchased a Galaxy Tab 3. Android Version: 4.4.2
Base: 1337UCUFNB1
Im wanting to root for more performance and just to have alot more access to my device.
Now i have searched on google for hours at a time, but cant seem to find the same exact device tutorial for my phone.
I need this for work, so I want to make sure im doing this exactly right, and don't screw up my phone, or loose any contact data or anything of that sort. Can someone link me to a Simple tutorial that can help me root this device? Im new to the Android community so sorry for asking a stupid question! thanks guys!

1st off, the Galaxy Tab definitely doesn't have a virus. Malware perhaps, but not a virus. To make sure you completely rid your tablet of any left over issues, it would be recommended to reinstall the whole OS via the Odin program as that rewrites the /system partition too as the factory data reset only clears out /data. After you reinstall, then do a factory reset again. If the issue persists after that, there might be another problem that is not software related. It would serve you well to understand how to use Odin. It is a great tool that can get you out of MOST trouble you can find yourself in when modifying your devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459734
Just make sure you use the corresponding firmware/software for your model as there are a few different Galaxy Tabs and it matters the size and wifi or data+wifi as well.
As far as the rooting of the S4, well, unfortunately you got pretty much the trickiest one to do. Remember Odin ^^^, this will be another reason to get comfortable with it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663545

OH!! Thanks for the advice on the Tab. Hmm The s4 is the trickiest one? Is it even worth the time to root then? I mean, I had the tab for a week rooted. And it was very useful. Would the s4 be the same?
And would there be a video tutorial on this? That way im 100% sure im doing it right?

Is it worth it to root it? Only you would be able to answer that. Personally, I couldn't imagine NOT being rooted. I hate not having control over my phone. There are a couple of extra steps here, but nothing some careful reading and well placed questions couldn't get you through. And the chance of you doing something that can't be fixed by Odin, is not impossible, but very unlikely. I've done stuff like this 100s of times and have never bricked one doing these types of things. This thread seems to have broken it down a bit more clearly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51331630
But read that, and read through some of the comments. Any issue you come across has almost certainly popped up somewhere in those 2 threads with 100s of responses.
Now one thing im not understanding, is the downgrading? And How do ROMS work?
and how would i know what model it is. Example: Mk2,Mk4?
Well, there is currently no method to root 4.4.2 as is, which is why you need to downgrade back to 4.3, since there is a way to root on it, and then it tells you how to update back to 4.4.2 while keeping the root access. Roms (in the phone/tablet world) are basically a package (usually zip format) that contains the operating system. Think of it as a Windows or Linux install disc, in zip format.
Just a quick little beginner's guide to the main terminology you will see:
http://www.androidpit.com/custom-rom-and-root-the-most-important-terms-explained
Okay! Thanks for all of your help! Ill try to root my device. If i have any questions, ill come back here Thanks!
Happy to help, though you might have better luck asking your questions in those threads. I understand how to do this, but haven't had a chance to root one on 4.4.2, so the people who have done it recently probably have it fresh in their mind still.

If you are new to this device you probably should read the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786190.. And the answer to all your questions are technically yes. If you do not brick or break your tablet anywhere along the way and providing that you are willing to do all homework necessary and then some before attempting to do anything.. You probably need to read through all the threads about brick devices to know what things not to attempt that will cause you to break your device.. Remember all the information is here if you learn how to use this forum and remember each section of the forum has several pages of threads of information.. You have a whole lot of reading to do if you do not want to end up another of this devices victims lmao
Don't get me wrong. I own a nexus 5 and the nexus 7 (2013) (rooted, custom kernel, exposed etc.) but due to the open system and bootloader so as the asop makes it easier to handle it. I already read the warnings but the Windows supported root tool should be a easy way.... not?
Okay obviously

