Slow Wifi - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got the T-mobile version of this phone recently. For some reason, the wifi speeds are pretty slow when I run speedtests. I have a 100Mbps+ connection at home running a dual-band network of G and N. But no matter what, this phone can't pass even 9mbps. Anyone else have issues? My other Android phones have no problems with speeds. Seems like the wifi antenna is weak in this phone.

Can't say I experience the same. When on my standard 2.4Ghz WiFi I max at 54Mb/s when on my 5Ghz WiFi I tap out my bandwidth for my connection

Your router must be a poor performer, configured improperly, or you're picking up a lot of interference. My WiFi signal is the only signal in the area (rural). I have a pretty decent ASUS router. On both my 2.4 and 5 GHz connections, I hit 50+ mbps.

I am having the same exact issue you are. I also have a 100 megs and it only hits 50. I have the Google on hub router. With my nexus 6 I had no issues. How can we change the WiFi band's on the phone. There is no option like the n6 in settings.

Hmm. Interesting. We have a lot of wireless devices at home and this one seems to perform the slowest for some reason.

checked it after reading this with two different apps and both were slow, even after rebooting my wifi AP only getting 2Mb down and 5Mb up max when my Linux box on wired connecting is doing 60/5.5 ... might be some iffy wifi chips around?
**update**
Played around with the Amped AP settings and have the 5Ghz channel on AC only now I'm getting good speeds for wireless, around 15-20mb down on my V10, however my laptop is getting close to the 60Mb that my wired boxes are... no idea why the phone wifi would be so much slower. Have not rooted/rom'd or anything to my phone, only half a day old.

I am not sure if this has to do with anything. I restored my phone yesterday to before I flashed xposed. Because it did break smart settings and second screen function and maybe other things. My Wi-Fi is working like it should.

I can confirm that wifi speed is definitely an issue with the V10 (at least with the AT&T version). My wife has a Nexus 6P and she gets 30+ Mbps. I'm only getting (at most) 3 Mbps. My Note 4 was getting 30+ Mbps as well so its not my home wifi equipment.
I'm hoping an update gets released to fix this.

I am having the same exact issue. Very slow wifi speeds. I have the t mobile variant, unlocked it and now on ATT.

and just to confirm it again, i'm now connected to my corporate wifi network and I'm still getting about .5 Mbps and spiking to about 3 Mbps. I'm going to factory reset and try again to see if its a problem with software.

Anyone who finds out anything on this, please let me know, as I am having the same issue. I don't want to use all my data, but getting better speeds on LTE than WiFi. Using the Verizon variant. Don't know if i should get my phone swapped out or not at this point. Asked my friend at Verizon, and he said no one else is complaining of the issue.
EDIT: Strangely enough, i'm getting fine speed test, but most of the time, i'm timing out on stuff in apps. It quite annoying.

My speedtests run pretty well; I can get over 100Mbps, which is 90% of my Comcast bandwidth. However, establishing connections and/or maintaining them in apps or web browsing seems to be very laggy/intermittent. For example, when I refresh Instagram, it will show the text parts of the posts, but it takes another 5-10 seconds for the images to appear. Similar experience in Google Play and Chrome -- text comes down pretty quick, but the additional data like images and such take another 5-10 seconds. My LG G2 on the same network works seamlessly and without pauses. I have factory reset my V10 twice with no improvements. I have the Verizon V10 variant.
One articleI saw mentions a possible wifi firmware problem when SD cards are inserted. I pulled my SD card with no improvement.
This really seems like a firmware/hardware issue. Hope it gets addressed soon.

Sadly, still having this issue.

TWC Wi-Fi, guaranteed for 50mbps and that's pretty much what I'm getting.

It's really hard to explain, but i know that the people on here get it, it's not that it's slow when it's working, cause speed tests are fine, it's the initial connection on some apps that just timeout, or take a really long time to load, but it doesn't do it on LTE, only on WiFi. Instagram for instance, takes forever to load pics, videos, even the pages sometimes, just sits there and thinks, Facebook on occasion, google wallet for sure, i have to go to data most of the time to load google wallet (something with android pay), but webpages seems to load fine, except for some SSL sites, again, slow to load....Now that i'm thinking about it, i wonder if it is something with SSL that's causing some things to be slow....Think about it, speedtests aren't SSL, so those would run fine, but google wallet and android pay are SSL for sure, i'm not 100% on Instagram or Facebook? Can anyone confirm that the traffic on those are SSL?
**Sometimes when i'm typing stuff out, it all comes together in my head...lol***

Ya I hear ya, although the speeds are good sometimes there is slight delay?

