So, I have time, phone, ubuntu 12.04, and a head, but no skills in android rom development. Some years ago I builded some roms for LG GM750 (Windows Mobile), so that's only I can for now
Firstly, i'd like overclock my SGA2. I know that I need to do something with a kernel? But what? Who can explane & give links? I know, antsm already tryed to overclock this phone, but no success. SetCpu is shownig right freq, but no any result in antutu and other benchmarks, so it isn't working. Any help is much appriciated
OK. I manged to compile kernel. got zImage and .ko modules. Now, I need stock zImage. And I have no idea how to get it... Help, please! This is what I have in official firmware!

maybe, but how?
we need to wait from samsung officially. would someone e-mail them to release source code?
EDIT

ya waiting for it
Hey friends did anybody get to overclock now?
I'm honestly not fond of overclock, but if I can Undervolt and improve the already great battery life, that's fantastic
Whait a bit. antsm (sorry if spelled wrongly) (a man who did root on our phone), working on it. And CWM will be ready to use soon.
where can we see progress of Ace 2 CWM development? thank you

Setcpu SGA II
Hey guys i need help, every time I set minimum frequency to 800 Mhz it always change to 200 Mhz I'm using setcpu, no frills Cup, even the performance In settings (I'm using cyanogenmod 11 by maclaw) is that what call overclocking ? I now SGA II must have kernel to overclocking but as far I now, overclocking is set the frequency beyond it should be right? And what I'm doing is just set minimal frequency to 800 Mhz

have you ever heard for cpu governors? go to settings>performance>processor and choose governor you like. and no need for set cp, no frills cpu etc..
setting minimum frequency to 800 isn't overclocking. that's the good way to kill your phone... processor isn't made to work at max freq all time. and even if it survive, your battery life will be around 3-4 hours...
overclocking is setting max freq over 800 mhz...
Hi all,
I am using Vasishta's ICS ROM and I am in search of a kernel that includes both Wifi and SmartassV2. Reason for wanting SmartassV2 is because of it's smoothness and batterylife. But I can't find a kernel that's capable of both. These are my search&test results:
FXP 132/FXP133Only interactive of on demand govenors
Wifi is fine.kCernel v3 (I tried this kernel with and without Wifi modules)Lots of governors!
No wifi.Fera 1.8 (good changelog on his tread!)SmartassV2 is there!
No wifi.AOKP (Championswimmer released this one specifically to test a wifi fixIt has 4 governors, including SmartassV2.
No wifi.
A bit strange, because on Champ's AOKP i got wifi working with 'm6'-ROM.
Reading up on this thread i think the missing Wifi has something to to with 'just' a wrong wifi module (ar600 vs. ???).
Maybe I am overlooking something.
So my question is: Does anyone know a of a kernel that i can use?
If I need to do some tweaking to make a kernel work (eg. use other Wifi modules), than please guide me in the right direction. I am not expierenced in compling, but changing files, permissions, etc. is no problem. My guess is that Fera's kernel or Champs kernel can be modifed to accomplish what i want.

Hi there friend, first of all why do you want the smartassv2 governor?, xperia s ics is based on cm9 and you have to use the fxp132 kernel, kernel is made by fxp team and it suits the rom well, you dont need smartassv2 governor in order to have a great rom. trust me!, these developers (FXP) does exactly know what they are doing.. press thanks button if i helped you. cheers!! :good:
take note, there is kernel kitchen made by championswimmer if you want to modify some kernels and make that governor added in your custom ics kernel.. have a good day friend!

Thank you Kaito_Kuroba and my apologies for my late reaction.
I found answers and i notice there is still al lot of developemen going on.
I've no doubt that there are good kernels. nonetheless, You said it wisely that FXP know what they are doing. I haven't got those skills, so why would i question their choices and want something else.
Thanks for this 'reminder'.
Too bad i can't make time to create this hobby. I've got the right education to do development, programmaing and so on.
My familylife and work doesn't give me enough time to be working in this hobby.
Best regards,

here is a good kernel:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867817
for wifi. you should do a fullwipe....
These are without question the absolute best CM9 kernels available:
For basically stock speeds - http://www.mediafire.com/?7waaqnrui676onj
For overclock to 1.228 GHz - http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yi0enn6sjxww3pd
Both have Smartass v2 and WiFi working perfectly. And everything; connections,WiFi, deep sleep just plain functions well. The first is faster per clock cycle but still can't match the performance gain of the extra 200 MHz available in the second.
Thank you all guys!
I am aware of Amin his kernels. I started the thread about two months ago. At that time there wasn't a kernel that was capable of both wishes.
Since then a lot has happened and been developed.
My question is answered and no longer relevant.
Thank you all. Thread can be closed.