there is not a problem getting it rooted you may have read the warning but you're not understanding it.The problem is not rooting the device. The problem is what people are deciding to do with their root access . And it may be my imagination or may not but this seems to be a favorite tablet for mommy and daddy to buy the kiddies.. Then they come here not knowing how to do their own research and find the easy way to root their device , There n fine there again not a real problem it's what they are doing ...BRICKING! There again not really a problem for me but when they come to this forum acting like somebody owes them something or somebody better step up and hurry hurry come help them fix their device before mommy and daddy find out ... Burying perfectly good information that I like to access under redundant questions because they are too lazy to do their own homework .. Repeatedly asking the same questions over and over again that have already been answered over and over again they just refuse to read the information and expect others to first to come to their special lil thread and inform them like this is kindergarten again . And somebody should be holding their hand because mommy and daddy bought them a special kindle fire..THAT IS LOCKED DOWN.. With no fast boot capabilities currently working there is a lot of talk about it but no consistent.... Repeat there is not a one click fix for this device ....... unlike most other tablets like I said one of your questions asked if you can just flash and fix ... At this time NO. If you really know what you are doing and you are not afraid of or can afford to turn your tablet into a paperweight.. There are ways to get your system flashed too repair mistakes or goofy behavior (even return to stock) but not from BRICK STATE. Long story short your 1 Click Easy Way to root.. Through ignorance, laziness , and the comprehension level of a fruit fly .. For this device in the wrong hands might as well be a sledge hammer ... Repeat in no way is a Nexus 5 ,at the moment remotely similar other then android base, to this tablet... Is what you should have gotten from the thread that I posted a link to... flash and modify at your own risk and Responsibly.. Nobody here is responsible for anything you do to your tablet. Or responsible for coming to rescue you if or when you screw it up... Please read all the brick threads to save everybody lots of famed face palms and headaches... Us and yourself trust me.
Thanks. I know it can be depressing to tell people "you question or problem was answered just two days ago, just read and collect the right information you need" I don't want to change necessary files like build.prop or do things where there is an exact warning to do so because it's not really stable...
The warning pinned to this forum just got me unquestioning if there are serious problems in every usually customisation (root, custom recovery, gapps) so doing just that could probably brick the tab because maybe the closed system makes everything risky and unpredictable in contrast to a vanilla android device.
well

Well for example I am only a mechanic I'm 42 years old I am not well-versed in computers but android have been a hobby of mine for about five years .. But I have very little problems following directions. And I have been able to accomplish anything I wanted to do with many many phones and tablets including this one... So if you're willing and have the understanding that this thing is very fickle and likes to actup
Where other devices would not be problems... It can be a very nice device for the right person and a very big headache for the wrong one. There are currently a lot a bugs with pretty much anything that you try to do with this thing if not done with absolute precision and patience. And perseverance. I currently own three different HDX tablets with several other Samsung.. And I switch frequently. I do have Google on my HDX but I do not depend on them for all of my Google needs. Remember at least for now while these things are locked up tight they are pretty much only an Amazon media device along with if you are willing to brave and yada yada yada you may get some Google services working like many of us have. Enjoy all of my HDX thoroughly but I also have a understanding of the current limitations.
When I upgraded to Lollipop OTA, my phone got stuck in a bootloop and I had to do a full reset, and lost some pictures and a few videos on my phone. I’d like to root my Z3V and recover the lost files. I’ve used disk digger pro in the past when my tablet had a bootloop and I had to reset, but it was lame and didn't recover anything. Anyone recommend another better app file recovery?
Now to the root issue. I’ve rooted a few phones in years past, and I know enough to be very dangerous. However, I liked and easily followed the Bionic’s root procedures on the unlockr . com page a few years ago: https://theunlockr.com/2013/05/05/how-to-root-the-motorola-droid-bionic-running-ics/. Everything was spelled out clearly even when running the flash tool - what buttons to push, when to plug in phone, click that, this and so on. And I was hoping for something that helpful for the Z3V root process.
Being a newbie (or rusty novice), I really do appreciate bullriders step by step instructions to upgrade to 5.0.1, i.e. push/hold this, click there, click this. However, I want to keep 5.1.1, so before I brick my phone and/or run out of people to help me, can bullrider or anyone else update the steps for root to 5.1.1? Giga’s guide is great – great for a techie that does this stuff all the time, but certainly way above the level of novice. Perhaps Giga can help one last time before he leaves off to S7 land, if he has time.
Also, is this youtube video posted in bullriders thread still applicable? http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/...ia-z3v-to-5-0-lollipop-root-complete-t3295805.
Again, I want to recover my lost pics and files, and I haven’t installed any of my apps for fear of overwriting anything, but I'd like to start using my apps again from before I upgraded. Any help clarifying or simplifying and adding information to Giga’s guide or updating bullrider’s guide would be most helpful for the newbies who lurk on this thread.

if your pictures were on your internal storage they are gone forever-to my knowledge. I'm sorry that's why I have mine on my SD card now. For root download kingroot it works with our 5.1.1. And if you were taking an ota and bootlooped which can happen I would be calling Verizon if your with them and try to get compensated for the data loss.