Not so much speestests, they always run good because they are running over HTTP, not HTTPS. It seems like apps and webpages that run SSL run really slow. But again, I do not see this on cell data.

Add me to the list of people having wifi problems. Speedtest tests my home connection at 180Mbs. But browser surfing drags along.

[Q] Slow wifi?

Anyone else experiencing slow wifi performance with the Galaxy S II?
Running the speedtest.net app against the same server with all the same settings, from my Nexus One I get 8100kbps down, 1100kbps up. On the Galaxy S II I get 1900kbps down, 1100kbps up. The phones were next to each other, and I ran the tests several times and always got very similar results.
Will be flashing with the latest firmware later today (currently it has the O2 firmware on) but just wondered if anyone else was seeing similar issues?
Strange you say that i keep getting max 1900 down on my mobile internet no matter where i go.

My Wifi super fast .
jje
I get
ping: 52 down:8099kbs up:734kbs on phone
ping: 45 down:11450kbs up:690kbs on laptop
so not much difference
ping 46ms, down 14585kbps, up 4807kbps
over wifi with one bar signal at other end of house.
On Virgin 50Mb service here, and didnt expect anything much more over my wifi.
Weird.
My wifi signal strength as reported by Wifi Analyzer is actually slightly better on the S II than it is on the Nexus One. The firmware update has made no difference to the performance I'm seeing.
Will try it on the work wifi network tomorrow and see if that shows any different behaviour...

i hope so because i get superb wifi range and performacne on my nexus one with 2.3.3. my gut feeling is the SGS2 would be a step down and i wouldnt get wifi signal in certain parts of my house where i do with the n1.
The wifi is nothing short of excellent as far as I'm concerned:

Even though you're connected to the same wifi network the two phones could've connected to different channels. On my desktop I get everything from 1Mbps (very rarerly) to 140Mbps (more likely) and that stays at the same spot all the time
And it got nothing to do with signal strength either as I can have full bars on my desktop and still get 1Mbps (or 20 or 40 or 80 and so forth).

Jammy git!
Orange's data in Bristol has slowly been getting worse. I was barely touching 400kbps the other day. Seemed to speed up a little today though.
I am also experiencing poor wifi speeds. On speedtest.net with my home router, SG2 is getting 0.6 Mbps download speed where my pc is getting 7.5 Mbps. More than 10 times slower?! Any ideas?
Slow Wi-Fo on SGS 2
I have exactly the same problem with my new Galaxy S II. Put the iold SGS and the new SGS 2 side by side and the SGS gets 5.3mbits/s (the broadband connection speed roughly) and the new SGS2 gets 0.9-1.2Mbits/s.
As I have a dual mode g/n router I have tried changing channels on it, turning off n support and everything else I can think off. The wireless router by the way is an Edimax model that works absolutely fine with everything else in the house.
I have also tried eveal different broadband speed tests, all with roughly the same result.
Anyone have any ideas? Mine is that Samsung did their usual thing and released the product with a great big bug in it that won't get fixed for months..sigh.
Slow Wi-Fi Fixed
Got it!
Changed the router to channel 6 (I'd already tried 7,9 and 11) and ..it now works just as well as the old SGS or anything else in the house.. with b/g/n enabled on the AP.
Happy man.
No issues here, Speedtest.net Android app giving me just under 15mb on my 16mb connection which is pretty much the same as I get with my laptop.
Slow Wi-Fi on SGS 2
Well..having thought that a channel change on the AP router fixed it..it did..but only for three or four speed tests, then without changing anything on the router it reverted back to ~1 Mbit/s.
So..I reset the router without changing any settings and lo and behold the SGS 2now seems to be functioning correctly again, with download speeds the same as my other systems.
So, if you're getting the same problem try a channel change on the AP ..or just reset it, it might work. It's also possible of course that the router has a bug and the 'n'th system that connects to it gets these problems. I'll set up another AP and see if the problem stays with the phone or follows the AP.
I had similar problems with very poor wifi. With speeds much worse than my wifes iphone 4 and and my old iphone 3gs. It did seem to be intermittent, but it happened on two different routers numerous channels and settings. I sent it back to and am getting a replacement.
I am also getting slow wifi speeds. Like 1,5 mbit instead of 8 mbit. Reconnected lots of times. Changed channels to 2 instead of 1.
Changed to WEP instead of WPA+WPA2, but nothing helped.
With vodafone i get just 3,6 mbit(max)
Anyone got an idea?
any body can help ? i have this problem too ! slow wifi with very bad signal power !
no body can help ? its hard to use wifi in this phone ...

