Over past few years i'm expecting many issues with my android phones ... over time they became laggy and completely useless without our endless system modifications.
What i'm trying to tell is simple and easy ... fones gets older and dies no matter what. Why is that? At this moment my excellent Xcover 2 (phone for hard works) is experiencing terrible battery burn. Its rooted and always was running on stock setup, with link2sd. Over past few weeks android KERNEL started to drain whole battery. Over day he uses average 36-64% battery capacity. I have tried everything uninstalling all my apps, working on old gaaps. Also installed GSam monitor and other similar monitors. Over all my battery condition is perfect ... but kernel itselfs can easily kill phone overnight.
I know that maybe reflashing new rom could fix the problem but its same as windows ... you can't fix it? restart ... still nothing? restart again and then reinstall.
Its boring and terribly annoying. I won't give up.
Today i had idea to reflash only kernel form my present working stock rom.
So i extracted tar.md5 get the boot.img and converted it into tar (trollfactory .bat) then i flashed it using odin and ... it got stuck at checking writing Nand.
Of course this bricked my phone ... but i restored it. Can't do it using adb because using adb bootloader doesn't work, also my devices can't run in fastboot mode.
Situation is still the same ... what should i do ...
-$ Please don't move this thread to xcover section ... nobody will notice it there ... and i strongly believe that applies to every device (since my new s5 still have no issues lol)
and there's still no solution on that.

Hello XDA gurus
I am trying to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy II (Belgium)
from (gingerbread)
stock-rom : GT-I9100_XEN_I9100XWKK2_I9100XENKJ1_I9100XXKI4
cf-root : CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5
to (ics)
stock-rom : GT-I9100_XEN_I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3
cf-root : CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5
I use Mobile ODIN Pro (also tried CWM5) with pre-root option and
flash goes well. Andriod got upgraded, applications adjested and I
correctly end up with rooted ICS (and no CWM5):
Model number
GT-I9100
Android version
4.0.3
Baseband version
I9100XXLPS
Kernel version
3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 [email protected] #3
But the system is not running well at all, in fact, -whatever-
application I try, after some time (sometimes seconds, sometimes
minutes) the system abrubtly falls back to the Samsung splash
animation ending up in showing the "Swipe screen to unlock"
again. This goes on forever, that is: no application works without
problems.
With some patience and some luck I managed to install cf-root (I
think using Mobile ODIN Pro) and reverted back to my gingerbread
latest backup (using v5.4 CWM5), which has been running well for
several months now.
Then I retried the upgrade (using v5.0 CWM5). Same behaviour: no
activity runs without suddenly falling back to Samsung splash
animation. In fact, perhaps nothing is wrong with the apps, and the
problem is with the app launcher itself? For example if I choose the
ADW Launcher instead of the TwLauncher, I seem to have a slightly more
stable system (and I managed to install cf-root again).
Questions:
* Does this kind of Samsung Galaxy II gingerbread-ICS upgrade issues
ring a bell?
* Am I missing some obvious step to correctly perform the upgrade?
Thanks for any hint.
The easiest would be to download the desired firmware for use with Odin (not mobile) or Heimdall and flash it like this. After that do a factory reset in the recovery. Mobile Odin cannot flash bootloaders for example.
Thanks a lot TheSniperFan
Is CWM not able to flash bootloader either?
I have no windows computer (only linux) so I have no Odin (I could perhaps
find a friend who does have a windows computer).
I can use 'adb' from linux, would that allow to flash bootloader ?
And, is the problem really the missing (or wrong) bootloader?
also in the ROM I see :
boot.bin
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zImage
is Sbl.bin the bootloader?
Have a nice day
No only Odin and Heimdall can.
You only have l Linux? No problem, I do all my Android stuff with Fedora. ;-)
You want the Heimdall suite. It's multi platform.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
cool!
I did not know about Heimdal ...
just compiled it for my 64bit gentoo, let's see how that goes...
Hi all,
Not sure how but after almost 24h of looping into samsung splash my device is running fine now. Keep fingers crossed that next reboot will take less time to finish...
The first boot takes longer. After that it should be fine.
Btw, you should ask in the device specific forum, if it's a device specific problem though. You have much better chances to get help there. I only found this thread because I was bored. ;-)
being bored is a luxury for you and a blessing for me and others
I appreciate!
24h seems long for a 1st 'slow' boot
In fact, I rebooted and the 'samsung animation fallback' issue is going on for another new 6h or so.
I have patience and do not complain since I experiment to begin with.
I also know it will eventually be OK ... maybe today maby tomorrow
as a conclusion I guess something must be fishy with my specific setup
I could (as I did) wipe cache and data again but for now I just hope system will settle into usable state soon
btw: I do not know if I can post to device specific areas yet ... for now I am gaining points with (hopefully) relevant post attempts ...
You've meant 24 hours of continuous reboots?
That's really much longer than it should EVER take.
I'm wondering what could be the cause of this.
Besides that you can post in the device specific forum right away. You cannot post links in the beginning though.
I recommend you to see if this issue is still present now. If yes, I could guide you through some steps to determine if it's a wrong firmware or a broken device. Let's hope that it isn't the latter.

