I spent the whole weekend working on this mod. I am very happy that I managed
On top of that, .9.png files s*uck.
And only right now I read the post by MMouse where says that the actual resolution is 864x555. It drove me crazy, as the version of Android studio did not match reality when installed in the HeadUnit...
Hope you like.
It was a big effort for me... as it was the first real mod.
Sooo here it is.
I upload two files for each skin, the regular one and one with prefix OEM.
Regular file --> You can install it as any regular app (it is for you to try whether you like it
OEM --> This one has to replace MTCRadio.apk in /system/app
List of skins:
MTCRadio_RallySkin.apk --> Rally app you can see in the thumbnails.
MTCRadio_RallySkin-Red.apk --> Rally skin with red background
MTCRadio_RallySkin_NameCounter.apk --> Rally skin with name of stations on the counter instead of frequency
MTCRadio_RallySkin_NameCounter-Red.apk --> Same as above but red background
How to replace original MTCRadio
You will need adb wifi
1- copy MTCRadiEM_RallySkin.apk to /sdcard/
Code:
adb push MTCRadio_OEM_RallySkin.apk /sdcard/MTCRadio_OEM_RallySkin.apk
2- mount /system as rw
Code:
adb shell
mount -ro remount,rw /system
3- Force stop Radio app
Code:
Go to Setup--> apps, All apps, tap Radio and Force Stop
4- copy MTCRadiEM_RallySkin.apk to /system/app
Code:
cp /sdcard/MTCRadio_OEM_RallySkin.apk /system/app/MTCRadio.apk [COLOR="Blue"]Note the name is MTCRadio.apk[/COLOR]
5- remount /system as ro
Code:
mount -ro remount,ro /system
6- reboot the unit
Hope it helped.
I have warned you!
I am ready with my slightly modding
I got two Variants for you.
An Original Style with expanded space for title names
and a List-Style with LRC-View replaced by integrated playlist
Furthermore both Variants include corrected german translations btw
See Attachments!
Hint for devs: I used the one_click_tools to sign the apk instead of my own vertificate to allow modding with easy reinstalling for everyone here
To install:
take a root explorer and delete /system/app/MTCMusic.apk - BACK IT UP TO A SAFE PLACE!
Reboot device (Music App will be gone)
install my version as usual (e.g. with ApkInstaller)
Enjoy
LAST UPDATE: 2014-06-13
MTCRadio 4.2.2 Modding
I have modded MTCRadio 4.2.2.
Bolding and coloring the RDS station name.
Smaller frequency number.
Appear radiotext information.
In root mod delete mtcradio.apk. Klikk to MTCRadio_MODKT_1.apk and after start installing process.
The Radio hard button of the HU works.
I don't try this app on the 4.4.4. Please test it!

How easy would it be to put a normal visual spectrum in the radio app? Maybe even with a RGB option to colorize the interface instead of being locked into red / blue etc? Awhile back I designed what I would love for the radio app to look like and this is what I came up with:

I have made this theme and I think its not bad.
Feel free to try it out !
P.S. it only works correctly on Android 1.6 E10i/E15i firmware
Instructions :
1. Root is a must!
2. adb push framework-res.apk /sdcard/fr-black.apk
3. adb shell
4. su
5. mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
6. busybox cp /sdcard/fr-black.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
7. chmod 755 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
8. reboot your X10 mini
apps.zip has standard apps with HTC icons, extract them in /system/app/
If your phone gets stuck on booting after playing with framework or some other stuff, I've found a way to repair it without reflash :
restart phone, connect it to usb
in adb shell run rootshell command again to gain root (wise to keep it after rooting), the "su" won't work cause it depends on gfx libs and they are not started yet..
mount sdcard with this command : mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard
and put your backed files where they belong.
Good luck!
27/10/10 new version of my black theme for X8 (E15i) released.
25/09/10 Updated framework-res, some small details.
27/09/10 Added colourful theme, status icons are not b/w any more!
29/09/10 "Black" theme updated, now its more or less final!
07/10/10 Uploaded somewhat updated framework, not sure if its better or worse, so keeping the old one too. newframe.rar
P.S. don't forget to backup anything important to you, Sony Backup tool works pretty well btw.