[Q] SGSII Weak Wifi Radio/Modem

Just bought the phone yesterday, and I noticed that this is the 2nd Samsung phone that is having these WiFi issues.
Sorry of this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it. Google is no help as the searches weren't specific to SGS2 I777 for AT&T.
I can connect to wifi, but the speeds are horrendous! I have a 60mb connection at home connected to my wireless router.
Every phone, iPhone 3GS, iPod, HTC Inspire, iPhone 4S - all have no wifi issues resulting in slow download speeds. Each having a download speed of 5-7 mb or more.
The SGSII, gives me the following results when connected to WiFi:
{

and the connections just don't get anywhere near what my other phones can get in download speeds. AND - this is my second Samsung phone in 3 weeks. 3 weeks ago I had the Infuse 4G, and it had the same issue. Took it back. Then got the SGS2 on special , but I'm thinking of taking it back before my 14 days is up if nothing can be solved.
When its off WiFi I can get 3-5mps down/.85mps up.

Is this an issue that a custom ROM can fix?
Are there Radios that can fix this WiFi issue?
Thanks for your help.

Routers sometimes have issues with different radios. Try your phone on a different brand/model router and see what those results are.

Westell, linksys, ubiquiti, netgear have in general worked for me. Issues sometimes with the netgear. Huge A+ on the ubiquiti. That thing is amazing. Run 24/7 and not even a hiccup.

I am having the exact same abysmal throughput issues with my SGSII as well. Home router and work router are both Cisco. I have a 50 meg cable connection amd I cant get over 5 mbps on my home router standing 10 feet from it. My captivate gets better throughput on both wifi and HSPA.
I've tried several different apns for HSPA and Nada. Also tried 5 different ROMs so far, to no avail.

Hopefully somebody out there can help figure out this radio problem. A quick Google search turned up a lot of other folks in other forums with the same problem.
I'm going to take it back later today to get a replacement.
For high end phones, there should be no reason why the Wifi radio can not get better speeds than regular radio.
Just got power back! Talk about being really happy I have an extended battery. No way I would have made it through yesterday last night and all this morning.
But anywho, I see cm7 has a few different modems, I was wondering where they came from. My only guess is the international.
If that's so I'm more than willing to start flashing modems to see what will work with stock rom.

When phones first come out it's not uncommon for them to have issues that need to be ironed out.
The iphone 4 would drop signal when 'held wrong'. The captivate couldn't get a gps lock to save it's life, atrix couldn't use 4g, plus many others. After they were in consumers hands fixes got rolled out in less than 6 months(usually), or a fix was available even sooner from xda
Hopefully this is just a software issue that can be fixed easily.
Sent from my páhhōniē
Well not exactly the issue I am seeing. I am having issues with the radio not getting quite the same distance my other phones can get. Not sure if a software fix would help there but here is to hoping it is software and not hardware. It might also be my router considering I am still using g and not n.
I have never had problems with my broadcomm based Asus WL520gU (WiFi G) running tomato firmware with my SGS2. I am getting at least 9Mbps when WiFi is full bar, although I should agree that this phone has weaker signal in comparison with my older phone.
BTW: Galaxy S 2 also uses broadcomm chipset for WiFi and Bluetooth.
Thumbs up for tomato!

