Hi guys, recently this has been bugging me a lot. No matter which launcher I use (Nova, Action, Trebuchet, Themer), or ROM (Scrubber, Resurrection, crDroid) I use, many apps look kind of fuzzy in app drawer, but they look crispy on home screen. Any idea why?? It makes the great screen on XZU look pixelated, kind of..
Thanks in advance!
That depends on:
- Icon resolution
- Icon size set in options
- DPI
If the icons are low-res and you increase their size from the settings, the only thing you're doing is stretching the icons, making them blurry if they're stretched beyond their resolution.
DPI can also mess things up, but it's normally low-res icons that are to blame. I also believe that Nova has some issues with blurry icons on some ROMs/devices. I'm also experiencing a couple of blurry icons, while others are not. I installed Action Launcher 3 again yesterday, and the icons were somewhat sharper there. Icons are still the sharpest looking with the stock launcher though.
I don't have a solution for you. This is simply something that people, including me, experience, and I'm not sure how to solve it. What I can tell you is that it's not a ROM issue, so you can stop flashing ROMs to trynsolving the issue.
Edit: Make a backup of your homescreen setup, uninstall and install Nova again. That should fix it. If you change the DPI again, uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that method did not work. Icons in dock look fuzzy and app drawer ones too. I even tried not restoring my layout backup but still it was blurry when I increased the icon size to "normal". Without increasing icons look tiny. I have my dpi at 340. I tried 360 and 380 too and they were all fuzzy. When I increase my icons in nova I set it to 130-140 depending on the dpi.
Maybe it's just a bug in Nova??? But in Action launcher icons were overly big and they were even more blurry. On the other hand on Google now launcher, even when icons were huge, they were crisp. Ahh..

Yup, it is a Nova issue, and there are a few "fixes" out there that doesn't seem to work for everyone. This has been an issue for a long time though, so I'm not sure if it'll ever get fixed. I'm currently using a very high DPI of 480, since it's easy to use the device one handed then, and the icons look... well, some look very sharp, while some others don't. In fact, I see now that the ClickUI icons are the ones that are fuzzy, while the icons from Moonshine and the stock icons are sharp, so it could, in my case, just be some icon pack issue.
Moonshine is XXX-HDPI or 192x192, but I can't find ClickUI's resolution, but I think that maybe it's 144x144, so naturally it won't scale as well as higher res icons when I make them bigger, and it ends up making them fuzzy.
Download some 192x192 icon packs (just search for "192x192 icons" or something on the Play Store), apply them and see if they're fuzzy. If they're not, problem solved. If they are, then I have no idea anymore :silly:
EDIT: Just installed Elun, which is 192x192, and they're all sharp.

Thanks. Actually, I just tried dpi of 480, and it seems to make icons sharper. Especially in Themer, icons look so much better, where with lower dpi, icons looked pixelated and ugly. Thanks a lot. You've been helpful.

I'm not sure what triggers it, but my wallpaper will be full screen, then all of a sudden it'll just be a square in the middle, as in the sides get cut off, if I rotate it, it usually goes back to normal once it's horizontal again, but it randomly does this and it's driving me so crazy. It's rooted and I'm running Starburst... I've been searching for posts about this but I can't find anything, helpppp. SO annoying!
It doesn't seem to matter what launcher I'm using either.
Same problem for me... Any idea for fixing it ?
To be honest getting wallpaper set on this thing is way harder than it should be, I still haven't worked out a good way to do it. It just ends up cropped, or fugly, or both.
Way harder than it needs to be.
I can get a nice looking wallpaper cropped and everything, but when I'm doing things it randomly gets cut off and looks like crap.

Yeah I just saw the same thing happen.
So how does everyone get wallpaper to show up without it being cropped? Do you need to download WP larger than 1280x800 so that it can be cropped down to that, or is there an app that'll do it? I've tried several but none seem to work.
I have a thread here discussing how you correctly size a wallpaper to fit your tablet.
So far I've worked out how to do it for ADW Launcher, which selects wallpapers the same way it does for Android phones but I need to look a bit more into TouchWiz.
Other than that there are a number of apps that offer you more control over your wallpapers.Firstly there's MultiPicture Live Wallpaper which allows you to set different images on each page of your homescreen.
Secondly there's Wallpaper for Tablets which lets you set a different landscape and portrait wallpaper and will correctly display a 1280x800 image without cropping.
Last, there's Wallpaper Wizardrii but the controls are really poor and it doesn't offer you anything that one or other of the first two apps I linked-to can't do.
Been running the 2.1 alpha and I'm quite happy with it. So thanks to the dev's for the awesome work.
But my fat fingers have trouble using the tiny softbuttons for the home, back etc keys.
Can the size of these buttons be increased? It doesn't seem that ADW themes affect the soft keys at all and I cant find any setting for there size.
I realize alot of people dont want big buttons taking up screen space but I have grown to appreciate the nice big Webos style buttons.
thanks!

Agreed.
I'd also like to see an option to move around to one of the other three sides. Like I'd like to have it positioned on the top rather than bottom.