You can post in the device forums, just not development forums, but since you're asking a question it should go in the Q&A anyway. You may get more help in the device specific area of the site.
Thanks all for the kind help
The reboot sequence is looping but not into -reboots-, what happens is that any running app abrubtly halts (usually in a few seconds) and the samsung aminated splash shows and brings me back to 'slide to unlock'. In practice I cannot finish any task.
All this might relate to heat. if I turn off device at night and next day (today) try booting again, still the issue is there but it stops eventually (say after 10 minutes, not 10 hours). Also: if I boot with wifi enabled, probability to have problems seems bigger.
have a good weekend.
One question:
What Galaxy S2 do you have?
I9100...?
Is there some letter after it like I9100G?
You see it when you reboot your device.
Your issues are NOT the usual issues that people around here have.
At the moment there are three problems I can think of, but you need to help me help you. ;-)
1. Firmware issue
2. Firmware for wrong Galaxy S2 (though I doubt that)
3. Faulty hardware
Do you have an USB-Jig?
Hi SniperFan
It's a plain I9100.
I have cleared
- cache
- dalvik cache
and done
- factory reset
All apps got reinstalled (and data from cloud sync-ed back)
System seems rather stable now.
Every now and then, only after reboot, I have the 'problem' again
(problem being that any app dies and samsung splash animation comes).
If wifi is off, this seems te happen less.
I must say: even with Gingerbread this would sometimes happen.
But never so persistent as it was this weekend right after ICS upgrade.
I guess clearing all and factory reset did help.
Once system is stable it stays stable.
Thanks for your kind support.
I installed Chainfire3D (after hearing good things about it) and then realized the problems it causes, so i deleted the app and then its CF3D drivers from system/lib which didnt work properly anyways. Upon restart device doesnt boot anymore :crying: (welI maybe its on cause the battery generates heat, but its black screen) I also couldnt get titanium backup to work in the past just in case something like this happens cause it was constantly stuck on yahoo finance when backing up.
My main issue is I had alot of things (worth a couple days) installed on my phone, and dont want to lose all of it. Bad thing i didnt realize there is Nanadroid backup (cause its my first android phone) which works unlike titanium quickly and efficiently, but backing things up now after black screen is pointless no? i can acess CWM recovery, but dont want to factory reset yet.
So any way to inject those stupid CF3D drivers via ADB? Or maybe backup everything but that certain system/lib folder?
Edit: i ran into this:
On CF-Root just boot into recovery, ADB shell to it, and type "rootsh" (instead of "su") to have root shell access... if anything goes wrong, just "mount /system" and "/system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh" to remove the CF3D driver and restore the old one. Not very likely it will happen, but a good fallback option in case of issues (no need to reflash firmware or restore backup)

, unfortunately cf3d_uninstall.sh was one of the files i deleted, but maybe if someone who has Chainfire3D installed on S3 LTE can share that file, i can then inject it and restore the old drivers?
Seems mine suffered a similar fate.
a friend suggested SPB 3D loaded it. It sucked and caused lock-ups and delays. I uninstalled and the phone seemed to be fine after.
I plugged the phone in to charge overnight and about an hour later when going to bed the screen was stuck on the boot-up screen.
has not gone past this since.
Wanted to get the firmware restored and after trying to find a suitable stock one I took it to my SP for repair they tried to flash it but it fails every time, they said the motherboard is toast.
It will boot to flash mode so it can be uploaded but it doesn't work. Odin says no partitions.
Tried Heimdall it detects the phone but it tells me the image is corrupt and I also have no idea how to repair the partition that seems to be lost.
white 16GB Tmoble GS3
Actually my current issue is similar, it boots up says galaxy S3 then black screen. I can connect to odin, i can boot into clockwork, and i can flash roms, ODIN says everything is successful after i flash but when it boots it still goes to a black screen. this happened after i flashed a rom(that worked) and flashing a kernel that also previously worked....after that its been stuck....i can flash whatever with success but i cannot seem to get it past that Galaxy S3 screen....
I flashed the new FreeGS3 rom, and the TGST STOCK ICS Alpha37 kernel i cleared caches and wiped davliks not too sure where to go from here.....Do i need factory tmoble GS3 PIT file?