The modems MAY help out with wifi issues as well. The modems came from 1. Our original modem that was shipped with our phones "UCKH7", then we have had three LEAKED versions so far with "UCKJ1, UCKJ2" modems from the leaked roms, then we got another.leak for our phones "UCKJ4" ALL those modems are/were made for the i777, and in fact the i9100 (international SGS2) modems do not work in our phones. You can also find another user whose post is now in the sticky threads has the same modems but with the update script for users of samsung based roms.

1) Are you using a case? Some people have had severe problems with some cases.
2) The TCP buffer sizes in the stock kernel are a bit small - the buffersize fixes in my kernel fixed it for some people. However for cell data, it's probably just AT&T. In 90% of the country you're lucky to see 3 Mbps.
I think I found out why it won't work well. My phone is running baseband i777UCKH7.
Its supposed to run on Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. I run a wireless Linksys B router at home and at work. Never gave my phones any issue (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPods, HTC Inspire, BlackBerry Bold 9000, 8300, 8900 and work Laptop).
It seems that B/G are not well suited for the phone or Samsungs Wireless radios, but it easily picks up N signals without any issue. I could be wrong, but just my thoughts.
I might have to upgrade my routers, but for now, I will just do it well with what I got. New Linksys routers don't come cheap, even on craigslist.
Go for ubiquiti (ubnt.com). Their equipment is amazing and really good prices.
The AirRouter
http://ubnt.com/airrouter
is one of the best plug in and go routers I've seen. It doesn't support ddwrt or tomato but it's uptime is the best I've seen.
Most times I can find it online through resellers for $50 shipping included.

The bullet/nanostation is the most useful thing they have in my opinion. Zero drivers. Just plug in ethernet, configure over ip, and it puts out internet through the ethernet port. Crazy power going to the antenna. Way more than anything I've seen in any store.
Primarily they sell to small isp's so most their equipment is designed to be ran 24/7 with no issues.

In depth comparison of 3g speed between OG Evo 4g and Evo 4g LTE

So I know alot of us are having issues with data speed on our Evo 4G LTE's
Im doing a comparison test using speedtest.net. Because I dont have both devices activated at the same time, I had to do it on one then activate the other and do it on that as well. The phones were placed in the exact same location using the exact same tower, which I am about 1000 feet from.
Evo 4g LTE
- signal strength 3 bars -94 dBm

Evo 4g
- signal strength 4 bars -88 dBm
Now I know this information is slightly off because of the time difference but as you can see the speeds vary greatly. I am going to keep my Evo 4g LTE for a few more days to see if sprint does anything about this.
Things I have done to try and fix the speed issues:
-reset the phone
-reprovision the phone using my MSL
-update PRL
-update profile
-I tested another Evo 4g LTE and got the same dismal results
Sorry I forgot to mention the Sprint rep told me those speeds on the EVO 4g LTE are normal -_-
Wow that was sure "In depth"
In one of the posts on here, there's reference to some optimized network settings. I wonder if that will help.
I don't have the link handy, nor do I recall book marking/subscribing to it. Effectively, it optimizes tcp/ip settings, similar to what was done when going from dialup to dsl/cable; larger receive window buffers and a few other changes.
Sorry I started this thread comparing both phones from 4 different locations on different towers at the same time but for whatever reason none of the screen shots saved on my EVO 4G LTE and I had already switched phones out 4 times and was getting tired of it. But in 3 of the 4 locations the original EVO out shined the 4G LTE. Only in a parking lot with blue skys were the 2 devices similar in speed.
THIS IS JUST RIDICULOUS! 3G IS USELESS FOR ME!

Poor Connections - hardware or software?
Massiveian-
Thanks a ton for doing that. I've been keeping a running log of my speed tests on the LTE and was planning to re-initialize the OG 4G to make a similar comparison. You saved me the effort.
Basically your data is pretty clear that the LTE is running approximately 5X fslower than the old 4G on the same exact network setup.
This in my view brings the problem squarely bacj to the phone.
Do you think its fixable? H/W (antenna etc. ) or a S/W problem?
I'm kind thinking that the device and radio are designed for the supposed LTE network and that it's simply suboptimal running on the 3G network and the only thing that's going top work is emergence of LTE network, but based on the "4G" i'm not going to hold my breath.
I'm seeing that this is a real dealbreaker for a lot of users. I'v had the phone since pre-order so its now probably like 2 weks and basically I can't get alot of use out of it.
I'm dialing *2 for sprint in the am and going back to the evo 4g until this is resolved.
I'm frustrated because I got a galaxy [email protected] and it also had really bad connections, now I thought lte would be the one, but looks like I'm going to wait longer.
Mike
I have ****ty data speeds too. I dont ha r data to back it up but my phone sucks add if I am not on WiFi.