Will it replace the default Blue theme or install as separate theme ?
Will it occupy additional Phone memory or replace Blue theme without consuming additional mem.
Lastly a screenshot please.

It replaces it, but be careful. It's best to back up the default framework-res.apk just in case.

Thanks! I was getting really tired of the glaring blue. Much appreciated!

The last step is optional and by "standard apps" you mean to say the default apps of X10 mini which have been modded with HTC icon. Isn't it?
BTW I have installed your theme. I find a small problem. In some screens a whitish font is displayed on whitish background making it difficult to read. Say, when I pull down the "Notification" screen the "Clear" button on top right is displayed with whitish font on whitish background. Is it a problem in my phone (should not be I think) or its general. If its general - can it be made more readable by darkening the font? I am talking about your first version. Meantime, it seems you have uploaded another modified version in which I don't know if you have taken care of this.
Anyway, yours is a very good attempt to change the theme. Thanks for your effort we have a option to go for a second theme.
Lastly, is there a way to keep multiple themes installed and select one as and when mood changes?
Installed it myself, looks awesome, just a few issues:
- A lot of buttons have dark backgrounds and dark blue text which is hard to read, like the Market Install, Open, etc buttons.
- The clear button is white text on a light grey background like the person above said, which is also hard to read.
- Tabs on apps look odd, for example the Dialer app has white icons on the light grey BG for the inactive tabs. Other apps like Nimbuzz have white inactive icons and black active icons, making both hard to see.
Great work though, I'm glad to be rid of that nasty blue ^^
What about RAM consumptions. It seems that this custom Black theme is consuming a bit more RAM than the default blue. ANy opinion on this.
First and foremost, before installing this ZIP through Tenfar's recovery, you MUST have GingerBlur v4 already installed!

Nice work man!! This looks great!!
Thanks! I JUST finished updating the OP with install instructions and I also attached a RAR file with the dock/icons to use if you wanted to make LauncherPro look just like it does in the screenshots.
Also, while I like red and/or blue themes, my wife likes purple so I'll probably be working on a GrapeBlur theme next.
If anyone tries pushing these files to a release other than 4.1.57 (such as Adeo or Gingerblur based on 4.1.52) I would be interested to know the results!
Looks great sir, thanks for the work.
Looks great man, thanks for putting this together. One question though, is it posible to make a blue theme as I love blue!

I had one error, I think it was on PhotoEditor.apk and PhotoEditor.odex. I've seen or used a built-in photo editor so I just removed those then restarted the deodex process for apps and it completed successfully.
just tried deodexing and yes, getting the same errors from the two apks as well. Ok thanks for the heads up will try again
Successfully applied the theme!
Found 1 bug. The clock in notification bar is black in mine instead of white. Any idea why?
This might be a nobrainer but, if I change the icon files inside the apk and then push it to my phone will it still work? In this way will I be able to make my own 4.1.57 themes?
hey.. i am sorry to ask this how am i suppose to install the grapeblur and the launcherpro.. i have no idea .. i am soo sorry to ask such a dum question.. but this is my first time with an android

You added a few icons to the /drawable-hdpi directory. Do you actually use them via the xml files, or are they just remains of whatever framework-res.apk you used?

yes
just get framework-res.apk, back it up, open it with winrar.
drag and drop the files, of the same name, that you would like to replace into the open winrar window. choose normal and 'add and replace', then close the window to save. replace the one in system/framework with your modified version.
Be sure to set the priviledges correctly after you copy into system/framework.
They should match the original, full read and user write.
Thats how I made this.
Edit: Every time I replace the framework-res.apk I lose my google, twitter, and facebook accounts. Anyone know why, all I'm doing is replacing images.

When you long press on any of the icons in the dockbar of LauncherPro you should see an option to change the icon. You need to have the icons/dock I attached saved to your sdcard ahead of time so you can choose "custom" for the icon and select the graphic you want to use.
For the dock you go to Menu -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Dock Background
* Pretty sure that's correct, but my phone is in on the charger in my bedroom where my wife is sleeping so I don't want to accidentally wake her up.
I know I can change between the touchpad between Gesture and Cursor mode, but I would like to change the icon which is used when in Mouse Cursor mode, as wel las when I am using my BT mouse.
At present it is a quite dark cursor icon and is small. I find that I am forever losing the mouse on the screen, and given the overall darkness of ICS it can be hard to spot. I would much prefer a white pointer icon. I have searched the filesystem for pointer, cursor and mouse but have not found any image which I might replace.
Anyone any idea?
Thanks!