Not yet. But i can make overclocked kernel later. But i think 1ghz dual-core is enough for ics.
I think that greater number governors and schedulers are more important than overclocking, you're 100% right with speed for ICS and even JB.

not a kernel feature requires correct media codecs.
Edit : @Dev congrats First custom kernel for this device(max safe oc for this processor is 1.2 GHz just saying) also a request can you add ROW IO sheduler heard its better than SIO also PegasusQ/D governer. In next release.
Thank you.

my work on cm10 boot was stuck on ramdisk issue. i posted a last_kmsg which showed that kernel booted but ramdisk had issues.
i dont understand kernel issues very well, but hope to get it working now that you are here. i'll ask for ur help from time to time.
plus, i want to take permission to use ur kernel tree for building cm9/10 from source. dont wanna use prebuilt now.
last thing, what is the difference between an ics n jb kernel, exactly what needs to be modified to make it work?....
thanks

Ramdisk(sorry couldnt resist) among other things but for initial booting ramdisk.
PS might not be the best person to answer though...

Qualcomm S4 Play is made for speed 1-1.2GHz, and that's the safe range of frequencies. Remember that this is ARM-cortex A5 not Krait, and more than 1.2 can really harm it.

I know ramdisk, but let me rephrase my question, what exactly (in ramdisk) needs to be modified and how, to make it work on jb. Anyways, i'm still figuring things out by trial n error so progress is very very slow. The logcat was the only thing i ever got to which showed the cm10 logo as well but then, everything MESSED up. Havent been able to replicate that result since.

The difference isn't just in ics and jb. the difference is in cm and sense ramdisk too. I don't know what need modify yet, but i will start the work with cm later when i have enough free time.

So happy to hear such good news for the DesireX! Finally the developing for this device is becoming richer first of all, thank you for this custom kernel and thanks nexus prime for his effort to port the CM series I'm not an expert but yeah, sense and AOSP/AOKP Roms need different kernels. To learn more I think that Dennis Rassmann (the creator of the famous Bricked kernel series) or faux can answer your question about ramdisk, if you contact them (they are really kind and gentle). After that I would like to ask if it's possible to add the useful sweep2wake function to this kernel, in future. For now, good work guys, never give up!!!

Welcome to XDA, I see you are new, but here on XDA "best" threads are found useless, as everyone have different opinion on best rom/kernel.
You will find best rom/kernel, by simply trying them out and finding which one best suits your needs.
Usually, people can help you if you specify what exactly you need from rom/kernel and by that I don't mean " I need it fast/stable" kind of specification
Oh and yes, 1.8GHz is a bit to much for this phone, just for your information 1.4GHz was sometime useful but 1.8GHz..no point really.

Hope this answers your question.

Hi there. I think that CyanogenMod 11 from LegacyXperia Project is one of the best ROMs and I advise you to use it with Dark Kernel.
Also I prefer using Android 2.3 because it's faster. One of my favorite ROMs is Gin2KitKat.
Well, me, as well as other people, don't need full speed of our cores and we could gain some hours by underclocking both GPU and CPU, but, I don't know why, underclocking apps doesn't work.
@cile381 used to maintain an underclockable (by aroma installation) kernel, but only for CPU, and I'm wondering if someone could build (or direct us to a guide to how to build) a kernel, for example:
450MHZ max GPU
1440MHz BIG CPU
1248MHZ LITTLE CPU
I would like to build one but I have no idea where to find or modify these values (I could learn how to build a kernel but not how to underclock).
I think you can do that by apps like Kernel Auditor

this is the first time ive seen this all othe kernels are all stock with som optimizations and user could overclock as he pleases... its more convinient to have it that way..whoevers wants more performance overclock. but leave all setting stock..:good:

Try choosing a frec below the max in any kernel controlling app, then see the usage of the different freqs, it still gies up to the max, somehow the kernel ignores and overwrites whatwe choose withthe apps... dont know why or how

I think that issue actually has to do with certain thermal controls in the kernel. Might I ask which kernel/rom you're using? I actually have my kernel underclocked manually and don't have such an issue right now, and I've tried both llamasweet kernel with the Resurrection Remix and CM13 roms and Imperium kernel with Genesis and vanilla stock roms.

stock 5.1 kernel :/
CM based roms have other sources, something is hardcoded in stock kernels... the kernel rewrites every modification you do on /sys so you cant change max freq ever