That ping seems long even for the OG EVO getting 1+ MB/s. Is your GPS picking a server close to you?
For all the people with data connection problems, where are you located? There's been talk about 1st stage LTE rollout cities having their towers heavily worked on to push out LTE which I'm assuming which will affect our data connectivity.
I'm in San Francisco and have noticed horrible speeds in pockets of the city, but will be perfectly normal a few blocks over after switching towers. This makes me fairly certain it's a network issue and not phone issue.
Also, I work in San Jose which is a 2nd stage LTE city (weird how they split the Bay Area into 2 regions) and I've never seen data connectivity issues around there.
Damn those speeds suck, I switched my galaxy nexus for this phone cause I ended up getting better speeds, right now is late in Las Vegas so I'm getting almost 2mbps
This is what I got earlier in the morning
And this is my peak hour
If this speeds go lower I'm changing carriers I like this phone so I do want to keep it but I want to have the same speeds
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Although the phone itself is fantastic I really cant recommend it based on the data/network performance... and its really unsettling because the build quality is fantastic and I wanted them to really outshine the competition. I bought a case for it, stuck a screen protector on it, made sure it was all good and ready for the long haul and now I'm thinking of returning it.
Here in Dallas with a 3G speed of 157kbps, you just cant do anything with it. I have to feed off my local wi-fi in order to do anything data related with my phone (thankfully that signal is amazing, 12Mbps).
But now after trying multiple roms, multiple settings, different PRL's I have ran out of options and my 14 days are almost up, I guess the only thing I can do is return it and get my NS4G back until I can test other phones.
It's a ****ing shame, I love the capabilities of this phone, but the speed I'm getting is horrendous.
Here is my speeds from numerous days worth of testing.
My speeds were approximately 1/4 of what I was getting on my OG Evo until yesterday afternoon when I went into settings and manually updated my PRL. Now my speeds are comparable to my OG Evo.

My speeds were also like most of you are reporting, 200k or so. Since having the "software reinstalled and phone re-activated" at the Sprint store this is what I get, same exact place I took prior tests.

Thank you for letting us know. There is a bunch of us ready to jump the gun and return the phone -I do not really want to, but we can't get locked on contract with this going on.-
Can you please provide us with updates on how it works on different locations?
Also, do you have any idea what kind of "reinstall" they did at the store? What if the ones of us who activated the phone by ourselves are the ones having the issue?
Thanks a lot,

All they do is use your MSL TO GET into the phone to provision it.
They did for me as well and did not work. I have also tried dojng this myself with no change
My speeds are so bad I hardly even do anything that requires data unless I'm connected to wifi.
Data seems much faster on the EVO LTE vs my photon and og EVO. Also, the ability to use 3G data while on the phone on the LTE is a HUGE benefit. Wait for the upgrades, speeds will increase for everyone on 3G as well as LTE.
Also, EVERY new phone has the same exact threads and discussions about how oh my god data is so much slower on this new phone -I'm gonna return it!! Well put the same phone on Verizon's PRL and it works just fine for data speeds. Point being, it's not the phone it's the network-WHICH IS BEING UPGRADED. wait for the upgrades or jump to Verizon.
My speeds are way faster than my OG and my 3D. But have only been so on PRL 24003. I know it's not supposed to work that way, but as soon as I change PRLs, my speed drop.
My speeds at home are the same or faster than I was getting on og EVO, however, the signal is worse. I might try roam control and force my phone on vzw network at work, then if sprint doesn't like it they can cancel my plan

Same here in downtown Philly; 3G speeds were abysmal -- when it even connected to a network at all. Between this issue, the issue of WiFi not handing off to 3G (or going to/from roaming -- basically hand-offs were a coin-toss as to whether they'd work), and the random modem-crash reboots, I threw in the towel. The EVO LTE is back at Sprint and I've sadly gone back to my OG EVO. I suspect others will do the same.