That's right, probably just a .png in the framework.
I've been thinking of trying to find and change it, it is ridiculous to have a black pointer with a blue outline when ICS is all black and blue and apps are trying to replicate that style. I lose my cursor way too often.
I too would like an option to change the cursor.
Its just a regular image in the framework-res.apk, its not even a .9.png so practically find a cursose image you like then convert it to the same resolution then replace the image in the framework-res.apk/res/drawable-mdpi/ and you should be set.

Hi, Thanks for that. I opened up the framework-res.apk on my PC and simply edited the graphic res/drawable-mdpi/pointer_arrow.png changing the black bit to white and it worked (after a reboot of course)!
MUCH better!
I am sure someone will make a nicer one but this will do me. At least I wont lose the pointer now.

Very cool, thanks a bunch!
Here are the steps I took for anyone reading this in the future.
1. I copied framework-res.apk over to my desktop using Android Commander.
2. Opened the .apk with WinRAR
3. Changed the old pointer to pointer_arrow.old and pasted in the new pointer_arrow.png provided by barryflanagan.
4. Copied the modified framework-res.apk to my sdcard.
5. On the tablet opened Root Explorer and copied the modified framework-res.apk and pasted it over the stock one.
6. Reboot
An absolute must!
I'll be doing this when I'm rooted or running a custom rom, tyvm

That's why we're not deleting the image. Just changing it to pointer_arrow.old.
wish the android just provided such option to easily change the cursor just like the windows does
I was unable to change the "framework-res.apk" with Android running. I made this script to update the file from CWM recovery.
Please remember... backup the original file first and... nandroid!
After updating my Xperia Pro to ICS, I was happy I could finally use my bluetooth mouse/touchpad combo but, the color of the pointer wasn't a smart choice on Google's part...
So, I found this thread, used the zip in the above post and thought "this needs more colors"
I made some white pointers in several colors for everyone to use
Just rename the pointer you want to use to "pointer_arrow.png" and replace the pointer included in the APK within the above poster's ZIP. Apply the update with CWM and you'll have a new nice mouse pointer!

I saw a post earlier on G+ about the G2 and Roboto. Basically you can only use normal and bold; italic, bold italic, Roboto Light, Roboto Thin, and Roboto Condensed don't work. The weight also appears to be off.
I did some looking around and all the fonts are present on the system. I made a quick test app to compare the fonts on the G2 and Galaxy Nexus and set to figure out how to fix it.
It's pretty simple, just copy the system_fonts.xml file in the zip to \system\etc. You'll probably want to backup and/or rename the existing file first and give it the same file permissions. You'll need root and a file explorer that can mount system. Reboot and you should be able to see the changes.
I copied the file over to internal storage and used Total Commander to copy the xml file after renaming the original file.
The weight is still wrong but at least if the developer wanted to use Roboto and italics, you'll now be able to see italics.
If rooted, u can use jrummys font app, and install any font the app has, it replaces the roboto font in stock font settings....
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium HD app
@noll5326, thanks for sharing. I'm a fan of the 4.2 bold font hours/light font minutes clock and your tweak fixed this issue on my G2.
sent from my GN2 / GS4
If you want to fix the weight issues, you can download Roboto directly from Google. Just click "Download Roboto" and extract the zip, then copy to your phone. In adb you can do this:
Assuming you put the roboto files at /sdcard/roboto
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/roboto/*.ttf /system/fonts
This will overwrite the ones from the stock rom, so if you're concerned about that, you can make a backup first:
Code:
mkdir /sdcard/roboto-stock
cp /system/fonts/Roboto* /sdcard/roboto-stock
After that and using your modded system_fonts.xml, I have nice proper typography in the Play Store and other Holo apps.
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this, this was (oddly?) one of my bigger concerns in researching this phone. Will give it a try when I get it.

mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/roboto/*.ttf /system/fonts
This will overwrite the ones from the stock rom, so if you're concerned about that, you can make a backup first:
Code:
mkdir /sdcard/roboto-stock
cp /system/fonts/Roboto* /sdcard/roboto-stock
After that and using your modded system_fonts.xml, I have nice proper typography in the Play Store and other Holo apps.
Thanks!