Well thing is on my end...i didn't flash whatever the OP had flashed. What i DID do though is flash a rom and a kernel on the same cwm event. when it rebooted...it just does this....
i have a backup file....its on my laptop though....with only using odin or cwm how can i push that file onto my phone? My CWM doesnt have USB mount else id just do that.....?
Please help!
For the last few months my note (sgh-i717) has started acting very strange:
1. - The phone says it has a charged battery (or at least 50%) but will restart during intensive applications and then after restart the battery says its at zero percent 0% or close to it.
2. - Random restarts when using an app/game/browsing (not application specific)
3. - It is currently stuck on the boot screen and will not completely boot into the OS,
I am currently using padawan OS, after these issues I have flashed blackjelly thinking I just need a full wipe and a fresh flash. Issue still exists. I was however able to boot fully into blackjelly one time, and only once. It booted, i let it rest for 15-30, rebooted and BAM, stuck on the att loading screen again.
I am using TWRP 2.6.3.0., odin (various versions). I dont have adb loaded as I am not that well versed on it.
I am willing to try almost anything to get this puppy back up and running.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Try a new battery. Boot into recovery and fully wipe and format the system partition. Reinstall your ROM and see how it performs.
I've been having similar problems. Something I've noticed is my Note seems to not be retaining its charger? I just received this phone (years late) but yeah, any suggestions? I ordered a new battery to see if that'd help.
Hello
I need some advice and help if someone can.
My LG V10 was rooted and on latest Eliminators room. It was working perfectly and few days ago while ending the phone call it just switched off.
Since then i have been trying to bring it back to life but without any success .
I can boot it to fastboot but no commands are accepted in fastboot mode, no download mode . It only goes to logo and the information that software can not be checked , further from there it goes nowhere . Since i am mac user , i installed VM of Win 7 and only thing it detects is Qualcom 9008......
Please some advice and help what is possible to do.
In fastboot mode i can not do anything.......

This is the exact thing that happened to me last night too. I was wondering if my phone pushed the latest update on accident or something to cause it.
Another thread in the Q & A Section has reports of this happening and maybe being a hardware issue.
I plan on trying to do a full restore back to stock tonight when I get home from work to see if I can bring it back to life. I also read somewhere that you need to have the latest binary for fastboot to work.
The few minutes I messed around with it last night, my fastboot was sending but not writing. I'll keep you posted it I have any success tonight after work.
Side note the thread I mentioned above the S/N for the phones having issues started with 510...
Also, I can get mine to boot into recovery but once I try to erase or install it freezes and boot loops again.
I will play with it from tomorrow again. From yesterday i have gave it to one service center but they have not succeeded to do anything. I have succeeded in one moment to get to download mode which laster only about 2 seconds, not enough even to connect it to lg up, suspecting tht it is maybe something because of VM that doesn't' discover phone complerely. Tomorrow morning i shall pick it up and during next few days i shall try again, if i succeed to find a solution it would be good. I was also planing to do complete factory back up to stock last version. But...

I have the same problem with my v10 do you found a solution ?
No. I bought a new phone and my v10 is now a paperweight. I have not really tried too fix either. Jumped on project fi and got a got a 5x on the cheap. Couldn't be happier.
I've had luck flashing my LG from within a virtual machine, running on top of Linux Mint. I tried both VMware Workstation and VirtualBox. Just make sure to install the guest additions within VMware, or the extension pack within VirtualBox. Also download the LG driver and install that inside the VM too. Each VM software may have settings relating to sharing a real USB port with the VM, make sure you look into that and enable the relevant options. Otherwise the VM may not detect the device.
On the other hand, my v10 isn't hardbricked, I'm just going to hold onto it as long as possible until it goes belly-up. Which it will probably do sooner rather than later, if the issues I've had are any indication. If you're only seeing Qualcomm 9008, fastboot not responding to any commands, and no download mode, this def sounds like a hardbrick. If you're still under warranty I would recommend getting it replaced by LG. If you have insurance then cash it in.
This is the 3rd v10 I've had, so far I've done 2 exchanges if I remember correctly. These phones are definitely susceptible to big issues. Like the now famous LG bootloop scenario.
Hope you get this figured out!
Hello guys, I have a serious predicament that needs to be solved.
I haven't did anything major to my phone in years so the past couple days have been a nightmare. Ever since I did a wipe of cache partition after trying to get rid of this "unfortunately, contacts stopped working." message, it's sent my phone into a spiraling disaster. (I have been using stock 5.0 rooted rom for at least a year so idk why the sudden issues)
I've literally tried every method imaginable. I even tried flashing with different versions of Odin and still the exact same problems.
I can get my phone into DL mode easily but Recovery mode only works if I have the phone plugged in at this point (Actually, it seems like the only time when my phone wants to work)
Every time I'm done flashing, it'll load all the way up to the T-Mobile screen then restart the loop all over again :/
Really need help seeing as I need to get this situation handled before work today, thanks!
Nevermind, after more research, I decided to order a new battery and the problem is solved.

A replacement battery also solved my boot loop issue. Prior to replacement, it would boot to Galaxy S5 screen, and then reboot. Replaced battery and boots. Put the old battery back in, and it boot looped.