5Ghz Wifi stopped connecting

Hi guys -
I'm having a problem with the 5Ghz Wifi on my Verizon Galaxy S4 - it just stopped connecting all of a sudden.
I've now had this problem on 2 Galaxy S4 phones. The first one, it stopped working after 5 days. The second (this one) 16 days as of last night.
(I exchanged the 1st within my 14 day return period).
No changes - no updates - just stopped randomly working on the phone - other items like my Computers and Wifi Bridge work fine with the 5Ghz.
I've read the threads where others have the same issue. Trying to connect, it won't do anything when I click on the name, try connecting and then just go back to saying "Saved, Secured", or say Authentication Error. It connects and works right next to the router, or when it has full signal, but drops if I move away from the Router. I've also tried all the suggestions in the other threads.
To ensure it wasn't the Router, I replaced it the first time around, and still had the same behavior.
What I don't understand, is that the Phone will connect fine to 2.4Ghz networks, but not 5Ghz Wifi networks. It will broadcast
and receive fine on 5Ghz for the Tethering function, so it can't be hardware-related.
I find it hard to believe 2 phones can be defective, but not outside of the realm of possibility.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or know what exactly is causing this, and what to do?
Why not just use the 2.4ghz band? I've used that since day one.
safestrap enabled, Hyperdrive driven
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or know what exactly is causing this, and what to do?
I've had the same problem with both S4's that I have. What I did to fix it was I went into the routers settings.. I changed the 2.5 band to only show G and the 5 band to only allow N.
Then I changed the bandwidth on the 5 to 20/40 instead of just the 20 it was on.
Also I made my phone '' forget'' the low speed band so that it only had the 5.
All routers are different obviously, but you should have those settings I'd assume.
See if any of that helps.
Good luck!

decaturbob,
The 2.4Ghz band here is very crowded.
Mistertac,
Tried, didn't work.
It will also say the Network is out Range 1 out of 2 times, even though I'm sitting in front of my laptop with the 5Ghz connected.
Other phone did the same thing.

If you can connect to it close to the router do so. Download and install wifi analyzer from the play store. See what the quality of the signal is close to the router and as you move away. I haven't been on touch wiz(I'm assuming that's what you're on) in a while. You should also have settings under wifi then advanced. Make sure nothing is weird there.

Did you root your phone yet? Do you have a custom rom installed on it? If you have then you might want to take a look at a file explore to look for your host file. It could be because of that. I had to delete my host file in order for my wifi to connect again. Also want to check proxy settings.
Do you have separate names for the 2.4 and 5ghz networks?
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Thanks for the tip. Yes, customer ROM (Hyperdrive). What "host" file are you referring too? Wifi connects perfectly ever time. It is ONLY the the 5GHz band that will not stay connected.

Thanks. I am pretty familiar with the 5Ghz vs 2.4Ghz limitations. I have the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 Router and all Wifi connections are being made within 50 ft of the router. So I know range is not an issue. My Note 8 connects to the 5GHz band and works perfectly. My S4 connects for a few seconds and then drops. Using Wifi Analyzer (on S4), I see the 5GHz signal for a few seconds and then it disappears for 10 seconds and then comes back. Seems like it is turning on and off continually. As mentioned previously, the two things that really make this strange are:
1) I can connect my S4 to the 2.4GHz band of the same router and it works exactly as it should
2) My Note 8 connects to the 5GHz band every time and works exactly as it should
So it is specifically my S4 that is the problem. I am thinking that something with my Hyperdrive ROM or Wanam, etc. may be causing the issue. OR maybe it is a hardware issue with the device? Either way, I can get by using 2.4 just fine, but wish I could figure out why 5GHz doesn't work.

Yeah, the ROM does include a "band" switcher, but when I select 5GHZ only, it has the exact same symptoms. Only difference is it no longer shows my 2.4 band as a connection option. Like you said, one of those things...haha.