U can move your status bar(inclusing soft button) to the top using adw ex

There is an option in the tablet tweaks that have where you can move it to the top.

Do you know if ADW EX can also modify the size?
All I've found so far is resizing of the launcher dock, and when I've tried a few setting it did not affect the soft buttons.
I do see in the setting under cyanogenmod settings you can move the soft buttons to the top.

I have install ADW ex, the soft button and dock are show abnormal !
Anyone got same problem?
The status bar isn't part of a launcher; it's part of the OS/UI. As someone above mentioned, the bottom status bar is actually part of a set of tablet-oriented UI changes called Tablet Tweaks that were implemented in particular for the Nook Color, though obviously we're reaping the benefits now on the TouchPad as well! Perhaps the confusion about ADW comes from the fact that ADW's menu provides quick access to system settings as well as ADW settings?
Anyway, you can move the entire status bar back to the top of the screen in the Settings>CynanogenMod settings>Tablet tweaks screen. Just uncheck "Bottom status bar" and it'll be on the top. If you'd prefer the buttons on the right side, uncheck "Soft-buttons left". You can also select exactly which set of soft buttons you want.
There are two ways to change the size of the buttons: 1) I believe different CM7 themes can provide different size images; 2) You can change the LCD density to something higher than 160 (the default for the TouchPad's screen). The latter will scale everything, though, and might affect the usability of some apps, so be careful!
If you want to change the size of the buttons, you will need to choose a theme that works with the CM7 Theme Chooser.
I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311339
joenathane has a couple good ones.
I installed a couple of his nook themes.
They are very nice on the touchpad....but the softbutton is still the same size.
I'll have to wait for a theme...but at least I know what to look for.

They are definitely not the same size at all.

Worked like a charm. +1 Thanks!
I use LCD Resolution (free in the Market) and change the value from 160 to 200 (the max on the TP). Don't forget to check the "Set on Boot" option. This actually makes everything bigger by 25% (noticable but not to terribly huge).
I love it.
An other option is to use button savior, it's an additional softkey toolbar with bigger buttons. A free version is available here on xda. Look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865525

the max lcd density is 280. you can manually edit or use any editor for build.prop. I use rom toolbox myself. but you can find it within build.prop as ro.sf.lcd_density. I've used it at 240 for hdpi themes. if the hdpi theme doesn't seem to fit right then just adjust the lcd density. you can use adw launcher pro to reduce the overall size of the icons.
To begin with, I'm far from new to Android, just new to Samsung and the Note.
Also - I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I haven't run across a solution yet. I can take and image I want to use as a wallpaper and, on the lock screen and the Touch whiz home screen and it looks exactly like I want it to. But, since I'm one of those folks who dislikes the fact that I can't swap out apps on the TW launcher bar, I slap my own launcher on the Note to make it mine again. Unfortunately, then comes the annoying part.......
Whatever photo I put up as wallpaper looses resolution and seems to explode in size so that only about 1/4 of the original wallpaper/ photo is visible and what's left is very blurry. I know this isn't limited to just one launcher - I've tried ADW, Launcher Pro, Nemus, Go Launcher, Holo, and a few more I can't remember the names of right now. And they all give me the same problem.
So far I've changed the format of the wallpaper photo to .png or .jpeg and back again, tweaked the size and resolution of the picture, dug through XDA and a few other forums fort wisdom, and used harsh language on my Note - all to no avail. So, can anyone tell me what I'm missing or if there's any hope for me at all? I'm rooted stock 2.3.6 and would prefer, for various reasons, to stay that way for now. But, at this point I'm willing to consider options if all else fails since I'm getting quite annoyed by this.
Thanks for any help/ insight!
Use the Quickpic app to set the wallpaper.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

I'm curious, I've installed Nova launcher on my tablets and phone and love it but there's one issue I can't seem to find anything about.
I set my launch screen to have say 7wide*5high icons then this will look good in landscape but when rotating to portrait the amount of icons is rotated also so it's at 7 wide and 5 high even though the aspect ratio has flipped. I don't get why launchers don't just rotate the icons on the spot so that it looks good in one rotation and not the other.
Does anyone know of a way of fixing this in nova or if there is any other app out there that will sort this?

Absolutely agree, keep the exact same layout, just rotate the icon so its legible.
Hi @ThemerSupport
The new app drawer is much nicer and I see that you have now made the home screen widgets stay in place when entering the app drawer instead of them all moving to the Center.
One Chang I would like to see and that the ability to Chang the color of the tabs bar in the app drawer.
Thanks

I can't use Themer yet because I use custom DPI on my SGS3, When I use stock DPI everything is normal, but when I change it everything is a mess, and yes I know that I can work my way around, making the widgets and texts bigger and moving them around, but it would be wonderful if there was a scaling future depending on the resolution and the DPI.

The problem lies in when Themer is installed on your phone, it looks at the device name and sets the theme sizes accordingly. Now when custom DPI settings are added, it gets confused. That doesn't it custom DPI support won't be implemented, it'll just take some time

Wouldn't be better if instead of the device name, the app was looking for the DPI? That way it wouldn't matter what the device is, the would work anyway.