Thanks for this guys, much appreciated. I combined both of these procedures and now have all stock android roboto system fonts that render perfectly everywhere, most notably in the play store. FYI: I ended up just using root explorer to move both the xml file as well as all of the stock font files to the proper directories, changed permissions and rebooted. Good as gold :good:
Followed the instructions and now everything looks as it's supposed to!
DashClock now looks great.
Much appreciated indeed !! Thanks vm.
can someone make a zip
thanks in advance
Um... is pasting a couple of files really that big of a problem?
I reckon it can be made, yes... I might just give it a go.
EDIT: okay, here it is.
NOTE: I have not tested this and I don't know whether it works properly! I am not responsible if you mess up your system or your phone. Do a nandroid backup first!

Thanks, this works great?

didn't work for me really want this to work
Do it manually, then.
I've tried it manually and it just screws up certain screens. On the password entry when making a purchase in Play Store, you only see a corner of a huge letter where it tells you to enter your password and you can't see what you're typing at all. The Tasker app is really affected, with the preferences window being a complete disaster; the fonts are massive and spread out like crazy even though my phone is set to the smallest font size. There are several other places here and there where it really messes up too.
When it works, it looks great. But for the odd screen that it screws up, it's just not worth it. I'm glad I backed up the stock files first.
Yes, I put the xml file in /system/etc/ and downloaded the fonts from Google and put them in /system/fonts/. I changed all the file permissions. I rebooted and could see the font changes, but in some places the font was just way too large and the spacing between lines was huge. Perhaps the modified xml file still needs more tweaking.

can confirm all that was said above. there are small graphical glitches here and there too, like in gmail upon selection half of the bar up top gets colored blue, etc.
edit: just restored the backup and noticed gmail still does it, perhaps it's not font related and i just haven't noticed that before but it's definitely shouldn't be there.

apparently other phones (like HTC One) suffer from this bug too. does anybody know what causes this?
Try switching to another font and then back to Roboto. I had to do that to make it fully operational. But yeah, in a few places there are minor glitches and inconsistencies.
Anyone using this mod experiencing soft reboots?
No reboots... Worked flawlessly for me

after playing around with different fonts i think i found a combination that works perfectly on our phones:
- download "stock Roboto fonts from the 4.3 base ROM" from here. strangely enough, i think those are stock HTC One fonts.
(original thread it was pulled from where you can find tons of fonts, mind you most of them wouldn't work correctly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45437057
the easiest way to check if the font is "working" properly is going to the Call logs screen and check the date stamp as it appears broken with some. thanks alex72 for the thread tip!)
- use "system_fonts.xml" from this thread
and done. light, condensed, bold, italic, everything seems to be working and without the issues in the usual places.
Fixing font without rooting
The above method worked perfectly. I did not want to actually root my phone and trip any root checkers, so I accomplished everything via a temporary root adb shell (IOroot ftw!).
The following was done on a stock AT&T D800 with OTA (D80010o).
Make sure to switch to another font in Display settings before attempting this.
Get root adb access. IOroot should be able to help you out with that. Make sure to end the batch script at the point it warns you, so as not to push SU and trip anything.
Make backups.
Code:
adb pull /system/etc/system_fonts.xml
adb pull /system/fonts
Move these someplace safe, just in case.
Unzip RobotoFont_G2.zip to directory with adb (repackaged using xml from first post, and Roboto font from HTC One 4.3 base ROM - mannequin's post)
Push new files
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb push system_fonts.xml /system/etc/system_fonts.xml
adb push ./fonts /system/fonts
Fix permissions and reboot
Code:
adb shell
cd /system/etc
chmod 644 system_fonts.xml
cd ..
cd fonts
chmod 644 *
exit
adb reboot