If you don't know what a host file is then nvm. But yeah if it's just the 5ghz and you have the issue on both phone then it's the hardware issue. I advise ( since you have two s4 right? ) you to have one stocked and one custom. Try to connect both, if both still have the same issue then contact the cell phone provider. If the custom have the issue then contact the custom rom creator.

I just checked on my MK2 (stock) phone and it sees the 5 GHz wifi fine. I changed the SSID of the 2.4 Gig network and it remained connected on 5 GHz. My Galaxy Tab 2 lost connectivity due to the renaming, so I know it worked (and that the GS4 still was connected on 5 Gigs). Oh, and the wife's iPad lost connectivity. Oops.
If you install WiFiFoFum you should be able to see both bands.

Tmobile tethering (was working) Galaxy S5 PLEASE HELP

I have a problem guys. I have had the Rom Xtrestolite 1.3.5a on my G900T with baseband BNG4. I have been able to tether my phone for over a year with no restrictions and never throttled on my unlimited plan with 5gb hotspot. I used to always check and my hotspot allotment never used to go up as my rooted phone on this rom had the tethering unblocked. However just this week I got a message that said I have reached 85% of my hotspot limit and that it will be slowed to 128kbps but that my phone will continue at high speed till beginning of my next cycle. I checked my usage and now my tethering plan had used up 7/7gb (I guess my hotspot plan had increased to 7gb over the course of the year, never knew since I had always used over 20gb of tethering unrestricted).
So now I am puzzled, did tmobile find a way to meter my tethering again even though I am on a rooted phone on a rom that had unrestricted tethering? Note that I still can tether unlimited but they have slowed it to 128kpbs... the funny thing is I can speed test on speedtest.com on my tether and it will show it at 25mpbs...but if I go on some websites its clearly 128kpbs as I tried a speed test html5 and it confirmed that it was 128kpbs...so it seems some websites like speedtest...and youtube still go fast, but most other streaming sites go slow on tether, so it is obviously being throttled. My question is, has tmobile implemented a new way to meter which made my 1 year old rom not be able to keep making unrestrictive? And if so does anyone know which newer rom is unrestricted and completely uses only my phone's internet not Hotspot Data allotment?

The same issue occurred for me beginning last night. I received the same messages. In the past, even if the hopspot limit was reached somehow, traffic originating from a mobile device User Agent would still pass through without hinderance (I.e. I could still use other Android devices, my laptop with the proper UA, and Chromecast). Now, even they are slowed. SpeedTest (by Oogle) does work on all devices, as does Netflix. I'm not sure if there are any other services that are unaffected.
It seems that T-Mobile may be using a new method to discern traffic originating from the original phone versus any peripheral devices, perhaps a form of packet sniffing.
For informational purposes, my primary device for hotspotting is the T-Mobile Note 3 SM-N900T, devices affected by tethering include T-Mobile Note 2 T889, T-Mobile Galaxy S3 T999, and Chromecast
Use a user agent switcher and a vpn and i think your traffic will be hidden enough, I just switched my Tmo S5 to Att so i cant test it anymore tho
for the user agent switcher you can choose android for mobile or Opera for desktop, both always worked for me, gl guys
oh and for the vpn I use PIA and switch to TCP instead of udp, use it on the dekstop you're tethering on not the phone

Is that a free vpn service or would I have to pay? Also I am not too familiar with user agent switcher, is that a plugin on opera in the desktop? What about for like my Xbox etc. I am not sure how Tmobile is metering this data now, anyone have a rom that doesn't touch their tethering limit. It is just weird how speedtest, youtube, and netflix still run at fast LTE even after you pass the tethering limit but othe regular sites or streaming sites will be at 128kpbs . Not sure how tmobile started recording my tethering data on my rooted phone, it used to never use tether data.

What user agent did you use? I am not sure, I just used the native tethering toggle since it was unresticted because of the rom I have, but now it seems to be counting my tether limit again.

On PC, I used the User Agents iPad, iPhone, Nexus 5 and 9, Mac OS Safari. These have always had no issue in the past with data/tethering limits. My Android devices had no issues at all in the past. My prior ROMs have all allowed native tethering as well so this is a new change.
I have not found any UA change that has worked on mobile devices or PC. However, on Android, there are some white-listed apps that seem to be not affected:
Facebook
Pandora
Netflix (the initial selection menu is limited in speed, but no limit once video content starts loading)
Digitally Imported Radio
RadioTunes
Perhaps they are more unaffected apps (and I will update them as I find them). In any case, right now this seems to be stemming from a server-side change on T-Mobile's part.

Yeah, I have found that any music streaming sites that are under their unlimited streaming are not affected. Youtube, Netflix, and those you listed. However if I want to use playbox, moviebox, popcorntime, those are limited down to 128kpbs. Where can I find these user agents for pc/mac?
Yes, T-Mobile found away to slow down hotspot. My unlimited data on phone is fast and un-effected, but everything else is slow that's connected to hotspot. VPN is very limited. YouTube works with VPN, but that's about it for me.
Just like you said above, speedtest shows fast connection, but in reality it's slow. User agents don't work and even other android devices are slowed down.
Update: Solved change APN protocol to IPV6.

To be honest I have always had my cable service. I have 100mbps last place I lived so I hardly would tether. But I do travel a lot and stay for a month or two. Getting a cable or dsl provider for 15-50 days at a time is not really an option...you have to order, get a guy to come out and install or install yourself, then you leave quickly and have to return equipment etc. Also I recently moved from California to Missouri, the apartment I am short leasing does not offer Cable internet, they have only centurylink which sucks at 10mbps and 2mpbs upload. Yeah if you are lucky you get 6 or 7. So last month I chose to tether. I usually never used to use my tether allotment cause I have a rooted phone. I have gone past 20gb on tethering before. But this one time I got throttled for the first time when I hit the 7bg tether limit. Not sure how they are doing this since before it made the tether use the phone internet not the tether limit. They must have come up with a new way to track. Now I am not saying you should use your phone to replace your cable isp. But there are times like mine when you have no options for a month or two and a company should really not do what they are doing unless you obviously doing it for long periods of times throughout the year. They are talking about 2tb of data some users...come on. I have tethered and streamed a lot and never gone more than 50gb. I am in the process of closing on a house so this is why I didn't want to get tied to a centurylink contract for ****ty 10mbps for 12 months...their no contract prices are like 85 a month with the modem/router..come on...why do that when I have my phone that can tether at 30mpbs for just 1-2 months while I get settled in my new house and I can get a cable ISP again.... It is annoying that unlimited data only pertains to the phone....its data you buy it and doesn't matter how you use it. I understand the bandwidth situation, if its someone who is doing it constantly every month okay then...but I never used my tether more than 2 months of the year in total days. So say I didn't tether from January- August (7 free gb each month of tether... thats 56gb of data I didn't use those months) So this month I used 20 gb and got throttled..come on... Its unlimited (which obviously shouldn't be 2tb) but at least the one or two times you do it, shouldn't be a deciding factor.

I understand there are two sides to every story, but watching TV and playing video games to the tune of gigs of data is beyond my comprehension. The thought has never crossed my mind. Me, I've always done without if there was no public WiFi available. I'm not addicted to gaming so that is a non issue. I guess it comes down to what one see's as being morally the right thing to do.

I understand there are two sides to every story, but watching TV and playing video games to the tune of gigs of data is beyond my comprehension. The thought has never crossed my mind. I agree with you partially, I am not a big gamer, but I watch Tv and stream movies. Like I said there are certain situations when I cannot have cable or internet so I use my tether, and for them to throttle me despite me having 5 lines with them over 15 months now all those lines don't use more than 5gb despite each being unlimited except mine I use around 15gb on phone. And occassionally when I cannot have home internet where I am I will tether and go over 20gb and then I got throttled now cause they changed their monitoring service..that's b.s I am paying them 5 lines unlimited which aren't even using that much data...
T-mobile claimed they found a way to detect those who was able to circumvent the tethering restrictions and has been monitoring them for a while.

Well, it is their network. Like any business they know who is doing what on it. I figure they turned a blind eye until it became a problem for them. Like everything else there are a few that ruin things for everyone. There are people that respect nothing or no one.

I totally agree if its people tethering over 100gb thats an issue I accept. But like if you are a user who tethers on occasions, like when on vacation or an extended trip like me for example for 20-40 gb tether and then you get throttled that sucks big time...
